  • Gorgeous! lol

  • What a genius idea of parting like that & washing out the areas that are burning!!! I never would have thought of that!

  • Your hair is absolutely beautiful!!!! I've never seen a black woman with hair like yours. My hair has grown a great deal thanks to weaves!!!! I still find along the front of my scalp & in back it breaks. I will try your technique!! I'd like to know what the texture of your hair is naturally? Honestly, to me it didn't look like you even needed a relaxer. My natural state is a FRO!!!

  • What about showering? i seen on the instructions that you don't need to wash your hair with the products you normally use for at least three days. It's been one day and i wanna wash my hair! can i?

  • Just wanted to Thank You for doing this video!!!

  • I had a question when i was going to do a self perm for the first time, i accidentally poured my shampoo in my creme relaxer, but i quicky poured it out. should i just go bye another one??

  • @PlyKraze If it's the neutralizing shampoo that comes in a kit, then yes. The residue from the shampoo will mess with the strength of the relaxer once you add the activator, and you run the risk of your hair not getting processed as well as it normally would. :-)

  • doesnt it burn you? or start to tingle? mines always does and i beg them to do it quickly so it can be washed out. my hair is fine as well

  • Thanks for this video. You gave me a certain braveness to do it myself at home. Hairdressers were over processing so it only makes sense to me to learn how to do it myself at home. It's a learning process and I only do one section at a time too.

  • what is she? she thinks she knows everything!

  • what is that GArnier Fructos.. 3minute undo??

  • this is my first time puting a relaxer in by myself so should i just have someone help me or should i be fine

  • Thank you for sharing. I'm Mexican and have always been intimidated to relax my hair. With your tips and how to video I have the courage to try...

  • ur really pretty

  • I big Chopped and I'm tempted to relax again ughh

  • @Kieshaleigh oh thanks, I was just wondering cause I've seen so many black women with straight hair and up until now I thought it was their natural hair!

  • Girl u r not suppose 2 do the edges first, thats how they fall out

  • @ashley2o10 I know I was just thinking NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! LOL

  • Do all black women relax their hair?

  • @millyybabess nope

  • @millyybabess No. Some women are natural. Some are texlaxed. Texlaxing is intentionally under processing your hair so that your curl pattern is not as tight as it would be natural.

  • my hair is semi-relaxed so some of my hair is straight but the majority is really curly, should i just relax my whole hair instead? my mum likes to use the cheap brands but i intend buy dr miracle or olive oil - which one is better by the way?

Neec to know by friday please :) im 17 by the way.

  • how long have you been relaxing?? your hair is so long!! m getting there im trying im only 14 though..

  • The base that comes with the relaxer should have gone on your scalp as well. Also vaseline is not the greatest. They sell base for your scalp that washes out better than vaseline. An application brush would be been better for applying your relaxer. There is no need for the sticks. They are not an appropriate implement for applying a relaxer

I cannot apply relaxer to my edges first because that is the most vulnerable hair and it is easiest to damage.

  • Why don't you use a pick tail or fine teeth comb instead of the stick. the comb would last longer.

  • do you use conditioner the same day you perm your hair? or just the neutralizing shampoo?

  • @accordingtolife Her hair was flat ironed, your hair will still have a wave in it after you relax it

  • Your hair is straightened with a flat-iron in this video or is that straightness purely from the past relaxer? Im a dude with multi-racial wavy/curly hair and i wanna relax it but last time i tried it was still curly

  • great job! this video is very informative..Aussie has a 3min moist product that work well.. its makes ur hair so soft!

  • Could you tell us more about the other relaxer you sometimes use (called protectiv)?

  • This was actually very helpful <3 ty. subscribing

  • Can I use african pride-olive miracle relaxer?

  • @thegozi498 for any future relaxers, where you only touch up the roots, make sure that the rest of the hair is covered in conditioner/vaseline/whatever to protect it. even if you only go for the roots, you can never be too careful.

  • So the only time you wash it out is if it burns or not? That makes meh nervous..

  • ARENT YOU ARE SOPOSE TO START FROM THE BAACK?

  • Can u relax your hair if it's straightened with a flat iron ? Or does it have to be in its natural state?

  • I love your video. Some people use a tail comb instead of the sticks and some choose to part it in four, but then again whichever way works for you is best

  • I was wondering instead of using the garnier conditioner that you could use any type of really good conditioner?

  • Comment removed

  • are u suppose to oil your scalp also to protect it from the chemicals?

  • Hi Lauren,, I love your vedios & i want to know if i use "Glatt" to relax my hair will it work? because i couldn't find the relaxer in Sri lanka what u've mentioned..thnx

    WAITING 4 A REPLY :)

  • Thank you so much Lauren! You are the answer to my prairs. I'm fourteen and can't even wear my hair down because of my huge thick and extremely curly hair. Salon prices usually cost too much and this is just fantastic.!:)

  • @ilubB5 Nope. I do it too.

  • Am I the only one that bases their scalp (put the vaseline all over my scalp) before I relax? Everyone on Youtube that I've seen so far just relaxes without basing. That scares me. :S

  • @ilubB5 no ii do it too so it doesnt burn=] xx

  • @ilubB5 Normally u don't have to base your scalp because of the natural oils that your scalp produce which acts as a base and when i get ready to relax i wait a least a week after a shampoo but i would still recommend base the scalp.

  • Do u coat yours ends with any thing like conditioner, oil or grease because i saw that u got a little bit of relaxer on your ends witch can cause breakage so i would recommend it to any one who's doing the relaxer them selves cuz most people are not perfect of keeping it off.

  • Ii just started my job as a beautician and this is a perfect vid 4 mehh 2 be the best.

  • I followed all of the instructions in the video and used Dr.Miracle's Relaxer (but the "Strong" one, since my hair is very thick, poofy, and wavy). After following all the instructions, my hair STILL is poofy. All it did was take out some waves.

Will it damage if I do it again but with Regular not strong relaxer?

  • when you relax it the first time, do you cover your whole hair or what?

  • @PeaceMoneyLoveWeed I relax it when it's dry, it's easier to part that way. Relaxing can definitely damage your hair if you're not careful, but I straighten my hair all the time without a problem!

  • @thegozi498 Just follow the steps in the videos =)

  • Thanks for uploading this!!! It did wonders to my hair :D

  • You&your hair are absolutely beautiful hon, but PLEASE the next time you relax save your edges/hairline for the very last! That's the most sensitive area&fastest to relax. Oh&ummm BOYFRIEND TAG PLEASE Doll!!!! lol! =)

  • use the hair dye brush..it has the rat tail which makes it easier to part the hair and the brush side which makes it easier to apply the product..they come in many sizes..i think it makes the job more time efficient.

    xoxo hhj

  • i love the way you read you disclaimer..beautifull hair, this vid helps!

  • How is her hair sooo silky??... i Dont Understand lOllsZ

  • Instead of leaving over night can't you put a plastic cap on it and sit under the dryer for like half an hour?????

  • @0Candyprincess0 Sure you could, but I don't have a bonnet dryer.

  • @LaurenMechelle Must Must Must invest in one. Saves so much time! Love your video btw. I've been relaxing my hair for years. Wish I had this tutorial way back then. I learned the hard way. :)

  • This is the right way to relax at home for you! the important thing to know with afro hair is that what works for one won't always work for another we all have different hair needs and different types of hair within the afro category. Im not bashing you, I loved the way you did your hair and Im so glad it works for you because many off us take forever to find what works for us. Happy Hair Journey Sweetie! x

  • @TheRuthiena Absolutely right. My hair responds well to relaxing, but not everyone's hair will... that's why strand testing is so important!

  • Geez women go through so hoops for their hair... Makes me feel like a dick that when I'm asked how someone's hair looks I just shrug it off. Would relaxing straighten like... crap, I don't even know my hair type, it's like thin, I guess frizzy? Typical guy, right? I just want to try out new things before I get rid of it.

  • @KageHiRyu Haha yes, girls go through a lot, and not just with hair! You can relax your hair if you want to, just make sure you strand test first to check and see if it will go well with your hair.

  • Im mixed and i have the hardest time trying to find products to use in my hair after styling it or just after done straighting it so it wont curl up when the humidity hits it !

!!HELP ME!!! I WANT IT TO BE PROTECTED BUT YET STILL MOVE!!!!

  • @MixedBeauty15 Try super moisturizing conditioners like Fructis Triple Nutrition or Moroccan Oil Moisture Repair... It will "weigh" your hair down without making it sticky and stiff.

  • Your hair is so long and pretty!

  • @xxsavvysweetxx Thanks!

  • also, why do you guys only put the relaxing on your roots and not your whole hair or head?

  • @BlackRoseDragon14 because it's already relaxed. there is no need to relax already relaxed hair. unless its virgin hair then you put it every where.

  • @TheRuthiena My hair isnt relaxed. I have curly/wavy/frizzy asian hair. And my hair feels like african americans hair type but it does not look like the hair type.

  • @BlackRoseDragon14 Ruthiena wasn't saying that your hair is relaxed, what she meant is that typically when you relax hair, you just do the roots. So when your hair grows, the hair that relaxed moves farther down so that it's eventually at the end. Once you relax a section of your hair, it's permanent and you don't need to do it again, but you do need to relax the new growth the grows at the top of your head.

  • @LaurenMechelle i have wavy/frizzy hair that i want to get rid of and get it to be straight. But i straighten it so it's kinda dead. My hair isnt long. im a boy btw and i only have the top of my head to worry about. would the hair relaxing work?

  • @BlackRoseDragon14 Doesn't matter if you're a girl or a guy, hair is hair =) Relaxing it will remove the frizz and wave, and you wouldn't need to straighten as much or with as much heat... just make sure you do a strand test first!

  • so cute, why am i watching this? sigh!

  • @gabriox2good lol thanks?

  • I LOVE garnier fruties triple nutrition conditioner. It makes your soo soft. The best i ever bought

  • @KickLemonz Ahhhhhmazing, right!

  • I have never used a relaxer of any sort on my hair, and i wanna make sure this is the right choice for me. Would you really recommend relaxing? D: the only problem is, i don't want my hair falling out. also, why dont you put it on all of your hair? how is the rest going to get straight?

  • @MrNikooruchan The rest of my hair got straight because as I keep relaxing my roots, my hair keeps growing, so eventually the hair that was at the top of my head is now at the end. Make sense? I don't put relaxer all over my hair because I don't need to, it has already been relaxed when it was growing at my roots. Once you relax your hair, it's permanent. I love the results I get from relaxing because it make my hair much more manageable, and I just like how it looks.

  • I have a question. Do relaxers actually straighten hair or do they simply relax the curl of the hair? I have short hair, and I want to have it spiky straight....would a relaxer help me do that?

  • @yahiaaboushadi Technically they relax the curl of your hair, but they're strong and I don't think that's what you're looking for... look for either a mild relaxer (maybe a kids' version?) or a texturizer... like maybe the kind guys use to get waves.

  • @LaurenMechelle what do you mean they're strong? Do you mean they straighten hair too much? I've had Japanese hair straightening for about 5 years now...but I'm looking to do a straightening procedure at home.

  • Did you comb your hair after you shampooed with the neutralizing product? Would you suggest combing before putting in the garnier treatment?

  • @MsRosaFloyd I don't comb at all during the washing stage... If your hair gets tangled easily I guess you could, but I just shampoo, rinse, squeeze out excess water, then apply the garnier.

  • You're hair is beautiful!!!! Are you African American on both sides?

  • @CALALAMILA Thanks =) I am, but check out the FAQs page on my website for the full answer

  • You look just like Rudy from the Cosby Show :)

  • @MsHardtocatch Haha thanks!

  • @twigbass what do you recommend to use after a protein treatment that leaves hair dry? I was asking about the 3 minute undo dryness treatment that was used in this video because I already have it in stock...do you think that would work?

  • your hair is long and healthy looking..how did u get it that long? ive been dying to have long hair and i believe my hair relaxer is the cause of this! i must be doing it wrong.

  • @mererocks79 Check out my Hair journey/regimen video.. I talk allllll about it!

  • Hi I'm trying to find a product that will help undo dryness after a protein treatment! Do you think the Garnier Frutuis 3 minute undo will work?

  • @GlitterallyPINK after any protein treatment, you need to deep condition or use a moisturizing conditioner

  • @GlitterallyPINK I would absolutely give it a try... let me know how it goes!

  • A relaxer isn't subject to only be used by one race lol why would they put Spanish instructions as well as English? (It's a joke people)

But to the point I have a white cousin with corse really curly hair and she relaxes it all the time & now her hair is wavy & more manageable , you just have to know how to do it right, for the first time just go to a professional to be safe.

    Great vid!

  • @Maliarianna I agree that relaxers aren't for use by a specific race of people... it's more for specific types of hair!

  • Not every neutraling Shampoo is best for washing out any relaxer, and your tutorial is nice but I don't think that your method of applying a relaxer is best for all people, or anyone besides yourself. Using your hand to comb in a relaxer is not a good idea.

  • @BrownSugaLady86 … I don't understand where this comes from… You never said why using your hands isn't a good idea. I used the neutralizing shampoo that came with the kit, meaning that it's meant to be used with the relaxer.

  • @LaurenMechelle. I know you used the neutralizing with the kit. However, you mentioned that if there isn't a neutralizing with the relaxer (b/c some relaxers come free standing) that there are a lot of brands to use (not verbatim), I was just adding that if that is the situation then you have to read the instructions on the back b/c Motions Neutralizing shampoo isn't good with all relaxers ( I know from experience). The Isoplus brand works well with all kinds and it says that on the container.

  • Comment removed

  • @LaurenMechelle Also, scratching the scalp could cause scalp infection and/or irritation with the chemical

  • @BrownSugaLady86 If my method doesn't work for you, by all means don't use it.

  • @LaurenMechelle Oh trust me I won't. I only listen to professionals, but do you if it works but don't try to teach the wrong thing.

  • relaxing my hair for the first time later today. your video really helped :)

  • @freesocks226 Thanks! Good luck =)

  • great tips! i just relaxed my hair this morning, and it worked great. but what the instructions dont say is what to do after. can u tell me how i should wash my hair and what to use. and after today, when should be the next time i relax my hair? please respond, id appreciate it. thanx(:

  • @AskingAlexandria630 After I relax, I wash with the neutralizing shampoo, then put the garnier fructis on. After that, I rinse my hair and blowdry it using the method shown in the DIY Blowout video! I relax every 4-6 weeks, but I think most people do it every 8-10

  • this will be my first time relaxing on my own , and i really appreciate your step by step instruction. It helped me a lot , I was afraid to do it before but now that i know , I'll go for it (in a few weeks)

    Thanks Girl (:

  • @EmpressYanii Yay!! Congrats =)

  • It would probably be easier if u used a relaxer brush instead of the popsicle sticks...plus it's a one time purchase.

  • @jasmine2g3 Yeah… I never really liked those… i don't see how you could really smooth the hair with a brush… How do you use it?

  • This video, and the first one too, was really helpful, i have really thick hair, and all my at home relaxers never come out right, but srating in the front makes way more sence to me since thats the part that matters the most to me, thank you so much u saved me so much money.

P.S. Can you do some tutorials ways to apply make-up, im a natural girl, but loves to experiment with colors. Thanks again

  • @aliciabellwhite No problem, glad I could help! Makeup tutorials are coming up, as soon as I get some free time =)

  • Your videos (this one and the one that came before it) REALLY helped me out. I modified your method by using a wooden spoon/spatula, so I didn't have to throw it away as it didn't soften with use, I neutralized it when I was done and will be using it again next time.

    Thanks so much! :)

  • @foxychickisi Nice! I'm glad you found something that works for you, congrats =)

  • No, she cant thats why they have flat irons, thats all she needs and some serum.

  • @fionarab2cute4u Not sure what this means…

  • @LaurenMechelle It doesn't matter. Just know that fully white people CAN NOT have a relaxer.

  • @fionarab2cute4u are you stupid? anyone with a coarse hair texture can get a relaxer moron.

  • it didnt really look like you needed a relaxer

  • @iAlex326 Trust me =) If I don't, it'll take double the time to style it… no fun!

  • Just great!! many thanks for your help ^_^, I was scare to relax it my self, but thanks to you I try and I love it, thanks again

  • @pathy1822 No problem! Happy I could help!

  • i clicked this because your hot lol

  • @actionlary lol thanks

  • I'm going to try this method in a few days, but I was wondering; did you straighten/blowdry your hair straight prior to applying the relaxer? It looks really smooth and I was planning on just applying the product to my still-kinky hair. Should I have it straight for better results?

  • @StormingViperX The only reason I applied it on straight hair was because that's how it was from the last time I styled it… I've also applied it to air-dried (curly) hair, and got great results.

  • I just want to thank u. I have had hairdressers damage my hair or it has fallen out from sickness. I did exactly as you said in the first and second video and it came out as smooth as yours. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you taking the time. Take care.

  • @blessed2do No problem, I'm so happy that you are able to do it yourself, rather than subjecting yourself to hairdressers that may/may not know what they're doing!

  • Thanks this helps out a lot =) Do you mind me asking how you maintain your hair?

  • @01JessicaS Check out my hir journey and DIY blowout videos on my channel, that's how I do my hair =)

  • @01JessicaS Thank You

  • If you go to a beauty supply store they have hair spatulas made of plastic, hair sticks made of plastic and hair brushes; all normally a dollar or two, not that much money. Also I have used doctor miracle and it does make your hair feel like straw, that’s why I switched to soft and beautiful regular. It really was a big change. You have a really good technique just some suggestions.

  • @crotzamke THAT IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA!!!! I'll have to find those, because that makes so much more sense than popsicle sticks lolol

  • At what age do you switch to ADULT relaxer ?? im 12 :) && i dont put in relaxer myself(: and how long is perm suppose to take if you havent had it in for about 8-10 weeks ??

  • @Racheya7 it takes me about 30-45 to do mine, that doesn't include parting my hair before or rinsing it out after.

  • At what age do you switch to ADULT relaxer ?? im 12 :) && i dont put in relaxer myself(:

  • @Racheya7 I don't know if there's a particular age… I know that adult relaxers are stronger than kids' relaxers are, so it may be that if you don't get good results with a kids' relaxer, you might have to try a stronger one… but ask whoever applies your relaxer first!

  • omg ur a life saver. my best friend just got her hair relaxed regularly and it came out dry and stilll curly looking. but when i did it with ur tips it came out smooth and silky thank you so friggin much!

  • @idonetherewetmyself I'm so happy to hear that you had good results, congrats =)

  • If i am white, and i am wondering if this product is safe for my hair. I have thick, super kinky, curly frizzy hair.

  • @emmakates100 Everyone's hair is different... A sure-fire way to find out is to do a strand test... Test out the relaxer on a small piece of hair near the back of your head, where it won't be seen.

  • @emmakates100 If you are saying that you're caucasian it will NOT work . You cannot put a relaxer in your hair it will take it ALL out . DO NOT TRY IT .

  • @fionarab2cute4u she can try it because i have friends that do it to their hair. Her hair wont fall out. She just needs a really gentle or normal relaxer. Not like a super or extra strength. Just a normal gentle relaxer should do.

  • @TheSekcredz I agree… strand test first! If it works, go ahead and try it!

  • @fionarab2cute4u It's true that some people have hair that doesn't mix with relaxers, but to say that every Caucasian person that tries to relax their hair will end up losing it just isn't true… Strand test first, and see if the relaxer is compatible.

  • @emmakates100 you can try it because i have white friends that do it to their hair. Just do a strand test with a gentle relaxer NOT an extra strength just a gentle one.

  • Instead of using all those Popsicle sticks why not just use a rat tail comb. You can use the tail to part and you can smooth using the back of the comb. Just for future referance :)

  • @TheSekcredz Hey, I tried using a rat tail comb, I just didn't like how the teeth would press into my hand when I held it… popsicle sticks are just more comfortable for me =)

  • Your hair is just so perfect ! Shiny and long !! how is your real hair? curly, frizzy ? Does this relaxer damage hair? and does your hair keep growing ? thanks for the tutorial !! take care

  • @kamarlight Thanks =). I'm not sure I understand what you mean by my "real" hair... Do you mean what is it like when it air dries? Or are you asking what my natural texture was before I started relaxing?

  • @LaurenMechelle well yeah i mean what your natural texture is :) ? mine is quite curly frizzy and i straighten them with a flat iron but relaxe hair seems to be soo coool !! i mean what a gain of time !! thanks for answering thoug :)

  • @kamarlight If I let it air-dry, it can get HUGE! It gets frizzy pretty easily, and there's a mix of curls and and waves. Any relaxer will damage hair if you apply it incorrectly, but with this method, I get great results! And yeah, my hair grows pretty quickly

  • Is it a must to use all of the relaxerr?

  • @chloepemberton03 Absolutely not.... I usually always have some left in the jar when I'm done... Just throw the excess out =)

  • u hav enice skin.and dont mind the girls saying "DONT DO THIS DONT DO THAT" TRUST me u have nicer hair than them regardless..

    and u have nice skin......wtflol

  • @h0llywh0 You're a sweetheart! I think people are afraid of things that are different… Especially when I'm telling them that it's OK to relax regularly, use lots of heat regularly, not use hair oils, and not wrap… It goes against a lot of what they learned growing up lol.

  • did u do it wit clean hair or it doesn't affect the results? its the fist time doing it at home

  • @CHARLIN92 My hair was 3-4 days dirty when I did this… I don' ever do it on clean hair, because I'd have to wash & blowdry it just to relax and wash it again… I just do it the night I was going to wash it anyway

  • Your hair is so beautiful why do you perm it

  • @msfashionlover17 because she wants to.. dang.

  • @msfashionlover17 It reduces styling time by a lotttt… and I like my hair relaxed =)

  • hey lauren michelle... your hair is gorgeous.. how long would you say you keep the relaxer in your hair from start to finish?

  • @blackberry815 Hmmm… It takes me about 30 minutes from start to finish… maybe 45. That said, I rinse out the sections as I go so they don't overprocess.

  • Um. What is the moisturizing stuff that you used? I dont think I heard you mention the actual name..

  • @PrettyyBeautyyxoxo garner fructis 3 minute undo dryness reversal treatment

  • I like your method. Thanks for sharing.
