Actually famous Bowie kinfe is derived from Japanese Knive "KEN-nata" or " matagi knife". then Current U.S. military issue KA-BAR knife is derived from Bowie knife. One little lesson for everyone. Parang is when Japanese soldiers went to southeast pacific Japanese soldiers taught natives how to do blacksmith & gave them their own "Nata" to it's native people to help themselves back then.
Is the steel goes all the way to the bottom of the handle? Because that's the one what outdoor people really would like to have. if not you should start to make one & tell them at same time. Thanks
@maxinpains The tang does not extend the full length of the grip, however they are outdoor knives by design. There is no need for a full tang on such knives, though this is grossly over promoted in the west. If you look at working eastern blades such as this japanese hatchet, parangs, goloks, khukuri's, etc. they never have full tangs for a number of reasons. Mainly it is wasteful of material, but also because it lowers the performance by shifting the balance points.
Yes, I do not love parangs, goloks with my opersonal experiences. but most of Japanese hatchet, some khukurs surpass many of south eastern Asian knives .My preference is this type of Japanese nata. Nothing like it. It's just what every knifes suppose to do but this does waay better than normal jobs.
@maxinpains Most true native blades are like that, if you handle an actual working parang and then compare it to a western clone they are totally different. The real working blades are made to cut and will do so exceptionally well, the western copies are made to hammer on, pry, smash etc., they can cut, but require a lot more effort. Using the japanese blades in comparison is like running through a river and suddenly coming out on dry land, everything gets very easy very fast.
I had original Parang. It does it's jobs. but nothing compare to the NATA from Japan. That's like comparing to kid vs adult in100 ft running in olympic game.Japanese knives are superb. exceptionally well made & last a life time if you don't intentionally abuse it.I know the one JEWISH idiot tryied to test Japanese knife under the welding torch which set above the meltingpoint of steels.it melted&This Jewish idiot concluded"it didn't pass our test!" I thought of i was in a mental hospitals....
@3kuluxlan Don't try to blame on Japanese knife makers. They know what they are doing. The Bowie knife is TOTAL COPY from Japanese hunting knives. MATAGI . Have you EVER know that? I don't think so.LOL
