  • Actually pbspme is correct. It is incredibly unsafe to position your body and hands like that. Always stand to the side, and have your thumbs furthest away from the barrel, as they are more likely to take your hand with them, should the gun go off.

I'm part of the English Civil War Society, and have been for 4-5. My role being artillery. Just so y'know.

  • I can't believe cannons are still legal in England.

If they are legal I bet they won't be for long.

You could really hurt or even kill people with one of those evil assault weapons!

    (sarcasm)

  • Well, I a not all that experienced but I've seen cannons blow when rammed like that.

Certainly love the energy of the group, too!!

  • what i mean is the littlest one. the others i wouldn't fire by hand.

  • hell you might as well just fire those little cannons by hand. those are tiny bores.

  • bcberryfarm the grass is used as wading/cannonball but i don`t think that the college will let my mum fire a cannonball on college grounds (unlees the college was being attacked).but we did manage to clear out the college kitchin and canteen though heh heh heh .

  • what are they shooting? clumps of grass?!

  • I'm surprised the ram wouldn't cause the powder to explode. It must be due to all the wadding.

Love the energy of the group :-)

  • sorry but this is a safe prosedure what ever youe views are. as you are from america then i think you should exept that there will be diferances in loading from country to country. See the loading and firing methods used today on this type of gun in italy before you express your views which are wrong.

  • A very unsafe loading procedure. Unsafe to have both hands in front of loaded gun, to repeatly ram down powder and wadding, and 2nd gun loaded without anyone blocking vent hole. Few other things not safe but those are the biggies. A bit scary. Yes, I am an experience black powder artillerist.
