Okay, so reduction is good. But inevitably, at some point we're going to buy plastic. When that happens, it's still better to recycle it than to let it go to a landfill, right?
That's cool about the peanut butter place. I wish we had a place like that around here.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! You're so cool for knowing your stuff and for sharing it with people. :D I'm very impressed with your reusing of jars. w00t! Also, I hope you get a teaching job soon--I think you'll make a fantastic teacher. #EmilyTheArtTeacherIsSeriousBusiness
YAY #PEANUTBUTTERWARS! Hahaha. The tweets and videos are all cracking me up. I love the internet. #TeamSmooth
thank you for this recycling education, thank you. i grew up in new jersey as you know, and recycling is HUGE there. so thank you for educating the world. #TeamHoneyRoastedPeanutButter (Sadly im the only member)
I'd sooo hire you! Can I pay you to just always be with me? :D I love how informed you make me. :) #omnomnom we are so going there when I come to Troy! #TeamSmooth #PeanutButterWars
I have never thought about it this way but now that I have heard you say it I can;t help but wonder why I have never thought about it. Why more people aren't talking about the other two Rs more. Thank you for this video Emily!
I'm in the small percentage of folks enjoying both equally. Can't we all just get along?
I work for Habitat for Humanity and our ReStore is the place where we exist to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Keeping furniture, appliances and building materials out of the landfill and making them available to the public at thrift store prices is the ultimate win-win. And every dollar we make goes to putting families in new homes. Not only do we help the environment, but we help people who need to live in it.
@pcgamerguy1234 you are thinking recycle and buy new versus just buy new. I'm saying recycle or don't buy new or buy less packaging. I'm not saying don't recycle, I'm saying there are other steps that are more beneficial. Don't buy things with lots of energy consuming plastic. Companies care about consumer trends.
@crimsong19 I used to reuse a lot of plastic bottles and then they said all of those things about toxins leeching or something, so I just use this canteen. Unfortunately, using a metal water bottle makes the world suspicious.
Smooth = LAME! And that peanut butter looked more like apple butter!
That's really cool how you can go there and use your own jar to get peanutbutter (and I'm sure other things) I don't think we have a place like that near here..
I try to buy things in glass containers. I also buy things from thrift stores as much as possible. I donate items when I am done with them if they are useful. I do what I can to reduce my footprint. Even going to the extent of mailing Number 5 containers to a company that makes razors out of them.
What a cool grocery store you have. And good thoughts throughout. Unfortunately, the end of the video (all the parts with the peanut butter) has made me really nauseous. That's how gross smooth peanut butter is. #teamcrunchy
That's a really interesting perspective. I wish I could do something to help reduce, but since I'm kind of home-ridden for the summer (not being able to drive, and thus not really having purchasing power) the best I can do is reuse and recycle. Which I'm totally okay with for the present.
Hearing you talk about all this kind of stuff really interests me.
I'll have to come back and check out all the links you mention when I am not trying to squeeze all my youtube watching into the time before I have to go to work. haha.
...Do they have Crunchy at the select your own Peanut Butter Store? If not then I feel like you don't CHOOSE Smooth, but rather you are forced into it... #TeamCrunchy
@JoCatofCatLand It probably has a ton to do with marketing. Reducing and reusing don't give corporations and money. Also, I can't help but think of A Brave New World. "The more stitches, the less riches"
I really enjoy watching your videos because they do encourage me to make things. I also really enjoyed seeing you go to a store and fill your own jar up with your own peanut butter. We have a store similar to that near my house, but I am uncertain if you can reuse jars. Sadly, my family purchases name-brand peanut butter, but that doesn't mean that I have to do the same when I move out. Gladly, I am #TeamSmooth.
I sometimes buy brands too, I mean, that jar I'm reusing was a smucker's (they sell all-natural, just-peanuts butter, and it's fairly inexpensive). You should ask at that store, because the Co-op in Albany doesn't *advertise* their reusable container program (policy? whatever). You wouldn't know about it unless you saw others doing it.
@ChateauOfADoubt well i'm sorry for my stupidness. Sometimes i just feel the need to comment randomly. i'm for reycling. I thought it would be nice to let you know i'm helping the enviroment.

And I just can't take sides in the peanut butter wars. I'm a [peanut butter] lover, not a fighter.

but crunchy with strawberry jelly/jam. just for that.

I mean, recycling isn't EVERYTHING. I'm with you there.
But a good thing to do over the summer is have a reusable water bottle ... or just reuse a small bottle of water (i.e. Poland Springs, etc.)
And that bread looks QUITE good!
