What an asshole. Yeah I've had plenty bad exeriences with Greyhound. I wish there was another BETTER way to get around besides this stupid corrupt bus system and flying. If I was not afraid of heights I'd fly, even though I've heard plenty horror stories about what they do to people while checking them in airports. Maybe we humans need to start evolving with our own set of natural wings. Damn. *lol*
I just finished my second (and last) Greyhound trip. I am never giving my traveling money to those assholes ever again. They treat every question like a personal insult, and then treat you like an idiot. They tell you the wrong doors to go to, and take 20 minutes to get coffee during what they said was a FIVE minute break. On my way to PGH, my driver disappeared, and we had to wait 4 hours for the next bus. Screw them.
happened to me too. and recently! the guy left the bus for THREE hours, claiming someone hit the bus, called the cops. for 3 hours, all they did was walk around the bus, "assessing" the damage. some of us got out and looked for ourselves, only to see there WAS no damage!
@TribalEMP What a group of dishonest idiots out there! Even though Amtrak may cost more, it is a lot better. Amtrak is the answer for long distance travel of hundreds of miles!
well, I can somewhat sympathize with the driver. If everyone on the bus is upset and angry and are taking it out on him, he had nothing to do with it. It's not his fault that the other driver didn't show, and he pry got called in. taking out your frustrations on him won't make him sympathetic toward your plight. He was pry just as upset about it as you.
I too had a bad experience at that terminal. I am disabled, was treated with great uncaring. It got worse at connection in Charlottesville. As with you Greyhound ignored my letter.
word of advice, since this happened in roanoke, i can feel your pain, i am from danville, va. If you live in virginia and live anywhere else besides richmond or norfolk/virginia beach you have only 2 south bound buses and 2 north bound buses for the entire state!!! One leave richmond goes to charlottesville lynchburg roanoke and on to knoxville, for us here in my area, it is the same way again leaving richmond then farmville, south boston then danville. 2/3 of the state doesnt get serviced.
I think every major bus company has these type of drivers. A megabus passenger went off at someone who was trying to argue with the driver over not being able to get on that departure despite having a ticket for that departure. I may consider working for either Greyhound or Megabus at some point.
@MrWill1985 I actually witnessed a man having an argument with a Megabus driver over not getting a seat as I got on a Megabus in Boston South Station for a one way trip to NYC (the previous day I took the Amtrak from NYC to Boston). Of course I rather take Amtrak!!
I suspect some of the upset passengers went off at the driver first. Some people do that these days. It even pisses the driver off that a bus was sitting for 3 hours with no driver. And it could be possible this driver is among those Americans who can go off at people when upset. Especially when someone goes off at them. Every employer has those people. And every job has its stressful moments.
look im 12 years old i have never rode the greyhound before but we are going to Orlando Florida and coming from Chicago IL the duration is 31 hours my mom is scared to fly because she was in a plane accident two years back she lived minor cuts and bruses i prey to god no one blows up the bathroom i have a disease called cerefene thath means i have to pee constantly now should we take the grehy hound or the amtrak
@wickedjpan What I would suggest is either drive or Amtrak. I never rode Greyhound until I was 16. And Amtrak when I was 23. And I do take Amtrak frequently and Amtraks service is wonderful.
@MrWill1985 Yes, strongly agreed. Amtrak is a LOT better than driving and Greyhound. Plus, the less you drive, the less risk of unintentional traffic violations and you will pay less for car insurance too. And now the gas prices hovers around $4/gallon so Amtrak is the answer.
@bjsh555 Screaming kids including crying babies and toddlers are extremely annoying. If you really agree with me TAKE THE AMTRAK and go to the quiet car.
@NHRHS2010 whats worse is grown men\women turning on lights and leaving them on all night when people are trying to sleep my first trip was the best and going on to my 3rd trip....*sigh*
@justinismine1994 Yes that's annoying too. Especially on a bus. Which is why it's better to take the plane and train when traveling overnight. With overnight travel, here is how I rank the mode of public transportation
1. Train (especially Amtrak)
2. Airplane
3. Bus (Megabus)
4. Bus (Greyhound)
I've never been on Greyhound before but I heard stories before.
@NHRHS2010 I Agree, there's been a rash of rude bus drivers in the last 10 years before 9/11.One time in las vegas I saw an upset guy who missed the bus to santa ana ,ca and threw a can of soda at the bus.I told Harold, the bus driver at the time of the incident,But he lectured to me to not to interrupt the driver as he said I was being rude. From that point on to santa ana as I left I said in his face,"here's a tip,NEXT TIME I'M TAKING A PLANE!".
@19madmod6960 Yeah, long distance bus drivers tend to be rude. Although commuter buses like Trans Bridge Lines appear to be friendly, Greyhound is not. I was about to get on the Megabus in Boston bound for NYC and the driver had an argument with a passenger who was refused a seat despite buying a ticket. And yes, you learned a valuable lesson. For very long distance of over 400 miles, PLANE is better. For long distance ground transportation, Amtrak is the best option
@NHRHS2010 Thank you for your comment.Although living in southern california, with the exception of amtrak surfliner, the only way to get here and there is by plane.Though, the train would be easy to take where you are at due to the northeast corridor is as better like you said. It's a matter of where you live.
@19madmod6960 Of course, I live in New Jersey and although the US doesn't have a great long distance train system like Europe and East Asia does, the northeast has the best train system in the US. I used to live in Santa Barbara County, California (about a few hour drive on the 101 Freeway) until 1999. Btw, I am a student pilot so once I get my pilot license I can get to my destination (100-500 miles) quicker!
In 1966 when I was 10 years old I was on a Greyhound from Nashville to Chicago. About the time we got to Louisville at 2:00 am the driver threatened to stop the bus at the largest police station he could find and have everybody put in jail. Pretty scary for a little kid. I probably would have been raped in the jail. And it would have all been greyhounds fault.
@Lockbar It is an unfortunate fact that Greyhound drivers still have this kind of behavior. I rather fly or take the Amtrak for such long distance travel. Even though flying wasn't as common back in 1966 and Amtrak didn't exist then, I'm sure there were several decent train lines. Although I wasn't around in the 1960s I am a fan of Beach Boys. You do have a great sense of memory if you can remember something well from 1966.
First of all, why would you all be angry at a replacement driver. He did not do anything wrong. You all should of been upset with the terminal manager. That driver did what he was told to do. If I arrived after being called in to a load of upset people, I would not drive either. First of all its a safety hazard. So stop blaming the replacement driver and blame the people responsible.
From what I can see and hear, it appears the passenger pushed this driver's buttons. All in all, I have found Greyhound drivers to be polite and agreeable when I ride.
