I gotta say..the most interesting man in this band is the handsome bass player, Tom Gray. This was a hobby for him. He was a cartographer for National Geographic. Probably better known for being in the Seldom Scene. Now there was an interesting group =)
haha i think its really funny how everyone else is wearing a suit but john duffie has some rediculous outfit on him. the more videos i watch of him on youtube the more upset i am that i never got a chance to see him perform
Besides a praise song-could there be a more perfect song? This should speak to many people who slave away while thiers lives are passing them by. There's work but then there is greed.........
My grandfather too was a coal miner in east KY. He mined from the time he was 17 till he retired to provide for his family and it ended up taking his beautiful singing voice and ruining his lungs. God bless him and all his co workers past and present. That profession to a MAN to do and and special one at that. Love you Papa.
This has always been one of my favorite songs by The Country Gentlemen, but this live version is just awesome. The slower pace makes it so much more meaningful. God bless our coal miners.
Great music powerfull stuff.. an a really foine likin woman in white at count 0;49 sittin wi hur sister rare an hauntin beauty aye rare an hauntin beauty!!
My father was a coal miner in Drift, Kentucky. I always vowed to never work in the mines. It takes a special breed of people to go deep into the bowels of the earth to mine the deep coal seams.
@whozis2 It is a horrid life.Few occupations are as deadly.Dungeons are probably better places than coal mines.Any man who lusts for the mine as claimed are masochists.
DARK AS A DUNGEON ------- Being a coal miner's son, the song "Dark As A Dungeon" always runs chills up my spine.--- It tells young men to listen to this song, and not to seek their fortune in a dreary coal mine My dad, Clarence Paul Martz, Sr. was an engineer.---- Often referred to the inside of a mine as the "bowels of the earth," ----- I was born in the mining town of Lykens Pennsylvania, and delivered at Harrisburg Pennsylvania.

That convo is sooo utube. robertkzz and mlsrm23, separated by time and distance, can relive a common experience in a nightclub nearly half century ago. Long live utube.
JeKoolJ: Greatest of the Great: In my opinion one of the most popular, influential, and important bluegrass bands to ever grace a stage or record a song.
Charlie is sadly missed but how comforting knowing a realm of angels will be able to enjoy his beautiful baritone voice.
It has been thrilling for me to be able to say that I saw all these players in person at one time or another and I certainly miss Charlie and Duffey, their voices really blended.
That's the late, great, John Duffy, he may wear what ever pants he wants. RIP.

Merle is folk. Merle is rock 'n' roll. Merle is western swing. Merle is early honky tonk and post rockabilly West Coast sound. What ISN'T Merle?
The Country Gentlemen?...so nice and sweet to the ears too.
