But you know what I mean, vinyl DJ's get a lot more respect from me than CD-DJ's do! There's a cue button! And BPM counters! It takes all the skill out of an artform and turns into...well, button pushing really!
@DJUsive1 all good bro, im not a fan of cd's either...but its all mp3 these days, with macs being synced to the decks and what not...might as well just use cd's (ugh, think i just puked in my mouth a little from saying that though lol). You happen to use ableton at all by the way?
@DJUsive1 i've just bought a pair of 1210s, not used vinyle before, was using cdj's and i am so excited bout gettin some vinyl laid down. does it take alot of practice?
@Haiirtch If you've got experience on CDJ's it should just be hand control that you need to learn really! And I can't say how long you'll take, some people take to it like a duck to water, others like a duck to an icy pond...
@DJUsive1 Sorry but I think you're chatting balls. I mix vinyl myself, but to say that CDJs do all the work for you is complete bollocks. Sure they make parts of the mixing process easier, but you still have to be able to beat match in order to mix on them. You make it sound like anyone could just walk up to a set of CDJs and mix like a pro. Just isn't true.
That's my point, it takes pretty much all the skill out of something that on vinyl is an art. Beat matching becomes vastly simpler when you don't have anything else to think about it, and the majority of CDJ's have BPM read-outs to tell you exactly how close you are to mixed.
And no, nobody can walk up to any set of decks and mix like a pro but on CDJ's the learning curve is vastly shortened - and then anyone with enough money can claim they're an amazing DJ.
@DJUsive1 CDJs do all the work for you? I completely disagree, it may make the process of beatmatching slightly more consistent but to say it does everything for you is a ridiculous statement..
@mkjell although vinyl is obviously what most djs would use in an ideal world the stuffs dam expensive. If SpectraSoul wants to showcase a new tune hes just made it doesnt make sense to spend shit loads pressing the tune and shit when he can just export to MP3 or WAV for next to nothing.. also MP3s make it cheaper for people to get into the scene and build up their music collection.. just my arguement for MP3's =) but vinyls far from dead!
@djmotion1 hahaha hello mate, was gonna say i dident expect to find you here, but then i realised your a dirty bass head as well hahaha. Just read your comment and realised it was you after haha. Your totally right, i use vinyl to mix but that doesent mean i think cd djs are any less than vinyl djs, (there is hardly any difference in the way you actually mix) its all about preferance. I personally would love to have both (as they both have their pros+cons) however it all costs sooo much.
@tomass123. cddj1000mk3's are not king of the decks. if there was such and award it would quite obvioulsy go to technics for longevity and widespread use. they may be the best cd decks but are by far not the best decks... for a start they aint vinyl. :D
my bad totally, are they the cdvjs? like the ones you can fuck about with video clips on dvd on? think yoda plays around with stuff one them for his shows.
