  • i eraced my network name and password in connections and now i cant use the web can anyone help

  • Im thinking about getting this phone, however, im not sure, i like it but i want to know more about the wifi, is it free to connect your phone to wifi or does it charge you credit, and is there a facebook and msn app already downloaded onto it? Thanks :)

  • hi,

I have an Omnia II, and I have the same problems you had with the Omnia I: when connected to a Wi-Fi net, it uses GPRS insted of using the Wi-Fi itself. I tried using the instructions you gave, but the icons and the menus are not the same so I end up getting lost.

Do you know how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance!

  • @overxxx Hi yes we have seen the same issue in the Omnia II and in fact we found the solution - as you said its different from the above fix. Sadly without the device in front of us its difficult to guide you, but its in your settings option that is for sure, but if memory serves me its under a slightly different name. Try looking under Application settings or Networks. Sorry we can't help more than this, but the option is in there someplace!

  • can you answer for me please, what is the point of connecting to a Wi-Fi? what can you do, that you cannot do when wi-fi is off?

  • @kimodizzle The main benefit of connecting to your Wi-Fi is that it is normally faster than your mobile download speeds, plus if you are downloading large files it won't zap your mobile data usage (which is normally set at a certain limit). Also if you don't have a data contract, it will be the only way of connecting to the internet & performing downloads on your phone.

  • @Crowdedbrain when i press the wifi button instead of saying on the circle loader thing goes on then nothing

  • cheers mate, i just reset my fone after a year or so of use and forgot how to do this.

  • shitty angle to record a cellphone at. fail.

  • Hello!I watched your video but i would like to know is if i have to pay anything for using the Opera Mobile. Thanks!

  • Hi, Opera Mobile comes with the phone as standard. The only thing you would pay for is the data used to download content. Of course this differs depending on the mobile contract you have. Or if you are using Wi-Fi then you would have the costs for your ISP/Wi-Fi- Hot Spots if roaming.

  • @Crowdedbrain

help where can i find 3G settings? i ahve omnia 2

  • @adspie Hi normally the Omnia II mobile network detection is set to Auto, so if you are not picking up 3G it is probably due to the fact that you are in a weak signal area. If you press on Start and go to settings, look in the Network section and it should be set to Auto.

  • @Crowdedbrain

I just bought omnia 2 yesterday and I'd to know how to make my wifi at home default instead of the 3G ??!! as every time I go out or shut down the phone, I have to rewrite a long password which I don't memorize !!!

IF u can help me with that I'd be grateful.

I've lots of other questions but I don't want to bother u too much :D :D

  • @euyooo is your isp verizon

  • is this also 3G from verizon?

  • yes.

  • I don't wanna be paying extra for the internet and I know if I use my wi-fi it's free (except for the ISP that I pay) I just wanna make sure I know that im using WI-FI and not the kind of mobile internet that makes me pay extra every month. So just to get this straight, to go on WI-FI I simply have to touch the WI-FI on button on the wireless widget and go on Opera browser and I am connected to the internet with my wi-fi? or do I have to pay extra on my monthly bill. REPLY BACK PLEASE ANYONE

  • Download a program called NoData at Modaco. It exactly whay you wanted.

  • Hey if you use this wifi, will it charge you for going on the web

  • Of course at home you will be paying for your ISP anyway, all the Wi-Fi does is tap into your existing connection. Outside in the Public space it depends on the hotspot, some offer free Wireless others don't. Do a Google search for the free Wi-Fi hotspots in your area.

  • COOL Man...this is exactly what I wanted to know...so if I get this phone from Telus and only get a one year contract, I will be able to use the wifi internet later without paying for it to telus? I mean in hot spots like you just said or at home? I was going to get an archos mp3 player to get the wifi on it but there is no camera on that or phone.....

  • You will still need to pay for your home broadband, Wi-Fi is just another means of connecting to it.

A lot of Hotspots are free of charge, but some will charge for this, like I said above, Google search for free Hotspots in your area.

  • yeah, I will always pay and keep my internet at home, but it wont cost me more than what I pay now unless I bust the monthly limit . I wanted this phone but the 3 yr contract scared me, not sure I need the internet everywhere at 45$ and more a month so I could just get it to have the phone service on it and use the wifi when it's possible only. Thanks again.

  • hello guyz i have recently bought samsung omnia i900 well i can brows into the internet but i cant check out youtube videos through my mobile well can some body give me some tips i will be very thankful

  • Hey sory im just continuing to be more clear on my last comment i would like you to give me these steps in writing if you could please because id ont want any hidden costs when i buy the phone so i can turn all network to my carrier all data off and just use the wi-fi for data while im in my house and using the internet

    thanks

    luke

  • The best way to ensure that you are not using your sim data is to go to the connection manager and disable the phone option.

But if you click on the link under the more info column to the top right of the YouTube menu layout you will find the steps you require for the Wi-Fi fix..

  • if u disable the phone option can u still recieve message and call ?

  • If you could still recieve messages and calls, then what would the button be there for? Use your head.

  • Hey,

I have a question im thinking of getting a samsung omnia and the chances are i will get one since i cant see the video clearly because of the angle could you please send me the Steps in which to do this before i purchase so i dont find huge hidden costs. thank you very much!

    Luke

  • couldnt you just cancel the data plan and use the wi-fi on this phone?

  • No, it's a smartphone. You must have a data plan.

  • For those that this doesn't work for... I found a fix that helped me.

When in Wireless Manager settings, tab over to Network Adapters and change it to NE2000 compatible Ethernet driver.

  • thanks for it..

  • ok ic...thank you for ur information:D

  • wat if my router is nt secured?do i still ned the code?and if im in wireless hotspot lye macdonald,do i also ned a code to connect using wifi?

  • If your router is not secure for Wi-Fi usage then you can get people tapping into your internet connection on a whim! As for Wi-Fi hotspots this all depends on the place, some may enforce security, so you may have to ask for the key when purchasing your food or a small fee maybe required to use the connection. Google search for free Wi-Fi hotspots in your area and also research into Wi-Fi security for your own router.

  • btw when i use automatically detect settings, it also uses GPRS

  • It would do as your Wi-Fi connection is not setup. In answer to your first question, the code is the security password - WEP or WPA key. Without this you can not connect to a secure router. Ask whoever setup the router for this key or if you have a BT Home hub it may be written down in the manual.

  • cos my friend said u ned a code or something be4 u connect wifi to internet....so hw bout in mac?Mine is nt working becos when i on wifi and have my wireless router on, i still cant access internet. Not the problem about GPRS,so i ned help on this

  • can u post a video and show wat is ur setting for connection?

  • Soz we don't have the device anymore to post any more vids. Maybe we can help if you can explain what you are after in a bit more detail?

  • thx man,it is working

  • i mean 3G

  • thanx ... if the £G doesnt pop up or any other logo at the top (otha than the Wifi logo of course) does it mean your juz on Wi Fi

  • thanx =D

  • thanks

  • Hi try this....

With your Samsung connected to the Wi-Fi Router.

Go into settings and the look for an icon called Wi-Fi.

In there click on the Network Adapters tab and check that the "My network card connects to:" drop down is set to Internet and not Work. Click OK to save the changes.

  • hi...when you activate the web browser and you go to the website...will it search for access points or ask what connection will be used??it will be a big help thankzz...

  • The above fix is just a setting to tell the browser to detect the active connection, so in other words you will need to have your Wi-Fi connection setup before hand.

Setting up a connection to a Wi-Fi router is easy as long as you have the essential info to hand, such as the Wireless password.

Windows mobile will automatically detect the closest Wi-Fi router or hotspot and you can then run through a wizard to connect.

  • ive done what you told us but it still says that i need gprs to connect

  • Hi I am assuming your are trying to connect to your web browser?

Anyways when it has the automatic setting turned on it will sense if the Wi-Fi connection has internet access before connecting.

So if the Wi-Fi is not picking up connectivity it will default back to your GPRS connection instead.

One way to check that your Wi-Fi has internet access is to try and download a podcast, as this does not rely on your web browser.

Let us know what the outcome is.

  • oooo... thanks for the help :) i changed the connect via thingy to 'the internet' and it doesnt conenct to gprs anymore.. anyway, dont you think the omnia has very little battery life? i used it for like a day or two and i gotta recharge again.. lol.

  • This may not work now, but the best way to improve life is to charge the phone when you first get it for at least 12 hours.

Or let the battery run completely flat and charge it again for longer periods, this can build up battery strength.

Most people charge their phones a few minutes at a time, which tends to give you a false battery reading.

Anyways a day or two is standard for a battery of the OMNIA's size. It's actually pretty good considering you have a 3.2" screen and hefty features.

  • hi there.

thanks for putting this solution on youtube. However, I still face the same problem. I tried to go into youtube in my omnia and when i tried opening a video, it still uses my GPRS instead of the wi-fi... i did the "automatically detect settings" thing already. Nonetheless once again, thanks for posting.

  • Hi, more than likely its your Wi-Fi router blocking the ports used by YouTube.

The same problem happens on other phones to.

For Youtube which is going to be using the Streaming player (found under programs).

Go into the latter and head for "menu" then "options" and in there you should find connect via (or something like that).

Select the Internet connection or the one that your Wi-Fi is using (Internet or Work are the standard options).

  • Then you will need to open a few ports inside your Wi-Fi router, we think the port range is

    6970 to 32000.

Though you can set a lower number so 6970 to 6990 may do the trick.

Then your Wi-Fi router will allow YouTube to pass through to the Samsung.

  • thanks :)

do you know how to change the theme to black or something like that.. thanks :_)

  • Go to start and then settings.

In there look for the "Theme" and "Today" icons and you should be able to customise your device.

  • Now when you use your browser it will detect the Wi-Fi and use this instead of your GPRS connection.

Hopefully this will help those who are plagued with this problem.

  • 1. Essentially all you need to do is click on the Start button, then head to Settings.

    2. Inside the settings option click on the conneciton tab at the base of the screen and then look for an icon that says Browser Connections (this is at the top right part of the list of icons).

    3. Select this and then add a tick in the box next to where it says "Automatically detect settings" - click ok (top right corner) to save the setting.

  • However the solution to this problem is very straight forward, you won't need to mess about with any complex connection settings as the solution is right under the settings option............

  • During our current testing of the Samsung OMNIA we came across a problem with regards to Wi-Fi connectivity. If you enable Wi-Fi and connect to a wireless router, by default the Samsung would still try to use your GPRS connection for web browsing.

So even if you turned off the phone (thinking this would stop the problem) and then tried to connect using Wi-Fi again, it would still come up with a Network error.
