No honey, church and state ARE separate. There's no control or "tyranny" we want to impose on the church. What it will mean is that when "A church" fails to say no to love, we will go to a different church that is accepting and truly following the ways of Christ or whatever God you worship. We're fighting for equality, not control. And the thing about the government in the 19th century? What "church" are you talking about?
Can one fail to concede how a church must work against the state criminalizing it for its doctrines? Mormon temples hold temple marriages, and when prop 8 loses, the lawsuits begin, forcing the church to marry "gay" couples against their doctrines.
