To All:

I have noticed some drummers actually DOUBLE tap their snare (on the 2nd and 3rd note of each triplet rather than only on the 2nd note) during the shuffle. For a good example see MVKbzLW6HQ0 video and go to :53 into the solo and watch his left hand closely-it sounds awesome. BTW you have to set the viewing down to 240p (from the default 360p) to hear this for some strange reason.  (Curious what you think!)

Yeah he doesn't know and apparently you don't either, so let me break it down for you: A shuffle can either be counted in 12/8 or 4/4 time. Going with the pulse that Purdie calls the quarter note, he's dealing with 4/4 time. Given that, what he calls 'eighth notes' are actually triplets. What he calls "sixteenths" and really sextuplets. What he calls "dotted" are again triplets, and his "triplets" are sextuplets.

Basically this is all math and you can groove without it... case and point Purdie

But if you are serious about understanding this for the purpose of learning to read music (a great skill to have in the industry) then I suggest you disregard anything Purdie trys to "Splain" to you and just learn from what he actually plays
