There's a recall on these. During assembly in Lake Orion, Michigan.....some of the sonics were not fully equppied with break pads. Only like 4,500 were effected, so its not a huge recall

After 30k miles, tons of problems, and being burned a couple times by the aveo, I traded that piece of shit in. (Well, it was my mom's vehicle the whole time, but I drove it the most) We/she now has a '12 civic. "I" bought my first vehicle, a '08 fusion 5 spd.
@wantsanewvehicle Now, I don't plan to keep the fusion forever. Maybe 6 months to a year (it's been 2 months so far). So I can build my credit a bit more :)

My first car was (and still is) Chevrolet Aveo with 1.2L ECOtec engine ,and i passed 60 000 km with it without any kind of "reliability" problems. Roads in my country are crap compared to one in U.S.A , they are full of holes and on some part there isn't any asphalt at all ,and my Aveo put's up with those roads just fine! I didn't had any problem with it so far!
But my friend's Toyota Auris got it's bearings crushed after 23 000 km ,and you still won't hear me talking

@MeskovicZ I went to look at the Sonic to see if it might be a good car for me to buy. After seeing its basically a rebadged Aveo, I'm not even sure it'd worth the risk of buying. You buy new cars because they're reliable. The Aveo has too much of a checkered past for me. I'm not stopping people judging them for buying Chevy; but when the engine blows and dealer/ GM tell you "its your problem", you know what's wrong.

As i said ,i passed 60 000 km on roads that are bad to the point where you couldn't even call it a road ,and i haven't had any problems with my Aveo so far. I am very happy with it ,and honestly i know couple of taxi drivers that also used Aveo's and went with them over 300 000 km without any problems.... So i am not worried. As for trucks ,i live in Europe and here we don't use trucks such as you can see in U.S.A. Here fot that kind of purpose we use VAN or real
trucks that can take up to 10 tons of material. Even some van's can take up to 5 tons of material inside ,so we don't really need trucks. They are too big ,too expensive and above all too big for our roads that are full of holes and curves. Not to mention that trucks like those are very thursty and here price of 1 liter of gas cost 1.50 Euro's which is 3.33 U.S. $....
Not to mention that insuring such thing would cost arm and leg here... So i really don't know a thing
about those trucks ,but i really doubt they are that bad...
As for that "blown up" Aveo ,well do you know how many cars per year gets blown up? Or just get cought on fire without any reason? In my town year ago a nice Mercedes AMG got burned to the ground for no reason at all! So does that mean Mercedes cars are peace of crap?

My car is under 3 year guarantee (it could be 5 if i paid some extra money) and in contract there is section that clearly says that any problems with car not caused by his owner (me) will be repaired ASAP free of charge.
Once i found my right tire been penetrated by peace of glass ,i went to Chevy local dealership and their machine for removing tire of a rim was not working ,so they supplied me with their car (Cruze) that i used all day ,and only paid for the fuel.
and ofc i paid repairs on my tire ,but they were very pleasent and really friendly. So i don't know what kind of experience you had with your local Chevrolet dealership ,i on other hand had very nice experience and met really friendly people that were eager to help.
I am very well avare that Aveo is a cheap car ,and i know there is probably better cars out there ,but non of those brand new cars can't be purchased for 14 000 $. You get what you pay for in the end...
I don't like how the lower half of the "grill" and the chevy sign becomes the bumper and juts out. Why couldn't they just leave a clean and continuous line more like the previous generation Dodge Stratus? On those cars the grill and bumper blended better. This looks like they didn't know where to put the bowtie, so they just decided to slap it somewhere in between the grill and bumper. Please revise the front grill and bumper.
why are GM dashboards of most of the hatchbacks and sedans has the same design .... it is an amazing design btw but using it in more than 3 cars make me feel that GM is beginning to suffer from lack of designers!!!!

this car is a huge improvment over the shitty aveo but i still dont see the point in it because the cruze is bigger and gets better gas mileage, gm still needs much more improving.
I've never been too crazy about American cars, but Chevy has always been an acception. In this case, I think I have a new favorite Chevy. The Sonic looks like a great new car for the decade.

Plus its poor performance which is what I was comparing with the bigger and heaver Focus.

I don't like how the lower half of the "grill" and the chevy sign becomes the bumper and juts out. Why couldn't they just leave a clean and continuous line more like the previous generation Dodge Stratus? On those cars the grill and bumper blended better. This looks like they didn't know where to put the bowtie, so they just decided to slap it somewhere in between the grill and bumper. Please revise the front grill and bumper.

why are GM dashboards of most of the hatchbacks and sedans has the same design .... it is an amazing design btw but using it in more than 3 cars make me feel that GM is beginning to suffer from lack of designers!!!!

@Scorch1007 Well of course; the Focus is also significantly more expensive. The Fiesta is the Sonic's direct competitor. I like the Fiesta more, but give credit where credit is due, this car is much more competitive with the Accent, Fiesta, Fit, Versa, and Yaris than the old Aveo.

@porsche911sbs True. But the fiesta is still better. Don't get me wrong although I am a ford guy there are not many car manufacturers that I dislike. That being said it looks like chevy didn't spend nearly enough time designing this car. from the poor look-a-like Lancer front end to the ugly rear end and awful interior it seems this car was simply rushed to the assembly line. Plus its poor performance which is what I was comparing with the bigger and heaver Focus.

@porsche911sbs It can compete with the Accent, but the Accent is better value for money and Chevy can't beat Hyundai's 10 year powertrain warranty. Especially when they pay Mexicans $1.50 an hour to make parts or build cars when they're eating refried sick wrapped up in a bread flavored diaper, drinking water contaminated with dysentery, and sitting on the can all day with the shits.

Ford managed to make a bigger heavier car faster and more fuel efficient. At no point was I trying to compare "apples to apples". Just trying to say chevy put no effort in to this car.
