No it was not banned (not in the UK at least). The dog had been trained to shake. The ad creators had a vet's letter and it was certified as fine.

I remember this ad. It was funny! i can relate to the dog. I know I have a good voice, but for some weird reason, I can't sing good in front of people. I'm too scared to, which is weird since I act in theatre.

thats the whole idea, the dog doesn't feel safe when he's not in the car. hence, he's only confident to sing in the car - the message & moral for the advert (check end of ad - "Polo-confidence")

the shaking is just a way of showing he is not confident when not in the car, alongside the mumbling singing outside the car.

this was not in any way cruelty to the dog. how they manage to get the dog to shake is another matter. however it does not give the message of cruelty

I don't know how it was trained. But it was, the advert producers had a vet certificate and that was the end of it. It was not banned in the UK

I just went back a comment page and read SpankMyToaster and he said it was done by putting him on a vibrating plate. I just thought I should copy and paste that just in case people who watched this were upset and thougt the dog was abussed (286 people thought so) and didn't go back a page and read how it was done.

My dad always sings this song, he got it from this advert and also sings it beacuse we've also got a jack russell named Percy. It's really sad that they banned it. Of course they didn't do anything cruel to it (actually, it's never been said how they made him shiver). I am obviously a dog lover. They probably make him a little cold but so what he's fine, he probably get's a dog biscuit after takes like they did with the PG Tips Chimps.
