  • You know what? I think I'm gonna buy FS 1 and 2.

  • 2:13 that's a sound cue from Babylon 5 Haha!

  • A shame that Lucifer didn't actually have any shields, it was only set on invulnerability. It is funny to see that a single shot from any weapon makes the Lucifer went atmosphere :D

  • where do i get the high def OGG versoin for fs2open

  • some of the music sounds like Babylon 5 music, But Freespace rocks...

  • Most gamers have a picture of Master Chief beside their beds.

Master Chief has a picture of Alpha One beside his.

  • 00:50 always gives me goosbumps

  • Why wasn't there any more these things in the sequel, it would have been to see the Colossus take it out.

  • thats where the vasudans came from? so there a lot like humans. how long have theyy existed?

  • I kinda like how you put in the music from B5, the bombing of Narn-scene, in the end. ;)

Which, just by the by, is one of the most powerful scenes in the B5-series. *shivvers*

  • 4 people like Freelancer. 104 people have taste.

  • @Nonamearisto

Or those four people lost their homes in this orbital bombardment.

  • This video has a dislike every 1 billion vasudans killed...

    4 dislikes = 4 billion vasudans dead :(

Please don't kill Vasudans, Thumbs up... not down!

  • @SVB222 seems to work^^

  • this is a LOT better than Freelancer

Fuck microsoft telling Digital Anvil to make the game "less ambicious"

  • RIP Vasuda Prime. But 32 years leater, we hold the line.

  • Are they going to put this in the FSPort campaign in a future version?

  • And to think the Lucifer was scary before we played FS2 and to think the Sathanis was scary before we saw the Shivans gather around Capella, and to think we thought the Shivans gathering was scary before we played Inferno.

  • mofo Big Ant of doom, designation Lucifer

  • wow I didnt see this part in the game

  • Oy Icey.

    Good stuff.

  • Hi I have the SCP and am playing this campaign. Can't get any of the cutscenes to appear however. Any way to get them put in (as the fs1 campaign just doesnt feel the same without them) ?

  • 0:55 Oh my god! It's the lucifer!

  • Volition is fine - it was bought over and is now owned by THQ. Interplay mostly only exists as a licence-seller, and it's unlikely THQ would see the Freespace license as good value. Ergo Volition are nowadays making console games like Red Faction Guerilla and Saints Row.

  • The Lucifer is the emobodiment of death and despair. I love the part after the Galatea was destroyed and you hear from the Admiral the Vasudans just lost their homeworld. Both despair and hopelessness sets in as you try to complete more missions to save earth.

  • @NecrossKnight Oh yes, her name is her Legacy.

You hit it spot on buddy :).

  • How come the Terran transport in the beginning is upside-down?

  • Well, in space there is no such thing as "upside-down". I don't know if the Chronos is suposed to be flown like in the video, or the other way.

It is most likely flying that way so it can easily pick up cargo containers off the ground without having to actually land.

  • woo very nice video. i hop freespace 3 coming soon ;)

  • @r3un1on probably not 4 a while, they decided not 2 make it coz FS2 didn't sell well

  • ... didn't sell well? ... that's impossible. FS and FS2 is quite possibley the best space flight sim of ALL TIME .... what is wrong with gamers these days?

Well, maybe a group of us fans and modders can get together and make a FS3 with the FS2 source code. Just need Volition for the completed story. It needs an ending

  • there are also licensing issues due to the takeover of interplay by THQ and the subsequent open sourcing of the code.

Its a legal nightmare which is robbing us of one of the most anticipated (by those into space sims) sequels of all time.

  • Volition has been going in and out of bussness and lost their claim to Freespace, So they cant make a fs3 :(

  • After more then 10 years of playing freespace 1 and 2 it is nice to see a new cutscene

  • this is not a new cutscene, it's even not original, since it uses music from babylon 5 and volition would never had done this.

  • @cloreal

    read the infos......

  • Nice video, Babylon 5 music rocks! :)

  • The huge beam that ransacked the city is impossible. If that beam isn't even as wide as a 2 kilometre destroyer, how can it blast apart a 10 kilometer city?!

  • it's a game...

  • I figured the beam fanned out when it entered the atmosphere.

Besides, it looks freaking awesome, so I'm not questioning it too hard.

  • every ray gets diffused with distance, even laser. For example shoting from Earth a centimeter wide laser beam, gives circle wide about 3 kms on moon's surface.

  • Kind of a narrow-minded way of looking at it. A nuclear device can be held in a suitcase and still devastate a city. I figure the beam is so huge for 1 or all of 3 reasons. #1- Atmospheric lensing, #2- If it's laser based, lasers do "fan out" over time, and #3 The sheer energy behind it; for instance, a paint chip from a previous shuttle mission could take out the Space Shuttle if it was traveling in the opposite direction in orbit just due to the amount of velocity difference.

  • Probably had a setting to reduce the cohesion or change the focus of the beam. Not hard to imagine.

  • Wow, a ship 2.7 kilometres long could barrage an entire planet to dust in 13 hours...

  • So I just noticed that as the Lucifer enters it's got the greenish coloration, but then that turns red once it's in-system... interesting...

  • If in a game of freespace 2 in the second mission of the 107 ravens one of the pilots say that in the great war Terran does not have shield, beam cannon till flak guns. only missles and lasers!

    IDK for vasudans!

  • ok i love the game but its been a while since i played, relativ to the ship doesnt that beam seems to be a little HUGE?

i don't really found the specs on the lucifer, so any fan pls tellme

  • In game it's a lot smaller than that but there's an animation in FreeSpace that shows the Lucifer wasting an entire city with one beam, so it's fair enough.

  • Lucifer

    Length: 2777 metres

    Weight: Probably 10,000,000 tons :)

  • @marcovaaa The Lucifer doesn't weigh anything since it's always out in space. What you're probably thinking of is mass.

  • that song playing while the Lucifer fired it's main beam onto Vasuda Prime sounds like a tune they were playing I heard from the TV series Babylon 5..... ahh I remember it was when the Centauri used mass drivers to devastate the Narn homeworld to end that war.

    good video.

  • is auch (is halt nen edit movie)

  • Does anyone think this game may have influenced Sins of a Solar Empire in any way?

  • I've played both games quite extensively, and no I don't think so.

The Vsaari got their asses kicked by some dark enemy that no one has identified. That's in their back story. the shivans are the ones DOING the ass kicking. Not really a parallel

  • Nope. S(h)ins of a Solar Empire is a misunderstanding. Crappy Starcraft rip-off whose producers didn't even make an effort to come up with an original storyline.

  • its a multiplayer game and your a retard its nothing close to starcraft. its a RT4x game

  • Hoorah to the FS series!

    ...and fuck all Freelancer twats.

  • It's not like Freespace replaces Freelancer or vice versa, they're completely different games.

  • @Eglab And what about guys like me? Those who loved FS AND spent countless hours on Freelancer, too?

But I really have to admit, that the feeling of flight in FS is the best, but the story of Freelancer is better.

    No hard feelings - Cheers!

  • @KrautGoesWild nooooooooooo nonono everything freespace better flatout. besides 2 first freespace for the win

  • this video is awesome... unfortunately four bilions vasudans died

  • four bilion imaginary characters :D

  • The music at the end, when the bombardment begins, that Za'Ha'Dum from Babylon 5

  • Fantastic!!

  • Awesome movie - been playing FreeSpace with the upgraded source code and graphics and it brings back so many good memories. I'd love to see a third installment of the series, but it will probally never be.

  • I wonder if the inside of those cargo containers is comfy. Hard to tell which side goes up on freighters sometimes...

The Lucifer's blue laser look slike a weapon reserved for planetary bombardmen, as the Harbinger bomb once was.

  • More comfy than the center of that city, I'd say...

  • i never understood, what was that weapon on the lucifer which shot the blue beam? it looked like it simply shot out the side of the ship...

  • It was called a flux cannon....not a clue what it really shoots though.

  • flux capacitors XD

(retarded and all, but back to the future :D)

  • This is an awesome cutscene. The only thing I have to nit-pick about is the upside-down freighters, which wouldn't be a problem except they're in an atmosphere, which would be awkward for the pilots.

  • Maybe they're not upside down.

  • Doubt it because of how they were shown in the tech room.

  • in the silent thread-pirate mission they fly exactly this way ;)

  • That's because in space, there's no up or down, so yuo can fly with any orientation, and it won't be considered "wrong" unless you're plotting it on a 2D plane. This was on a planet though, and I'm sure the crew would be upside-down too.

  • They have artificial gravity. They make their own up and down.

  • I havn't played Silent Threat in a few years but when you get to Freespace 2 it once again goes back to how they were in Freespace and even if they were flying like that in the game(which in my opinion I highly doubt based on recollection) does that Chronos freighter really look like it's flying rightside up? Still a wonderful video I enjoyed it but my god the Satis and Chronos freighters flying upside down just irritates me.. I'm picky on things I love.

I'll say it again though really good.

  • If you've played the new Hi-res update then you'd know thats how they infact fly.

Alot of ships mainly freighters that I thought were right side up turned out they werent.

  • Und wieso kommentiere ich dann auf Englisch?

    Naja, egal.

  • Wait a second... are you Icey Jones from the german Freespaceforum? oO

  • bingo ;-)

  • Where did you get this oO

did you make that yourself oO

And shouldn't the beam be red-colored, due to shivan technology?

  • i made it, yes

and no...the lucifer-beam was also blue in the mission breefing animation in the game

  • I know the SCP one looks like that. I use SCP myself. I meant the original game one (no SCP).

  • The Lucifer in this cutscene was 10 times cooler than the one actually in-game :/

  • not true ;-) it IS the game model of the actual SCP-version ;-)

the only extra-effect i used was the change of the colour during activation of the shields....

  • holy shit this was an Awesome cutscene! there should have been a few more shots showing the fighters mopping up the escaping vessels rather then just having 3 vessels making it out.

fyi, that was a beautiful warp in. sharp and vivid.

  • so does anyone know where to get FS2 now a days?

because i cant find it anywhere

  • you can either: download it or buy it, but it is a rare game so only ebay or amazon would have it.

  • It was at this point Lucifer began to piss me off : /

  • Got to admit, the Shivans are deadly accurate. Hitting the centre of that settlement from orbit is either a superb shot, or sheer damn luck.

  • Its possible that there are even more Lucifer class destroyers. They said it in the game. Perhaps another encounter with the Shivans will occur in FS3

  • Problem is FS3 will never happen and perhaps that's a good thing. Then the players themselves can forge a continuation of the story. IMO FS3(if someone wants to make it) will never live up to the old games unless they keep everything the same and ramp up the things that need improving(What the SCP project is doing currently!)

  • There are a lot of mods that extend the FreeSapce universe (Derelict, Inferno, etc.), and they could be unified into a single logical mod/campaign pack in the future. Derek Smart owns the trademark "FreeSpace 3", though, so we won't be able to name it that.

  • This has been tried on the HLP forums before, many times infact and really, it doesn't work. For starters every campaign maker has their own ideas about the continuation on a story and has history has proven over and over again. A compromise NEVER EVER works, if the community want to make a FS3(I don't care about Derek Stupid) Then they all should agree on one storyline. Maybe have a vote for the best one?

  • sorry, that should be "Then they all have to agree on one storyline" which is not likely to happen. Unless someone makes a really good storyline

  • lol... you still have hope for FS3...

Why would they go back to a Lucifer when they've got 120 Sathani? A Lucifer wouldn't be so great anymore, because of the Terran and Vasdans' beam weapons.

  • ha! nice. never seen this version.

damn copyright laws! i needs me some freespace 3 =/

  • What was wrong with this video? The begining looks a bit crude and I'm pretty sure that's not the original music. But except for that, it looks quite finished to me.

  • in the cutscenes there was ALWAYS a different music than the original intro or ingame soundtrack. but i thought this music fits fretty well into the freespace universe and specially in this cutscene.... :-)

  • Gawd i want to play this game so badly and have bought it but cannot get the game to start after the launch menu. It just goes black and i have to restart my computer :(

  • if this happens at other games, than maybe youre dvd-drive is broken xD (my friend happend this, for real!)

  • No all my other games work fine. Just when i start this game the screen goes black and it is in the game but well nothing happens it just stays black and does nothing. HAve tried it on 2 computers. (both xp but with it set to 95 compatible setting)

  • Have you tried downloading the open source version? It runs just fine on all platforms.

  • How the flying **** did the Lucifer have a shield? None of the other cap ships have, even the GTSD Colossus. I have beat the SCP fs1 port, but I can't believe that ****ing bastard had shields.

  • you do have a point there, but the shivans are years ahead of the gtva so i wouldn't be expecting the colossus or any gtva cap ship to have shields for a long time and i believe at the time the lucifer was the most valuable shivan ship so the shivans shielded it so it wouldn't get destroyed.

  • Ha-hem, the SD Lucifer has shields, at least in FS1.

  • Wow, I always wondered what happened in that part of the game. Thanks! That clears up some things!

    -Graciethedog11

  • Great vid! :P

Ever since I played the first Freespace-game, I've been wondering how Vasuda Prime fell. Thanks for uploading this :)

  • The opening scene in this video somehow reminds me of Halo 2.

  • HLPshould put this into the next version of FSport! I can't wait any longer for the Tombaugh video... Colossus-Chrash

  • Icey, reupload the cutscene. Youtube can have it shown in high quality now for newly uploaded videos.

  • with high motivation ;o)

  • Must have been odd for the crew of the GTFr Chronos to fly effectively upside down, especially when loading the refugees. Same they only used some of the cutscene for briefings.

  • How long did it take to make this all? And what's the second music called? Also, I think it should have been used longer, like in the pre-extended version.

On the other hand- great job! And now I don't have to worry about uploading it. ;)

  • the second music is from babylon 5 where they bomb narn....lok into the thread on HLP. there a user posted the name.....

in total it took 3 weeks approximately....

  • Hi guys its me, the TE. Under a different name. Sweet to see this finally up here.

The music you are talking about is form "The Long Twilight Struggle" Suite by Christopher Franke.
