didn't he used to be a hairdresser, his early pieces were made from hair colour samples, very nice colours. he is maturing into an interesting artist. i thought his sculptures were a nice new direction. thank you , mr. kalm, your choices are a gift to me, thanks.
spec-f'ing-tacular!!!!!!!! these are insanely gorgeous. the designs are ominous and delicate. this artist has an intimate relationship with his medium.
If you read his bio, (available at the Sikkima Jenkins web site) you'll see this isn't too far off the mark, specifically South LA. ( Stream of consciousness and silver leaf not withstanding.)
come on... there are all kinds of ghetto's in america. white, black, hispanic, asian, and multiple european ghettos. lots of us grow up in these enviroments and lots of us work hard to rise above. political correctness is not always useful. EAT THE RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you read the last Whitney Bi-catalog it explains how he obsessively picked up all kinds of stuff from the LA streets as a sort of documentation through the trash he finds.
there is nothing naive about this work. naive artists suck and can't help it. thus we pity/cherish the artists effort. these are very complex intesive works. this work is extremely advanced.
the important thing is mr. bradfords work, his appearance on the PBS show Art of the 21st Cen.(you can find it on youtube) is really revealing about his character, he's a unique and interesting artist no matter were he comes from.:)
I very much would like to see this in person. Puckered substrate meets grinder and belt sander, right? The gridded sections were cut into the work? Stunning work. Thanks.
How does he achieve that texture????
