The whole "zed" thing is kind of funny. It doesn't rhyme, so it doesn't sound right from a musical standpoint. That said, it is how much of the world sings it. Not a matter of right or wrong because both "zee" and "zed" say /z/. :)

In fact, it may be a good idea because the parts repeated were the most confused section of the alphabet (lmnop). This is often so fast that young learners cannot understand them.

And, I would further argue that knowing the alphabet names is not all that important until later. It has actually been shown to slow down the progress by which children learn to read. Food for thought.

The pronounciation of Z as Zed comes from British English and all their erstwhile colonies like India say it that way as well. The Americans shortened the British English so that all the mutts and Spanglish speakers could learn English with less difficulty.
