This is from The Festival Express. The only rock festival where the musicians got to STAY together, on a train, rolling across the country. Made for a great vibe. Rolling Stones....do you hear? Try this next tour....it'll change everything...
The last recordings of Sneaky are documented on Burrito Deluxe's rereleased CD/DVD "Disciples of the Truth". Check out the trailer on Luna Chica Records page. It's a must have for fans and collectors alike.
Just a personal opinion, but I always thought Pete Kleinow's playing sounded out of tune! Well at least he sure used some weird and wonderful chord progressions! :-)
Just watched a video outlining all the things that Pete Kleinow did down the years - besides playing great PSG. Hope he'll forgive me for being one ignorant SOB!
What an era for country-rock pedal steel players! The early 70's had Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Rusty Young and let's not forget the incomprable Jeff "Skunk" Baxter's work with Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers. His pedal steel solo on "South City Midnight Lady" is still one of the most beautiful moments in all of 70's music.
now let me see he sounds kinda familar is he the steel player that the buffalo springfield brought in and then done that cut for poco called el tonto de nadie, regresa
Yeah, Richie and Jim formed Poco with Rusty when the Springfield broke up. Rusty is the only member to have been in poco from the start and still doing it now! He is awesome, played the steel like an organ and through a leslie speaker and stuff for an innovative sound. Check out a vid on here called 'Poco - nature of love' from 'Marisha4sure', great steel solo
I found out I could get in free, as long as I went w/ my coworker who had 2 free tickets awaiting her at will call.
Wow. Life is good. So, we dated for a while, and I quickly learned she owned a pedal steel she couldn't play, but bought because of the sound that both Sneaky Pete and Jerry Garcia [N.R.P.S.] made with it.
I would've done the same thing, had I the money back then.
I remembered when I moved to L.A. from Baltimore. Working in the Music Biz, my 1st month on the job I asked how I could get tickets to see what was left of the Flying Burrito Bros., when I learned they would be at The Troubadour in Hollywood. Yeah, it was the Flying Again tour, and only Sneaky Pete and Chris Ethridge remained from the original band, but I still had to see Sneaky Pete play his magic on Pedal Steel.
Great clip!!! Just blows me away!!! Too bad about Sneaky. My God, are we all getting that old, oh boy! I hope the new administration will allow stem cell research. Sneaky Pete shouldn't have to forget even one of his ultra cool and brilliant solos.
Great video! You should put Gram Parsons in the tags -- he's not in this clip but it's one of his songs and his fans would like it. BTW, sad news: Sneaky Pete has Alzheimers and is in a care facility.
Didnt he play on Jackson Brownes " Redneck Friend "
