I don't know that Lesley's producers were trying to be clever in their choices of songs for Lesley, but I do know that Lesley gave a lot of girls maybe their first course in independence. Love is love, and a cheat is a cheat no matter the gender- so while the songs may not have been aimed at giving a secret wink, I do believe that they are fantastic if only because maybe those songs allowed teen age girls to grow into women who could be strong...
I'm glad Lesley Gore was finally able to come out being Gay. It is a shame that Lesbian and Gay artists felt forced to sing heterosexual love songs in order to have hits in the 1960's. I think many of us who love Lesley always knew the truth and songs like "Sometimes I Wish I Were A Boy" provided more than enough hints.
@PatrickMcBride65 Lulu was fantastic in that movie! I'll have to go back and watch it again and check out that part. Thanks for commenting too- Lesley had a unique way with a song; she knew how to get the most milage out of a lyric. Lesley always got down to business when she sang- very direct and to the point and the result is as you said: She Rocks!!
