  • ... I 'm speechless...

  • Your rant about the control pads is absolute bullshit! They are very well fit for playing fighting games. With the exception of the shoulder buttons they have the same button layout as the good old snes pads. And we all had no trouble in controlling Ryu and co. with them. It's true that in a lot of snk fighters you had to press multiple buttons at a time, but that only became a problem with B+C. In addition the d-pad was great for a controller. However I agree the sticks are still king on neo

  • your GAY!!!

  • What a creepy nerd i found

  • i think 300

  • again... did he say that the games cost 30 or 300?

  • holy crap i have the same pokemon sheets!!!

    yeah...

  • 4. At the time the Neo Geo CD debuted, the Sony PlayStation and the Sega Saturn were literally around the corner. Not only were these systems far more advanced, the PlayStation was priced about the same as the Neo Geo CD.

  • Neo Geo CD failed because:

    1. SNK wasn't a major 1st party for home video games, so they couldn't compete with Sega, Nintendo, Sony and even 3DO in marketing.

    2. The Neo Geo platform, both CD and AES, didn't have enough 3rd party support for an exclusive home console format to generate enough money through software licensing to make it profitable in the long term; Neo Geo was only really successful in the MVS arcade format.

    3. The CD drive was too slow, hampering the Neo Geo experience.

  • the closest you could come to owning an Arcade machine back then

things was expensive and guess what they still are and they are not any better

if i had all snk games the ps3 and Xbox would stay in the corner collecting dust thats for sure Snk is Arcade even if people compare to Capcoms streetfighter 2 all the time Snk still made Metal Slug and for that alone i love them ^_^

  • Oh shit there is a huge wart on his face!!! I was looking at the wrong side!!! Omg!!! Ha ha!!!

  • That's his hair on his face as much as we all wish that it's a huge wart or something like that. Anybody who watches this can just be happy that they probably have more of a social life then this guy. That's probably why he's mad. By the way nice Pokemon wallpaper. Oh an clean your room little boy!

  • is that a pimpe or a beauty mark cuz that is definatly not pretty

  • fully idiot

  • Click like if you think he's a fucking douche.

  • He's a fucking douche.

  • Please, never reproduce. Oh, and never talk to children. And stop smacking your mouth every time you pause. You are creepy; so muc so that I made this comment. I never comment unless I am deeply compelled too.

  • Dude!! POKEMON????

  • you need 6 hands to use the neo geo controller

  • omg, your way of talking sucks.. anyway, neogeo failed because of bad promo and it was to expensive. did you really wanted to upload a video where you are standing in front of such wallpaper?! i´m sorry to say that, but you ´re some kind of strange...

  • The Neo Geo CD is a failure but the Neo Geo CDZ is a great console to play Metal Slug and Pulstar very cheap and fast. The CD have better sound than the AES and it's cheaper than the AES. A real Neo Geo fan have a AES and a CDZ with 5 great games Blazing Star, Garou Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slug, Metal Slug 3 (best game on the AES) and Pulstar.

  • That's why i dont bought the PS3

  • cut him a fucking brake, jesus christ you fuckers are savage. What ever happened to chuckling lightly to yourselves, this is why star wars kid is so depressed, you fucking animals. He improves over time...FUCK!

  • i fucking love this review,lol!!!!

  • The Neo Geo CD didn't "fail". It just wasn't a commercial success.

  • Genuinely scary!

  • Was anyone able to play Neo Geo? You said you needed FOUR HANDS to use the joystick controller.

  • neo geo didn't fail. you did.

  • im thinkingabout buying one of those but is still more expensive than the ps3

  • Too much damn money.

  • aswell as the atari jaguar neo geo where overhyped expensive rip - offs

  • You are right man

  • I owned/own the CD Rom (cant get a pic on the TV anymore). I laybuyed it in 1995 and bought if for the 2d fighting games but what I never understood was why did'nt they release other games which were also popular at the time when you compare it to say a SNES which had fatal fury, street fighter mortal kombat etc. Neo Geo only released their own games.

  • i think it was neo geo wasnt meant to really compete with the war between nintendo and sega at the time, it was more for people who wanted SNK's arcade hits to play at home, kinda like a specialty item.

  • 1:47 And I thought Nintendo64 cartridges were huge!

Anyway, Neo Geo CD and Neo Geo Pocket Color are emulated perfectly on Sega Dreamcast. ;)

    Very informative video though.

  • fuck it

  • good video! man at that time Neo Geo was so expensive it was for richy rich kidsI only used to play SEGA & SNES :)(

  • the prince valiant hairdo

  • this guy sounds like doofy from scary movie. what an asssssss

  • What your not seeing are his dead parents he just brutally murdered in the next room, shortly before making this vid! The disse'd the Neo Geo CD and paid the price! lol

  • Hmm, I don´t think that the NeoGeo Controller was that bad. I mean, look at ths SNES Controller; the buttons were also quite similar arranged like on the NeoGeo Controller and the buttons were also smaller on the SNES-version. The Controllerstick seems to get used to it someday; sure, SNES and Playstation have better controllers, but this NeoGeo Controller seems to be much better like the horrible Gamecube-Controller.

  • 3do when it was out was $700, $200 more then neo geo.

  • this guy needs a huge and a hair cut soo pretty.

  • This is a terrible terrible video. You say you are discussing why Neo Geo CD failed well I would like to talk about how you failed. Fist off that thing on your eyebrow is so disturbing that I had a hard time focusing on the nonsensical ranting that was going on the whole time. Most importantly you never mentioned reasons why things were bad you just said that things like the controller was terrible but why was it terrible? Just because you said so?

  • He said he didn't like the D Pad or the button layout.

  • @FED250 Hell fuck the thing on his face. We should all make him his own pay pal account. And buy the kid a razor! I mean hell I got hair on my balls, that looks better than that!

  • commodore 64 load times are worse

  • topo...

  • it was a system 4 hardcore gamers that had to have it all.went to shit like the jaguar turbo grafix 16 sega saturn and the 3D0 .dreamcast

  • the neo geo cd .. system is not that bad ... just a little patience ...and you could enjoy a great game system .. i still have mine since back in the day...i still rock it every one in a while .. the d-pad is not that bad ..there pretty goood for some games ..i have neogeo aes,mvs,cd,pocket...neogeo forever...

  • Neo Geo CD didn't fail. It did surprisingly well for a niche system with ridiculous loading times.

  • people all over the world wanted them in their homes. neo Geo didnt fail it kept gping from 1990 all the way to 2004.

  • NEO GEO AES, MVS and NEO GEO cd are the same graphics. The price of the NEO GEO was high because it had far more powerfull processors than any other games console. It was the SNK arcade motherboard in a console. Theirs a good reason why nintendo and sega didnt put that amount of processing power in their consoles at the time. The Neo Geo console was aimed at posh hotels in japan but they expanded when

  • The Neo Geo's price tag is outrageous

  • what has better graphics neo geo cd or neo geo aes?

  • haha pokemon bedsheets are badass though, just thought i'd throw that out there.

  • haha dude i dont mean to be rude but i dont think you belong expressing your opinions in a public spotlight. but hey im no public speaker either.

  • dude ur hair is fucked up

  • inflation? that's not how it works bro, the integrated circuits in that system are definitely less expensive to produce now than they were in the 90's. You need to take some economics courses. the neo geo cd and the aes net about 300 - 700 usd on ebay depending on condition and boxing etc and that is solely for nostalgia purposes. And my neo geo cd works to this day thank you.

  • He's not talkin' about the chips and circuits. He's referring solely to the price itself, which is right.

  • I just bought a Neo Geo CD in its original packaging from ebay.

    Paid $230 Australian including shipping.

    So fuckin pumped!!!!!!

  • lag!!!! This is a really LAGGY video :S

  • I'm a stick player (maily Sanwa/Seimitsu user) and even so I love the NG-CD pad, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the layout at all the the D-pad is actually a mini stick with micro-switches to boot. The Neo-Geo CD failed because it came a little too late (the PSX and Saturn were already being hyped by every single mag back then)

  • I'm a slap-stick player. I like to slap it rather than grab it!

  • Don't take this the wrong way... But what is wrong with you? The way you speak.. It's not an accent it's more like... Well you know this people around age 30 that still live their parents? Kinda like that. But you look younger so I'm kind of confused.

  • HAHAHA you funny man!

  • Looks like someone has punched you on the right hand side of your face ( your left )

    :-D

  • He's a Redneck, probably got caught sleeping with his sister!

  • it removes the bullshit off its face!

IT REMOVES THE BULLSHIT OFF ITS FACE!

  • i've seen many of your reviews and such man... and i dont expect an answer... but wtf is on your face man?!

  • Someone from SNK wasn't happy that he said the Neo Geo CD was a failure!!

  • I can repeat watch the kof 95 AES version ending about 3 time, the CD version still din' t finish the first game yet. lol.

  • Great Review bro. I'm a HUGE! NEO-GEO FAN, I own this AMAZING! machine since 1990., plus my collection is about 100 plus games.

  • $500? Neo Geo AES came out at $650!!

  • I liked where you were going till you started trashing the controller.

You have no idea what you're talking about here. The neo geo cd pad is widely loved as one of the best controllers ever for fighting games. And you don't like the layout!? not only can you change the layout, but trashing snk games for not having Street Fighter style layouts is pretty weak. C'mon guy! get serious!

  • i think the marketing for the neo geo was the worst ever for a console my eb games dident even carry it

  • Oh God, the loading times...

  • I think Neo Geo AES is the best old game system. Nice review!

  • fuck pokemon

  • To all those haters: Stop fucking with Jedite. He is a REAL gamer, and knows a lot about it..

And I do not know him. I just think he looks like a person, who got some passion. Just like me.. ;)

  • This is fail! Neo Geo is win! Good good happy hours of 24 total for us all!

  • Why does this guy strike me as a serial killer or serial rapist?

  • lol

  • It's a good sign now that the entire Neo Geo game library is starting to re-emerge for the Wii VC so we could experience those expensive rare classics that we never did get our hands on like Nam 1975, Sengoku 1-3, Shock Troopers, Kizuna Encounter, Breaker's Revenge, Mark of the Wolves, and Samurai Shodown II.

  • Samurai Shodown 2 expensive? you can have the "extremely rare impossible to find AES cartridge because it´s fuckin Neo Geo" for like 15 bucks in perfect condition. What many gamers forget is the fact that 3/4 of all games on neo geo are not very expensive and only a few are rare and you have to pay big money for it. Before i pay 10 bucks for a VC download i rahter spend another 5 bucks and get the AES version.

  • Today it's cheap and easy to find but back then it wasn't like that. A regular price Neo Geo AES cartridge is either sixty bucks or more and the most popular one are in the one hundred dollar price tag. Plus since ebay and the internet didn't make it until late in the 90s, finding a bring new cheap factory seal NG cartridge like SSII at that time was impossible. The reason it's cheap today is that those games are now classics and SNK no longer support the NG AES console.

  • i wrote my comment from todays perspective because even today a lot of gamers still think that the neo is unaffordable which is not true. For example many games magazines make features about the neo geo claiming that the AES system is still commanding top dollar. If you have the opportunity to get your games directly from japan you start to laugh how cheap many games are. Games like SS 2 and FF2 are cheap as dirt. what is really funny is that some gamers spend more bucks on shitty snes ports...

  • I know most people today still think the NG AES games are expensive but those are the many who never play a NG before. Classics games of today should be cheap and affordable. It's rip-off to see even a game like SSII or FFS in the sixty dollar range. Also not all games on the SNES are shitty ports, though games like Shaq Fu, Mortal Kombat, and Primal Rage sucks on SNES, others like MKII, Super Street Fighter II, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury Special, and World Heroes II are great additions.

  • with shitty ports on snes i mean the neo geo games that were released on Nintendo´s 8/16 Bit system (looking at the snes cpu it is not 100% 16-bit). Maybe FF special and Samurai Shodown are good games on the snes, but i don´t have to explain which version is better: Neo Geo or Snes. And sad but true, FF special on snes for example is more expensive nowadays than the much better original Neo Geo homecart. But with MK2 you are right...great port for the snes. Not arcade perfect, but very good.

  • Yea, but you can't look at the Neo Geo from today's perspective as it is no longer a current console system being produced for a mass market.

  • I think the Neo Geo and Neo Geo cd

    are selling on Ebay lol

  • the guy in the video made a small mistake about grafics being cut on the neo geo cd. Of course a cd in total can store a lot more data than any cartridge, problem is that the CD had 56 megabit internal ram while the cartridge based system basically used the rom chips in the game as ram. With higher megcounts the AES soon could work with more than 56 megabit of data, more than the CD could load into its ram, so they DID HAVE TO CUT grafics. See AoF 3, on CD all characters are a lot smaller.

  • seen how many subscribers and fans he has? Fail? i don't think so!

  • stupid keyboard

You sound angry or something, haha. Nice video though, it's always nice to hear an analysis of anything Neo-related.

  • You sound ang

  • Its true what he says

I have a Neo Geo CD with every game ever made for that

  • ps3 for $600 lol

when the ps3 was first released in australia it retailed for $999

now its about $600-750 depending on the gb size

oh almost forgot the neo geo cartridge console system was selling for $800 and this was 1992-1993 how fucked is that

  • imGlobL, what's your point? Australian dollars aren't US dollars. Just because it has the word 'dollar' in it, does not mean it's in any way a related currency. :/

  • i wasnt relating it to currency just comparing it to price releases here and in u.s

and it still works out cheaper in exchange rates

    sorry for the misunderstanding

  • imGlobL, hey, there's nothing to be sorry about. :D

  • what do you mean by that

  • imbGlobl, I was just referring to you being 'sorry for the misunderstanding'. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :]

  • oh ok sorry about that!!!

sorry for the misunderstanding LOL HAHAHA

  • liek the wallpaper on your wall :)

  • um.....heres my promblem. Cds (compact discs) hold way more data on them then cartages so how can the graphics be scalled back on "the neo geo cd??

  • dude you have to be kidding me SNK made the Neo Geo CD to "expand to the casual gamer". The Neo Geo was a system for people what desired perfect Arcade ports and were willing to deal with a high price point to get them. Stop reading off wikipedia and throwing in buzz words that are used to describe the current game market.

  • um.....heres my promblem. Cds (compact discs) hold way more data on them then cartages so how can the graphics be scalled back on "the neo geo cd??

  • The media is never the problem, it's the way the machine handles the data. For the Neo CD it had to cut frame rate and probably some sprites, this is due to the limited amount of ram and cache on the system.

  • You look like some school assault kid :P

  • I got svc chaos for my ps2 and didnt like it as much as capcom vs snk 2. They still have the aes system at the store in original box. Who knows where games (both fighters and others) would be without snk

  • he is right no one knows about neo geo but i boght it like n 1995 or somthing but now i can download any consol emoulater and have fun ;0 for free

  • I am a Fighter fan so Ive buy NEO-GEO CD.

  • I really wanted a Neo Geo, but growing up now, its not worth it. the SNK MVS arcade system was a BRILLIANT idea for arcade cabinets... but not really a smart idea for home users. Of course, if one wanted to play pixel perfect arcade ports back in those days, they had no choice other than the Neo Geo, its only ridiculous when evaluated with today's terms for perfect ports on 360 and PS3 as well as great emulators like Mame and Rage.

  • i sold mine with metalslug 1-5 for MEGA BUCKS!! then bought metalslug anthology for $20 on ps2 & got better versions with no slowdown & metalslug6

  • That's great that you were able to make some good money, whilst still able to play all the metalslug games at an even BETTER quality. I think a lot of people like having the NeoGeo for it's collection/material values. They enjoy owning an antique. Me? I use an emulator. Although I did buy a NeoGeo Pocket Color ^_^.

  • Yeah it was expensive and therefore existed in no retail stores just about anywhere stateside. I bought mine is a store named Best. Not best buy, just best. But that was a lucky shot for me because they said they got in 10 of them, (the cart based neo geo) and wouldnt be getting anymore in.

  • I owned the original cartridge based I was paying 200.00 per game. I paid 600.00 for my system I had 12 games and whew I loved every bit of it... The last game I wanted was View Point for 179.00...

  • Go write a manifesto or something!!!!!!!

  • yup! this guy is looking so serious.

    ha ha ha

  • omg i had those pokey mon sheets

    xD

    awsum!

  • good video, jedite... I agree with that.. but I wanted one (it was still too fucking expensive even though the idea of the cd based system was to lower the cost) ... the games were also still £50 a time.. the system was about £399.99

  • Saturn was good for certain games, but the average gamer in '95 was getting stiffies for 3D games. These days 2D is making a comeback! Retro chic.

With the PS3 being this gen's 'expensive system' it's a testament to the Playstation brand that it hasn't become a 3DO or Neo Geo.

  • Neo geo for a long time pissed on every thing, the sega saturn was shit thats why it failed, games were crap same with the amiga 32cd, atari jaguar, etc they let sony in and they put money into the actual games not the hardware!

  • 300$ for a game....damn..

  • pokemon sheets xD . watch his new videos. hes is buff

  • The freakin cartrige is the size of a Nintendo Wii!

  • The Pokemon wallpaper tops this gem of a video off.

  • That's his bed.

  • Did you buy Snk arcade classics vol 1 it's available for the playstation2 and wii so if you need to find old neo geo games plus it's only $29.99

  • I got the fatal fury archives

    1 & 2

  • Dude you spoke the truth and I am a very big fan of the NGCD, you could have mentioned the NGCD joystick

ahh who am I kidding, you did us a favour by omitting that

  • my friend you get a big thumbs up

  • LOL

  • That's his hair I think.

  • you got snk vs capcom coas cart were did you get it at

  • shouldn't it be on Gametrailer's top 10 worst consoles ever made or not?

  • Well,It wasent that bad it just didint hit the Market aswell as the Neo-Geo and Neo-GEO Pocket.Making it a failure.but overall its a horrible system.

  • I love how kids are coming on here and hating on NeoGeo (The best system ever) because some rich kid who owned one wouldn't let them play his.

  • And the creator of this video is an interesting character, although this was a very indepth review and I thank you for it.

  • Do you think before you open your mouth? Most of what you said made no sense at all. And what is this your talking about where the games needed to be scaled down to fit on a CD? Do you realize when the NeoCD was released 673 Megs. Now that roughly amounts to 84 Megabits. A standard CD back in the 90's would have been around 450MB. So you take that game at 84MB and put all the music on it 450MB is more than enough for 1 Neo-Geo game.

  • SELG88 & natedavis82: you are assholes.

  • Its good to see jedite stopped taking his medication.

  • I'm glad the system suck. I knew only one person with the system and he was a douch bag. He said that all of us can only watch him play his system. I believe it was his birthday. 10 minutes of it, we all left him alone. He got sad and complained to his parents and we got in trouble.

  • i had the same shit some rich kid on my block

got one, fuck this system and the people

that made it and had it!

  • Everything.

  • It's good to see people with Advanced Down Syndrome making videos on youtube.

  • LMAO

  • snk neogeo was one of the best cosoles ever, arcade in your tv, awesome, i will remember you for ever

  • i only able to play the arcade neo geo games since it was cheaper

  • NEO-GEO FTW!!

  • only problwem i have is that he makes it sound that the CD's heald less space than a cartridge.

A cd is 700 megs.I doubt a cart from that time is anything over 13 megs... in fact Neo GEo arcade roms are about 4-12 megs a piece so... yeah he is wrong.

Also, DREAMCAST is what killed Saturn. Sega unveiled DC at E3 waiy too early hiwch caused for all 3rdparties to drop Saturn support.

    Saturn had ok marketing.

  • The cartridge was able to hold 716Megabits without loading. A CD back then was only as good as it's KB/Sec.

  • 1. Megabits,,, are far smaller than megabytres.

    2. You can't load more off a CD than RAM you have

    Copnclsuion:

Since both systems ghad the same amount of RAM, nothing was different.

CD's heald more than carts. Not the other way around.

Carts did not hold 716 Megabytes.

NeoGeo Roms on average are about 4-12 megs a peice. Download a few if u dont believe me.

  • sorry dude, but game carts held over 330 megs!

for instance, Pulstar for the neo geo cart system was 380 meg! This is why some games on start up would say... GIGA POWER. The tiniest game on the NEO GEO was PUZZLED, it came in at just over 12 meg.... SNK wasnt big on data compression. But on the CD version they were. The neo geo cds were quite simply SHIT. Made from the cheapest of materials, they never lasted long. I know i had one.

  • Ok, but the fact that the console had such little RAM, makes storage capacity irrelevant.

You can't load 5 megs of data if u only have 4 megs of ram.

I dont understand, I used to download Neo Geo roms back in the day... they were NOT compressed. They were never more than 12 megs.

  • The neo geo cd had 54 meg of available memory. It was able to load up ALPHA MISSION II once and never had to load again. The reson why they were smaller is because the actual games were huge, but the mame versions are tiny because they are emulated. The games on the cds are different again. Take KOF95 alot of changes (although small) were made so it would fit on the cd along with the music.

  • Wow...

Wait so, despite CD's holding far more data than cartridges, they compressed the hell out of the games to compensate for a poor CD Drive read speed?

Ouch... seems as if they got bitten in the ass by shitty programming, when you consider than PSX has only 2 megs of system RAM, and could easily handle SNK quality sprites, on a 2x speed CD Drive.

  • Well to add insult to injury, the CDZ which was reputed to have a 2x cd rom drive... didnt actually HAVE 2x cd rom drive... some sort of data retreivel method they were able to use. Im like... a double spin cd rom would have been like.. cheaper??? GOD SNK.. what were yas thinking.. Here u have the benchmark of arcade and home entertainment (at the time) and ..well.. yas fucked it...Id expect that from SEGA but not you guys...

  • As for the psx versions of the games, in my opinion... the sucked. The neo geo versions are always gonna be better. I could finish the psx version of KOF95 on the highest difficulty. But my neo geoCD version i was flat out completing on medium. Also if u notice the game that this guy holds up. i noticed that its SNK VS CAPCOM. 708 meg (if you pause it at 01:37). Plus u also have to realise that alot of the neo geo games that were converted to cd had their music changed have you noticed??

  • I never noticed any differences between cartridge and CD versions of the games as I never owned either consoles. I just think its CRAZY they changed the versions for CD, when CD's could have easiyl heald all the data a cartridge holds.

Sure read speed would have been a problem but they could have worked around that. Oh, and as far as I know, "Giga-Power" refered to clock-speed of the CPU.

  • Dude, the clock speed never changed for the neo geo or the neo geo cd, 14mhz. 17% slower in countries that used PAL tv. Giga Power meens the size of the game.

  • That makes far more sense than a gighert clock speed for a console that old... I should check my sources more.

Morons should have just used a real twin speed CD Drive, as well as added CPU cache and they'd have done fine. Either that or waited for a Quad CD drive to be an topion to load those 54 megs into the RAM

  • well dude i had 12 neo geo games and pretty much all the mags that used to review them. And you saw with you own eyes how big the games were. Emulated games will never be that big.

  • Yeah, its weird though. I thought when I was downloading roms to play on my PC's emulator i was downloading uncompressed RAW dumps from the cartridges.

Then again its been so long i could simply be dead wrong.

  • well thats what i liked about the neo geo games/hardware. Back then it was considered the roles royce of video game consoles. In my opinion there will NEVER be a console like it ever totally devoted to quality gaming. even now, 5 years on, there must have been something happening to make sony and sega and Nintendo put these awesome games on their systems. SNK aint dead.... just misunderstood.

  • Are they making NEW games?

  • I sent you a personal msg dude. U may find that they will answer any questions you may have.XD

  • And as for the SEGA stuff??? SEGA couldnt market a system to save them selves. Look at all the stuff they brought out.... remember the 32 X??? What a joke. Such potential... the SATURN was an awesome machine... but because of dual processors not many 3rd party program companies would touch it. THE DREAM CAST?? similar probs. Why u spose sega only make games now??

I never thought i would see a sega game on a nintendo system put it that way....
