The real Buford Pusser was a giant of a man at 225 lbs and six foot six inches. He stepped outside the law more than once to get at the State Line mobsters and the members of the Dixie Mafia that were responsible for Pauline Pusser's murder. He didn't back down from anybody and he paid an awful price. He was once beaten so badly he required 194 stitches to close the wounds. The real story of Sheriff Buford Pusser was far more violent and tragic than the movie let on.
Nothing against the Rock but as a Gen Xer Bo Svenson IS Buford Pusser to me...i actually thought he was a real life southern guy ....no idea he was from Sweden...(back then )great acting in those films
what is it with old people saying ohhh the origional movies are better .....get ur old wrinkly ass off the computer chair and go get ur eyes checked cos ur vision is fucked up
@itallxit2 I suggest that you talk to some of the people who lived the real story along with Buford. They speak of corruption corruption, payoffs and possible murder. The real Buford Pusser was not like the man we were shown in the movies. The real story is far more interesting than the movie.
The origibnal "WALKING TALL" was one of the best movies of all times!!! To bad they didn't tell the real story. To see a photo of Buford's face after he was shot go crimemyths. Just type crimemyths in your internet search box. Lots of photos, documents and Louise Hathcocks autopsy report. etc
@mikeelam2010 as a young boy in johnson city tennessee i met the man.i saw the scars ! and he died before his story was all told !! mistyriuos how true life figures are talked downit was more real than lie..and that remake was shame..why dont they show these shows anymore? because real life is too hard for most to understandyou dont realize just how bad things are gonna get here at home and i dont think it will be to many more years and theremight be another ann frankbut whowill tell thestory ?
@oldviolinat48 Sorry friend, I am afraid you gave been decieved. I know many of the people from both sides of the story as I have researched this for years. People like Cammy Wilson and Jerry Heacock were reporting the truth years ago. One of the people that gave some very important information was Buford's own stepdaugter Diane Vance. She told how that Buford and Pauline were having troubles just hours before Paulinr was killed. She talked of Buford's corruption. That was family talking.
@ohiostmarine29203 In the movie Obra was driving Buford's car(the brake lines had been cut). Killed in head on with a logging truck.
Buford's real life black deputy was Dave Lipford. He actually died of cancer. He was about 57 or 58 years old when he died. Nothing like what you saw in the movie.
Buford's two main deputies in real life were Jim Moffett and Peatie Plunk. While "Walking Tall" was entertaining, the real story is so much more interesting.
@ohiostmarine29203 Felton Perry played Obra in the movie. He and Bruce Glover (Grady) are still friends to this day. Niether had any adia at the time that "WalkingTall" wasn't the true story that it was billed as. During the filming producers advised them to stay out of neighboring McNairy County because of the damnger there and even got them permits to carry handguns. Little did anyone know at the time that the movie was FAR, FAR more fiction than fact.
@mikeelam2010 Towhead White was dead (1969), Louise Hathcock was dead (1966) and there were no real threats left. Ironically, many locals believe Buford murdered Pauline and staged the ambush. A recent reconstruction indicated that the ambush didn't occur in the manner Buford told the TBI. Many are now surprised to learn that many locals claim they paid Buford to operate, jclubs, moonshine and bootleg outside the law. Buford was a big part of the problem at the state line, not the solution.
@mikeelam2010 "Buford was a big part of the problem at the state line, not the solution" Sounds a lot like the statements & theories Barbara Blivins made. - Publisher Barbara Bivins says, "I don't think Buford Pusser was part of the solution. I thought he was part of the problem." (WMCTV News) - For those of you who don't know, Barbara Bivins was married to Bobby Bivins, a state liner, one of the bad guys. So you can see who Mike is siding with here.
@TREVORALLEN2010 Trever, Can you not read? Yes the state liners were criiminals I never said they weren't. What I did say was that Buford was part of the problem at the state line, not part of the solution. Pusser took payoffs and allowed the state liner to do their thing. I faill on the side of the truth and the truth is that there were no good guys in this story. Why do you have a problem with that? Are you a Buford Pusser worshipper? Do you need a hero that badly?
Mike, Have you been elected as the Grand Wizard to carry Barbara's torch? Of course we all know she is now deceased. How "grand" of you to carry on her beliefs!
Mike, Have you been elected as the Grand Wizard to carry Barbara's torch? Of course we all know she is now deceased. How grand of you to pick up where she left off of.

What you have said was a unique quote originally spoken by Barbara Bivins in a piece done by WMCTV Action News. You've used it ALL over the web. All of her quotes and theories, you have used nearly verbatim. Do you not have a mind of your own Mike? Are you that unimaginative that you have to use a dead woman's words to voice your opinion? I have a copy of the piece, which no doubt is the script you've been reading been.

@TREVORALLEN2010 Trevor, who do you think set that interview up? It wasn't Barbara. I was the one who contacted Bill and asked him to do it. And her husband's name wasn't Bobby Bivens..., it was Tommy Bivins. People such as yourself is why there is so much inaccurate information out there on the subject of Buford Pusser. Why don't you sit back, relax and get your facts straight before you post again.
Oh and Mike, before you start nitpicking about typos, you should go back and proof read what you type - especially on your lame yahoo group . I have never seen such poor grammar and mispelling in my life. How did you ever pass a written exam for the force? Did you know someone who "overlooked" you're 6th grade education and let you slip by? How does it feel to work for a company that imports from China and pays their own people 50 cents a day? Ferguson was right about you.
@TREVORALLEN2010 Whats wrong Trevor..., can't stay on topic??? You don't seem to want to do anything but attack me. In case you didn't notice, the thread is about Buford Pusser. Don't you have anything of value to say about him? Oh..., that right, your not here to discuss Pusser..., your an internet stalker just looking for an arguement.
@mikeelam2010 you're right mike,it is tommy because his daughter is my nurse practioner and louise hathcock was my step-great aunt! Seems people think they know alot and know so little!
@waywardson1963 If people would just take the time to learn the real story they would be surprised to learn how the real story played out..., it wasn't anything like what we saw in "WALKING TALL". The writings of W.R. Morris and the movies by Bing Crosby Productions have given people a lot of bad information. You would probably enjoy visiting my forum Crimemyths, Lots of photos, files, interviews and documents. Just type the word crimemyths in your internet search box.
The Eddie Bond video was removed because of copyright infringements. The video is interesting but is totally filled with inaccuracies. Buford took payoffs and was suspected of killing is wife Pauline. For more info type crimemyths in your Internet search box.
The movie is not a documentery, it is fiction inspired by a few true events. Anyway I loved Walking Tall. A lot of people refer to it as a cheap B movie, but I thought the story was the backbone of the film. If you make it through this film without a tear in your eye, seek help because it's one of the most emotionally charged lawman films ever made. Triumph, tragedy, the struggle between good and evil. Great film, oh yea, please don't mention that POS remake.
Great movie but it is filled with inaccuracies. For instance Buford had the assistance of two friends when he robbed the Plantation Club (real name).
It was Buford's friend Marvin King Jr who used the blunt instrument to beat the club owner, not Buford as the movie showed, and the owner was the only one in the club at the time of the robbery. From there, the accuracy of the movie never improves. The movie was all about making money..., not telling the true story. No tears here.
For the real story type crimemyths in your Internet search box. Lots of photos, documents and audio files with excepts from interviews with people that lived the "Walking Tall" story.
See a photo of Buford's jaw after he was shot. It all on crimemyths
@douglas787 The problem is most of it never happened. When Buford robbed the Lucky Spot (Plantation Club) he did so with the help of two friends, Jerry Wright and Marvin King Jr. Only one man, W,O Hathcock, was in the club when it was robbed. The real ambush was also totally different from the movie version. Many locals, including Paulines best friend, feel that Buford murdered Pauline. For more info on Buford and the state line type crimemyths in your search box.
Again Gipper, why were all of the shell casings in the ambush found in the same spot as opposed to being scattered down the road as one might have expected to find them? What does your research tell you about this? It was dark according to Buford when the ambush occurred.., how was he able to name the four people that he accused? Why four professional hit men and only one gun? What does your research tell you here? What about the blood on the hood of the Fury? How did it get there? ANSWERS?
If the car did drive up and they were shooting at him, don't you honestly think that Pusser might have seen or recognized his attackers? It's called common sense here, for Pete's sake! Plus, you like to sight Nix as someone who has vehemently denied doing the ambush, but he ALSO has denied just as hard that the Dixie Mafia never existed to begin with! Nix has no credibility at all - Nix is in prison now in Louisiana for life for other murders!
Gipper, I have no bias here. Some of the state liners were bad, but Pusser was their equal in the opinion of people who lived the story. Pusser was making money by accepting payoffs for allowing these people to operate outside the law. I have backed up what I have said ...,have you? Kirksey Nix? Can you place him at the ambush or did Pusser just name him as a fall guy. Why was Nix ever arrested? Why were the other three men Pusser named as being involved in the ambush NEVER ARRESTED?
SOME of the State Liners were bad??? Huh??? That says quite a bit of what you think, right there! Man, those people were evil, and if Pusser had to make some deals with devil (not to the extent you say) in order to beat them, then so be it! Perhaps the reason why Nix or any others were never arrested was simply for the same reason that Pusser was NEVER ARRESTED for the ambush of his wife - because there wasn't EVIDENCE to charge him with the crime!
Once again you show your ignorance. W.O. Hathcock was nothing like Louise Hathcock or Towhead White. He operated a club, but can you tell me of problems there? Pusser claimed he was beaten and robbed there biut there is no police or medical record to back his claims. Pusser and two friends later robbed the Plantation Club Marvin King Jr used a blunt instrument to beat W.O. Hathcock. It was not Pusser as the movie showed. Pusser never used a big stick. You need to do a lot more research.
I haven't even mentioned W.O. Hathcock... WTF are you talking about??? YOU are the ignorant one, pal! I have ONLY referred to Louise Hathcock and the evil bitch that she was! Perhaps part of your problem is reading comprehension, simply because your BIAS is so great against Pusser??? ANd yes, I do know the movie is incorrect in showing Pusser robbing the Club in the movie! Just as you have stated to others, I can also research the internet over and over and counterpoint you again!
Deals with the Devil? Pusser was after pay offs, it wasn't about shutting down the state line. Oh yes, there was enough evidence to charge him with a crime but others would not allow it to happen. Why didn't the medical examiner or County Attorney General insist in an autopsy on Pauline? Why was Pusser never polygraphed? Can you even place Nix there at the time of the ambush? Why don't you ever answer my questions> Is it because your research gives you NO answers?
Simple questions- simple answers... there wasn't any or enough evidence to suggest that Pusser had his wife murdered, especially in consideration that to do so, he had to shoot his own face, then have 16 plastic surgeries performed in Memphis to try and correct the damage! This and the simple fact that Pusser was NEVER suspected by the FBI, TBI or his own county speaks VOLUMES against your theory. Same reasoning goes for why Nix or White were never arrested because of lack of evidence!
Wrong answers Columbo...many of thos e16 operations were to correct injuries to his eye from a CAR ACCIDENT. The FBI never investigated the ambush, they only offered their lab services to local authorities. Warren Jones of the TBI suspected Pusser but his higher ups held him back. Nix and White were not arrested because THEY WERE NOT INVOLVED. Did it ever occur to you that Pusser had help staging the ambush?
I emailed you my phone # last night. My offer to talk still stands. Call me.
Hey Columbo... please PROVE to me that Pusser was in the hospital over injuries to his eye! I'll go you another one further -- If that was the case, then also explain as to why that while Pusser was a patient in Memphis, the Shelby County Sheriffs Dept. thought it would be best if they kept a deputy around the clock at Bufords door of the hospital? They don't do that just for a previous eye injury! C'mon....
You know, it's so easy to try and say someone was on the take, corrupt or a murderer, especially more that 30 years afterward. But when all you have is RUMOR and BIAS, your AGENDA really begins to show! I have no desire to give you my phone # as this forum, especially in light of the apparent hostility of your attacks, will be quite sufficient for me!
Sonny Olin Davis, Selmer PD, Rex Armisted Mississippi investigator, Charlie Goforth, Mississippi Investigator, Skeet Adkins, Club operator, Betty Sparks, Club Operator Lavon Plunk(McNairy County Deputies wife) ALL had bad things to say about Pusser...people from both sides of the story. FIRST HAND ACCOUNTS, no rumor, not Bias, not agenda..., just the truth. YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Yo Colombo. I will do you one better, I will let you prove that all sixteen of those operations were from the alleged ambush. You can do that, can't you? Pusser was indeed a patient that the Memphis Hospital after the alleged ambush but his injuries were not as bad as many believe. Shelby County sheriffs office was being prudent as they were not yet aware that Pusser was only pulling a con job. Come on...you haven't answered a lot of my questions regarding the ambush.., stop stalling.
And there it is! You CANNOT PROVE that Pusser was in the hospital for a previous eye surgery, can you??? I knew you couldn't and it doesn't surprise me one bit. I ASKED YOU to prove it and WHAT do you do? You tell me to prove he was there for the gunshot wound otherwise! Listen here, Mikey... there's a little thing here called History and it says in 42 years now that Pusser was in for the gunshot wound and NOT for an eye surgery! That is the written history and you CANNOT DISPROVE IT!
lol I'm waiting for you to prove that those 16 operations were all about injuries from the ALLEGED ambush...you can't prove that can you? lol. Mikey?...LOL now your frustration is showing.. History is often incorrect and that is what Crimemyths is all about ...separating fact from fiction. Fiction like that Towhead White was a most wanted man by the FBI or that the FBI Investigated the ambush . More fiction is that Pusser cleaned up McNairy County. Can YOU prove me wrong?
My frustration is showing??? ROTFLMAO LOLOLOLOL Mikey, you are one who is FRUSTRATED! Why? Because you cannot prove that someone was just as bad as the Mob and it irritates you to no end, doesn't it? What's the matter, you waved your hand and couldn't convert another to your way of BIASED thinking? Mikey, the word to describe me here is AMUSED and I must admit I'm having a rather good time playing Point-Counterpoint with you! Especially when I refuse to roll over and bow to your flawed logic!
If you are really having a good time with this point counterpoint, why don't you call? And again, you are avoiding answering questions... why? Are logical answers that fit your agenda hard to come by? Thats what amuses me ...that you are in a corner and can't answer questions...a sure sign of someone who doesn't know what they are talking about!
Come on...got proof yet that all sixteen operations were related to the ambush?
LOLOLOLOLOLOL C'mon Mikey, don't show how irritated you are with me all in one post! Do I have to SAY IT AGAIN as to why I won't call you??? Did you even READ my response to your SAME QUESTION before? What you cannot stand is the History had already judged Pusser to be better than the Mob or the Dixie Mafia and you are literally having a heart attack trying to prove otherwise at any cost that Pusser wasn't! I very seriously doubt you EVER saw Pusser as anything but a bad guy to start with!
You cannot PROVE, you can only ACCUSE, Pusser of being a bad guy, and it irritates you to no end that I refuse to buy in to your manufactured yahoo group "crimemyths" hidden agenda of discrediting Pusser by any means! I've read your posts, your comments, your photo narratives and all you ever do is try to discredit Pusser at every single turn. Not exactly what one would call an "Objective" group by any means! I am more than certain any Pusser supporter out there would slam you hard!
I beg to disagree. Had Pusser been brought up on charges he would have had a lot of people from BOTH sides of the aisle testifying against him as witnesses. Olin Sonny Davis wanted to go after him for distribuation of drugs, Warren Jones knew about his corruption as sheriff. Club owners could have rolled on Pusser over him requiring them to make payoffs. You disagree with my accessment of photo evidence, many agree with me. Tell me, why do you want Pusser remembered so kindly?
The FACT is that Pusser was NEVER EVER brought upon charges and that 34 years after his death, there hasn't been any dramatic undertaking BY ANYONE to show that he was a criminal as you so desperately wish to portray him! You can give me all the "Hads" you want, but those and 50 cents still won't buy you a cup of coffee! Where have Davis, Jones or the Club Owners been if they really thought that they had any case at all in showing Pusser as the Bad Guy? Pusser had the evidence, they didn't!
Again, Pusser had friends in high places that made sure he was not brought up on charges. He got away with all of this from 1964 on..., does the fact that he wasn't caught before his death make it right that he did it in the first place.., yeah, I know, you, have an agenda and want to argue schematics, but at the end of the day he was a corrupt sheriff who didn't shut down all the joints as people like you believe he did. Had he been prosecuted he would have done prison time.
Nice try again, Mikey boy, but you lose because you or your obvious BIAS simply have never had the evidence to show OR reverse what history has already judged and found - that Pusser, not a perfect man, tried to make a difference against the Mob and the Dixie Mafia and illegal moonshine. It's that simple and just because YOU say that Pusser was a criminal makes it nowhere near FACT! Sorry, history is NOT ON YOUR SIDE! Face it, Mike, you gave it a good go, but you came up short!
Its an excellent acheivement actually, to find so many people on BOTH sides of the story that agree on the moral fiber (or lack of) regarding Buford Pusser. Little did I expect that I would find criminals, business people and lawenforcement officers alike that would all tell similar things about a single man. Maybe you should try talking to some of these people as I have ..., I once saw Pusser as a hero and I overcame that particular bias. Theres hope for you too.
Just because a man never stood trial or was not found guilty, doesn't mean he wasn't guilty. OJ Simpson...was he guilty of murder? We all have an opinion. Gippy what do you think would have happened if Will Abernathy had introduced Louise Hathcock's autopsy report to the grand jury? Better yet, what if he had asked Dr Jerry Fransisco to explain, in detail, his findings. Still think Pusser would be "no billed". Sometime the system fails us all.
Why did Abernathy not present the autopsy report on Louise Hathcock to the grand jury? Why was Pusser never asked to take a polygraph? When Pauline was killed, why was no autopsy done and again, why was there no polygraph examination? Russ Hamilton...same questions.... Who do you think was protecting Pusser? Why was he being protected? Do you actually believe that the ambush required 4 him men in one vehicle with one gun? Why no arrests? If it walks like a Duck........
The difference IS, Mikey boy, that OJ went to trial and that Pusser NEVER DID! He was never put before a grand jury as a suspect in any wrong doing. You can try and blur the lines all you want with your "what ifs" and "better yets", but once again, you continue to come up short and fail to convince the majority of people that Pusser was a criminal! And I say that the system really begins to fail when there are those who take a criminal's word as fact over a dead sheriff who cannot defend himself
Thats my point, Pusser never went to trial...but he should have. Once again a you distort the facts when you say "take a criminals word over a dead sheriff". What about the law enforcement officer who say he was corrupt? Who has the bias here? You leave out the parts you can't deal with.
Tell me...why is it so important to you that Pusser be a hero?
Oh please Mikey... I'll be just like you here: please tell us all of exactly how many people, who they are, where they're from, how they knew the parties of the times or what relation, if any, they had with Pusser and the Mob and the Dixie Mafia, where they now live, etc, etc... Unless you write a book and can actually back it up beyond question, you're going to have to do a hell of a lot better than portraying your own BIASED conclusions as the facts! Many competing writers are against you!
Lets see...because they don't fit your agenda or bias, You choose to ignore photos, documentaion, statements of people who were there on both sides of the story and yet you criticize me for considering those items while you provide us with absolutely nothing to show that Pusser deserved his hero. status. Well done ....I'm convinced....that you are totally out of touch.
LOL...gippy..., stick your head in the sand...ignore everything...that won't change the FACTS that have been uncovered. As I said, I did once have a bias...in favor of Pusser! I allowed myself to examine the evidence like Hathcocks Autopsy report. I choose to examine the carefully the photos of the ambush. I decided to listen to people who were there from BOTH sides of the story. What is it again that yo have done to draw your conclusions? HMMMM?
What you don't understand gippy, is that people were lied to regarding Pusser. that's why they judged him so kindly. What if they had known the truth? In the 30's most Germans thought Hitler was the greatest thing since pockets on shirts. They learned the truth..., what do they think now? (I'm not comparing Pusser to Hitler, just using him as an example of how history now remembers him).
As far as how I initially viewed Pusser, please read my first two years of posts on the forum.
Oh please, how desperate are you now to bring Hitler in to this? The first thing you're talking of here is the Dixie Line Mafia, with possible ties through Nix Jr. to Sam Giancana! They were entrenched at the state line for many years before Pusser even took office. And as I recall Hitler, the State Line Mob and the Dixie Mafia were all judged criminals by history. By your logic, did people lie about Hitler and those groups being criminals as they supposedly lied about Pusser being a good guy???
Oh Please, I gave a disclaimer regarding my remarks on Hitler, so don't even try to turn that around. Nix tied to Sam Giancana? I don't think so...lol. Exactly who was entrenched at the state line before Pusser? ALL of those evil state liners that we now agree were not ALL so evil. Come on man...show me someting here...make your case about Pusser being a hero...so far you have failed miserably. All you have done is defend him against allegations of wrong doing. How was he a hero?
Pusser is not necessarily my hero, Mikey... it's just that I certainly think he was much much better than the Dixie Mafia ever was. The Dixie Mafia, the same group that Nix was part of said "never existed", operated out of multiple state locations, originally originating down the road in Mississippi! Do you really think they didn't try to influence any bar owners at the State Line? And, it is UPON YOU to show that Pusser WAS a bad guy, not for me to show he wasn't!
Thats where you and I disagree. Pusser was just like Louise Hathcock and Towhead White. Louise and Towhead took money from others and Pusser took money from them...whats the difference between them? The dixie mafia is not like the regular mafia. It didn't even have a name until Rex Armisted tagged it with one. Marcello ran the New Orleans Mob, Traffacanti had the Miami mob , Gambino had his share of New York. If there is a Dixie Mafia, who sits at the head of the table?
Wow, now you sound just like Nix Jr... is he YOUR hero? Look here, dude, it's been amusing to say the least, but I'm tired and it's time for bed! I DID go to your yahoo group and I DID view the evidence presented there! I also looked at other testimony and evidence from others areas besides yours and you know what? Maybe there are some questionable items here and there, but I see NO conclusive proof to support your claim that Pusser was a criminal! Especially like Hathcock or White! Sorry!
Mike, please give it up... don't let your thoughts against Pusser sway you in your attacks against me! I HAVE looked, over and over, and I'm sorry if you just cannot DEAL with the fact that you and I do not agree! I'm tired and don't wish to fight with you. If you're so convinced of your stance, write a book or something and put all of your evidence before the general public so it can decide. Only, you have to accept it if they don't agree with you. I wish you luck in all of it. Peace out...
The shell casingsin one spot, the blood on the hood, the lack of an autopsy report, the lack of a polygraph examination, Pusser's car being chased down so easily, 4 hit men in one car with only one gun. If it was dark how did Pusser name the four men in the car? How did 4 hit men manage to catch him a second time and STILL fail to kill him? Why did no agency ever arrest any of the 4 known men? So much more... if you really looked, you apparently choose to ignore a lot...now, good night.
people love heros...they don't want the truth...the reality doesnt put buts in seats...if people really knew jesse james was a hardcore rebel southern racists redneck who who hunted slaves and was a member of the klan...they woudlnt go see brad pit romantiscize that shit..people love a good stroy..and heros.
The movies are a combination of truth and writers' license. Some of the events as depicted in the movie are not in the actual time frame. They are shown that way to make the story flow better. I use to see Buford Pusser all the time when I was growing up. Nothing is ever as glamorous as a movie. Even Elvis was not as glamorous in person when he was hanging around Graceland.
Sorry but some wrestler like the rock is nothing compared against Joe Don Baker and Bo Svenson. Its very sad that certain criminal elements can infest these youtube boards with their hate for Buford Pusser without a single proof of evidence i may add, a big stick to the back of their heads is unfortunately the only languange they understand.
Sorry sir, but I'm not too impressed with your bravado. Coming from the world of law enforcement myself I can tell you it is much easier to prove most of Pusser's stories as myth rather than truth. Try it yourself...try to prove the ambush happened as Pusser described and then try to prove it didn't happen the way he said..., then ask yourself just who needs a slap up the back of the head with a big stick.
I watched this story as a young man. I would go after the people who hurt my wife any way I can And yes, I believe Buford Pusser and I believe the ambush
happened as he said and in my opinion you are a criminal for not believing him
It is obvious that you have not done any reseach at all on the subject. Pusser IS the best suspect in his wife's death. Carl Douglas "Towhead" White was in Prison and Louise Hathcock was already dead at the time of the alleged ambush. The state line had been quiet for a full 18 months, so with that in mind who would you suggest hired 4 professional hitmen to take Pusser out? The ambush was staged to cover the murder of his wife. Look at the photos of Pusser's car, check his statements.
Something else for you to think about, why anyone would find it necessary to hire FOUR hitmen to kill one small town sheriff. Pusser named all four.., why were NONE ever arrested by the FBI, TBI or Pusser himself? Two of the four alleged hitmen hated he other..., Pusser didn't know that before he alleged they were in the car together. Wake up and smell the coffee..., Pusser was no hero..., he was part of the problem at the state line. He was getting a cut of the action. Do some research.
You watched the movie where Pusser shot and killed Cally Hacker in self defense. The real ladies name was Louise Hathcock and Pusser shot her in the Back twice before shooting her in the head from the front. I have her autopsy report on my forum crimemyths at yahoo groups. Just examine the autopsy report and compare its findings to Pusser own statements. The movie made Pusser out to be a hero. The movie producers should have checked their story better. Pusser was a criminal.
But you are wrong on the murder of his wife. He did not do it himself. No way he has his face blown off and thier were no guns left at scene other than his own which did not do the shooting.
Considering the witness that report that Pusser was at Hollis Jourdan's Beer Tavern BEFORE the ambush with a facial wound suggests that he was shoot by someone , possibly his wife Pauline. Did he kill her and set up the ambush sites to cover up her murder? That would explain why the ambush sites don't match his story of what happened. Have you seen the wound to his jaw? It wasn't nearly as serious as you have been led to believe. I have a photo of it. No way it was from a rifle.
This is true. Most of the movie was fictional and changed the names (or the characters in the movie were loosely based on real criminals Pusser dealt with).
I read the autopsy report from your own Yahoo Group website that you like to tout as "factual" and it makes no determination whatsoever to support your claims that Pusser murdered Hathcock. It does state that the fatal shot entered through her chin, so that was obviously from the front. Hathcock had a long criminal history, so don't think you can fool people out there into believing she was "murdered". There are also numerous reports of the State Line Mob putting out rumors against Pusser!
The medical examiner's job is to determine the cause of death, not to decide if a death was the result of murder. If you bothered to read Pussers statements you know he claimed his first shot was to Hathcock's shoulder, the second to her torso. The ME determined both of these shots enter from the back. Had you read on (crimemyths) you would know Hathcock's teeth were embedded in the carpet which indicated she was already lying on the floor when she wasshot the third time (execution style).
Mike, here's some research... Quoted from John Smith "As Buford walked behind Louise into the next room, Hathcock turned and pulled a pistol out of the robe she was wearing - took her first shot at Buford. Buford jumped back to keep from getting hit, he ended up falling over the bed. Hathcock ran over, pointed her gun at Buford for the second time and attempted to pull the trigger. Buford said the click of the hammer striking the shell sounded like a stick of dynamite exploding in his ears."
The gun misfired. The first shot fired from Bufords .41 caliber struck Hathcock in the left shoulder, spinning her around. The second shot hit Hathcock in the chest area, dropping her to the floor. Buford stated that even after Hathcock had been shot twice, she still tried to pull her gun up to try to get another shot off at Buford. Buford had no other choice but to fire another shot at Hathcock. The jurors ruled that Mrs. Hathcocks killing was justifiable homicide, and the case was closed.
So Mike, please explain to me WHY I should believe rumors that are being put forward by yourself in your own "crimemyths" yahoo group for the purpose to completely discredit Pusser, versus a Grand Jury that would have seen the exact same material or reports? You choose to draw one conclusion based on what you choose to hear, as others choose completely against you, including those who voted in the polls in your own yahoo group! Or perhaps, you might be related to someone from the State Line Mob?
First, Attorney General Wll Abernathy refused to submit the autopsy report for the grand jury's review. They made a decision without knowing all the facts. I CHOOSE to use credible evidence rather than the movie script you use in deciding what happened. Our forum is about finding the truth noyt about discrediting anyone. We allow the chips to fall where they may. I am related to no one from the state line although through reserach I have made friends with people from both sides of the story.
Gipper, you say you have seen the autposy report . The first shot hit Hathcock in the shoulder from the back. The second shot struck her torso from the back, The third shot entered her jaw and exited the back of her skull. Her teeth were embedded in the carpet.., this means she was lying on the floor when she was shot in the head. No eye witnesses to the shooting but again Howard Carroll reported hearing Pusser's .41 magnum fire BEFORE Hathcock's .38 Smith and Wesson, Do some research.
Mike, there is no proof at all that the shot to her shoulder was from the rear! Where exactly, please tell me, do you get off saying that it did. It was probably from the side as she was spinning from being shot. Secondly, how does one fire a shot through the chin to the back of the head if their teeth are embedded in a rug? That means they are face down! The autopsy report even says that the bullets were fired from a distance. I DID my research, AND without obvious bias, unlike yourself.
Also, you know what? I really could care less if there actually was evidence to support that Pusser fired first at Hathcock. Hathcock was a known criminal and was well known as being "Mean as a snake". She had been noted for having her Ex killed. She deserved her fate thru any means! Pusser certainly wasn't any Saint, but for Pete's sake, he was fighting the Dixie Mafia, the same group that Kirksey McCord Nix Jr. said never existed, and was also accused of ambushing his wife!
lol....Pusser was making money off the state liners. He was part of the problem at the state line, not part of the solution. Hathcock claimed that she shot her EX but the trigger person was most likely Towhead White. White had asked Bobby Floyd to borrow Jack Hathcock's gun so that Hathcock wound be unarmed and couldn't fight back against White, but of course you have done your researh and already know this ...right? Do you even know where the name Dixie Mafia came from? Hmmm?
Gipper, There is proof. Look at the autopsy diagram that shows the back of Hathcock's body. The wounds are clearly marked ENTRANCE. The diagram of the frontal view clarly has the wound marked EXIT. Bodies don't spin around as you suggest as a bullet goes through so quickly. "Spinning bodies" are the product of TV shows and movies.., we are talking reality her.., or at least I am. The autopsy report doesn't say anything about her teeth deing embedded in carpet. That was from people on scene
Then please tell me how the fatal shot came from the front "at a distance" thru her chin IF she was supposedly not facing Pusser at the time OR her teeth were down into the carpet? Were you there? The shoulder shot still was probably as she was turning from being shot at to begin with, especially if she was falling from the chin shot and Pusser kept firing! Me thinks you are too very quick to judge Pusser as the bad guy, instead of the snake Hathcock that he killed!
LOL where is your research? When you talk about the shoulder shot you have to use the word "probably:...don't you know the answer...I do. Pusser himself described the shoulder shot as his first shot, the torso shot as the second. The shot to her jaw was the third. the trajectory indicates that that Pusser fired from below her jaw at an upward angle. (She was on the floor for the third and final shot). Pusser was just like most of the state liners...he was bad. It was all about greed.
You're so full of it... you certainly wasn't there - no one was! You think with your BIAS that you know, but you don't know jack because you, me nor anyone else WASN'T THERE in the room to begin with! My "probably" is just as good as anything you offer and that is the fact! And, as I stated before (And you could never embrace), it was pure good that he took her down simply because of what an evil bitch she was to start with! Pusser certainly wasn't any Saint, but the people he fought were EVIL!
My Bias...lol. You won't even answer questions. I'll ask again.., why four hit men in one car with one gun? Why was Pusser not asked to submit to a polygraph examination? Why was there no autopsy on Pauline? How did blood get on the hood of the car since Pusser stated that neither he nor Pauline exited the vehicle? Why were the shell casings found in one spot rather than scatted down the roadway? Hathcock was dead and White was in prison, so who was behind the ambush? Please answer!
White was in prison at the time, yes, but it was widely thought that he masterminded the ambush to start with! White was on the FBIs list of the most dangerous criminals in the US and was gunned down in the El-Ray Motel in 1969! Since I wasn't present at the ambush (nor were you!) I cannot answer the one gun theory - ask Pusser. Why Pusser wasn't asked to submit to a Polygraph or why wasn't there an autopsy? Again, LACK OF EVIDENCE showed that Pusser was never a suspect in his wife's death!
Also, there WAS a shot and hole thru the windshield as seen in the photos of the Fury. This hole was located on the passenger side and just might correspond with any shots that hit Pauline's head and possibly brought any blood through that very hole! You try to influence the reader in your group's photo by saying "Note the blood on the fender and even on the roof of the car, but how little there is on the outside of the door. Whys is there so little blood on the door and so much on the hood?"
Your quote was "Note the blood on the fender and even on the roof of the car, but how little there is on the outside of the door. Whys is there so little blood on the door and so much on the hood?" The answer was that she was shot inside the vehicle and there WAS a great amount blood on the INSIDE of the door instead! This is shown in the very next picture in your group! This could have been part of the same blood that passed through the bullet hole onto the hood!
LOL..., you amaze me. There was a great amount of brain matter on the inside of the vehicle especially on the headliner, but not as much blood as one would expect to find. Why is that? How do you address Lavon Plunk's charge that Pusser placed Pauline on the inside of the car after he carried her to it? Blood is on the inside door panel. ROFLAO...that much blood went through a single bullet hole and onto the hood of a speeding vehicle? HAHaHa, chuckle, chuckle, give me a break today!
You're the amazing one... you try to portray it as though the hood of the Fury was COVERED in blood --- it WASN"T! The spots on the hood are all of the PASSENGER side, which corresponds with the bullet hole. Don't you think this alsos explaind as to why the FBI, TBI and any other law enforcement agency didn't go after Pusser, polygraph him or to do an autopsy on his wife? There is simply too many players there to overlook the possibility that Pusser killed her! And it hasn't changed since!
Widely thought??? White was on the TEXAS list of 10 most wanted not on the FBI list. Thats the difference between you and I.., I am a trained investigator. No, I wasn't at the ambush but I can tell you that the evidence does not support Pusser's version of what happened. Your BIAS to Pusser will not even allow you to look at him as a suspect. Are you a hero worshipper? Why is it so difficult for you to simply look at the questions and search for logical answers?
Listen Jack, whether you're a "trained investigator" is up for question in my mind... it doesn't matter to me or make you any better than anyone else on this forum! I don't think Pusser was a Saint by any means. He may have dealt with the devil at times, but doing so to try and keep a little order with the Rattlesnake Group that was the State Line Mob and the Dixie Mafia! Please DO NOT tell me that you prefer that EVIL group over anything Pusser might have done! THAT would be amazing!
lol...Pusser WAS one of the rattlesnakes. No I don't prefer evil..., thats why Iam opposed to what Pusser was! He was just as bad as the state liners that you want to put down. Trying to keep a little order? Are you kidding me? Seems like he only busted those that wouldn't pay him. Thats not "keeping a little order". Do you really endorse that kind of behavior in a sheriff? Not me, I want to work for a good one.
This is EXACTLY why I wouldn't dream of giving the likes of you my phone number... you are truly way too freakin' eager to show Pusser as a bad guy versus the freakin' Mafia! OMG, do you even realize how you look? It's amazing how most of McNairy County (I didn't say all) view Pusser as a hero, not a criminal. And that doesn't mean just your small sample of people (including Mobsters or Moonshiners) that portray Pusser differently. His methods were cruel, but look at who he was dealing with!
Do you have a problem with the truth? Both Pusser and the state liners were bad..., whats your point, that I won't lie for Pusser?Adamsville is about the only place in McNairy county that still supports Pusser. Tell me, how much money do you think Pusser should have been allowed to take for his personal use from those moonshiners and bootleggers? How much did he deserve to keep? How much should he have been allowed to keep from the Club Operators? If he was honest why should he get any?
BTW..., you don't want to talk about this because you know you don't have any answers. Like most people in the hot seat rather than answer a question, you try to distract people by trying to ask questions. Heres another one for you that you haven't answered. Don't you think it a little strange that ALL of Pusser's gunshot wounnd were to the left side of this body. all superficial except for one and there were never any witnesses to the shootings? (As I said Pusser was right handed)
How about his stab wounds gipper, never very serious and the only witness to any of the stabbings , County Coroner Ward Moore, said that the stabbing that Pusser claimed never happened. Keep in mind that Moore was and still is a good friend of Henry Peeler, so why would Moore lie?
Why were none of the assailants ever caught? Come on you got to have something besides rhetoric..., how about a real answer this time.
Hey Gipper, you seem to think that all of the state liners were bad. Exactly what is a "State liner"? I think we would agree that Louise and Towhead were state liners, but what about W.O. Hathcock? He operated a club at the state line but what bad have you heard about him? Pusser and two friends robbed and beat him and he filed a police report and was hospitalized for two weeks. Why didn't Pusser file a report when he claimed he was robbed and beaten? What else do you know about W,O,?
Mike, W.O. Hathcock certainly shares no distinction with the rest of the State Line Mob or the Dixie Mafia. But don't try an portray most of either group as being good! History has already spoke VOLUMES on them and has judged them correctly. Having relatives from the areas of both Kentucky and Tennessee, I have heard numerous horror stories of those groups already and how they had the prostitution, gambling and bootleg liquor galore and how you took your life in your own hands by going there!
Paul Moore had Moores Place near the state line. Was he evil? Tell me all about him. What about R.C. Matlcok..., one of Pusser's deputies..he operated a joint near the state line while he was a deputy. Was he evil? Tell us what you know here. PLEASE unleash you vast knowledge regarding the state line.
W.R. Morris made W.O. Hathcock look like a very evil man, yet in my research I can't find much to back much of what he said about W.O. (I guess thats my agenda talking). .
Cmon Mikey, I never ever said that every one who operated on the State Line was corrupt, just a distinct faction of them instead. And as I said before (just like other statements you chose to ignore), I said that W.O. Hathcock shared no affiliation in the MOB or the Dixie Mafia. Like yourself, I don't see him as being of major importance in criminal activities of any group. Remember, you had me saying W.O. Hathcock was evil before and I had to point out to you that I never said a word of him!
Come on gippy, now your backing up...your statements initially cast all state liners in the same light. It took you a bit to mention that W.O. shared no affiliation with the mob. What about the others I mentioned? Paul Moore, Matlock etc? My point is the real trouble was limited to a few spots, thge Shamrock and White Iris being the main two. So why did Pusser take payoffs from them and others. Katherine Adkins and Betty Sparks liked Buford even though they paid him. Did that make it right
Sparks and Adkins, like many others saw payoffs as a cost of doing business. Pusser was making a lot of money with payoffs..,did you really think he wanted to be sheriff to clean this mess up? Alcorn County Sheriff Cleaton Wilbanks on the other hand took his oath seriously. Now there was a real hero. He couldn't be bought. Now, thats my kind of sheriff. One who enforces the law and accepts a pay check from only one employer...the county he serves.
Sparks and Adkins, doing business... hmmm probably as Club Owners doing illegal business in the first place no doubt? And you are seriously just going to take their word over someone who has been dead for over 34 years and cannot defend himself against your accusations and BIAS today? All I can say to that is "wow Mike". I have every confidence that Willbanks was a good Sheriff and I for one thank him here for his service to the citizens of Alcorn County... he certainly deserves it, I'm sure!
lol... you are so ,misinformed. You are reading what a reporter wrote. THERE WERE NO WITNESSES TO THE SHOOTING!!!. Chief Deputy Jim Moffett was the closet person to the shooting and he was in the next room. Why did Attorney general Will Aberrnathy refuse to use the autopsy report in a grand jury hearing? Why did he not allow the testimony of Howard Carroll who described what he heard...that being Buford's .41 magnum fired before Hathcock's? Don't you have anything better?
The producers/writers of the films took alot of "Artistic Liberties",to make the story more exciting. When researching Bufords story for the film back in the late 60s,if they would have found any evidence of wrong doing or criminal activity by Buford, its doubtful the 1973 film would have been made. Yeah....Buford was no better than the criminals he busted....and there were two gunmen in Dallas in 1963.... and 9/11 was a government conspiracy........
PS It seems to be many Buford Pusser haters here, criminals naturally. Who else would hate such a legendary sheriff?? Insane weirdos can write insane books and say Buford killed his wife and stuff like that but when a quick look on wikipedia says who did it!
Actionlovers, if you are referring to me as a Buford "Pusser Hater" you are wrong. Being a former law enforcement officer from Buford's era I was interested in his career and what things were really like as compared to the movie. I have copies of the ambush photos, photos of Buford's wounds,a copy of the autopsy report of the woman that Buford shot in the back (twice), and I have been to McNairy County to interview people who were part of the story. Tell me sir, what have you got?
Do you believe that she hasn't heard this before? She promotes the legend of her dad carrying a "big stick" when in reality he didn't. She was only six years old when her mother died and most of the stuff that Buford said happened to was when she was even younger.
Have you actually tried looking at the evidence or are you such a hero worshipper that you can't be objective? Pauline Pusser's murder is still an open case...why not look into it?
I have worked hard to show the facts. What makes you think its garbage? The murder of Pauline Pusser is actually a 41 year old cold case. Ask yourself this..., If Buford named the assassins, why did no one including Buford Pusser ever arrest any of them? Why would the FBI and TBI ignore the information he gave them? Why is there so much blood on the hood of his Fury if neither he nor Pauline got out of the car? Why is their so little blood on the outside of the passenger door?
why in gods name would you be arguing about evidence from more than 40 years ago... im not going to say any of the films were 100% correct because they are movies..but seriously, your telling people to look at evidence from a time that was horribly corrupted, when the law was easy as hell to pay off,and not to mention were quite corrupted themselfs, drugs, murder, money laundering ...you name it,they prob did it.
Don't you care that a person who Hollywood has celebrated as a hero may have been corrupt and possibly guilty of murder? What does it matter to you if someone looks for proof that he was corrupt as so many of his peers charge? For many who claim they were wronged by Pusser, it gives them some closure to know that the truth is finally coming out. It may have been 40 years but a lot of those who were there and lived it have expressed thier appreciate for the story being more accurately retold.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The stick was nothing more than a Hollywood prop. When he went back to rob the Plantation Club, he took two friends with him. Jerry Wright and Marvin King Jr. W.O. Hathcock who owned the club accused Marvin King Jr , not Buford Pusser, of beating him with a blunt object . Pusser Claimed he was in Chicago when Hathcock was robbed. What Pusser like to do was fight anyone that he knew he could whip.
wikipedia has contributors who often post incorrect information. This is indeed the case with Buford Pusser. Why don't you try looking a something real, like the autopsy report on Louise Hathcock which shows that she was shot in the back (twice ) by Pusser.
That is from an official state document. Why don't you try looking at photos of Pusser's car after the ambush? They made me ask questions. Why is there no know record of Buford being attacked and carved up as shown in the movie? Hmmm???
Its time for people to wake up and smell the coffee. Many of us who were once hard core fans of Buford Pusser have learned things that we can no longer overlook. It wasn't about a man trying to stamp out crime at the state line. The real story seems to be about a sheriff trying to get his own piece of the pie. Too many people from both side of the story, law enforcement as well as state liners, tell the hows and whys but so many people believe the movies that their voices are not heard.
yeah! Buford Pusser kicked ass! and i dont give a shit if he was crooked in real life. he was probably fucking up a bunch of racist rednecks anyway. and im not saying all southern white people are racist. times were rough back then, im sure he had to bend the rules a bit.
It wasn't about "bending the rules", it was about breaking them for his own gain. It didn't seem to be about helping people so much getting a cut of the action for himself. Very little of what you see in the movies comes close to what really happened according to those that were there. He didn't have to been the rules. Sheriff Wilbanks in neighboring Alcorn County Mississippi had the other side of the state line and he enforced the law without "bending the rules". Pusser made a choice.
The real story of Sheriff Buford Pusser was far more violent and tragic than the movie let on.

the sheriff Buford Pusser was a real man--a man who didn't take no crap from nobody
micmoable 1 year ago 2
@itallxit2 I suggest that you talk to some of the people who lived the real story along with Buford. They speak of corruption corruption, payoffs and possible murder. The real Buford Pusser was not like the man we were shown in the movies. The real story is far more interesting than the movie.
mikeelam2010 1 year ago
The origibnal "WALKING TALL" was one of the best movies of all times!!! To bad they didn't tell the real story. To see a photo of Buford's face after he was shot go crimemyths. Just type crimemyths in your internet search box. Lots of photos, documents and Louise Hathcocks autopsy report. etc

Did Obra die in part 2 or something because I notice Burford at a black funeral
ohiostmarine29203 1 year ago
@ohiostmarine29203 In the movie Obra was driving Buford's car(the brake lines had been cut). Killed in head on with a logging truck.
Buford's real life black deputy was Dave Lipford. He actually died of cancer. He was about 57 or 58 years old when he died. Nothing like what you saw in the movie.
Buford's two main deputies in real life were Jim Moffett and Peatie Plunk. While "Walking Tall" was entertaining, the real story is so much more interesting.
Visit crimemyths for photos

@mikeelam2010 Thanks...Now I'm sad knowing Obra died in it
ohiostmarine29203 1 year ago
@ohiostmarine29203 Felton Perry played Obra in the movie. He and Bruce Glover (Grady) are still friends to this day. Niether had any adia at the time that "WalkingTall" wasn't the true story that it was billed as. During the filming producers advised them to stay out of neighboring McNairy County because of the damnger there and even got them permits to carry handguns. Little did anyone know at the time that the movie was FAR, FAR more fiction than fact.
mikeelam2010 1 year ago
@mikeelam2010 Towhead White was dead (1969), Louise Hathcock was dead (1966) and there were no real threats left. Ironically, many locals believe Buford murdered Pauline and staged the ambush. A recent reconstruction indicated that the ambush didn't occur in the manner Buford told the TBI. Many are now surprised to learn that many locals claim they paid Buford to operate, jclubs, moonshine and bootleg outside the law. Buford was a big part of the problem at the state line, not the solution.
mikeelam2010 1 year ago
@mikeelam2010 "Buford was a big part of the problem at the state line, not the solution" Sounds a lot like the statements & theories Barbara Blivins made. - Publisher Barbara Bivins says, "I don't think Buford Pusser was part of the solution. I thought he was part of the problem." (WMCTV News) - For those of you who don't know, Barbara Bivins was married to Bobby Bivins, a state liner, one of the bad guys. So you can see who Mike is siding with here.
TREVORALLEN2010 1 year ago
@TREVORALLEN2010 Trever, Can you not read? Yes the state liners were criiminals I never said they weren't. What I did say was that Buford was part of the problem at the state line, not part of the solution. Pusser took payoffs and allowed the state liner to do their thing. I faill on the side of the truth and the truth is that there were no good guys in this story. Why do you have a problem with that? Are you a Buford Pusser worshipper? Do you need a hero that badly?

Oh and Mike, before you start nitpicking about typos, you should go back and proof read what you type - especially on your lame yahoo group . I have never seen such poor grammar and mispelling in my life. How did you ever pass a written exam for the force? Did you know someone who "overlooked" you're 6th grade education and let you slip by? How does it feel to work for a company that imports from China and pays their own people 50 cents a day? Ferguson was right about you.

Great film, oh yea, please don't mention that POS remake.
douglas787 2 years ago 3
Great movie but it is filled with inaccuracies. For instance Buford had the assistance of two friends when he robbed the Plantation Club (real name).
It was Buford's friend Marvin King Jr who used the blunt instrument to beat the club owner, not Buford as the movie showed, and the owner was the only one in the club at the time of the robbery. From there, the accuracy of the movie never improves. The movie was all about making money..., not telling the true story. No tears here.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
For the real story type crimemyths in your Internet search box. Lots of photos, documents and audio files with excepts from interviews with people that lived the "Walking Tall" story.
See a photo of Buford's jaw after he was shot. It all on crimemyths
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
@douglas787 The problem is most of it never happened. When Buford robbed the Lucky Spot (Plantation Club) he did so with the help of two friends, Jerry Wright and Marvin King Jr. Only one man, W,O Hathcock, was in the club when it was robbed. The real ambush was also totally different from the movie version. Many locals, including Paulines best friend, feel that Buford murdered Pauline. For more info on Buford and the state line type crimemyths in your search box.

I know Bo and he had some pretty wild insights on Pusser.
chadsummers01 2 years ago
Again Gipper, why were all of the shell casings in the ambush found in the same spot as opposed to being scattered down the road as one might have expected to find them? What does your research tell you about this? It was dark according to Buford when the ambush occurred.., how was he able to name the four people that he accused? Why four professional hit men and only one gun? What does your research tell you here? What about the blood on the hood of the Fury? How did it get there? ANSWERS?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
If the car did drive up and they were shooting at him, don't you honestly think that Pusser might have seen or recognized his attackers? It's called common sense here, for Pete's sake! Plus, you like to sight Nix as someone who has vehemently denied doing the ambush, but he ALSO has denied just as hard that the Dixie Mafia never existed to begin with! Nix has no credibility at all - Nix is in prison now in Louisiana for life for other murders!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Gipper, I have no bias here. Some of the state liners were bad, but Pusser was their equal in the opinion of people who lived the story. Pusser was making money by accepting payoffs for allowing these people to operate outside the law. I have backed up what I have said ...,have you? Kirksey Nix? Can you place him at the ambush or did Pusser just name him as a fall guy. Why was Nix ever arrested? Why were the other three men Pusser named as being involved in the ambush NEVER ARRESTED?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
SOME of the State Liners were bad??? Huh??? That says quite a bit of what you think, right there! Man, those people were evil, and if Pusser had to make some deals with devil (not to the extent you say) in order to beat them, then so be it! Perhaps the reason why Nix or any others were never arrested was simply for the same reason that Pusser was NEVER ARRESTED for the ambush of his wife - because there wasn't EVIDENCE to charge him with the crime!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Once again you show your ignorance. W.O. Hathcock was nothing like Louise Hathcock or Towhead White. He operated a club, but can you tell me of problems there? Pusser claimed he was beaten and robbed there biut there is no police or medical record to back his claims. Pusser and two friends later robbed the Plantation Club Marvin King Jr used a blunt instrument to beat W.O. Hathcock. It was not Pusser as the movie showed. Pusser never used a big stick. You need to do a lot more research.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
I haven't even mentioned W.O. Hathcock... WTF are you talking about??? YOU are the ignorant one, pal! I have ONLY referred to Louise Hathcock and the evil bitch that she was! Perhaps part of your problem is reading comprehension, simply because your BIAS is so great against Pusser??? ANd yes, I do know the movie is incorrect in showing Pusser robbing the Club in the movie! Just as you have stated to others, I can also research the internet over and over and counterpoint you again!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Deals with the Devil? Pusser was after pay offs, it wasn't about shutting down the state line. Oh yes, there was enough evidence to charge him with a crime but others would not allow it to happen. Why didn't the medical examiner or County Attorney General insist in an autopsy on Pauline? Why was Pusser never polygraphed? Can you even place Nix there at the time of the ambush? Why don't you ever answer my questions> Is it because your research gives you NO answers?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Simple questions- simple answers... there wasn't any or enough evidence to suggest that Pusser had his wife murdered, especially in consideration that to do so, he had to shoot his own face, then have 16 plastic surgeries performed in Memphis to try and correct the damage! This and the simple fact that Pusser was NEVER suspected by the FBI, TBI or his own county speaks VOLUMES against your theory. Same reasoning goes for why Nix or White were never arrested because of lack of evidence!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Wrong answers Columbo...many of thos e16 operations were to correct injuries to his eye from a CAR ACCIDENT. The FBI never investigated the ambush, they only offered their lab services to local authorities. Warren Jones of the TBI suspected Pusser but his higher ups held him back. Nix and White were not arrested because THEY WERE NOT INVOLVED. Did it ever occur to you that Pusser had help staging the ambush?
I emailed you my phone # last night. My offer to talk still stands. Call me.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Hey Columbo... please PROVE to me that Pusser was in the hospital over injuries to his eye! I'll go you another one further -- If that was the case, then also explain as to why that while Pusser was a patient in Memphis, the Shelby County Sheriffs Dept. thought it would be best if they kept a deputy around the clock at Bufords door of the hospital? They don't do that just for a previous eye injury! C'mon....
gipper1066 2 years ago
You know, it's so easy to try and say someone was on the take, corrupt or a murderer, especially more that 30 years afterward. But when all you have is RUMOR and BIAS, your AGENDA really begins to show! I have no desire to give you my phone # as this forum, especially in light of the apparent hostility of your attacks, will be quite sufficient for me!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Sonny Olin Davis, Selmer PD, Rex Armisted Mississippi investigator, Charlie Goforth, Mississippi Investigator, Skeet Adkins, Club operator, Betty Sparks, Club Operator Lavon Plunk(McNairy County Deputies wife) ALL had bad things to say about Pusser...people from both sides of the story. FIRST HAND ACCOUNTS, no rumor, not Bias, not agenda..., just the truth. YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
(AND YOUR AFRAID TO CALL)
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Come on...you haven't answered a lot of my questions regarding the ambush.., stop stalling.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
And there it is! You CANNOT PROVE that Pusser was in the hospital for a previous eye surgery, can you??? I knew you couldn't and it doesn't surprise me one bit. I ASKED YOU to prove it and WHAT do you do? You tell me to prove he was there for the gunshot wound otherwise! Listen here, Mikey... there's a little thing here called History and it says in 42 years now that Pusser was in for the gunshot wound and NOT for an eye surgery! That is the written history and you CANNOT DISPROVE IT!
gipper1066 2 years ago
lol I'm waiting for you to prove that those 16 operations were all about injuries from the ALLEGED ambush...you can't prove that can you? Can YOU prove me wrong?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
My frustration is showing??? ROTFLMAO LOLOLOLOL Mikey, you are one who is FRUSTRATED! Why? Because you cannot prove that someone was just as bad as the Mob and it irritates you to no end, doesn't it? What's the matter, you waved your hand and couldn't convert another to your way of BIASED thinking? Mikey, the word to describe me here is AMUSED and I must admit I'm having a rather good time playing Point-Counterpoint with you! Especially when I refuse to roll over and bow to your flawed logic!
gipper1066 2 years ago
If you are really having a good time with this point counterpoint, why don't you call? And again, you are avoiding answering questions... why? Are logical answers that fit your agenda hard to come by? Thats what amuses me ...that you are in a corner and can't answer questions...a sure sign of someone who doesn't know what they are talking about!
Come on...got proof yet that all sixteen operations were related to the ambush?
How about the shell casings being in one spot?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
LOLOLOLOLOLOL C'mon Mikey, don't show how irritated you are with me all in one post! Do I have to SAY IT AGAIN as to why I won't call you??? Did you even READ my response to your SAME QUESTION before? What you cannot stand is the History had already judged Pusser to be better than the Mob or the Dixie Mafia and you are literally having a heart attack trying to prove otherwise at any cost that Pusser wasn't! I very seriously doubt you EVER saw Pusser as anything but a bad guy to start with!
gipper1066 2 years ago
You cannot PROVE, you can only ACCUSE, Pusser of being a bad guy, and it irritates you to no end that I refuse to buy in to your manufactured yahoo group "crimemyths" hidden agenda of discrediting Pusser by any means! I've read your posts, your comments, your photo narratives and all you ever do is try to discredit Pusser at every single turn. Not exactly what one would call an "Objective" group by any means! I am more than certain any Pusser supporter out there would slam you hard!
gipper1066 2 years ago
I beg to disagree. Had Pusser been brought up on charges he would have had a lot of people from BOTH sides of the aisle testifying against him as witnesses. Olin Sonny Davis wanted to go after him for distribuation of drugs, Warren Jones knew about his corruption as sheriff. Club owners could have rolled on Pusser over him requiring them to make payoffs. You disagree with my accessment of photo evidence, many agree with me. Tell me, why do you want Pusser remembered so kindly?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
The FACT is that Pusser was NEVER EVER brought upon charges and that 34 years after his death, there hasn't been any dramatic undertaking BY ANYONE to show that he was a criminal as you so desperately wish to portray him! You can give me all the "Hads" you want, but those and 50 cents still won't buy you a cup of coffee! Where have Davis, Jones or the Club Owners been if they really thought that they had any case at all in showing Pusser as the Bad Guy? Pusser had the evidence, they didn't!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Again, Pusser had friends in high places that made sure he was not brought up on charges. He got away with all of this from 1964 on..., does the fact that he wasn't caught before his death make it right that he did it in the first place.., yeah, I know, you, have an agenda and want to argue schematics, but at the end of the day he was a corrupt sheriff who didn't shut down all the joints as people like you believe he did. Had he been prosecuted he would have done prison time.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Nice try again, Mikey boy, but you lose because you or your obvious BIAS simply have never had the evidence to show OR reverse what history has already judged and found - that Pusser, not a perfect man, tried to make a difference against the Mob and the Dixie Mafia and illegal moonshine. It's that simple and just because YOU say that Pusser was a criminal makes it nowhere near FACT! Sorry, history is NOT ON YOUR SIDE! Face it, Mike, you gave it a good go, but you came up short!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Its an excellent acheivement actually, to find so many people on BOTH sides of the story that agree on the moral fiber (or lack of) regarding Buford Pusser. Little did I expect that I would find criminals, business people and lawenforcement officers alike that would all tell similar things about a single man. Maybe you should try talking to some of these people as I have ..., I once saw Pusser as a hero and I overcame that particular bias. Theres hope for you too.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Just because a man never stood trial or was not found guilty, doesn't mean he wasn't guilty. OJ Simpson...was he guilty of murder? We all have an opinion. Gippy what do you think would have happened if Will Abernathy had introduced Louise Hathcock's autopsy report to the grand jury? Better yet, what if he had asked Dr Jerry Fransisco to explain, in detail, his findings. Still think Pusser would be "no billed". Sometime the system fails us all.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Why did Abernathy not present the autopsy report on Louise Hathcock to the grand jury? Why was Pusser never asked to take a polygraph? When Pauline was killed, why was no autopsy done and again, why was there no polygraph examination? Russ Hamilton...same questions.... Who do you think was protecting Pusser? Why was he being protected? Do you actually believe that the ambush required 4 him men in one vehicle with one gun? Why no arrests? If it walks like a Duck........
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
The difference IS, Mikey boy, that OJ went to trial and that Pusser NEVER DID! He was never put before a grand jury as a suspect in any wrong doing. You can try and blur the lines all you want with your "what ifs" and "better yets", but once again, you continue to come up short and fail to convince the majority of people that Pusser was a criminal! And I say that the system really begins to fail when there are those who take a criminal's word as fact over a dead sheriff who cannot defend himself
gipper1066 2 years ago
Thats my point, Pusser never went to trial...but he should have. Once again a you distort the facts when you say "take a criminals word over a dead sheriff". What about the law enforcement officer who say he was corrupt? Who has the bias here? You leave out the parts you can't deal with.
Tell me...why is it so important to you that Pusser be a hero?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Oh please Mikey... I'll be just like you here: please tell us all of exactly how many people, who they are, where they're from, how they knew the parties of the times or what relation, if any, they had with Pusser and the Mob and the Dixie Mafia, where they now live, etc, etc... Unless you write a book and can actually back it up beyond question, you're going to have to do a hell of a lot better than portraying your own BIASED conclusions as the facts! Many competing writers are against you!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Lets see...because they don't fit your agenda or bias, You choose to ignore photos, documentaion, statements of people who were there on both sides of the story and yet you criticize me for considering those items while you provide us with absolutely nothing to show that Pusser deserved his hero. status. Well done ....I'm convinced....that you are totally out of touch.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
LOL...gippy..., stick your head in the sand...ignore everything...that won't change the FACTS that have been uncovered. As I said, I did once have a bias...in favor of Pusser! I allowed myself to examine the evidence like Hathcocks Autopsy report. I choose to examine the carefully the photos of the ambush. I decided to listen to people who were there from BOTH sides of the story. What is it again that yo have done to draw your conclusions? HMMMM?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
What you don't understand gippy, is that people were lied to regarding Pusser. that's why they judged him so kindly. What if they had known the truth? In the 30's most Germans thought Hitler was the greatest thing since pockets on shirts. They learned the truth..., what do they think now? (I'm not comparing Pusser to Hitler, just using him as an example of how history now remembers him).
As far as how I initially viewed Pusser, please read my first two years of posts on the forum.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Oh please, how desperate are you now to bring Hitler in to this? The first thing you're talking of here is the Dixie Line Mafia, with possible ties through Nix Jr. to Sam Giancana! They were entrenched at the state line for many years before Pusser even took office. And as I recall Hitler, the State Line Mob and the Dixie Mafia were all judged criminals by history. By your logic, did people lie about Hitler and those groups being criminals as they supposedly lied about Pusser being a good guy???
gipper1066 2 years ago
Oh Please, I gave a disclaimer regarding my remarks on Hitler, so don't even try to turn that around. Nix tied to Sam Giancana? I don't think so...lol. Exactly who was entrenched at the state line before Pusser? ALL of those evil state liners that we now agree were not ALL so evil. Come on man...show me someting here...make your case about Pusser being a hero...so far you have failed miserably. All you have done is defend him against allegations of wrong doing. How was he a hero?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Pusser is not necessarily my hero, Mikey... it's just that I certainly think he was much much better than the Dixie Mafia ever was. The Dixie Mafia, the same group that Nix was part of said "never existed", operated out of multiple state locations, originally originating down the road in Mississippi! Do you really think they didn't try to influence any bar owners at the State Line? And, it is UPON YOU to show that Pusser WAS a bad guy, not for me to show he wasn't!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Thats where you and I disagree. Pusser was just like Louise Hathcock and Towhead White. Louise and Towhead took money from others and Pusser took money from them...whats the difference between them? The dixie mafia is not like the regular mafia. It didn't even have a name until Rex Armisted tagged it with one. Marcello ran the New Orleans Mob, Traffacanti had the Miami mob , Gambino had his share of New York. If there is a Dixie Mafia, who sits at the head of the table?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Wow, now you sound just like Nix Jr... is he YOUR hero? Look here, dude, it's been amusing to say the least, but I'm tired and it's time for bed! I DID go to your yahoo group and I DID view the evidence presented there! I also looked at other testimony and evidence from others areas besides yours and you know what? Maybe there are some questionable items here and there, but I see NO conclusive proof to support your claim that Pusser was a criminal! Especially like Hathcock or White! Sorry!
gipper1066 2 years ago
You just haven't looked deep enough..., in fact, you have hardly looked at all.
Good night.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Mike, please give it up... don't let your thoughts against Pusser sway you in your attacks against me! I HAVE looked, over and over, and I'm sorry if you just cannot DEAL with the fact that you and I do not agree! I'm tired and don't wish to fight with you. If you're so convinced of your stance, write a book or something and put all of your evidence before the general public so it can decide. Only, you have to accept it if they don't agree with you. I wish you luck in all of it. Peace out...
gipper1066 2 years ago
The shell casingsin one spot, the blood on the hood, the lack of an autopsy report, the lack of a polygraph examination, Pusser's car being chased down so easily, 4 hit men in one car with only one gun. If it was dark how did Pusser name the four men in the car? How did 4 hit men manage to catch him a second time and STILL fail to kill him? Why did no agency ever arrest any of the 4 known men? So much more... if you really looked, you apparently choose to ignore a lot...now, good night.

The movies are a combination of truth and writers' license. Some of the events as depicted in the movie are not in the actual time frame. They are shown that way to make the story flow better. I use to see Buford Pusser all the time when I was growing up. Nothing is ever as glamorous as a movie. Even Elvis was not as glamorous in person when he was hanging around Graceland.

mastersofdeath6691 3 years ago 5
Sorry sir, but I'm not too impressed with your bravado. Coming from the world of law enforcement myself I can tell you it is much easier to prove most of Pusser's stories as myth rather than truth. Try it yourself...try to prove the ambush happened as Pusser described and then try to prove it didn't happen the way he said..., then ask yourself just who needs a slap up the back of the head with a big stick.
What criminal elements infest the Internet?
mikeelam2010 3 years ago
I watched this story as a young man. I would go after the people who hurt my wife any way I can And yes, I believe Buford Pusser and I believe the ambush
happened as he said and in my opinion you are a criminal for not believing him
Wndtalker1 2 years ago 4
It is obvious that you have not done any reseach at all on the subject. Pusser IS the best suspect in his wife's death. Carl Douglas "Towhead" White was in Prison and Louise Hathcock was already dead at the time of the alleged ambush. The state line had been quiet for a full 18 months, so with that in mind who would you suggest hired 4 professional hitmen to take Pusser out? The ambush was staged to cover the murder of his wife. Look at the photos of Pusser's car, check his statements.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Something else for you to think about, why anyone would find it necessary to hire FOUR hitmen to kill one small town sheriff. Pusser named all four.., why were NONE ever arrested by the FBI, TBI or Pusser himself? Two of the four alleged hitmen hated he other..., Pusser didn't know that before he alleged they were in the car together. Wake up and smell the coffee..., Pusser was no hero..., he was part of the problem at the state line. He was getting a cut of the action. Do some research.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
You watched the movie where Pusser shot and killed Cally Hacker in self defense. The real ladies name was Louise Hathcock and Pusser shot her in the Back twice before shooting her in the head from the front. I have her autopsy report on my forum crimemyths at yahoo groups. Just examine the autopsy report and compare its findings to Pusser own statements. The movie made Pusser out to be a hero. The movie producers should have checked their story better. Pusser was a criminal.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
I might agree on the Hathcock shooting.
But you are wrong on the murder of his wife. He did not do it himself. No way he has his face blown off and thier were no guns left at scene other than his own which did not do the shooting.
NWAfan 2 years ago
Considering the witness that report that Pusser was at Hollis Jourdan's Beer Tavern BEFORE the ambush with a facial wound suggests that he was shoot by someone , possibly his wife Pauline. Did he kill her and set up the ambush sites to cover up her murder? That would explain why the ambush sites don't match his story of what happened. Have you seen the wound to his jaw? It wasn't nearly as serious as you have been led to believe. I have a photo of it. No way it was from a rifle.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
This is true. Most of the movie was fictional and changed the names (or the characters in the movie were loosely based on real criminals Pusser dealt with).
LeanaHM76 2 years ago
I read the autopsy report from your own Yahoo Group website that you like to tout as "factual" and it makes no determination whatsoever to support your claims that Pusser murdered Hathcock. It does state that the fatal shot entered through her chin, so that was obviously from the front. Hathcock had a long criminal history, so don't think you can fool people out there into believing she was "murdered". There are also numerous reports of the State Line Mob putting out rumors against Pusser!
gipper1066 2 years ago
The medical examiner's job is to determine the cause of death, not to decide if a death was the result of murder. If you bothered to read Pussers statements you know he claimed his first shot was to Hathcock's shoulder, the second to her torso. The ME determined both of these shots enter from the back. Had you read on (crimemyths) you would know Hathcock's teeth were embedded in the carpet which indicated she was already lying on the floor when she wasshot the third time (execution style).
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Mike, here's some research... Quoted from John Smith "As Buford walked behind Louise into the next room, Hathcock turned and pulled a pistol out of the robe she was wearing - took her first shot at Buford. Buford jumped back to keep from getting hit, he ended up falling over the bed. Hathcock ran over, pointed her gun at Buford for the second time and attempted to pull the trigger. Buford said the click of the hammer striking the shell sounded like a stick of dynamite exploding in his ears."
gipper1066 2 years ago
The gun misfired. The first shot fired from Bufords .41 caliber struck Hathcock in the left shoulder, spinning her around. The second shot hit Hathcock in the chest area, dropping her to the floor. Buford stated that even after Hathcock had been shot twice, she still tried to pull her gun up to try to get another shot off at Buford. Buford had no other choice but to fire another shot at Hathcock. The jurors ruled that Mrs. Hathcocks killing was justifiable homicide, and the case was closed.
gipper1066 2 years ago
So Mike, please explain to me WHY I should believe rumors that are being put forward by yourself in your own "crimemyths" yahoo group for the purpose to completely discredit Pusser, versus a Grand Jury that would have seen the exact same material or reports? You choose to draw one conclusion based on what you choose to hear, as others choose completely against you, including those who voted in the polls in your own yahoo group! Or perhaps, you might be related to someone from the State Line Mob?
gipper1066 2 years ago
First, Attorney General Wll Abernathy refused to submit the autopsy report for the grand jury's review. They made a decision without knowing all the facts. I CHOOSE to use credible evidence rather than the movie script you use in deciding what happened. Our forum is about finding the truth noyt about discrediting anyone. We allow the chips to fall where they may. I am related to no one from the state line although through reserach I have made friends with people from both sides of the story.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Gipper, you say you have seen the autposy report . The first shot hit Hathcock in the shoulder from the back. The second shot struck her torso from the back, The third shot entered her jaw and exited the back of her skull. Her teeth were embedded in the carpet.., this means she was lying on the floor when she was shot in the head. No eye witnesses to the shooting but again Howard Carroll reported hearing Pusser's .41 magnum fire BEFORE Hathcock's .38 Smith and Wesson, Do some research.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Mike, there is no proof at all that the shot to her shoulder was from the rear! Where exactly, please tell me, do you get off saying that it did. It was probably from the side as she was spinning from being shot. Secondly, how does one fire a shot through the chin to the back of the head if their teeth are embedded in a rug? That means they are face down! The autopsy report even says that the bullets were fired from a distance. I DID my research, AND without obvious bias, unlike yourself.
gipper1066 2 years ago
Also, you know what? I really could care less if there actually was evidence to support that Pusser fired first at Hathcock. Hathcock was a known criminal and was well known as being "Mean as a snake". She had been noted for having her Ex killed. She deserved her fate thru any means! Pusser certainly wasn't any Saint, but for Pete's sake, he was fighting the Dixie Mafia, the same group that Kirksey McCord Nix Jr. said never existed, and was also accused of ambushing his wife!
gipper1066 2 years ago
lol....Pusser was making money off the state liners. Hmmm?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Gipper, There is proof. Look at the autopsy diagram that shows the back of Hathcock's body. The wounds are clearly marked ENTRANCE. The diagram of the frontal view clarly has the wound marked EXIT. Bodies don't spin around as you suggest as a bullet goes through so quickly. "Spinning bodies" are the product of TV shows and movies.., we are talking reality her.., or at least I am. The autopsy report doesn't say anything about her teeth deing embedded in carpet. That was from people on scene
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Then please tell me how the fatal shot came from the front "at a distance" thru her chin IF she was supposedly not facing Pusser at the time OR her teeth were down into the carpet? Were you there? The shoulder shot still was probably as she was turning from being shot at to begin with, especially if she was falling from the chin shot and Pusser kept firing! Me thinks you are too very quick to judge Pusser as the bad guy, instead of the snake Hathcock that he killed!
gipper1066 2 years ago
LOL where is your research? When you talk about the shoulder shot you have to use the word "probably:...don't you know the answer...I do. Pusser himself described the shoulder shot as his first shot, the torso shot as the second. The shot to her jaw was the third. the trajectory indicates that that Pusser fired from below her jaw at an upward angle. (She was on the floor for the third and final shot). Pusser was just like most of the state liners...he was bad. It was all about greed.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
You're so full of it... you certainly wasn't there - no one was! You think with your BIAS that you know, but you don't know jack because you, me nor anyone else WASN'T THERE in the room to begin with! My "probably" is just as good as anything you offer and that is the fact! And, as I stated before (And you could never embrace), it was pure good that he took her down simply because of what an evil bitch she was to start with! Pusser certainly wasn't any Saint, but the people he fought were EVIL!
gipper1066 2 years ago
My Bias...lol. You won't even answer questions. I'll ask again.., why four hit men in one car with one gun? Why was Pusser not asked to submit to a polygraph examination? Why was there no autopsy on Pauline? How did blood get on the hood of the car since Pusser stated that neither he nor Pauline exited the vehicle? Why were the shell casings found in one spot rather than scatted down the roadway? Hathcock was dead and White was in prison, so who was behind the ambush? Please answer!
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
White was in prison at the time, yes, but it was widely thought that he masterminded the ambush to start with! White was on the FBIs list of the most dangerous criminals in the US and was gunned down in the El-Ray Motel in 1969! Since I wasn't present at the ambush (nor were you!) I cannot answer the one gun theory - ask Pusser. Why Pusser wasn't asked to submit to a Polygraph or why wasn't there an autopsy? Again, LACK OF EVIDENCE showed that Pusser was never a suspect in his wife's death!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Also, there WAS a shot and hole thru the windshield as seen in the photos of the Fury. This hole was located on the passenger side and just might correspond with any shots that hit Pauline's head and possibly brought any blood through that very hole! You try to influence the reader in your group's photo by saying "Note the blood on the fender and even on the roof of the car, but how little there is on the outside of the door. Whys is there so little blood on the door and so much on the hood?"
gipper1066 2 years ago
Your quote was "Note the blood on the fender and even on the roof of the car, but how little there is on the outside of the door. Whys is there so little blood on the door and so much on the hood?" The answer was that she was shot inside the vehicle and there WAS a great amount blood on the INSIDE of the door instead! This is shown in the very next picture in your group! This could have been part of the same blood that passed through the bullet hole onto the hood!
gipper1066 2 years ago
LOL..., you amaze me. There was a great amount of brain matter on the inside of the vehicle especially on the headliner, but not as much blood as one would expect to find. Why is that? How do you address Lavon Plunk's charge that Pusser placed Pauline on the inside of the car after he carried her to it? Blood is on the inside door panel. ROFLAO...that much blood went through a single bullet hole and onto the hood of a speeding vehicle? HAHaHa, chuckle, chuckle, give me a break today!
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
You're the amazing one... you try to portray it as though the hood of the Fury was COVERED in blood --- it WASN"T! The spots on the hood are all of the PASSENGER side, which corresponds with the bullet hole. Don't you think this alsos explaind as to why the FBI, TBI and any other law enforcement agency didn't go after Pusser, polygraph him or to do an autopsy on his wife? There is simply too many players there to overlook the possibility that Pusser killed her! And it hasn't changed since!
gipper1066 2 years ago
PLEASE call me or email me your phone number so I can call you.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Widely thought??? White was on the TEXAS list of 10 most wanted not on the FBI list. Thats the difference between you and I.., I am a trained investigator. No, I wasn't at the ambush but I can tell you that the evidence does not support Pusser's version of what happened. Your BIAS to Pusser will not even allow you to look at him as a suspect. Are you a hero worshipper? Why is it so difficult for you to simply look at the questions and search for logical answers?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Listen Jack, whether you're a "trained investigator" is up for question in my mind... it doesn't matter to me or make you any better than anyone else on this forum! I don't think Pusser was a Saint by any means. He may have dealt with the devil at times, but doing so to try and keep a little order with the Rattlesnake Group that was the State Line Mob and the Dixie Mafia! Please DO NOT tell me that you prefer that EVIL group over anything Pusser might have done! THAT would be amazing!
gipper1066 2 years ago
lol...Pusser WAS one of the rattlesnakes. Not me, I want to work for a good one.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
This is EXACTLY why I wouldn't dream of giving the likes of you my phone number... you are truly way too freakin' eager to show Pusser as a bad guy versus the freakin' Mafia! OMG, do you even realize how you look? It's amazing how most of McNairy County (I didn't say all) view Pusser as a hero, not a criminal. And that doesn't mean just your small sample of people (including Mobsters or Moonshiners) that portray Pusser differently. His methods were cruel, but look at who he was dealing with!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Do you have a problem with the truth? Both Pusser and the state liners were bad..., whats your point, that I won't lie for Pusser?Adamsville is about the only place in McNairy county that still supports Pusser. Tell me, how much money do you think Pusser should have been allowed to take for his personal use from those moonshiners and bootleggers? How much did he deserve to keep? How much should he have been allowed to keep from the Club Operators? If he was honest why should he get any?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
BTW..., you don't want to talk about this because you know you don't have any answers. Like most people in the hot seat rather than answer a question, you try to distract people by trying to ask questions. Heres another one for you that you haven't answered. Don't you think it a little strange that ALL of Pusser's gunshot wounnd were to the left side of this body. all superficial except for one and there were never any witnesses to the shootings? (As I said Pusser was right handed)
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
How about his stab wounds gipper, never very serious and the only witness to any of the stabbings , County Coroner Ward Moore, said that the stabbing that Pusser claimed never happened. Keep in mind that Moore was and still is a good friend of Henry Peeler, so why would Moore lie?
Why were none of the assailants ever caught? Come on you got to have something besides rhetoric..., how about a real answer this time.
.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Hey Gipper, you seem to think that all of the state liners were bad. Exactly what is a "State liner"? I think we would agree that Louise and Towhead were state liners, but what about W.O. Hathcock? He operated a club at the state line but what bad have you heard about him? Pusser and two friends robbed and beat him and he filed a police report and was hospitalized for two weeks. Why didn't Pusser file a report when he claimed he was robbed and beaten? What else do you know about W,O,?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Mike, W.O. Hathcock certainly shares no distinction with the rest of the State Line Mob or the Dixie Mafia. But don't try an portray most of either group as being good! History has already spoke VOLUMES on them and has judged them correctly. Having relatives from the areas of both Kentucky and Tennessee, I have heard numerous horror stories of those groups already and how they had the prostitution, gambling and bootleg liquor galore and how you took your life in your own hands by going there!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Paul Moore had Moores Place near the state line. Was he evil? Tell me all about him. What about R.C. Matlcok..., one of Pusser's deputies..he operated a joint near the state line while he was a deputy. Was he evil? Tell us what you know here. PLEASE unleash you vast knowledge regarding the state line.
W.R. Morris made W.O. Hathcock look like a very evil man, yet in my research I can't find much to back much of what he said about W.O. (I guess thats my agenda talking). .
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Cmon Mikey, I never ever said that every one who operated on the State Line was corrupt, just a distinct faction of them instead. And as I said before (just like other statements you chose to ignore), I said that W.O. Hathcock shared no affiliation in the MOB or the Dixie Mafia. Like yourself, I don't see him as being of major importance in criminal activities of any group. Remember, you had me saying W.O. Hathcock was evil before and I had to point out to you that I never said a word of him!
gipper1066 2 years ago
Come on gippy, now your backing up...your statements initially cast all state liners in the same light. It took you a bit to mention that W.O. shared no affiliation with the mob. What about the others I mentioned? Paul Moore, Matlock etc? My point is the real trouble was limited to a few spots, thge Shamrock and White Iris being the main two. So why did Pusser take payoffs from them and others. Katherine Adkins and Betty Sparks liked Buford even though they paid him. Did that make it right
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Sparks and Adkins, like many others saw payoffs as a cost of doing business. Pusser was making a lot of money with payoffs..,did you really think he wanted to be sheriff to clean this mess up? Alcorn County Sheriff Cleaton Wilbanks on the other hand took his oath seriously. Now there was a real hero. He couldn't be bought. Now, thats my kind of sheriff. One who enforces the law and accepts a pay check from only one employer...the county he serves.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
Sparks and Adkins, doing business... hmmm probably as Club Owners doing illegal business in the first place no doubt? And you are seriously just going to take their word over someone who has been dead for over 34 years and cannot defend himself against your accusations and BIAS today? All I can say to that is "wow Mike". I have every confidence that Willbanks was a good Sheriff and I for one thank him here for his service to the citizens of Alcorn County... he certainly deserves it, I'm sure!
gipper1066 2 years ago
lol... you are so ,misinformed. Don't you have anything better?
mikeelam2010 2 years ago

Actionlovers 3 years ago
Actionlovers, if you are referring to me as a Buford "Pusser Hater" you are wrong. Being a former law enforcement officer from Buford's era I was interested in his career and what things were really like as compared to the movie. I have copies of the ambush photos, photos of Buford's wounds,a copy of the autopsy report of the woman that Buford shot in the back (twice), and I have been to McNairy County to interview people who were part of the story. Tell me sir, what have you got?
mikeelam2010 3 years ago
I'm sure Dwana Pusser Garrison would be interested in the slander you're spreading. The mans been dead for over thirty years. Leave it alone.
hamtrak 3 years ago 2
Do you believe that she hasn't heard this before? She promotes the legend of her dad carrying a "big stick" when in reality he didn't. She was only six years old when her mother died and most of the stuff that Buford said happened to was when she was even younger.
Have you actually tried looking at the evidence or are you such a hero worshipper that you can't be objective? Pauline Pusser's murder is still an open case...why not look into it?
mikeelam2010 3 years ago
Not a hero worshipper, just tired of hearing garbage about a thirty + year old case.
hamtrak 3 years ago
I have worked hard to show the facts. What makes you think its garbage? The murder of Pauline Pusser is actually a 41 year old cold case. Ask yourself this..., If Buford named the assassins, why did no one including Buford Pusser ever arrest any of them? Why would the FBI and TBI ignore the information he gave them? Why is there so much blood on the hood of his Fury if neither he nor Pauline got out of the car? Why is their so little blood on the outside of the passenger door?
mikeelam2010 3 years ago
why in gods name would you be arguing about evidence from more than 40 years ago... im not going to say any of the films were 100% correct because they are movies..but seriously, your telling people to look at evidence from a time that was horribly corrupted, when the law was easy as hell to pay off,and not to mention were quite corrupted themselfs, drugs, murder, money laundering ...you name it,they prob did it.
SONofAnamVet 3 years ago
Don't you care that a person who Hollywood has celebrated as a hero may have been corrupt and possibly guilty of murder? What does it matter to you if someone looks for proof that he was corrupt as so many of his peers charge? For many who claim they were wronged by Pusser, it gives them some closure to know that the truth is finally coming out. It may have been 40 years but a lot of those who were there and lived it have expressed thier appreciate for the story being more accurately retold.
mikeelam2010 3 years ago
He never used a stick he like to pistol whip people.
NWAfan 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
The stick was nothing more than a Hollywood prop. What Pusser like to do was fight anyone that he knew he could whip.
mikeelam2010 2 years ago
wikipedia has contributors who often post incorrect information.
Hmmm???
mikeelam2010 3 years ago

TikkiEXX 3 years ago
It wasn't about "bending the rules", it was about breaking them for his own gain. It didn't seem to be about helping people so much getting a cut of the action for himself. Very little of what you see in the movies comes close to what really happened according to those that were there. He didn't have to been the rules. Sheriff Wilbanks in neighboring Alcorn County Mississippi had the other side of the state line and he enforced the law without "bending the rules". Pusser made a choice.
