I love the movie because of the NativeAmerican/african characters in the movie, not to mention the beautiful visual effects. people who study cultures or no some things about these two cultures can see how Mr. Cameron intertwined the two. Beautifully done.

No, becaus ET was a little squat quasi-humanoid alien botanist. Neytiri is a 9-foot tall, sexy, golden-eyed, cat-tailed alien female Amazon warrior-woman. Huge difference. Plus the Na'vi could speak better English, having studied it longer.

E.T. could also be seen as a Christ metaphor... I myself really liked Avatar, Cameron is a genius in his own right (visually the movie is unparalleled, up there with the work of Kubrick, Ridley, Malick, etc); how the action can be so complex, lighting fast, yet graceful and coherent blows my mind.

Don't really see the Navi as "extra terrestrials" though... more just Native American/cat like. And people fell in genuine LOVE with E.T.

Whereas the Navi, for me at least, got their sympathy from being victims. As a race, they were too familiar and dare I say cliched to be all that likable (their chanting ritual, swaying back and forth in harmony, was almost repulsive, or laughable). Lastly, I think the majority of the film's emotional pull comes from James Horner's stunning score, which hits all the right notes from every emotional angle.

Anyway, Avatar is a masterpiece, but E.T. will always be closer to my heart.

Me personally, am attracted my the unstilted, and expressive and emotinional and intuitive motions of the Na'Vi in ritual was helping to channel a flow of telluric-energy, and life-force energy. Very simple, yet more advanced than we. use of Natural-energy is essential to most indigenous cultures around the world, if you study anthropology! I love this movie, it replaces STAR WARS, for me, AVATAR is the greatest movie, and the love story is moving, and its very topical. A++

I love Zoe Saldana after STAR TREK (yet another masterpiece from last year), but after seeing Avatar, I want to bond with her for life! TEARS streamded down my face the entire movie.
