r.p.m. doesn't work and as you don't know how to turn it off I am telling you: first you use the buton, and than you trun off the ignition. That's the proper sequence. Don't ask me why - you can read about it.
@okulczyk thank you for your comment. Tachometer did not work due to oxidized connectors. And about turning the bike off: the button you are talking about is called "emergency engine shutdown", and it was called like that forever. On every motorcycle. When you use that button (switch - would be the right word), you send the oppositely oriented impulses (micro short-circuit) to the coil, which shuts down the engine.
@Vathar This process, of course, could be used to stop the engine, but it will never be good for the coil itself. Thats why it is better to shut off the ignition first, because it simply cuts-off the current which goes from the battery. Good luck ;-)
