IM NO EXPERT! But the Stroke seat is hugely drawing in to his lap. Notice how his blade doesn't stay in the water for the full stroke? and how he doesn't tap down (His oar is being pulled out of the water not being tapped) Oars in the water longer = longer stroke = more meters each stroke= going faster!
100% agreed. One, these kids commenting on technique are probably all crew fags with 7:00 2ks, and would literally get anal raped by any Cornell lightweight. Two, unless you were on the 1996 Dutch 8, you have no right to be commenting on the technique boats this fast.
Oh ummm, nice rowing, but I have to say at 0:30:11 2 seats blade is 3/8 of an inch higher....SHUT UP YOU LIFT ZERO WEIGHTS
The Ferry Man's Finish if you haven't heard of it is when your arms are comming into the finish and your done pulling with your back, start using the handle to pull yourself back up towards the stern so you get maximum acceleration and the boat runs out very nicely.
I just have 2 things that could improve them just that tiny bit more that would make them go even faster.I have no idea if the coach posted this or not but here they are:
1) They need to get quicker catches. You can acomplish this by having a little break in the arms when going up the slide and then extend the arms completely and release all pressure on the handles at the catch. This will reduce the catch in the boat to little or none.
2)Try using the "Ferry Man's Finish" ill explain in next cmt
hahaha, watching this got my heart racing sooo fast. if I had any critique there was alot of bobbing in the bow (the deck diggs into the water a bit too much). While that seems like an asshole comment, I promise I'm not trolling, the Cal Bears lost to washington in 2008 or 09 because they weren't controlling their weight at the finish. Awesome piece though!
Getting weight off the bows immediately by really fast hands and bodies over from the finish, picking up the boat before the stern dips, driving the boat out of the water on leg drive....truly a great piece of rowing!! A that rating as well!!.......Amazing!! Acceleration on leg drive is superb!
If I was being at all critical I would say Stroke is snatching at the catch a little compared to others and using shoulders too much...no wonder he's quite big!
In addition...the hard catches and aggressive front end being displayed by this eight make all the sense in the world. They're rowing with CII Fat2s - the heaviest and most grippy oars on the market. Engaging the load as quickly as possible allows a crew to utilize them properly.
This isn't incorrect; it's simply one approach to this variable. And as their record will show...it works.
The fact of the matter is that Cornell is the only lightweight program in the country to have captured the national championship three times in a row to date. This is the crew from the second year.
People who know rowing very well will tell you that there is no truly correct way to row. There is simply the way that works best for a particular crew, or in this case a team. Stylistic differences don't separate winners and losers...the quality of execution does.
@GregHuismans OOORRR i appreciate good rowing , Maybe only talentless Bores try and put other people down, I'm no olympian but i row in New Zealand and came second at the Maadi Camps so i like to think i can comment and complement other crews because only a rower knows how much works goes into having a good on water session !! Just chill bro , there was no need for that ae !!
@theSculler my tuppence worth! The boat is bouncing in the desirable direction. They are lifting the boat out the water on the drive. If you look at the stern it does not dip in the water. They're picking it up before driving the legs which at their rating is simply excellent rowing! Their fast hands and bodies off the back allow a controlled slide ratio which mean their not slamming into the front. I would like to see a better piece of rowing at their rating from any crew.
they need a long time for getting their blades into the water and the boat is bouncing badly- but they row as a unite - just together - and THAT`s what is important at rowing
@matdiemupfel if you look at the LM2X from the sydney or athens olympics in heats and/or finals, they win every race very comfortably despite the fact that there boat bounces. I think its characteristic of a very strong lightweight crew personally.
@SharathCK actually your wrong. when a boat bounces to much, it means their rushing the catch. you dont want the boat to bounce because then water is touching more of the shells surface at one point, which causes more drag, which cause the boat to go slower. please coach Princeton's crew so we can beat them next spring.
@poiuy0174 i wouldn't say that boat is bouncing too much. the goal is to make the bouncing smooth. it shows connection: your weight is off the seat on the drive - you're pushing hard. during the finish your weight "returns" to the seat and the boat goes down a fractional amount. if you watch the olympic scullers its more obvious to see.
@poiuy0174 my tuppence worth! The boat is bouncing in the desirable direction. They are lifting the boat out the water on the drive. If you look at the stern it does not dip in the water. They're picking it up before driving the legs which at their rating is simply excellent rowing!
@banana12455 Actually, to all the haters out there, if you mean an Oct then they're illegal for anything above J14 because they're too fast and you can't get insured. If you mean an VIII then only due to river regulations....
Their check is pretty bad in here. You'll need to fix that check with faster hands and slow recovery. Seems like you're not doing very well, but pretty fast. Good job
(continued from comment below) and if you listen closely, the coxswain is calling out their splits from the speedcoach of a 1:19 and then a 1:18, when there at a 36, thats a great amount of pulling pressure....i can only imagine what that split is at during the sprint . IDC what anyone says there are fast and flying!!
they are clearing puddles by over a foot when their rating is at 41 or 42 during their sprint. If you can do that you are flying and you will go faster than the launch. And the launch doesnt go fast anyway bc it doesnt need to. these crews go an average of just under 15 mph, so why would you need a fast launch? lol
@EllTarrant, yeah but into a head wind O_o o_O. And prob going upstream since the splits are read at 1:19/1:18. Clearing the puddles well during the sprint. They're moving well.
@legraudal Are you talking about the lunge from properly times catches that have a pretty amazing amount of power? That boat seems like it clicks pretty damn well. You must've never rowed in a good boat before because fast boats actually do "jump".
why would anyone dislike this?!
