Hello everyone, Ive started a new Channel up as some things have changed..we got rid of the old bull and replaced her with a shiny new Thrush 510-P. Yes,yes its a crying shame but hey..we still have a 600 Thrush with a geared 1340. So all is not lost. Im making a point to get more videos up of spraying and put the footage of last summer up. Be sure to check in on my new channel.
Second thought: you didn't dare operate the Viper 1200 without the speed ring. Without it, would shake terribly in the turns, with one, it would out turn a turbine. The Viper 1200 with its rag tail and 400-gallon hopper didn't have the extra weight of the Bull and its dual cockpit and 500-gallon hopper, just adding to the thrill... I've seen where it would take off into the wind, full hopper and fuel shorter than it could turn around and land empty, downwind. -Bill
Sure brings back many memories. I, too, like ag2a320, owned a Viper 1200 in the last 1980s, 1975 model. Sold it Dudley Beek in Jamaica. Went back 10 years later and flew it in Jamaica for kicks. He had added extended wings. Why? I can't imagine! I used to pull alongside a 1978 Turbo Thrush with a PT6A-34, wave and walk off and leave it. Nothing like it with such raw horsepower. -Bill Lavender
Owned 2 Bull Thrushes ( S/n 033 & 035DC) and 3 Viper S-2R1200's. Flown all of the S-2 series and nothing performs like a R-1820 powered Thrush. We still have our first Viper in storage can bear to part with it. Since switched to -34 400gal. If you think a Factory Bull's a Beast. Strap a 400 gal 1425 HP Servo-Aero Viper 1200. Still miss the sound and power of a 23E50 Prop and 1820-76 pulling 45HG and flowing 125 Gals at full take-off power.
wow that is awesome everytime i see any spray plane in general I get chills but this bastard is just amazing I am hoping to fly one of these someday but moneys a little short to get a license right now
Very nice, man. You should keep them coming once this beast starts working. There was a couple of Bull Thrush planes here in South Africa too, but they also were changed to turbine engine, because of the long time it takes for these engines to warm up and apart from that you have to top up the oil also each time the plane come for a refill. But this aerie is such a beaut, you must keep this engine in it. I like these 3 blade prop on the radials. Thanks for the vid. And man, that thing performs!!
