  • of course this song is amazing they got Jesus Christ on the drums!!

  • omg ... this was the song that turned me to the 'Dark Side'....haha..my big "bro" back in the early 70's..like way early....said lil Bro listen to this!...holy shit....fuck country!...hahaha.....ummm it done grabbed me....im a hard Rockn-Blues Guitarist thanks to my Big Bro...i So Love Him!......thanks Tony!

  • I remember this song from my first school dance in junior high :)

The rythm was so powerful that I got out on the floor even though -- and even by that bygone days very low standards -- I couldn't dance. I tried. So did the poor soul who danced with me. Neither of us suspected the song was sooooooooooooooo long! About six minutes in, people around us were laughing hysterically at us and we slunk away...to make out under the bleachers..Good tune!

  • Iron Butterfly and Steppenwolf were the 60's. PERIOD!

  • @cdlish03 don't forget about tya

  • Hey, Max,

Thanx for the info, sad as it is, on Erik Brann. 52, huh? My kid brother died @ 53. Shootin dope with dirty needles.Shit happens.

  • I don't know about best drum solo ever but it was the first one I heard on a studio album. Check out old version of T.N.U.C.by GFR at the alledged Atlanta Pop Festival 1970. I do belive it was really recorded in Florida a month later. Anyway, it Kicks Ass !!!

  • @crapfacekirk the drum solo on let rain by derek &the donomios ain't bad either

  • This song Rocks!, This band deserves to be in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

  • vientos por este mega video muchas gracias

  • esta super tenia mucho que lo busaba en disco

  • it's so good !!!!

  • Hoy tocaron en Tenerife uauauuuuuuu!!! De puta madre!!!

  • yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • This was my Theme song in "The Nam" This awakens a lot of dormant memories. Personal memories I have learned to Love, Respect, and Fear

  • I didn't even know this song had a long version until I bought the album right after it came out and this song took up one whole side. Now I'd rather listen to this long version. Nobody quite like the original members--Doug Ingle – vocals, keyboards ;Danny Weis – guitar; Greg Willis – bass; and

Jack Pinney – drums (LOVE his drum solo about the 7 min. mark). TWO THUMBS WAY UP!! And, thank you, for no breaks in it. =)

  • Thank You!!!!!

  • Gewoon te gek !!!!!!!

  • loved it then, love it now, the best drum solo ever

  • 3 guys are fags!

  • Truly EPIC!

  • the song lyrics were originally written as " In the garden of eden baby "... but after everyone interpreted the lyrics to be In A Gadda Da Vida, the band changed the original lyrics to the later, making that the official finish.

  • Can any of these rappers&beiberites, gagaites, write a rock n roll concert like the Iron Butterfly did here these days?

  • @RonSafreed Of course not. Especially true of rap and hip-hop. Aim low and expect nothing is their motto. I still have my Iron Butterfly record from '68. None of today's rap and hip-hop so called artists have an ounce of talent. Just a shame how the music industry has brought the music world to such depths of mediocrity.

  • I Ron Butterfy sounds like rock and or roll :)

  • THIS SONG IS AMAZING I AM THANKFUL THAT MY MOM GOT ME TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG I LOOOOOOOVVVEEEEEEEE <3 <3 <3 THE DRUM PART

  • Absolutely great posting... what a trip! Takes me back 45 years. For some reason the 'Star Gate' sequence near the end of "2001: A Space Odyssey" keeps floating through my mind... and the walls... and the ceiling... and anything else in my office which, at the moment, is moving.

  • HOMER SIMPSON: Hey Marge, remember when we used to make out to the Hymn?

    (*Marge Giggles*)

  • Goose bumps and flash backs.......now that's live action!

  • I was in bands in the late 60-70s Talk about the good old days. I still love playing and what about that drum solo!

  • for those of you who dont know it means in the face of life / in a gadda da vida

  • Eric Braunn passed away back in 2003. He had tried to put the group back together, but like a lot of old bands, they refused to record. There are some songs of his on the internet. I found a website out there as well with lots of info.

  • psychedelic man !!!!

  • The lead guiter player, Eric Brann, was 17 yrs. old when they recorded this. Wonder what became of him.

  • @italianray69 On July 25, 2003, Erik Brann died of heart failure at the age of 52

  • YES¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ A LIKE¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • wow I am blown away floks music at its best.. I happen to see this group in 2001 the were playing for a motorcycle stsore in Ft Worth Tx on the west side. I just happen to run in to them while I was driving home. The drummer and one more person were the orgnials guy''s left. He did the drum solo man he kick on it. I got to talk to him at the end of the gig.. I told him you kick ass man. He said thanks man glad you guys like it and he said I am getting to dam old for this this..lol

  • This is HEAVY men. Very HEAVY. The definition of HEAVY. Are we considering that fact.... Address that men. Address it as soon as you can. HEAVY

  • dan. been a long time since 1968 or lsd or doin light shows with oils, food colorings, and ovr-head projectors. video did exist but only my romie had the 15,000 for an outfit and the tape reels were 3 inches wide then...

  • i was playing this piece at top volume and i swear the cops waited until this badass joint finished before they asked me to turn the music down

  • Classic, classic.....GREAT

  • Dam! I forgot all about these guys! No wonder so many of the kids I went to school with smoked pot and dropped acid! I remember kids playing this on their desks at school.

They were a San Diego band at one point and there was a weekend or two when if you wanted to listen to AM radio you sat through several playings of the full version. Radio stations really ruined this song for us (and at the same time ruined their own gig by forcing us to come to grips with the superiority of buying albums).

  • @cliffwalkinfool ...Cliff, I lived in San Diego when this band was put together..AM stations usually would play songs no longer than 3 minutes...But...this was a time when FM stations were springing up all over the country and would play long versions of "Underground" music, as we called most of hard rock long version songs back then.Pop Music was starting the switch to FM from AM. ...Peace !

  • these look like nice young boys, i trust they never used illegal drugs.

  • Classic ACID ROCK! Awesome

  • los 17 minutos de mayor éxtasis que puedes tener sin necesidad de peyote

  • Esta canción me empujo a pensar que la música es maravillosa te hace viajar en los recuerdos Joya entre las joyas.

  • best tune ever.

  • DAMN........Godamm doz Butterflies!!!!! Superb, Woooo Hoo!!!!

  • Lo escuché por primera vez en un cassette usado que compré en el colegio. A comienzos de los 70. Duraba lado a lado en el cassette.

  • Those three are from someplace....else

  • BRAVO!! BRAVO!!! What a great video for a one of a kind song. We DESTROYED the speakers of my parent's HiFi Stereo with the song on new years eve!!! Too bad they don't make them like this anymore.

  • like to meet the 3 idiots who disliked this great song!!

  • @MrSweetlouie maybe they are fans of the pussycat dolls... ;)

  • @MrSweetlouie the jonas brothers

  • @MrSweetlouie I wouldn't!

  • @MrSweetlouie They must be lady gaga fans

  • @MrSweetlouie Tone deaf? naw... just kids who had parents that didn't show them what GREAT MUSIC sounds like!!

  • Sorprendente!!!

  • Don't let that hack Kanye hear this, he'll do an entire album of bullshit vocals over this as background and his tone deaf fans will think he created it.

  • @sitarro55555 Amen.

In my trade, the worst insult you can pass on to a fellow worker is HACK. Kanye is beyond HACK. Same is true of his fans that buy his noise and attend his concerts. His fans are tone deaf because HACKS like Kanye can only talk in a monotone.

  • 3 people aint in-a-gadda-da-vida (in the garden of eden)

  • WOW! I didn't know it was a candy apple red Mosrite Ventures guitar after all! I always thought it was a Hallmark Swept-Wing...

  • @garbeaj It now resides in the Dallas Hard Rock Cafe.

  • @eyeque195 Very cool! I will have to swing by and check it out (I get to Dallas fairly often)...The guitar on the album cover appears to be a sunburst Mosrite, but it is entirely possible this red one was used for the recording...

  • ¿Where was this recorded? Not the song, the video I mean...

  • @DhangoMicheli recorded on May 27, 1968, at Ultrasonic Studios in Hempstead, Long Island, New York.

  • to quote B. Mitchell Reed (KMET DJ) ...

    ..."were We Ever So Innocent?"

  • Good remember , it's my hard rock

  • el solo de bateria lo mejor!!! the drums solo the best!!!

  • tiempos aquellos.. lo maximo

  • WOW..... This song will never get old!! They just don't do Music like this anymore.THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!

  • @440gtxblewbyyou how come there are only 100,000 people I think that there should be more. I LOVE IT. I agree all music - well MOST is CRAP.

  • Classic hard rock. One of my favorites. Todays music is CRAP. Eg. take the song JAY Z wrote for his new baby and then listen to what Stevie Wonder wrote for his baby.

  • everybody looked like they were tripping balls in this video, I love it

  • Good Times

  • I have it on my iPod and still listen to it on a regular basis.

The original LP had a much better sound quality - this footage and the digital remaster has been badly mixed and killed with the use of volume limiters.

  • me recuerda mi niñez...increible tema...

  • claasico del rock!!....

  • Timeless Classic!

  • Thanks for great memories of my childhood!!!

  • 53

  • that is sexy

  • The keyboard player (Doug Engle) was indeed drunk and tried to say "In The Garden Of Eden". I got this story from Mike Penerra who was the guy who wrote and sang for Blues Image. He was picked up for the tour as lead guitarist when they headlined with Led Zep. Page used to come out and join him during the long jam and one night Mike heard Page on his left, but soon a third guitarist joined them on stage. Mike opened his eyes and found JImmy Hendrix! He said this was his coolest moment ever!

  • @chazsinger Cool comment... What did Page think of this band ?

  • @dbrinkm1 not much after zeppelin played a gig right before them in 69 i think it was, the crowd were still cheering for zeppelin after they started playing haha, not nice for them but a funny story anyway. im sure he respected what they done tho. page never liked jethro tull, dont blame him either

  • First with eletric drums, coins on the guitar strings...

  • dedo arriva si la cancion la conoses x los simpsons XD

  • this song will never go out of style memory, I remember when was a boy like 7 years old, but so cool.

    Alfredo Perez

    Lima Peru

  • Apprently they where trying to say "In the Garden of Eden" but they where too stoned that they said "In A Gadda Da Vida." Luckily the recording studio loved it any way

  • such an under rated band.

  • Iron Butterfly has an official website...it's a long song--I'm browsing--and I'm sure it does not mean have anything to do with the garden of Eden. Then again, I'm 55...............

  • Simply an eternal milestone in rock history

  • Do you remember what the song was supposed to be??? The guys were so high they couldn't say it ..so it was never known as "In a garden of eden"and yes I am past 50.way past!

  • Wait a minute... this sounds like rock AND/OR roll...

  • @el0chino

    NO SEA pelotudo

  • Amazing drumming, particularly in the solo. Every instrument is well-played. Excellent vocalist. I have 42 yr. old memories of the girl next door opening her living room window while she plinked "Heart and Soul" on the piano--nearly every day. My brother would open up our front window and crank the album version of "In A Gadda Da Vida" up on my dad's stereo while she practiced. She'd quickly slam her window shut, then come over and beat on our door. Such fun... (R.I.P., dear brother.)

  • supposedly they are really saying "in the garden of eden" but they were so messed up on drugs it came out "in a gadda da vida"

  • @theworstenemy903

You are close, the lead singer drank 2 bottles of wine, the producer walked in on him and asked the name of the song. He slurred "Inna gadda davida", was supposed to be "In the garded of Eden".

At least this is what the inside of the cd case said.

  • We used to play this on a loop with speakers on the porch for Halloween. Scared the little kids to death. Great fun.

  • too many drugs man if you got the stamina to play a 17 mins and change song....... that was some GOOD ASS SHIT!!!

  • Hey Marge do you remember how we use to make out to this one XD!!!!!!!

  • ¿De dónde consiguió usted este vídeo?

  • this is my song!

  • One thing I remembered about this song is that it took up the entire b-side on the 33 1/3 LP

  • cool is efect video

  • I've loved this track for 42 years, and will for another 42

  • @mlgretouch ts the meaning of all life 42!!!
