I absolutely ADORE this song! If I have to choose just one favourite from 69 Love Songs, this is the one. I mean, take a look at the rhyming - it doesn't get more clever than this. And of course the melody is lovely as well. Genius!
Either Morrissey's voice hits you or it doesn't. I personally love it. He's my God (alongside Stephin of course... and Tom Waits, Steven Fry, PJ Harvey and Brian Eno)
man, i love this guys style! he's dreary, and subtely funny. But not trying to hard. He's funny and dark nd poignant at the same time. Is that a ukulele?
Sorry, no. I was limited to 16 minutes of recording time, so I was picking my moments...the Stephin Merritt performance was a priority. Someone else uploaded "Dracula's Daughter" though.

he's not Lemony Snicket. He can't be Lemony Snicket. How could he, of all ppl, create such a complex story, V.F.D., and all that up?

is that a compliment or an insult?
I'd have to say he is and is not lemony.
He's his editor! XD

Lol, he's not really his editor. He's the author. He writes under the pen name Lemony Snicket.

-.-; I know. I love him.

This song is not part of the Lemony Snicket songs. It is from his own album, 69 Love Songs.

The melody here is a dead ringer for a song I heard in a Scottish pub several years.

Such a clever, beautiful song. It's in such a different league from the Top 40 stuff passing as music nowadays.

This is great. I've been listening over and over.

God I love this song.
The lyrics are amusing until that last, unexpected "and I said wanna bet" line, which suddenly gives the song this amazing bittersweet sadness.

I love this song. The melody reminds me of the music from "Badlands" by Terrence Malick.
