3kms is really nothing for fishing.. and you can't just decide to change a country's sovereignty because they have internal problems, and i don't think everyone in somalia is a pirate, who would give you the right to do that anyway..
I have an easy way to solve problems like this. You restrict Somali waters to about... 3kms off of their coast line. that is more than enough space for the fishermen to work and live. Should a ship attempt to go through this blockade, you give them three warnings. First, tell them to turn back, tell them again, then, fire a few warning shots across their bow. If they ignore those warning, board 'em. If they fight, sink 'em. Trade will take place through other nearby countries.
#1: Radar, its is this wonderful little invention that allows us to see things far away. Pirate ships are not stealth and easy to see
#2: Somalia can trade through other countries. If it is legitimate, they won't have a problem. If the trade is not legitimate, then it won't stabilize their country
#3: No matter how much you insult me, you will not be able to increase the size of your dick. Nice try though.
And are you going to station craft all along the coastline to intercept them once youve seen them on your lovely radar
you still need a stable country to trade dinkmunch, define legitimate trade? legitimate is in the eyes of the strong, your president the biggest arms dealer in the world eh?
No kidding, the guy is trying to be some civil naval expert but can't deceifer nationality from ethnicity. Its obvious his age hence his reference to sexual organs in a discussion of this sort.
This shit was over months ago, so in fact I did shut up, asshole. To busy degrading ppl to check the fuckin date, assholes like you I love seeing kharma come back to kick your fucking ass. It hits you pricks so fast you can't suck it up. Good luck. Peace.
Go fuck your mother any way you can, faggot fucker. Shut up, get a fucking life you fucking loser. Is that what you do, insult ppl to get your cock off fuck balls. go clean your balls dirt bag. If you could only see me fuck head, I aint so little, I'd crush your fuckin stupid skull in, suck it up ass hole.
it seems that no matter how intelligent I attempt to make our conversation, you take the opposite route. I would love to continue debating with you, but this has grown tedious. While some of your points do deserve merit, this has become a simple exercise of nay-saying, where neither person may pose points that will make it past the others conversational and intellectual barrier. And so, i bid you good day sir, and can only hope that you don;t speak to your mother the way you speak to strangers
pirate ships camouflage themselves in with fisherman, have you seen one of those radar screens there hundreds and hundreds of fishing boats out there.
I really don't understand pirates. Crimes in international waters = international coalition chasing your butt wanting revenge. Who the hell wants every industrialized nation's navy after their head?! Pirates are just plain dumb.
These are people from a country that has barely evolved in 1000 years....They see that their children are starving and their friends have AIDS, yet they still continue to procreate like its going out of style.... They aren't the smartest bunch :-D
IM NOT TRYING TO ADVERTISE BUT IM SCARED OF WHAT IT SEES in 1908 a lady named sally rusa was in the woods looking for a dog until a ghost came and killed her so if ur reading this u will find a bloody body in your closet hanging there haunting you and will kill you and ur family and if u want to stop this just sends this to 6 videos in 30 mins or this will happen good luck!! and i only did this because it freaked me out o.o
I regularly sail through Malacca Straits while at work. We sailors couldn't be happier to be rid of pirates, but Pirates are as old as the age of sail itself. Until someone figures a way to fix the worlds problems, pirates are just a part of the job and a well known risk to those of us who work in these areas. Just one of many life threatening risks we face in our career at sea.
"" everyone knows you are more likely to be shot yourself""
That is some pretty unique logic your sporting there. I guess all those folks that died are better off, at least they did not get shot defending themselves.
#1 most nations have placed an outright ban on arming merchant vessels in order to avoid creating the "Wild Wild West At Sea."
Use of guns by crew members has shown to easily escalate both the violence of these attacks and the harshness of pirate reprisals.
That is why we dont carry guns.
#2 Defending yourself doesnt have to mean waiting until the last minute, there are plenty of measures a ship can take to repell pirate attacks before they happen.
I hope every government should support this. Imagine if you can just call for air strike whenever you see a pirate. There should be a way to confirm that they are pirates through radio communication or phone. If they refuse, the next thing is "Kaboom." There are so many pirates today because they are safe. Destroy them more often, and they won't do it again
@panterafist Well your answers show that you are having trouble maintaining a grip on reality. Taxpayers are broke and governments need to spend money on schools, roads, healthcare, and so on... Sorry, no money to play war off in fucking Somolia. Do you really not understand these concepts?
@chisholm1221 We could rid the world of its problems or we could rid the world of blacks. Either one would solve the piracy problem and ridding the world of blacks would be a lot easier. Coincidentally, it would also fix most of the world's problems.
The recent focus on somalia piracy sheds light on an insane situation. I'm blown away at the hundreds of hijacks a year. There's got to be private security agencies ships can hire capable of dealing with these shmucks.
I will offer my services as anti pirate / repel boarders = USA flagged lux yachts. no garbage detail. will work 24/7 how that for a solution. (hired gun)
They need to carry rocket launchers on these ships to blow the Pirate's shitty ass boats right out of the water. Robert111 you talk a lot of shit and you really are a piece of shit. I'm sure you have a gun, so do us all a favour and blow your brains out. YOU FUCKIN SCUMBAG! FUCK YOU!
You are all a bunch of idiots discussing God as if you know his plan.....get a life... religion was created by man it has ZERO to do with higher spiritual power.
Condoning any violent action against another human being is wrong....you don´t have to be a genius to work that out
i would eat pirates,Ive never been scared of pirates not even jack sparrow or davey jones;~^R u guys filming from a cruise shit? That is so pirates of the carribean
I doubt that you are being serious. However, on the off chance that you are, then you are evil, a monster who's soul is black and who's future is dark.
Whether the intention to kill is there or not, pirates do it anyways. This accident was caused by pirates. Whether the intent to kill was there or not, people died, innocent people. They see other people's lives as a play thing, a thing to be snatched away as they see fit. They operate without laws, morals or any sort of decency.
You're damn straight I'm serious. You are also a fool to think pirates kill whether the intention is there or not. The same could be said about almost anything: Drivers, pilots, crane-operators. When I was pirating, I exercised due care. We took a few smaller boats, but mainly cargo. You don't want to call attention by having a vessel sink or someone get hurt. Look what a mess the piracy profession is around Somalia now! When I worked, it was quite and low-key on the international scene.
Pirates operate without laws, if you mean the laws of other nations. Why should one on the high-seas of nature abide by any fictional laws of stuffed coats somewhere? Pirates have the HIGHEST morals and decency, just not YOUR morals. Why is it that you are so keen to shove your "morals" and "laws" down the throats of those free men pirating the high seas - piracy being such a colorful profession of deep history, culture, and excitement? How dare you, murderer you are (or want to be)!
These Pirates need to be taught a very real lesson. Any ship that engages in pirate activity should be sunk, its crew exterminated.
These evil People attack cruise liners, cargo ship and even military boats. These people usually get away and simply do it again. they are dangerous and should be eradicated with no mercy or recourse. They take lives without thought for anything but money, they themselves should suffer the same fate as those poor sailors.
I did some pirating with a Somalian outfit in the summer of 2007. Made $27,000 that summer. I don't know of any pirates that intend to kill the crew, but if a policy were estabished as you advocate, I'm sure a lot of innocent shipping crew members would wind up dead or taken prisoner to and used a human shields.
What do you mean by 'Fair'. How fair is it that these murderers attack cruise liner and cargo ships. How is it fair that innocent people get killed for greed. How is it fair that people who are simply trying to live, without breaking any law, get thier lives snatched away by those pirates.
Life is the most precious thing to anybody. And so the only way to revenge those who's live have been brutally taken, is to kill the takers.
If you don't agree, fine by me. Why do you support pirates though?
But you did just say you supported pirates, as long as they killed me that is. Are you retracting that?
The other question is, you are oviusly a religious person, as you said that god will judge them. However, don't we, as the human race, have the right to judge those who are a plague on our society? Wether god will judge them or not is up to faith, but i believe that, as a species withy a will to survive, that we deserve a right to judge, however harshly, those who threaten our futures.
and I support self defense, so if u were to go and murder some pirates and they killed you, good riddance.
if they came to rob you and you fought and ended up killing one, in hopes he wouldnt kill you.
god bless you.
if someone is trouble cast them away and don't let them become apart of society, if they continue harm then confining them is the only way ok fine, but to harm, starve, kill, or beat is all unjust, and we will be judged on our actions.
Well, you can have your opinion and i can have mine, that is your perogative.
I really want to avoid turing this into a theological debate, but i am unwilling to trust that there is someone or something up there who will judge them while we, the victims, continue to be hurt.
We are the innocent, and if we are attacked, we deserve Justice, not revenge, justice.
We, as innocents, should not have to worry about defending ourselves, that is our right.
but thy killeth by the sword shall be killed by the sword.
love your brother and forgive him for his sins as your god will forgive you for yours if you are truly grateful and do not require blood for justice rather understanding.
by all means kill the mother fucker pointing a gun at you, but as soon as you go out of your way to cause harm your just as bad.
I agree with you BukuHaze420, let the pirates continue with their glorious endeavors. If they should kill anyone, they may be killed. If someone like Rayle75 should try to kill them, he may have his guts spilled right in front of him. If the crew of some pirated ship gets killed by accident of fire, etc., such was GOD's will for he/she had unrepented sins.
GOD BLESS THE PIRATES for they are all good men and God's creatures. GOD BLESS THEM!
Rayle75, every pirate deserves the rch bounty he may take from others. After all, if an ex-pirate such as myself took a heck of a handsom haul, it was GOD's will that I did so. You can't argue with GOD's will lest you be struck down from above. I followed HIS will and took great bounty pirating.
If a law was passed that pirates were to be hunted down and killed, that would also be gods will. If every pirate on this earth was exterminated like rats, that would be gods will.If one of your victims found and killed you, that would be gods will.
Hide behind god all you want, but he would never justify hurting innocent people. Im not even religious and i am astounded that you have the audacity to assume that he or she stands behind your actions. You disgust me, you dirty murderer and thief.
You sure were talking up a storm about "God" with BukuHaze to be a non-God-fearing man. What "law" would apply to the open seas or the Somalian waters? Pirates make the laws there and you MUST obey them or you could wind up adrift in a little life boat (or worse). When I was out there, I passed some laws and obeyed them carefully.
im gunna laugh when oneday the world decides to stop protecting ur right to live and rob people and fail to notify u about it- n one day u go to board a ship n the whip out a few 50cal guns n just mow u all down in one stroke. karmas a bitch ;)
Well, the problem for you is that I pirated for a single summer a couple of years ago - made $27K. I had a good friend with a contact running a group our of Somalia. Great bunch of guys for the most part. Incidently, there boat has two .50 cals on it and a 40mm canon. If someone popped up with a .50 against them, that would probably be a bad move. I worked with an experienced crew though, real careful and knew what they were doing. I hope they are doing OK with all the new activity there.
@Robert111 You're unbelievable. If you're a Somali pirate, I'm John Paul Jones. This happened in Straits of Malacca, not off Horn of Africa. Contrary 2 what you say, the Somali pirates are more active than ever, taking a record number of ships in 2009, according to the NYTimes, Obama or Nobama. You had ship mounting a 40mm cannon? Most unusual. Impossible to hide from naval patrols. Even so, an armed crew could ambush and call naval help as it takes all day 2 sink big ship with a 40mm .
@hallmobility I never said I am a Solami pirate. I said I did some pirating out of Somalia some time ago. Back in my pirating days, the heat just wasn't on like it is now - there were no naval patrols (at least none that I ever saw or anyone in my group ran into). By the way, we used to only mount the 40mm when needed, it wasn't out there taking the salt air the whole time. Why the heck would anyone try to sink a ship???? Last thing we wanted was to sink a ship.
@tpvalley Theft and murder are always justified by everyone. Why be the only sucker left that doesn't justify it? Also, I wasn't condoning murder or killing of any type.
@tpvalley To tell you the truth in the single summer I did some pirating down there, I physically boarded just four vessels myself. As a whole, the crews never failed to yield or follow orders. Only on one occassion when we were unloading a crew to a dingy did an athletic 30ish year old woman badmouth me as "working with animals" (meaning my Somali team). A solid rifle buttplate to her belly calmed her down. That was the only incident of any type I ever experienced.
Actually...it's not true. Allied forces is hunting them down, killing the ones who wont give up, sinking their ships and such...
I wont spill a tear for those terrorists on the sea. With no respect for the life of others they dont deserve any respect for their lifes. It's their choise only... give up or die.
I know, the heat finally came down on Somalina-based pirating after all these years. There were some great guys out there working their trade, I hope some of the one's I knew are safe. Otherwise, its like you said, death at sea. That is the way it happens like with Blackbeard. I'm sure some of them are laying low or will start operating somewhere else like southeast Asia. I here there is some good pirating organizations out there too, but not so big-scale.
Thats what i was thinking pirates be comming taken there weopons out and be like this is going to be a nice load of cargo for us then boom they get hit and sink LOL
To set the record straight... My father was the captain of the Nagasaki Spirit, his ship was NOT taken by pirates, the Ocean Blessing was and they then hit my father's ship. The body that was found was my father's, and there were two survivors from his ship. The crew of the Ocean Blessing were found dead onboard their ship. Sorry rafelic, we never found out what happened to the rest of my dad's crew and we wonder about them daily...
you dont make fun of people who lost their lives and just think of the familiy they left behind. just hope and pray you wont experience this kind of tragedy in your life. Peace!
Thank you mallysack,I spoke with one of the survivors family member today. All I can say is that...Rest in peace to my brother, your Dad and to the rest of Nagasaki Spirit Crew.
i checked this out again and i apologize for my previous post. the sequence and the ships are almost identical, but this is definetely not the 'moby prince / agip abruzzo' accident... sorry, terribleOne!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This has absolutely nothing to do with pirates nor with the 'nagasaky spirit'... the images show the collision between the ferry 'moby prince' and the tanker 'agip abruzzo' in the night of april 12, 1992, in the harbour of livorno. all the people on the ferry died and the dinamics and responsabilities of the accident newer were determined.
My Brother was there ( one of the crew of Nagasaki spirit)It's sad to remember but it's better to know the truth on what really happened, Thanks again TerribleOne!
sir thank you for posting the video. i have lost a best buddy in this incident.he is one of the missing tanker crew. may they all rest in peace and hopefully this barbarians who are good for nothing pirates be punished.
None of the body of nagasaki spirit crewman was sent home to the Philippines, The owner/company said they were not found. I wonder what happened? Any identity of the body that was found? please..anymore information about the crewman, especially from nagasaki spirit. The story about pirates took the captain for a ransom and set the ship to autocruise control was not told to the poor family member of the nagasaki spirit crews.
@rafelic TK Shipping - the owner of the Nagasaki Spirit, spent a lot of time, money and emotion in trying to find the missing crew. The lifeboat had been cleanly released from the davits, the fire had not gotten to the escape point by the time the lifeboat got away so the assumption was that it escaped the scene. But where it went nobody knows. Searches all over the straits for the men or the lifeboat of any of its contents all proved fruitless.
it happens all the time like how may get published when you are real secret on a gigantic ship with big numbers on the side and also sub marines that the navy lost . ask the filipinos. or better yet contaact some old friends still in and enlighten them . dont drop the ball. we have only one unpirated country so far yo. i was in the -uscg-
This is a damn shame. Great that the pirates died, they deserve anything that comes to them. They've caused so much damage. It's a shame the innocent workers of the other ship had to pay the price for selfish people.
Pirates had boarded the Nagasaki Spirit, removed its captain from command, set the ship on autopilot and left with the ship's master for a ransom. The ship was left going at full speed with no one at the wheel. The collision and resulting fire took the lives of all the sailors of Ocean Blessing; from Nagasaki Spirit there were only 2 survivors. The fire on the Nagasaki Spirit lasted for six days; the fire aboard the Ocean Blessing burned for six weeks
At about 23.20 hours on 19 September 1992 Nagasaki Spirit collided with the container ship Ocean Blessing. The collision occurred in the northern part of the Malacca Straits. At the time of the collision Nagasaki Spirit was part laden with a cargo of 40,154 tonnes of Khafji crude oil.About 12,000 tonnes of Nagasaki Spirit's cargo were released into the sea and caught fire. Both ships were engulfed by the fire. Only two members of the crew of Nagasaki Spirit survived the fire.
ok, this was the collision of the ocean blessing and the nagasaki spirit. it was in the straits of malacca on sept 20, 1992. none of the 45 member crew were found alive by us. 2 people were rescued earlier by another ship, and we pulled 1 body out.
The only thing I'll say about this is that you say the captain was taken for ransom, but the captain was the one that you pulled from the water... he was my father so I'm pretty sure about his identity. Thank you to you and your crew for returning him to my family.
This was a case of piracy 42 men died in the collision because the pirates couldn't control the ship, the film is 6 hours after the accident. The oil tanker burned for days.

allen41able 6 months ago
I was in charge of the salvage of the Ocean Blessing and also assisted in the salvage of the Nagasaki Spirit.
I personally discovered all the bodies on the Ocean Blessing and assisted in their recovery by the Indonesian authorities.
There was absolutely no evidence that pirates had any involvement in this collision.

so why do u think that innocent civilians should suffer for the sins of people who just belonged to the same country over 100 years ago?
Using the same logic victims governments would just take the country the pirates came from by force and remove assets to the value lost.
Also africa was destroyed by the blacks just as much as the whites, the without black slave traders the trade couldnt have flourished.

That is some pretty unique logic your sporting there. I guess all those folks that died are better off, at least they did not get shot defending themselves.
brett30030 2 years ago
#1 most nations have placed an outright ban on arming merchant vessels in order to avoid creating the "Wild Wild West At Sea."
Use of guns by crew members has shown to easily escalate both the violence of these attacks and the harshness of pirate reprisals.
That is why we dont carry guns.
#2 Defending yourself doesnt have to mean waiting until the last minute, there are plenty of measures a ship can take to repell pirate attacks before they happen.

@chisholm1221
solution: air strike
I hope every government should support this. Imagine if you can just call for air strike whenever you see a pirate. There should be a way to confirm that they are pirates through radio communication or phone. If they refuse, the next thing is "Kaboom." There are so many pirates today because they are safe. Destroy them more often, and they won't do it again
panterafist 1 year ago
@panterafist Yes, and who's going to be doing the airstrikes and who's going to pay for it? Step into reality.

answer:
1) government
2) tax payer

@panterafist Well your answers show that you are having trouble maintaining a grip on reality. Taxpayers are broke and governments need to spend money on schools, roads, healthcare, and so on... Sorry, no money to play war off in fucking Somolia. Do you really not understand these concepts?
Robert111 1 year ago
@chisholm1221 We could rid the world of its problems or we could rid the world of blacks. Either one would solve the piracy problem and ridding the world of blacks would be a lot easier. Coincidentally, it would also fix most of the world's problems.

Crush them all.
Rayle75 3 years ago
You're damn straight I'm serious. You are also a fool to think pirates kill whether the intention is there or not. The same could be said about almost anything: Drivers, pilots, crane-operators. When I was pirating, I exercised due care. We took a few smaller boats, but mainly cargo. You don't want to call attention by having a vessel sink or someone get hurt. Look what a mess the piracy profession is around Somalia now! When I worked, it was quite and low-key on the international scene.
Robert111 2 years ago
Pirates operate without laws, if you mean the laws of other nations. Why should one on the high-seas of nature abide by any fictional laws of stuffed coats somewhere? Pirates have the HIGHEST morals and decency, just not YOUR morals. Why is it that you are so keen to shove your "morals" and "laws" down the throats of those free men pirating the high seas - piracy being such a colorful profession of deep history, culture, and excitement? How dare you, murderer you are (or want to be)!
Robert111 2 years ago
Firstly, there is no honour and never will be, in taking things that are not yours.
Secondly: Those who kill deserve to be killed
Thirdly: Those who do not kill, you are correct, are mere criminals who have made a choice.
Fourthly: I do not see any culture in attacking innocent people, or people weaker than yourself.
Fifthly, and most importantly: You can't murder a murderer. All you can do to them is exercise justice. The level of justice, that is up to society.
Rayle75 2 years ago
These Pirates need to be taught a very real lesson. Any ship that engages in pirate activity should be sunk, its crew exterminated.
These evil People attack cruise liners, cargo ship and even military boats. These people usually get away and simply do it again. they are dangerous and should be eradicated with no mercy or recourse. They take lives without thought for anything but money, they themselves should suffer the same fate as those poor sailors.
Rayle75 3 years ago
I did some pirating with a Somalian outfit in the summer of 2007. Made $27,000 that summer. I don't know of any pirates that intend to kill the crew, but if a policy were estabished as you advocate, I'm sure a lot of innocent shipping crew members would wind up dead or taken prisoner to and used a human shields.

you support murder, I support the people you want murdered to murder you.
that's only fair.
BukuHaze420 3 years ago
What do you mean by 'Fair'. How fair is it that these murderers attack cruise liner and cargo ships. How is it fair that innocent people get killed for greed. How is it fair that people who are simply trying to live, without breaking any law, get thier lives snatched away by those pirates.
Life is the most precious thing to anybody. And so the only way to revenge those who's live have been brutally taken, is to kill the takers.
If you don't agree, fine by me. Why do you support pirates though?
Rayle75 2 years ago
I never said I supported pirates and my point was I don't support murder either, and neither should you.
god will judge them when there time comes, thats not your place.
BukuHaze420 2 years ago
But you did just say you supported pirates, as long as they killed me that is. Are you retracting that?
The other question is, you are oviusly a religious person, as you said that god will judge them. However, don't we, as the human race, have the right to judge those who are a plague on our society? Wether god will judge them or not is up to faith, but i believe that, as a species withy a will to survive, that we deserve a right to judge, however harshly, those who threaten our futures.
Rayle75 2 years ago
I believe that attitude is wrong, and is what is wrong with society all together.
what right do we have to sentence a murderer to death just to have god judge him again, someone got confused along the way.
whoever pulls the trigger, presses the gas button, or lets go of the rope to the guillotine IS A MURDERER. and god will punish them.
BukuHaze420 2 years ago
and I support self defense, so if u were to go and murder some pirates and they killed you, good riddance.
if they came to rob you and you fought and ended up killing one, in hopes he wouldnt kill you.
god bless you.
if someone is trouble cast them away and don't let them become apart of society, if they continue harm then confining them is the only way ok fine, but to harm, starve, kill, or beat is all unjust, and we will be judged on our actions.
BukuHaze420 2 years ago
Well, you can have your opinion and i can have mine, that is your perogative.
I really want to avoid turing this into a theological debate, but i am unwilling to trust that there is someone or something up there who will judge them while we, the victims, continue to be hurt.
We are the innocent, and if we are attacked, we deserve Justice, not revenge, justice.
We, as innocents, should not have to worry about defending ourselves, that is our right.
If attacked, we should attack back.
Rayle75 2 years ago
yeah thats pretty much what I said.
but thy killeth by the sword shall be killed by the sword.
love your brother and forgive him for his sins as your god will forgive you for yours if you are truly grateful and do not require blood for justice rather understanding.
by all means kill the mother fucker pointing a gun at you, but as soon as you go out of your way to cause harm your just as bad.
again I agree to each their own.
bless.
BukuHaze420 2 years ago
I agree with you BukuHaze420, let the pirates continue with their glorious endeavors. If they should kill anyone, they may be killed. If someone like Rayle75 should try to kill them, he may have his guts spilled right in front of him. If the crew of some pirated ship gets killed by accident of fire, etc., such was GOD's will for he/she had unrepented sins.
GOD BLESS THE PIRATES for they are all good men and God's creatures. GOD BLESS THEM!
Robert111 2 years ago
Rayle75, every pirate deserves the rch bounty he may take from others. After all, if an ex-pirate such as myself took a heck of a handsom haul, it was GOD's will that I did so. You can't argue with GOD's will lest you be struck down from above. I followed HIS will and took great bounty pirating.
Robert111 2 years ago
If a law was passed that pirates were to be hunted down and killed, that would also be gods will. If every pirate on this earth was exterminated like rats, that would be gods will.If one of your victims found and killed you, that would be gods will.
Hide behind god all you want, but he would never justify hurting innocent people. Im not even religious and i am astounded that you have the audacity to assume that he or she stands behind your actions. You disgust me, you dirty murderer and thief.
Rayle75 2 years ago
You sure were talking up a storm about "God" with BukuHaze to be a non-God-fearing man. What "law" would apply to the open seas or the Somalian waters? Pirates make the laws there and you MUST obey them or you could wind up adrift in a little life boat (or worse). When I was out there, I passed some laws and obeyed them carefully.
Robert111 2 years ago

lejink 2 years ago
Well, the problem for you is that I pirated for a single summer a couple of years ago - made $27K. I had a good friend with a contact running a group our of Somalia. Great bunch of guys for the most part. Incidently, there boat has two .50 cals on it and a 40mm canon. If someone popped up with a .50 against them, that would probably be a bad move. I worked with an experienced crew though, real careful and knew what they were doing. I hope they are doing OK with all the new activity there.
Robert111 2 years ago
one defensive position with 1 .50 cal would in most cases be enough to desway 5 .50 cals and a few cannons lol,
Burnz2much 2 years ago
@Robert111 You're unbelievable. If you're a Somali pirate, I'm John Paul Jones. This happened in Straits of Malacca, not off Horn of Africa. Contrary 2 what you say, the Somali pirates are more active than ever, taking a record number of ships in 2009, according to the NYTimes, Obama or Nobama. You had ship mounting a 40mm cannon? Most unusual. Impossible to hide from naval patrols. Even so, an armed crew could ambush and call naval help as it takes all day 2 sink big ship with a 40mm .
hallmobility 1 year ago
@hallmobility I never said I am a Solami pirate. I said I did some pirating out of Somalia some time ago. Back in my pirating days, the heat just wasn't on like it is now - there were no naval patrols (at least none that I ever saw or anyone in my group ran into). By the way, we used to only mount the 40mm when needed, it wasn't out there taking the salt air the whole time. Why the heck would anyone try to sink a ship???? Last thing we wanted was to sink a ship.

tpvalley 1 year ago
@tpvalley To tell you the truth in the single summer I did some pirating down there, I physically boarded just four vessels myself. As a whole, the crews never failed to yield or follow orders. Only on one occassion when we were unloading a crew to a dingy did an athletic 30ish year old woman badmouth me as "working with animals" (meaning my Somali team). A solid rifle buttplate to her belly calmed her down. That was the only incident of any type I ever experienced.

None of the body of nagasaki spirit crewman was sent home to the Philippines, The owner/company said they were not found. I wonder what happened? Any identity of the body that was found? please..anymore information about the crewman, especially from nagasaki spirit. The story about pirates took the captain for a ransom and set the ship to autocruise control was not told to the poor family member of the nagasaki spirit crews.
rafelic 3 years ago
@rafelic TK Shipping - the owner of the Nagasaki Spirit, spent a lot of time, money and emotion in trying to find the missing crew. The lifeboat had been cleanly released from the davits, the fire had not gotten to the escape point by the time the lifeboat got away so the assumption was that it escaped the scene. But where it went nobody knows. Searches all over the straits for the men or the lifeboat of any of its contents all proved fruitless.

The fire on the Nagasaki Spirit lasted for six days; the fire aboard the Ocean Blessing burned for six weeks
terrible0ne 3 years ago
At about 23.20 hours on 19 September 1992 Nagasaki Spirit collided with the container ship Ocean Blessing. The collision occurred in the northern part of the Malacca Straits. At the time of the collision Nagasaki Spirit was part laden with a cargo of 40,154 tonnes of Khafji crude oil.About 12,000 tonnes of Nagasaki Spirit's cargo were released into the sea and caught fire. Both ships were engulfed by the fire. Only two members of the crew of Nagasaki Spirit survived the fire.
terrible0ne 3 years ago
ok, this was the collision of the ocean blessing and the nagasaki spirit. it was in the straits of malacca on sept 20, 1992. none of the 45 member crew were found alive by us. 2 people were rescued earlier by another ship, and we pulled 1 body out.
terrible0ne 3 years ago
The only thing I'll say about this is that you say the captain was taken for ransom, but the captain was the one that you pulled from the water... he was my father so I'm pretty sure about his identity. Thank you to you and your crew for returning him to my family.

This was a case of piracy 42 men died in the collision because the pirates couldn't control the ship, the film is 6 hours after the accident. The oil tanker burned for days.
