  • Bossa Nova!! Brasil... tudo de Bom!! I love music!!!

  • @bigsleepyOx thank you for your such an informative reply, much appreciated.

  • ♫ night bossa ♫

  • @mightyhieu07 I looked up the James Hill version. Very fine. But best ever? That has to be Charlie Byrd and Stan Getz.

  • awesome!!! a great song by a great singer. Astrud's gentle approach to the song and Stan's attack with his sax harmonizes so beauifully. thanks for the post.

  • Tom Jobim combed Brasil for somebody to sing his stuff. He auditioned Astrud on a fluke, not expecting much; It was the perfect sound, and he immediately knew it. So how can she not be a singer when nobody else could do what she does?

  • This is just a little samba, built upon a single note Other notes are sure to follow but the root is still that note Now this new note is the consequence of the one we've just been through As I'm bound to be the unavoidable consequence of you There's so many people who can talk and talk and talk And just say nothing or nearly nothing I have used up all the scale I know and at the end I've come To nothing I mean nothing So I come back to my first note as I must come back to you I will...
  • who is playing the alt.sax?

  • @senerozgun

Stan Getz is the sax player (tenor sax, I believe). This track is originally from the "Getz au Go Go" album, which is a concert album featuring the Stan Getz Quartet, plus Astrud Gilberto who sings on half of the songs (the other songs are instrumentals).

And in case you were wondering, no, they didn't perform "Girl From Ipanema" at the concert. :p

  • @BigSleepyOx

A quick correction to my previous post: Astrud sings not on 1/2, but on 2/3rds of the songs of the Getz au Go Go concert album (not counting last "song" which isn't a really song, it's just audio of the conclusion of the concert).

  • アストラッド・ジルベルト~このひとの評価はひょっとして今が一番高いかも!?~ワン・ノート・サンバの不可思議な調べ!~ナイス! #jazzm

  • Live at the long-gone cafe' au Go Go, but still a great live performance. It was more about getz and his new quartet, at first, but Astrud stole the show. She truely is timeless and just knock down gorgeous.

  • Gracias . Love it . Bossa Nova .

  • @BarerMender..not a singer? The artist makes things appear effortless, that the layman finds impossible, no matter how hard he tries. We call this phenomenon: "Talent"

  • Astrud Gilberto is famous for not being a singer. She misses notes, she has no range to speak of, no technique to show, but she has such a charming voice you can't help but listen.

  • Wow, looks like i'm the youngest here, i'm just fifteen and i love her songs, even though she's old, i'm in love with her voice....wish i was born the same date she was so i can marry her voice

  • 10 people dislike this. Why?!

  • @FatherPeru Don't worry about it. They're missing out.

  • アストラット・ジルベルトの「ワンノートサンバ」が聞けるなんて、便利な世の中になったけど、やっぱりいいね。

  • im her fan since my hischool days thirty five years ago.

  • Simply the voice of Bossa Nova.....Classic!

  • yea.. This duo is like Timeless!!!!!! oh yea.. from my father sisters....lol.. and alll over the next generations, they need too learn Spanish/Portugese..lol...yea

  • @TrollKrieg REALLY? I would love to see the Bieber try this...That would prove he's more than just the a nice haircut.

  • @Zipemova1 Bieber, who's that? Is that Jerry Mathers as the Beiber? Tell Wall and Lumpy Hello. I believe Jazz is a little out your range. Stay with Pop music and one day you too can run what's left of the free world.

  • @erivera123able

Silly Rabbit...I love jazz. I was poking fun at the Justin Bieber. He would probably fall all over himself trying to sing in this style.

  • @TrollKrieg Justin Bieber has more talent than Astrud Gilberto? Are you drunk or deaf... oh wait, you are a flaming troll :D.

  • I am so in love with this dynamic duo!!! • I really like it but it seems the sax is too overbearing in places.

  • @51362879 Because Stan Getz is a white guy from Norte America...played bebop okay, early on especially, but the poor cat never really got the samba/bossa nova feeling, and I knew them all as a child...

  • @ohyppest1

Stan Getz was never an American ! He is Swedish !!

  • Her voice has this fragile sound under which there are waves of sensuality-so unique!

  • GREAT!

  • Great!!!

  • Oh yeah, i just need the margaritas

  • Yes, this by far the best bosa nova for dancing and loving I've ever heard. My legs keep moving I can't sit or even stand still while listening to lovely Astrud. Wow...life's beautiful !!!!!!

  • the james hill version is the best..it's just instrumental but his presentation of this song is fabulous.

  • @mightyhieu07 hey, thanks for the info! I should check his version out! :)

  • @mightyhieu07 The Antonio Carlos Jobim version is mellow too.

  • Try Laurindo Almeida playing it with the Modern Jazz Quartet! by no means the best rendition ever.

  • @mightyhieu07

    lol no

  • @mightyhieu07 Personally I enjoy the Coleman Hawkins Version. You'll have to check it out.

  • @mightyhieu07 thansk for pointing that out Very nice version

  • I love you Astrud!

  • i love Astrud Gilberto

  • Hermosa voz.

  • astrud is making love to my ears

  • Her voice is absolutely stunning - def. added to favourites 5/5

  • Her voice oozes sweetness.

  • I love Astrud. She wasn't a great vocalist but she was a great singer. Stan Getz is playing I believe. They had a brief fling in the mid 60's I read.

  • Wow, Stan with the sweetest tone, glissandos, leading tones, harmony and rhythmic slap tongue. He is the master.

  • stan getz no tenor!!!!

  • what language is this

(very good! love her thx to my daddy :)

  • It's portuguese.

  • Seems it starts in portuguese but then switch to english.

  • Translated.

  • portuguese

  • Portuguese

  • Astrud Gilberto, with her distinctive style, is the only competition that Lani Hall of Brasil 66 ever had. Both are a joy to listen to and it is easy to get lost in their music.

  • Love you stan, even if you stole joao's wife!

  • Astrud is the greatest!

  • No, Tom jobim is, he composed it

  • beautiful voice! I absolutely love astrud.

  • This is simply fantastic!!

  • Astrud is heavenly!

  • Que bom!

  • listening to this is absolute heaven...thx

  • one of my fave bands stereolab does a nice cover of this song!

  • Can anyone give me the chords of this song? :-)

  • real book

  • I've been in love with Astrud Gilberto since the release of "The Girl from Ipanema" forty-five years ago. Portuguese is the sexiest language on the planet...

  • All songs should be sung in Portuguese, especially love songs.

  • She's great, beautiful voice! . The only ones to do those songs better are Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66.

  • @50Emerald

50emerald, I got to see Astrud perform with Stan Getz back in 1980 here in Chicago. Her voice sounded as good then as it does in these old recordings from the sixties.

  • god i wanna take portugese

  • Sim, eu também.

  • Sim

  • Sounds like The Sound, that's for sure.

  • I absolutely love \Astrud Gilberta. She has such a clear voice that projects sexiness and friendliness at the same time. She never unneccesarilly trills a note or sings in that "look at me. Don't I sing great style." of so many modern singers and their vulgar reality show wannabes. It goes without saying that Stan Getz ranks at the top of his class of elite sax players. What a great combo!

  • When it's all set and done, the contemporary artist of today will be gone tomorrow, but artist such as Astrud and Stan Getz will forever stand the test of time. They offer something that squeaky electronics sex based music videos don't have: heart!

  • @DickAllen4HOF yeah...you forgot that she's sexy as a maafaacka too! : )

Music is a blessing, so God bless you all. You didn't find this music...this music found you!

  • @DickAllen4HOF - so true about unnecessarily trilling a note! Another great would be Karen Carpenter.

  • @ScottfromTexas Indeed. Astrud Gilberto, Karen Carpenter, and I'd add Patsy Cline -- three different genres, three different worlds, but one thing in common -- among the greatest voices of the 20th Century. WIth all three, it was like they were in the room with you, singing just to you. Wish we had their like today.

  • @Iwakuni8 I see you have a video of Justin Bieber on your page. Is this the "substitution" for Karen Carpenter you were looking for?

  • @erginakif "Justin Bieber?"

    Oh Cripes!

  • @DickAllen4HOF When you are right you're right. I'd tell you if you were wrong. :+)

  • @DickAllen4HOF

That is such a precise description of Astrud Gilberto's voice. Thanks.

  • aayyy dios mioooo me encanta esta canción,,, está preciosisisisisiisisima!

  • I never knew the lyrics to this tune until now--it's genius! What an idea for a song, and how excellently executed! (By the singer as well.)

  • i love her more when she sings in brazilian. i still love her husband's earlier version.

  • What's the instrument called that the music starts out with and continues throughout? (It kind of sounds like two sticks hitting together?)

  • Does anyone know if she is still performing and which country? She is the voice that I would travel many miles to hear live. Stan and her blue the world apart in the early .60's with Girl From Ipanema. I'm still needing to hear her live. She's like trying to quit smoking. Most people can do it but they never kick that submerged desire. Thanks for the post. GRADE A

  • this is from the recording for the stan getz album "getz au gogo". they recorded the applause and rerecorded the music a week after or so ind studio.

  • Love her voice. Is there a version with her singing this in English?

  • If you like this, I'm surprised you didn't even listen til the end...

  • Doh.. don't I feel silly. I've been hunting around the net for an English one that I thought I remembered hearing over 30 yrs ago and here it was right in front of me. :) Thanx

  • The voice of Bossa Nova. There's just no one else like her.

  • My favorite singer. She may be easy to listen to, but hers is not "easy listening" music. This is pure jazz, every bit as talented in her own way as Dinah or Billie or Ella.

  • You are spot on. THe restraint she shows within these songs is amazing. Singing within that bossanova/samba idiom without oversiging like so many jazz and soul singers do. Very cool vocals in more ways than one.

  • one of her best...and ofcourse stan getz ...timeless..

  • Right you can not forget Stan Getz on sax.

  • That's the best part. ;)

  • Don't forget to mention Stan Getz's sax!

  • This is sooooooooo relaxing! I love her voice, its so soft like walking on a puffy white cloud.

  • some easy listening right here. even though I don't understand what she is saying...

  • It is. :)

  • So nice!

  • that would be so nice.

  • If one day I'd find.

  • hehehe

  • man!!! I love her voice:)
