  • the guy claiming he's blowing and moving the toothpick is correct. i know the toothpick trick, and he admitted to the blowing later. also when his mouth is covered he moves his hand fast and creates a small "air bullet" which is also a trick i can do. it's very easy. little practice is needed.

  • When I heard Davidson say he heard him blowing, I thought for once a critical view was used. Then it was sickening when he appeared convinced that he performed the trick covering his mouth.

  • Let me guess--his defense in 1989 was that he never actually touched anyone...

  • This man is liar..And full of false,I don't like this man

  • good that the host said that he heard him blow.. but Hydrick managed to do the trick anyway with the wind from his hands

  • It's hard to interpret the dislikes on this video, is it that they dislike James Hydrick, or the poster? I would like to think they are disliking Hydrick, and not the poster. You know that Hydrick guy is in jail for molesting a bunch of kids now?

  • @TenchiJeff Quite right. He was convicted in 1989 of molesting five boys.

  • the skeptic also hosted hollywood squares in the 80's right?

  • "Chi" is not a magical force. It is only a concept!

  • Thats Bulshit!!

  • This is real people. Please don't buy the bullshit James Randi sells you.

  • @LucifersArgument That's a cheap tricks, don't buy in them.

  • @chronius9 How about research it, find that many other people from around the world, across time say the same thing, research more, find out there is a conspiracy against this knowledge becoming public. From the inquisition down to mainstream "science". Not everyone is trying to trick you. Don't flatter yourself. Your government and Randi are the ones who use cheap tricks ironically.

  • @LucifersArgument This is real? Why did his "powers" suddenly fail him just because there was some plastic around a telephone book? Explain this to me.

  • @kqcrazii With all respect friend, you have this air of skepticism that is anti-thetical to the scientific method. Science used to be about investigating the "anomalous". Look at it now. Sure, there are definitely frauds around, but they don't last too long. I've researched this for nearly 3 years now. Even the great Houdini had "psychic" powers but, the same as Randi, he would say that it was "tricks" when he actually possessed the same faculties as the REAL mediums. Check your inbox.

  • @LucifersArgument Well my country government is less potential than barely sober 80 years man, so I doesn't buy to government's argument. Also psychic frauds, specifically Uri Geller's kind use simple set of rules for trick: make it simple, hard tricks attract suspicion, learn few ways to trick viewer, to avoid easy capture, learn few tricks for audience, variety hurts. Why I can reproduce most tricks without psychic powers: even if some powers are true these powers are useless anyway.

  • That's Incredible

  • Go to wikipedia and look this Jame Hydrick guy up. He's doing time for some kind of sexual perv charges oral copulation on a 5 year old or somethinig!

  • james randi is brilliant!

  • it's call bull....shit...and anybody can do it!!!....hahahahahah

  • what a fraud, james even said i gather up air and blow at the object, i just wanted to see how dumb america was and the world if they believed it....

  • Ignoring the egg smell, I can move pencils & other small objects with my back turned...

  • @squareatheist The pencil is balanced on the edge of the table. Virtually any gust of air, including the ones by his hands, can easily move the pencil. Try it on your desk.

  • Haha..the 80's.

  • I know it's all fake and I know how it's all done; but you can't deny, dude has some talent. ha-ha.

  • @koolanator so true, its a con but hes one good con artist. even randi comments he impressed

  • @nagga123456789

He could have been a good magician, if only he never claimed that he actually has psychic powers

  • This is so American

  • In a way he didnt lie. He did say anybody can do this.lol

  • @gelflingy Interesting...thanks for the education!

  • all looks good but he,s full of shit

  • John Davidson is Actual KEN 80's rules... and also remember he couldn't made the trick there too,,

  • Isn't the guy who was exposed by randy?

  • It's called booty what?? 1:35

  • i bet he blew that kid he molested

  • I'm amazed that this guy fooled people for so long; I mean, it's ridiculous and quite depressing that people would believe he was using psychic powers.

  • Its done by blowing or thrusts of air..

  • I'd like Randi to show us how Hydrick did the toothpick trick.

  • He admitted he blows it!

  • its they power of supreme bullshit

  • Sam Chai! Boddhishu!! Funny.

  • whats incredible is that people believed this shit

  • @phildirt3 No kidding! Is it just me, or did this show itself seem "incredibly" dorky and cheesy, even for the 80s? I never did like it. I always thought it was an imitation of "Real People."

    John Davidson: "He did it!"

    Audience: "That's incredible!"

    Puhhhhh-leeeeeeze...

Excuse me, I gotta go puke now...

  • I remember recreating the pencil trick when I was in 3rd grade. Once you balance the pencil on the edge of a table, even the slightest breath will make it spin, stop, and change direction.

  • gotta admit the guy has balls to pull that bullshit off on TV though lol

  • i loves thats incredible ! we need more decent shows like this back !

  • It's real!!! I discovered how to do these tricks myself.

    It's called Physics

  • exactly how retarded were ppl back in the 80s to believe this was more than a trick???????????????????

  • Come on. If he's that psycho kinetically endowed - why the edge of the table? Why not the middle of the table. Why have the toothpick resting on both fingers and not his lap with his hands tied behind his back? It's so stupid.

  • Eh, wtf. Why doesn't the woman feel his breathing or whatever?

  • Hahahah, awesome performance. Clever con man, the look on the guy's face at 4:35 is priceless!

  • i enjoyed the master at.... something comment

  • @machetey You're welcome : )

  • "Oh my goodness, I can feel it."No shit Sherlock. That's what happens when you blow on a hand. By the way his breath was very powerful and accurate. He could actually aim a stream of air through the cracks of Davidson's hand. This is also how he accomplished his famous aquarium/card trick, by blowing through the crack between the table and the tank. He could have been a great magician if he wasn't such a con artist. He probably could have been filthy rich just by entertaining people. Shame.

  • @zabukazar He didnt do the pencil trick with his breath most of the time. The pencil trick can be done with just the motion of the hands. His hands developed air that moved the pencil. Thats why he moved the pencil without blowing

  • watch as he moves his hands, AIR people! omg i know you cant be that blind. he confessed on a diff tv show, after being debunked over and over

  • "I do NOT believe James Hydrick has ANY special mind powers." - He admitted that he's a fraud, I wouldn't imagine anyone believe he have any sort of special powers or abilities, beside blowing air out of his mouth in a discreetly way :-D

  • How did he move it with his head turned???

  • He's already been exposed as a fake and admitted it interviews

  • it called CHI... people read about it it not voodoo.. or magic

  • @Zuleyma2006 Chi is a concept in ancient Chinese healing philosophy. My Kung fu teachers of 18 years, were born and trained in China. They were not westerners teaching KungFu in strip malls! Let's grow up everybody!

  • isn't weird how after the host puts his hand on hydrick's mouth hydrick moved the pencil closer and more close to the edge

  • @Xachi97 the wierdest thing is that he still moved it !

  • why didn't he do that cool tooth pick trick when James randi debunked him on "that's my line". I still don't know how he did that?

  • james Hydrick was a phony. He was using his breath. He developed the routine while in prison. He is currently a violent sexual predator and is getting treatment in California

  • wow, i am old.. i used to watch this all the time when i was a teenager....omg...the end is near..lol

  • @232323C i know what u mean same here !

  • This host at least was sketpic and saw all the problems with him, not as great as Randi though =)

  • Kudos to John Davidson for trying to call his bluff. Pretty ballsy considering Hydrick coulc have got mad and kicked his ass.

  • I think he was pressed to much by the press and all and he was lead to confess something that was not really true so people would lay off him

Blowing on things does not explain how the Rod comes back unless he got some supernatural sucking power ! and also the thing with his mouth Govered is not explained either

  • @Realmasterorder lol @ this guy

  • @Realmasterorder so you're saying

"i don't know how he did it, therefore it's real magic!'

People like you believed in witches during the middle ages

  • and for my next trick ill inhale!

  • I'll give him some respect though for showing how stupid people are though.

  • He admitted he was a fake after he got exposed.

  • even if it is not special, his control is impressive and clearly took intense and consistent practice to do without contorting his face.

  • Wow.... Master of hand movements and blowing... ;D

  • James Hydrick is currently incarcerated by the California Department of Corrections and is being treated at a state mental hospital as a violent sexual predator.

Speaking of "mouths", he was convicted of oral copulation of a minor in concert with force, etc., and has not fully followed the registration requirements as a sex offender.

  • @PencilsAreAwesome on boys or girls????

  • I know he blows on it but how did he do it with his mouth covered?

  • @HakerzTM Regarding the Pencil on the Table trick, I used to do this trick as a kid. When you balance a pencil on the edge of a table even the air that is moved (from moving your hands around the pencil) will move the pencil. So, basically you can do the pencil trick with a well-balanced pencil on the edge of a table and you can either blow on the pencil with your mouth or just move your hands fast around the pencil to create air-movement which will move the pencil.

  • @defendingthekingdom agreed. I tried the same thing and it also worked. If he really had powers, why not just put the pencil on the table flat out without putting it on the edge and make it roll around or side to side or whatever, that busted him but it took Randi to really get him, that petophile bastard!

  • @HakerzTM Re: defendingthekingdom -- Which explains why he had to reposition the pencil very carefully before doing it with his mouth covered.

  • @HakerzTM The currents of air in the room...and plus his hands causing additional air flow. Why else would he need to balance the pencil on the edge of the table if he has psychic powers.

  • @HakerzTM I also do this trick. I sometimes blow on a pencil, sometimes just use the currents created by my hands, depending on how heavy the pencil is. I astonish my students with the trick, then encourage them to figure out how I did it, and then do it themselves.

  • @HakerzTM look at the pencile position its balanced on the adge of table and since movement of the hands creates wind the thing will easly move by the power of wind created by rapid movement of the hands

  • @HakerzTM It's the way the pencil was balanced. Any slight movement or air current makes the pencil move. When James Randi demonstrated it on tv, he showed that the air conditioning in the studio caused the pencil to move if it was balanced precariously on the edge of the table. I fool people with this trick sometimes too, but I blow at the table from my nostrils so it's harder to detect.

  • @GLASSGHOSTHUNTERS

    To add.

One can also blow on the surface of a table and deflect the air into various angles to make the pencil move.

Also one can blow into one's jacket and deflect the air with your other free arm.

  • @HakerzTM

    To add.

You can also blow out with one's nostral instead of mouth. The effect is similar.

    James Randi nailed him.

  • Good jod John Davidson for realizing Hydrick was scamming.

  • so retarded

  • The toothpick trick is a rather easy one. All you need to do is rub the toothpick very slightly on the back of your thumb nail and it will pop the other toothpick up. It moves such a short distance and so fast that nobody can see it.

  • some one needed some attension lol!

  • LOL @the Toothpick trick, ive seen my cousins husband do this and also my sister had a bf when she was 14 (1987) that could do this, they both used matches though.

So Hydrik is correct, EVERYBODY can do this, but what he doesnt mention is, u dont need psychic powers to do it as it all comes down to putting physical force on an object.

Btw if hes doing these things with his mind, why does he have to touch it?!?

  • Or put them on the edge of the table lol

  • I'll bet he could even move the pencil with his back turned if he had a burrito before the show.

  • @silbitnuoc Does he look mexican to you?

  • @silbitnuoc lol I can picture that...

    Guy: "What that smell?"

James: "It's the smell of phsycic power..."

  • @silbitnuoc

That is awesome....I find Big Macs are good for that too.

  • I know that James Randi explained that he did this by blowing without it showing on his face, but how did he do it when his mouth and nose were covered. Also how did he pull that pole back on the table.. could he also suck really hard too? (pun not intended :D) Lastly, where can I find out exactly how he is able to that?

  • Regarding the Pole on the table trick, I think he did this by simply using a table that is concave (curves down) in the center. So, once he got the pole moving forward it would roll down than back up on the other side but not have enough momentum to roll off the table, so then it would have to roll back with its own force. That's how I think he did that trick, but who knows?!

  • @defendingthekingdom Precisely the same thought that came to my mind right away.

Especially because it doesnt make sense why he has to push it away first and immidiately start to "pull" it towards him, why not simply put it on the table and even let it sit there for a few secs bfore doing anything.

He later admitted he didnt have no powers and that he perfected the tricks in jail.

Now his back in jail for sexcual assault...

  • @defendingthekingdom

That's exactly how he did it, but the table was curved to make the pole roll toards the back edge were he was, not the middle. Not only that, but the pole itself had a slight curve to facilitate rolling.

  • @defendingthekingdom

    not even.

Difficult to do but the concept is easy. It's just a delicate balance of power. When you roll something not too hard, it will move and when it loses momentum, it will move back.

  • Regarding the Pencil on the Table trick, I used to do this trick as a kid.

  • @shadowslots

Hydrick confesses that he uses deep breaths, to see how stupid the american people are. Those were is words.

  • @mikesheritage5 you idiot, he never said that. he's an ignored hero and mystic of his generation. I've seen him live when I was a kid and i know what i saw. so shut the fuck up.

  • @jjhaywood No fuck you asshole, what the video where he confesses. He specfically says he used breaths...and he wanted to see how stupid the American people are...obviously he was talking about people like you dick hole

  • @jjhaywood "James Hydrick's Shaolin Gung Fu Scam in 1980 Sugarhouse Gym" PUT THIS IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT YOU DAMN FOOL

  • @jjhaywood

I think you will find that mikesheritage5 is correct in what he says. JAMES HYDRICK did say he used breathing to move things, he also said that he wanted to see how dumb people are in believing, he also charged a fair amount of money in the 80s, for lessons which involved laying on the floor with you're eyes closed (Which some people still pay to do today under the false impression it will "Heal you're sickness")

JAMES HYDRICK said he uses jets of air out his sightly open mouth.

  • @phillitupp where's the proof... if there is no PROOF then you are making a JACKASS of yourself

  • @jjhaywood

I told you, in a interview he clearly said "I just wanted to see how dumb people could be" Do you need more proof then that?

  • @jjhaywood you're making a jackass of yourself. James Randi debunked him and Hydrick even admitted that he was a fraud. The videos are on the side of this video

  • @jjhaywood lol @ this guy even more

  • @shadowslots My guess, the legs on the end closest to him are slightly shorter than those on the far end. With practice he can exert just enough force and time when the pole will return to the other end. There is likely also a material on the surface of the table nearest him that would cause the pole to slow down on its return. Droplets of glue would suffice.

I trick my students all the time by telling the classroom air conditioner to stop rumbling after it drains. It's all about timing.

  • @shadowslots There have been written many good books on magic tricks. Also simple stuff like this :-)

  • @shadowslots With a pencil carefully and precariously balanced on the edge of the table like that the slightest transient breezes will move it. In this case moving the hands near the pencil is enough. When Randi tested Hydrick on "That's My Line" he gave him the pencil trick for that reason--it was just too instable and impossible to control. Notice that before trying it with his mouth covered he re-adjusts the pencil to be just on the very edge.

  • I remember this back in the day. We used to watch this show for shits and giggles. Ahhh, he naivety of the 80s. Scammers were so...lauded by he naive.

  • So, the power he has is called "Burishu". He should've called it, "Bullshit-u."

  • Wow they were pretty stupid on this show weren't they? He is full of crap as we all know now.

  • if they really were to have powers, they are kinda lame and stupid

  • a load of bollocks!!!

  • This is all fake

If this guy really had this power, he would be moving heavy objects too

This is like a magic trick

If this was on TV today, it would be a joke

  • John Davidson had him pegged as a fraud during the whole performance.

  • well his tricks only work on small items so maybe his pick up lines only work on small girls. thats a horrible joke but i felt an anxiety attack coming on and i had to do it but believe me i know it was bad.

  • not sure if it was a girl or boy

  • either way if thats true he has serious issues

  • Hey! How is he moving the pencil at 3:56 with his head turned? anyone?

  • Usually that part of the trick is done with the air moving from just his hands around the pencil.

  • Look very closely he attached a string to the pencil!

  • "I can hear you blowing on it"

    um.. like checkmate right there?

with the covered mouth, it may have been the gust of air from moving his hands considering that the pencil was just at the edge

  • lol! lol! he even re-adjusted it

  • is mad how this guy froud everybody with a classic toothpic trick...is the classic lil trick that the grandpa teach usually..

  • @saimon20000000000 I've never seen that trick, is he twisting it towards her hand so that the small fibres catch?

  • he's incredibly good in what he does.. i cant do that so good...the secret is soooo easy..to do that is soo damn hard!

  • The amazing thing about this guy is he had the ability, confidence, and guts to perform his tricks on a close up maner and in a lot of tv shows without been catched...We all want to belive.

  • John had him!

  • "can anyone do this?".....ya...Its called BREATHING!!!!

  • I really don't know why people can't just say "give me that" and do the same thing with the same object or with another person...

  • I'm not sure, I don't really trust this guy but I wish special power like that could exist

  • Good skepticism on that one guy's part but that guy was pure bs...

  • He didnt move it.The pencil move on its own accord.watch how many times it takes for him to balance the pencil. He just went with its direction! To get the pencil movin should it matter how its placed?(refering to hand over mouth attempt).

  • how did he move in at 4:32 with that guys hand on his mouth

  • Wow. Talk about gullible people

  • I like the scary music.

  • OMFG!!! I'm learning magic tricks and illusions and I'm EXTREMELY amazed by 1:12 when he pulls it back. I KNOW HES FAKE, and I present myself as a magician not a Psychic like this guy, but anyone have any ideas about that one? Plz help, ty.

  • I bet the table is concave meaning it probably slopes down in the middle and back up on both sides, so the pole has to role back down on either side. Just a guess though.

  • The trick is simple, like most illusionist you should have more than one methode to make the trick, just in case you get caught. In this case he was blowing with his mouth, because blowing he has more control over the pencil, when the presenter catches him he is blowing he switches to a new strategy, he pushes the pencil closer to the edge so it moves easier, then the other guy cover his mouth with the hand, but the pencil is in s position where even air current produced by the hand can move it.

  • i think the rod had a spring with weight in it. Or a liquid. Hard to tell from example.

  • look at "James Hydrick's confesion" in the related videos if you think this guy is doing anything paranormal

  • Talk about a delicious burrito. i highly recommend.

  • Why are they calling him Sung Chai?

  • Arnold Shwarzenneger magic

  • I'm interested in the toothpick trick. Any ideas?

  • search youtube for Scam School 36. There lies your answer.

  • Thank you.

  • Ol' Hydrick finally admitted to the deception, but it took him a while. Yes, Jon Davidson caught him on the show, and that took some guts on Davidson's part.

  • it blows directly on objects, but back in the 80s people doesnt´have the tech to notice. it is call budishit.

  • You gotta admit, it DOES look very convincing. If he had simply presenting himself as a magician rather than tricking people into thinking he was a psychic, he could've had a really good carreer.

Alas, he was too much of an asshole to be honest.

  • he kinda looks like Arnold Shwarzenneger and its cool how he can blow without ppl noticing

  • damn, people really ARE SUCKERS

  • Fran Tarkenton sure was cute back then!

  • the part where he looked away and the pencil moved was done by blowing. james randi demonstrated it. its done in three steps.

    1. blow.

    2. quickly look away.

    3. pencil then moves.

it takes a bit of time for the wind from blowing to reach the pencil. giving you enough time to look away.

when hydrick had his mouth covered. he had to use the wind from the motion of his hands to make the pencil move. you'll notice he uses a bit more hand force because he cant use his mouth to blow.

  • He also readjusted the pencil to the point that any small effect will move the pencil in the last one.

  • "The confessions of a leading psychic"! Good video. Get it if you can!

  • LOL god people fall for the stupidest things. Thankfully we have James "The Amazing" Randi.

  • why da pencil always on de edge of da table?

  • How does he do it with the guy's hand over his mouth?

  • you'll notice he have actually a lot more difficulties to do it without blowing. But by placing well the pencil you can move it a little only with the air that your hand deplace.

  • He blows directly down, causing it to bounce on the table.

  • John Davidson later said that he could feel James blowing air in his hand. He knew he was fake.

  • Davidson has this guy's number. I''m glad to see that someone on the show is not being fooled and can see the con that it is.

  • ohhhhhmy goodness you can feel it!

  • paperbagboy, you are an idiot, hydrick admitted it was all a work....look it up on here dumbass.
