I live in the UK and in my experience race is largely irrelevant when it comes to relationships. The only real obstacles tend to lie on religious/cultural lines, but generally it's a non-issue for the most part here. It seems sad that the US appears to sometimes lag behind in this regard.

I live in the UK and in my experience race is largely irrelevant when it comes to relationships. The only real obstacles tend to lie on religious/cultural lines, but generally it's a non-issue for the most part here. It seems sad that the US appears to sometimes lag behind in this regard.

I can't comment on your college roommate, only on my experience. As I said to albokk, I've personally witnessed racism in the past on a larger scale, but not for quite some time. The only real racism I encounter these days is the odd fool that's on the fringe anyway. I have family of mixed ethnicity and have been on dates with women of different races, so for me, it's irrelevant. Maybe we're just less vocal about it than Americans.
