@iaincotty yea, deffinatly to fast gearing down, from 7th gear down to 1st without any transition between the shift, recipe for the engine to blow out lol
I can't believe you're slower than Mark Webber. On F1 2011 I completed Season 1 and finished with 475 Points winning every race! Constructors= Williams- 477 I love Williams they lead me to Victory and winning my first ever Constructors title and Drivers Championship!
The team in the pit should had said be aware the engine has an failure change gear early "short shift" or something like that on the radio. That would have been realistic.
I experienced the same problem in the very first outlap of British GP's Practice session, but I managed to avoid it and thus fool the game, by starting my Practice session with the flying lap (not outlap)! :P
@AshHill07 I've checked with a mate of mine whos a mechanic and I was wrong. Turns out if you're off the clutch and the engine blows it does lock up the wheels.
Fantastic!!! They didn't put that in 2010 and try to compensate with a huge lot of flat tires every race. Now that you can actually get your engine blown up (like in a very few games) real racers will step out of the rest, or you'll just have to use automatic mode.
so, in every vid ive seen of engine failures, they always spin out. why cant they just have a little wiggle and then coast? the spinning out seems a little ridiculous.
I got it looking for a challenge, it can be a difficult game and it isn't just about coming 1st every time, but getting points and sometimes just trying to finish. For me, I got it today and it was defo worth it
@NottinghamForest22 Im a fan of sorts, wouldnt say im a huge fan, but its definitely some good fun, worth your time if you're a fan - one of those games that is worth it more if you're a fan, perhaps less if you've never watched it. So yeah, get it id say
I am a very huge fan of this game. Like Siegefreed said, you can't compete for the win every race. Bit I would recommend the game. I didn't play F1 2010 so I can't compare what it was like.
you're driving way too slowly, being smooth doesnt necessarily win the race, especially when you take the first cicane at melbourne in second gear *facepalm*
why would an engine failure cause the car to spin out? i've never seen that happen..........the car usually slows down and grinds to a halt in real life............
@kc0793 Try downshifting on your bicycle really quickly from gear 6 to 1 at high speeds, and you'll know how much it hurts. An engine works in the same way.
@Master1906 I'm not talking about that. I'm asking why would the car spin out due to an engine failure? An engine failure means the power source of the vehicle dies. It doesnt affect the gearbox, drivetrain, suspension, etc. Why would the car become unstable and spin out in this case?
@kc0793 Let me ask you this question. When an engine dies, it's rpm drops right? Quite rapidly you would imagine? If the engine is still connected to the driveshaft which it most likely is, the rpm of the engine is much lower than the rpm of the wheels so it tries to slow down the wheels which therefore locks the wheels and causes it to spin out the car. You get me? It would be like stepping hard on the brakes but instead using the failing engine.
@KidderAdam Yeah, I wonder why the Stupid Engineer didn't warn! In an older F1 game of 2003 (F1 Challenge 99-02) the engineer tells you "Your engine is overheating! Shift Less!"
Half right mate, if a driver selects a lower gear the ECU will change when the lower gear will give (e.g.) 17.5k rpm. Now if the engine is a bit old, by changing down as early as possible the engine could blow due to the stresses experienced in the downshift to the lower gear that revs the engine to 17.5k rpm, whilst still being under the control of the ECU.
Wait 1 second between each downshift? A reasonable speed of downshift would be about 1.5 seconds from 7th gear all the way to 1st, and 1 second wouldn't be massively fast. He's simply over-revving on pretty much all of his gears at some point and shifting down too many gears (turn one at Australia is 3rd gear not 1st for example). Love that failures are now in, but hope they only occur due to something that's your fault.
@pietrofantastic half a second then... was just trying to give an idea that you should not downshift as fast as you possible can. LOL of course you WOULD come to his defense because you also love to downshift as fast as possible. Im glad the coders of F1 2011 decided to penalize drivers who do not drive realistically. ;)
You are downshifting way too fast for sure. You are also over revving quite often on the upshifts. Try to not ever hit the rev limiter and wait atleast 1 second between downshifts. You won't be quite as quick but you won't be blowing engines!

@rfn95 Everyone, Please Thump up to his comment so Codemasters might spot this.
I will drop this in their F1 game forum, because the developers are actively posting there.
He's right and I want a more realistic F1 game.
Just like: When the race starts, you don't have a chance to warm up your tires, instead you are forced to race without the realistic heating up.
Thanks in advance
