@tristanmartel Mmm let me explain it. Like almost 8 years ago, two guys covered the song skyscraper but it was a piano version. Perhaps I didn't express myself the correct way. What I wanted to say was that the piano version from skyscraper from those guys appeared first than the piano version from Greg G. Not that Greg did cover his own version :) I wanted to express, also, that he took too much time for doing this. :)
You are using beliefs and rumors to antagonize each other. Beliefs are misused that way, and that's how terrorists would often justify their actions, and that is completely immoral. You both are using each other to confirm an illogical premise, which does not increase your ethic. Why can't you both just settle down and enjoy, respect, and revere the song and its message?
I think the problem here is that people believe too firmly in their beliefs. The big atheist critics often view religion as a diversion from logic (which is completely wrong), and some Christians/Muslims/Buddhists (not all) would use their beliefs to antagonize people they don't like or deny some of the possibilities in the world (i.e. Human evolution, death leading to no afterlife, etc.). I myself am roughly agnostic, and I believe any belief is fine, but it isn't a justification for anything.
@brocklee3 atheists aren't the ones going around criticizing everybody, blame the cynics and critics. if they just so happen to be atheist, whatever its irrelevant.
've just been reading these comments here. I find them hilarious, if a little saddening. I've been listening to Bad Religion for 15 years now. It amazes me how much there message and philosophy has been misunderstood. The message Greg Graffin is trying to get there is not that faith in a higher power is bad, but that atheists and the faithful alike are both after the same basic thing, a better understanding of their own lives.
Guys! Being a fan of Bad Religion doesn't mean hating Demi Lovato. You are allowed to support Bad Religion without bashing Demi. Both of them sound great! Enjoy the music!
The song tries to depict the story of how people from all over the world came together to build the Tower of Babel so they can climb their way to Heaven. However, God made everyone there speak different languages so they wouldn't understand each other.
However, the singer is WRONG about the "revenge" God sought!!! I think God did what he did so that ANYONE wouldn't be able to get into Heaven. Heaven is a privilege and must be earned; not a place where any "unwashed" person can just walk into.
@BrockLee3 Im starting to get really tired of you religious fags. When are you guys going to grow up? I hate to start a religious debate on an irrelevant youtube video but the church's stupidity and ignorance makes me angry.
There is no god, or gods. It is physically impossible.
What's the matter? Did I make too much sense for you?
The song and almost everything the Bad Religion does is about GOD and RELIGION you atheist moron. Hence the name "Bad Religion."
Also, I'm not with ANY church; I don't believe any major Religion. I have my own Religion and I will never push it on anyone. Unlike you atheist pieces of shit who go around trying to offend EVERYONE who doesn't agree with you. You people are WORSE than ANY Religious fag ever.
You atheists prove me right EVERYTIME. You get offended when people talk about Religion; yet, atheists make up less than 2% of the population. You're the minority and you want EVERYONE to do as YOU want? Does that make sense to you?
I don't like pork or pigs at all. Would it be right if I went into every restaurant, farm or store and told them to quit with pork products because it offends me? NO! I just don't buy/eat/deal with pork products.
@BrockLee3 Actually, I'm not american, so your statistic is irrelevant. Also, my earlier statement still stands. Finally, please get rid of your clichés about american atheists, it's tiring to see you spread your ignorance online.
I don't care what you are; you're STILL an atheist and STILL a minority no matter what country you are from or live. Therefore, my statistic is STILL relevant.
Your earlier statement only stands as a testament to me being right about atheists. All you do is go around criticizing everyone who doesn't agree with you.
Also, the most beautiful thing about cliches as well as stereotypes is that they are so damn accurate. In fact, that's how they become cliches and stereotypes.
LOFL! Where the hell did that come from? Is that the best you got? Seriously?
Tell you what...read my FIRST comment about what this video is all about. I wasn't looking for a fight with ANYONE! I was merely pointing out something that was incorrect. And what happened? One of you atheist pieces-of-shit jumped in and called me names FOR NO REASON! Then ANOTHER atheist piece-of-shit jumped in and did the EXACT SAME THING!
So, the cliches about atheists are COMPLETELY TRUE!
@BrockLee3 Oi. im atheist. enough of the cliche shit. im a very nice person, as are all the other atheists i know. you got 2 ass wholes ranting on you because they like masturbating to your anger. your judging an entire belief (or non belief) on 2 dumb asses? just ignore them. its the fucking internet, that is going to happen. your no better than them.
WOW!!! You are the FIRST atheist I have EVER met that hasn't resorted to name calling or other bullshit towards my thoughts or beliefs; the FIRST atheist to actually argue in a civilized manner; and I am happy to meet you (I really mean that). Thank you!
I don't care what people believe or don't believe. I will be happy if respect is shared between the people (which is rare).
I made one comment about the song with some of my thoughts and I got name-called; I just retaliated.
10 years later, on the anniversary of 9/11, this song offers an open perspective to many people from that day. While I understand this was not written for that specific reason, I can't help but find myself thinking about it whenever I hear this.
@AugustSixProductions Well, the people that attacked on 9/11 did so because they thought God wanted them too, and this song is about God taking out the tower of Babel so its similar I guess.
@captainpunkrock69 Yea I see what you're talking about, it was the lines of the first verse which actually stuck to me. When we started building skyscrapers, the world almost made a sort of competition out of it. Our Twin Towers were the tallest towers we had, so it makes me think of the line "and climb so we can reach, anything we may propose, anything at all" with the chorus following right after. Idk, guess its great music can be interpreted so many ways =D
@PrankCallFan845 piano is also an acoustic instrument, acoustic means it's not electrically amplified, it can be acoustic guitars, piano, sax, even drums... whatever
As of right now I can say that this is by far one of the best songs (and the best version) I've heard in my life. Makes me feel sad and somehow uplifted at the same time. Strange. And so good.
for a band I have listened to for 20 years, im surprised this song is just now getting around.. always been my fave since I heard it.. its from the album recipe for hate. cop it if you dont have it.. dont pray on me, my poor friend me, and kerosene are also classics from this album.
@thalazt More than likely, it's because of Streetlight Manifesto and their recent cover album. It's what brought me here, as well as many others, I'm sure.
@thalazt i was not aware it was on recipe for hate, years ago when i owned all the albums i never heard this till today. its fantastic tho and i love that album, kerosene was my fav song back then :)
I came here for the Streetlight Manifesto's cover, I was specting some kind of speeder and agressive version of bad religion for their punk style but it was a good surprise to find that it's a very melancholic yet beautiful version
There are 2 clear idiots in this world. These 2 people would be the ones who disliked this. Bad Religion's acoustic songs are always as good as the originals
@djkells3 Basically, it is the band's philosophy and outlook. Also, some people think that because the band is called Bad Religion, they are atheists. This is not the case. Graffin himself is a naturalist, which is quite a bit different that a full-blown atheist. The band uses religion as a metaphor for anything that doesn't allow an individual's freedom to think or express themselves in the way they choose. It's more about anti-conformity, than anti-religion. Hope this helps.
@Rjmorg no. i gladly would have given them more. i support bad religion all i can! i have three t-shirts and i wear them everywhere. i just have to get patches and then ill be all set. ^^
Saw them live at Rebellion, they were meant to play just an hour, but were the last band playing, and played much much longer, was incredible... Rebellion isn't a very big place, whatever stage they were to play on, they'd be almost touchable, haha. Truely fantastic, love them.
I wonder how Brett can write a song as perfectly beautiful as this one, yet write "Kerosene" on the same album. They could have done without that one IMO. Anyway, LOVE this version of the song.

@infantdrugmule Isn't everything "mainstream" these days like that? I have yet to hear a new "popular" song that isn't in AABA or rondo form.
And Jazz is ALL ABOUT the structure and form. Plop out a 12 bar blues. It's got a very specific format, but it's readily accessible. Jazz itself is descended from the work songs of the slaves, with some cuban and creole influences.
That being said, I really, really enjoy Bad Religion's acoustic recordings.
Oh... That explains about everything, because Atlantic Records kind of have an Draconian Copyright law...
And Epitaph... Well, it's Epitaph and it belongs to the Singer... And they are still a punk band, so they don't hunt down everybody that posts it on YouTube...
@xrosakossa there is no acoustic guitar. Typically an "Acoustic" version of a punk song is played on acoustic guitar(s). I agree with @jacobpmark, this is a piano rendition rather than an acoustic version. You don't go around calling every piano song an acoustic song.
@pacohaas not many things irritate me but your comment was one. maybe one day you'll understand that this piano didn't have any electricity running through it which='s acoustic
@xrosakossa A guitar is a stringed instrument, when you plug it into electrical devices to amplify its sound, it is an electric guitar, when you remove the electronics, suddenly the guitar becomes acoustic. The same principle applies to a piano, if its an electronic keyboard, okay, its not acoustic, however if played on a grand piano, theres nothing electric about it, and is raw acoustic sounds.
Define: Acoustic: of or relating to the science of acoustics; "acoustic properties of a hall"
@jacobpmark You DO know that the piano is an acoustic instrument, right? I mean, yeah, there are electric grands, and of course there are keyboards that can closely mimic the presence of a piano...but I'm pretty sure this is a real piano. An acoustic grand, I'd say from the sound.
does anyone know why the original skyscraper isn't allowed on youtube? does this have something to do with copyright, like a different producer for the album? cause they took recipe for hate off itunes like 6 months ago
Greg please come to Barcelona, if you can come to dinner at my house, I prepared a lasagna with spinach and meat with a good wine. we love you Greg. I swear

you spelled skyscraper wrong lol but it's still a awesome song
benorgirgle 2 years ago 3
Oh... That explains about everything, because Atlantic Records kind of have an Draconian Copyright law...
And Epitaph... Well, it's Epitaph and it belongs to the Singer... And they are still a punk band, so they don't hunt down everybody that posts it on YouTube...

why is it called acoustic version? its on piano? still though...effing amazing rendition of an effing amazing song...effing
jacobpmark 2 years ago
becouse its still acoustic?
xrosakossa 2 years ago 59
is because the piano is an acoustic instrument
Roymontanastudios 1 year ago
@xrosakossa there is no acoustic guitar. Typically an "Acoustic" version of a punk song is played on acoustic guitar(s). I agree with @jacobpmark, this is a piano rendition rather than an acoustic version. You don't go around calling every piano song an acoustic song.
pacohaas 1 year ago
@pacohaas Guitars aren't the only acoustic instruments...
CrinkleCutBeatroot 1 year ago
@pacohaas not many things irritate me but your comment was one. maybe one day you'll understand that this piano didn't have any electricity running through it which='s acoustic
Brixtones 1 year ago
@Brixtones I totally agree and back you up. Kids need to get educated.
YourLostCarKeys 1 year ago
@pacohaas Yes you would. Because acustic is the same as "non-electric".
TRiToX91 1 year ago
@xrosakossa A guitar is a stringed instrument, when you plug it into electrical devices to amplify its sound, it is an electric guitar, when you remove the electronics, suddenly the guitar becomes acoustic. The same principle applies to a piano, if its an electronic keyboard, okay, its not acoustic, however if played on a grand piano, theres nothing electric about it, and is raw acoustic sounds.
Define: Acoustic: of or relating to the science of acoustics; "acoustic properties of a hall"
slurik 1 year ago
you do realize, piano is acoustic right? ahaha not just a guitar can be acoustic ;)

wiislotmaker 1 year ago
@jacobpmark i didn't notice that everyone already answered that question.. haha
wiislotmaker 1 year ago
@jacobpmark because a piano is an acoustic instrument.
thesousabone 1 year ago
@jacobpmark Pianos are still considered "acoustic"...
Assuming they aren't electric pianos, of course.
MrWally417 1 year ago
pianos are acoustic
madcal33 1 year ago
@jacobpmark-- it's acoustic, not a cappella
chubchaser69 1 year ago
@jacobpmark because a piano still hits strings to make the sound. if it was a keyboard that wouldnt be accoustic.
paulleonard47 1 year ago
@jacobpmark I'm sure you've gotten plenty of replies such as this, but I think you might be confused as to what acoustic means
sweeetrevenga 1 year ago
@sweeetrevenga
acoustic: Of or being an instrument that does not produce or enhance sound electronically
...IT IS ACOUSTIC
congregante 1 year ago
@congregante I Know it's acoustic, I was saying Jacobpmark was uninformed.
sweeetrevenga 1 year ago
@jacobpmark a piano is an acoustic instrument. Acoustic meaning: is'nt electrically amplified.
DrDarbyDavis 1 year ago
@jacobpmark You DO know that the piano is an acoustic instrument, right? I mean, yeah, there are electric grands, and of course there are keyboards that can closely mimic the presence of a piano...but I'm pretty sure this is a real piano. An acoustic grand, I'd say from the sound.
thebigsmuz 1 year ago
@jacobpmark a piano is an acoustic string instrument.

does anyone know why the original skyscraper isn't allowed on youtube? does this have something to do with copyright, like a different producer for the album? cause they took recipe for hate off itunes like 6 months ago

Amazing....I absolutely adore BR. They have the lyrics, voices, harmonies, melodies... I'm grateful for them speaking their minds about social and environmental injustice the way they've been doing for 30 years.
