Its time city councils around NZ stopped being obsessed with human culture. A first step might be chopping down all the ugly introduced trees that are on council land for decorative purposes and replacing them with native trees.

The difference in 2010 is that cars are very cheap in NZ because of Japanese imports. Anybody can buy a fast car in NZ if they want to. In 1982 it cost $5000 to buy a Datsun 1200 with 140,000 km on it. Which means its almost stuffed because of the high ks on it. Slow car in a straight line that one.
catching a bus sucks. i never do that. i remember catching one for school last yr. i nearly cried. i waited in the freezing cold for about 40 mins because it came at difrent periods. the bus sucks, it takes the longest ruit to school. nobody talks. its lame. so i like driveing because its stright there stright back.
I used to catch a train and there was plenty of talking on that. Being in a traffic jam sucks. Riding a nice light road bike is a fast way to get around but NZ drivers aren't that good in some of the big cities.

In spring in Wanaka if you see a car doing 40kph its rush hour, but I haven't been there for a few years so maybe its changed. Walking up and down Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers is also very cool but you need a guide or some skills to do that.
Here i was think i was enjoying living in a small corner of the world, largely unaffected by industrialization, avoiding involvment in wars, surrounded by incredible beaches and scenery. Yet still with all the convenience of a modern developed country...
Hanging out with relaxed people who would rather have a bbq and a beer on the beach than go around invading countries. Who would rather just enjoy their life rather than get involved in religious zealotry and needless bullshit.

Seriously though, coming from the UK, you guys aren't "as rich" financially as the average Brit, but you more than make up for it. The lack of population density (barring Auckland) the more laid back attitude, being tucked away from the madness of the rest of humanity is a blessing as well as a curse. But mainly a blessing. :D I bloody love this country, my folks moved there in 02. Have been there three times myself. :)

driveing age: 15, is so low because in some parts in New Zealand like the south island is very seperated, i mean 1/3 of the population lives in one city. So driving is nessasary to be honest, but the police catch the idiots with the loud engines! New Zealand is so great. Ive never had christmas at 30 degrees before!

I'll watch next time to see if its a teenager causing the accident on the road. 15yr olds driveing in new zealand isnt a problem, because its difficult to get you're restricted and you have to actaully know how to drive. Don't comfuse the wanna be thugs with the loud engins at midnight and boy racers with the inocent who just want to arrive at an desination. The thugs get there car gone anyways so dont worry.

I drove well before I was 15 and I know how crazy 15 years olds can be when they get their license. The guy down the street hit a power pole within a week of getting his license.
The difference in 2010 is that cars are very cheap in NZ because of Japanese imports. Anybody can buy a fast car in NZ if they want to. In 1982 it cost $5000 to buy a Datsun 1200 with 140,000 km on it. Which means its almost stuffed because of the high ks on it. Slow car in a straight line that one.

catching a bus sucks. i never do that. i remember catching one for school last yr. i nearly cried. i waited in the freezing cold for about 40 mins because it came at difrent periods. the bus sucks, it takes the longest ruit to school. nobody talks. its lame. so i like driveing because its stright there stright back.

I used to catch a train and there was plenty of talking on that. Being in a traffic jam sucks. Riding a nice light road bike is a fast way to get around but NZ drivers aren't that good in some of the big cities.

No i agree, auckland drivers are crazy. I sit in the traffic on the harbour bridge. sucks.

I used walk to the train, catch a bus, then walk home because my mother used to turn up too late and I couldn't be bothered waiting. Then I started running home because walking took too long. The next year I was asked to join the cross country team because running home got me fit. You can pay to go to a gym or save money having a workout getting where you are going to. You could ride a bike to the train station if you can find a safe way to get there.

I moved here from Canada in 1981. It's just FABULOUS! So peaceful. The cops don't even carry guns (yet). We have armed police for when we need them though but you don't see them packing on the street.
And the place is so green. The grapevines in my backyard are laden with unripe fruit right now as we head into summer for Christmas.
We are a nuclear free country so the Yank warships aren't allowed in because they have a "neither confirm not deny" policy regarding whether they have nukes.

And yes, SupberhGee, some parts of South Auckland are nice, with the diverse cultures mingled into societie. But some of the stabbing and shooting etc going on in some parts down there some people might not be as attracted to it as they should.

In spring in Wanaka if you see a car doing 40kph its rush hour, but I haven't been there for a few years so maybe its changed. Walking up and down Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers is also very cool but you need a guide or some skills to do that.

Here i was think i was enjoying living in a small corner of the world, largely unaffected by industrialization, avoiding involvment in wars, surrounded by incredible beaches and scenery. Yet still with all the convenience of a modern developed country...
Hanging out with relaxed people who would rather have a bbq and a beer on the beach than go around invading countries. Who would rather just enjoy their life rather than get involved in religious zealotry and needless bullshit.
