  • It seems like only yesterday i was coming home from school and putting this on. It came with a rubber star and a mask :) ace days

  • This almost bought a tear to my eye...

    The memories...

LN2 was the best of the three and the entire game soundtrack was truly something special.

Games today just don't have the same soul.

  • this ''song'' and the central park ingame ''song'' are one of the greatest songs ever.....At least in games anyways

  • I used to play metal in my teens - it's only in my thirties I started realising that some tunes I played were directly derived from Last Ninja! It's my greatest musical influence, if not because of the actual tunes, then it is because of the 'feel'. Used the word 'greatest' already, but nonetheless it is the most fitting for this tune.

  • The then 1987 annoying load bit is now already nostalgic memories for many, how times fly!

  • I just loved the wait to load a game. You had to wait, and you were rewarded.

  • The Last Ninja 2 from Commodore 64 = THE BEST VERSION!!!

  • Last Ninja 2: Back with a Vengeance: Commodore 64 (1988)

One of the best games ever made . System 3 was the best game developer in that time

  • wow those were the days now its just follow the one game that sells the most no creativity at all from the developers. they even used up all the sound channels so its only music in game no sound effects:)

  • who is the 1 retard who pressed the dislike button?

  • I remember when I got this game for Christmas. When it finally loaded, and that PHAT bass note hits...I think I peed my tiny pants in excitement.

  • #WIN

  • damn. this gives goosebumps everytime.

  • This is from the tape not disk, i'll never forget that loading screen... first time i ever played this was on tape at a friend's house. Later when i finally got this game myself, it was on disk.

  • Damn, I've been thru C-64,Amiga 500, NES, SNES, N-64, XBOX and XBOX-360.... but when I heard this music it just took me back to the glory days of 1989... my Commodore 64, playing Cricket on Sundays, and sleepovers with my mate where we'd stay up till early morning playing games like this :)

  • how do you load this into youtube

  • @kriskrisuk

    you press shift+run stop

  • @thepts

    Then press play on Tape

  • These games havnt aged too well but my nuts they weere good back in the day!!!!!!!!

  • I just love the fat bass the C64 can produce. Very unique sound.

  • @albedoshader

It's because of the SID Chip, with 3 programable channels.

There are even synths that are made incorporating the SID Chip..

  • @Pervypriest: I know, I did sound programming on the C=64 myself, back in 1987 or so. I still have my C=64 and it's working fine :)

I also know the SIDstation and other SID chip synth projects. :)

It's still much fun emulating the characteristic SID sounds on my Korg Prophecy.

  • @albedoshader That is soo cool, I am in the learning process of using the goattracker.. My dream is to be able to make my own grovy SID Tunes, when I can afford it, I will get my self a hardSID..

Yes I have also two C64 machines around, the one doesn't work.. So it will need to donate it's 6581 chip for the hardsid I want to buy...

  • Very cool to see and hear this again.. Loading could take for ever on C64, having nice art and sweet music made it a whole lot more bearable. In this case it waiting was pure entertainment :)

  • 1 dislike? probably accidentally clicked the thumbs down due to retro nostalgic nerves.

i will assume its a 100% thumbs up vid

    quality

  • When I was playing this great game I was 2 years old, I can't remember everything but the sountrack still in my head forever...

  • @hellfyrez

that's the idea, this music is so distinctive that it will register permanently in your brain until you die, but probably keep going after that too...

i remember the nights loading this up and blasting the music full volume, couldn't care less what the neighbours thought! (they prob enjoyed it as much as me anyways)

  • @viciouswhips haha your comm make me laugh :) I don't care about the neighbour they enjoyed Last ninja music hehe

in the past when I was listening or playing this game, I got tiny speakers... so can't play very loud ^^ to annoy neighbouring ^^

  • chooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon =) =) =)

  • all 3 last ninja games had the best c64 music. i loved r-type's title music also.

  • Cheese and Rice! The memories that tune evokes are something quite surreal. Love it. Hands down my favourite game of all time on any platform. Happy innocent days. Took me I think about maybe 2 years to complete Last Ninja 2, only because Zapp magazine provided a walkthrough! Outstanding work Sir :)

  • ♥

  • great, dragonfroce use this as an intro in their gigs

  • do they, honestly? thats cool :D

  • Holy ****! I didn't know that!

  • Very interesting: 6min to load LN on tape.

    Thanks

  • Timeless is all I can say!

  • WOW! When that first note hits, it takes me right back. Sooooo Cool!!!

Ah, the good old days. :D

  • it´s now available for wii virtual console :)

  • Unfortunately, Nintendo Power didn't think it was too good.

Which is a shame, because newcomers to the game might not pick it up.

  • Things were so hard to find in this game, most of them I found by chance, but If you go to the bushes by the juggler who is throwing bricks at you, you can find a dildo......Why the hell did they put that in a ninja game?????

  • @chickenleg2 hey, Kunoichi want to have fun too :P

  • yeaaahhh the music sounds good and the game was amazing!

  • bravo!

1988 repeated and i do recall the days well.

    LN1 + LN2 will never be forgotten.

Amazing game with outstanding unforgettable music.

    That SID chip... so underrated.

The tape loading up.. kids these days will never know the pain and the joy of it all!!!

  • Its like today, switch on pc, go make drink while it boots. Back in them days I used to get a drink or some snacks while the game loaded,

Creatures, if ever I wanted to use the infinate life cheat, I could eat my dinner before the music stopped so to enable that cheat lol,

  • Great music.

  • Armakuni looks like Patrick Stewart...

  • zakonnn... brings back memory and nostalgia kicks... :)

  • it's great to see this again.

    5/5

  • So awesome. : D

  • still those goose bumps

  • Memories.... Thanks So Much! Taking Me Back On A Journey. How It Was, The Best Game On The C64!

  • I remember buying this when it came out (late`88)and being slightly disappointed that there was no Ninja mask and Ninja Star in the box (as was supposed to be according the advertisments). Oh well...

But I also remember the trembling anticipation as it loaded...Cyberload went OK..Phew! Flashing box in the corner of the screen...

Then the awesome loading music kicks in. Wow! Here we go! This was the big daddy of C64 games.

  • QUALITY

  • oooooo myyyyyy goooooooddddddd

a wanna a movie inspired from this videogames

    it'd be AWESOME!!!

  • @teknomaya

Look at American Ninja with Dudikoff.

  • what a game and great music i loved this game when i was a kid

  • I remember back in the days playing this game. It took me weeks to complete. Thanks for posting this. This game was way ahead of its time. The music was unbelievable.

  • This brings back so many memories. Last Ninja 2 - greatest game ever.

  • God this brings back some memories. Great game, great music. Damn, wish I still had a working C64 with this. :)

  • It's not quite the same but you can easily download this and an emulator now. A word of warning though. Some games are best left in the memory. In my memory LN2 was almost perfect but playing it today highlights just how clumsy and infuriating the control scheme was for jumping across those rivers! Still it was fantastic back then :)

  • Yeah but the imagination/gameplay surpasses most games of today imo, which is probably the most important thing.

Its all about the graphics these days sadly enough.

  • Well that's not entirely true! And it's funny how people gave my last comment the thumbs down because I criticised the gameplay of these old classics! But believe me I was there in the days of the C64 and it's given me great memories but the fact is we're spoiled these days! We complain if a game only takes 8 hours to complete yet LN2 could be done in less than 2! My favourites were Stunt Car Racer and IK+ but really these look very shallow compared to what we have today

  • Thats not entirely true either!

LN2 needed a lot of plays before you could even beat it!

I doubt anyone managed to beat it the first time they played it, unless maybe theyre a genius or something!

Games were generally harder back then, so yiyd really get a lot of playtime from them.

The fact you couldnt save your progress alone made them harder!

  • Yeah ok fair point. But once cracked it's do-able in under 2 hours. You got far less content for your money so they made up for it by being difficult. And back then we accepted it because it was all we could get. But I don't agree when you said games had more imagination or better gameplay. The player needed imagination to enjoy the game perhaps but really most game had very simple ideas and I'd say you need to far more imagination and ideas to make a decent game now.

  • You have to remember that in those days, there wasnt gigabytes of storage, hence shorter games.

The amount you can store on a tape was extremely limited, and the last ninja series, being fairly graphic intensive games for the time, limited the amount of levels that could be stored.

And i still do believe that too much emphasis is put into graphics with most games these days, not all, just generally.

LN2 reaks of imagination from the developers imo.

  • Haha! Well of course I understand that! And the fact they could make games like this run in 64k is nothing short of incredible IMO but I still think that this was a stand out game in a sea of mediocrity and in that sense nothing has really changed. For every great game on the C64 there were 20 awful platformers or Shoot em ups. We get some brilliantly imaginative games and many mediocre ones today but it's games like LN2 that inspired me to work in the games industry.

  • Jumpin to the boat island took enough lives... running away from those goddamn bees... : )

  • and alot of the time its really hard to work out what to do... i mean going into the girls toilets to pick a half of a numchuck, that sounds like you would really take ages to figure that out. or mabye where the ninja stars were? they were in a box, i would never have guessed it. games today have too many walkthroughs as you go along i.e "go and pick up the map located on your radar".

  • Wonder what the girls had been using it for? (re: latest comment about a dildo lol).

I agree though, games now are much easier, not all, just a majority of them.

  • "We complain if a game only takes 8 hours to complete yet LN2 could be done in less than 2!"

But LN2 is so difficult that I never made it more than halfway through the game.

  • So who was the Ninja in the Sword Shop?

  • lol good question

  • I think it was Kunitoki's bastard love child!

  • that was me.

  • EPIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!11111111

    \o/

  • Dude... you made my day : D

  • thanx a lot for the music...it wakes a lot of memories....*g*

  • Brilliant music, C64 games and music. Even now puts todays consoles to shame!

  • DAMN!!! Those were times!!! I LOVED LN2...had original ;) Watchin this bring memories back...when I first time saw this game I thought I saw a miracle :D One of the BEST games EVER and 4EVER !!!!! Like Kickstart, Paperboy, etc.

  • Hey I remember paperboy - that was a cool game! Trying to throw the papers in the mail boxes.

  • Awesome!

  • Brings back memories. Love the music on this game, thanks for posting it!!!

  • Fantastic. Music is well ahead of it's time. Spent many hours of my youth playing this game. Thanks for posting this.

  • nice song.

  • Thanks, thanks, thanks !!! :-)

Could you make an MP3 of this fantastic music ?

    Thanks in advance !!!

  • Go to Lemon 64 Last Ninja Archives (Google it)... people in the music section have been re-working the tunes for years... this guy Putzi's particularly good at it...
