  • Hi Larry. I am running FCP7 and I seem to have trouble finding my Final Cut Pro user preference files. They're nonexistent. I followed the steps you showed in finding them, but they do not appear in my preferences folder. I've also done a search on my hard drive for any of these files and they don't come up at all. I'm on OSX 10.7.2. Would you have any idea as to why I can't find them? The reason why I'm trying to delete my preferences is because I'm having issues in multiclip editing. TY

  • Hi Larry, Thanks so much for concise professional communications. Very helpful.

You're are now officially my first go to when in trouble.

One other thought. Can you speak to the upcoming removal of final cut from the apple family. We're looking to you to help bridge the gap via your direction.

  • @mattsegriff Apple is not abandoning Final Cut. Have you read something that leads you to believe otherwise? If so, please send me a link to the article. Many thanks!

  • Sorry Larry, I just finishing watching your video. The library in Lion became visible after entering the following command to Terminal : chflags nohidden ~/Library/

anyway I trashed the preferences and my "Unable to initialize video deck" issue continues. I did this after having latest software updates.... don't know what to do next

  • @gacho123 See my response below. Let me know if you need more help.

  • Thank you very much. I'm having the "Unable to initialize video deck..." problem while trying to capture from my PD150 DV camera. I'm running fcp7 on OS 10.7, and I can't find the folder "library" to begin with. Any suggestions? Thank you

  • @gacho123 This error message means that FCP can't communicate with the deck using Firewire. Go to Final Cut Pro > Sequence Settings > Deck Control and change the protocol to FireWire Basic. That should fix it. If not, try other deck control protocols until FCP can control the deck.

  • always great advise

  • Larry we learned final cut from you and got certified! You need to make a video on trashing preferences in Lion. Also you can not do multi clip editing in final cut pro x.

  • @ronjohnston7 Thanks for your kind words. Agreed, we can't do multicam editing in FCP X - however Apple has already announced that the next update, coming early in 2012, will have this feature. As for a video tutorial on trashing FCP X preferences in Lion - I've written an article that covers this, because it is easier to read than to watch, in this case: "FCP X: Improving Performance" I'd post a URL, but YouTube won't let me. You can find it on my website.

  • Thanks Larry,...

  • thanks for considering us older FCP users Larry......interesting tutorial...I have a few problems and mine crashes when I try to log and transfer 720p 50. Not sure if it is because my FCP is still number 6 but it now doesn't like 720p 25 ... recon i should do this preference trash?

  • @trailerfitter2 Absolutely, yes. Whenever FCP USED to do something and now it DOESN'T do something, that's a clear indication that preference files are corrupted. If you were able to capture 720p/25 and now you can't, trashing preferences is the first step.

YouTube doesn't allow me to write URLs, but you can find more on your issue by going to the LarryJordan webpage and then typing /trouble/

    Larry
