  • back then every time there was a much, the ring had bloodin the middle and written in the middle was "dick was here"

  • loved it when he used to tag team with the crusha

  • He was the guy who gave Ray Heenan the name BOB or BOBBY. And even gave him a shot at 'managing' when a guy didn't show up one night. The rest is history

  • Dick Bruiser? lol sounds a bit abrasive..Anyone with a name like that will have even the convicts in prison hiding in thier cells Dick Bruiser and his side kick Ball buster

  • I grew up in Chicago and remember many nights hanging out with my dad watching Dick the Bruiser wrestle on TV. Even his voice scared the crap out of me!

  • One of the great "old school" legends of wrestling. If you grew up in the Midwest, everyone knew of Dick the Bruiser. He was a local legend for years. There's a great story that all of the locals tell about the Bruiser. After a show, a bunch of the wrestlers were at a local bar and there was a drunk who was talking trash to Afflis, saying that wrestling was fake. After Dick told him to cool it or "else", the drunk didn't stop and Afflis KO'd him with one punch and returned to his beer.

  • Great song choice for this video.

  • Love that shot at 1:20 where he acknowleges the crowd and the people cheer him on. A TRUE legend

  • SInce I'm based in NYC, I never got the chance to watch or see this legend. Always heard about his tough & dangerous matches. Remembered hearing about him tearing up Alex Karras, for real.

Thanks for posting & getting a chance to watch an icon; he should be in the WWE HALL OF FAME....if that means anything.

  • @TheVirajster Was that the fight at the Detroit bar in 1963? Fred Blassie wrote about it on pages 113-114 of his book, but didn't say who if anybody got the better of it, just that they wrecked the place and pummeled a couple of observers who happened to get too close.

  • @00RockyAngel00

yep...that was the infamous brawl Bruiser had with Karras. Remembered it when it happened....

  • one of the greatest...another heel like the road warriors who got such a following that he became one of the biggest faces ask sammartino after his wwf days....THE ONE THE ONLY ROWDY RICHARD !!!!!!!!

  • Only Dick the Bruiser could get away with menacing a poodle. He was terrific.

  • Dick Afflis was a tough guy when tough meant everything. Three generations of wrestlers later has not produce a more tenacious personality.

  • This guy is real wrestler, WWE sucks.

  • Dick the Bruiser's WWA was the very first promotion that I ever watched in Chicago on WCIU Channel 26 in 1968! It was the best promotion til this day! When Wrestling was a blast to watch!

  • @HemiVic I watched WWA in the 70s and early 80s on channel 55 in Milwaukee WI.

  • @HemiVic I remember watching Ox Baker and Pepper Gomez when I lived back in Chicago until '76.

  • hes a legend hes the greatest wrestler in the world

  • Awesome Wrestler, And an Awesome person to know.

  • @loveasainpeople raymond heenan called him the worst human being he ever met, i guess you didn't know him well lol

  • Where's the audio?????

  • That was an awsome quote by Jack Brickhouse; "there are two kinds of people, those who watch wrestling, and those who don't admit it".

  • I got shoved down by Dick in Peru, Indiana. Some kid punched at him from the stands as he was leaving. He turned around and saw me, and thought I did it. I was about12 at the time. He acted like he was gonna punch me, but shoved me causing about 10 people to fall down. He wrestled someone named Wilber Synder that night.

  • @dkw12002 You also got shoved down by Cole Porter and Kyle Macy.

  • @mrentertainment43 Actually, my father was friends with Cole, but I never met him. I went to high school with the granddaughter Missy. In the early 1900s the grandfather was one of the wealthiest men in the U.S. Bought up W. Virginia land that was loaded with coal. Get it coal and cole porter..no actually Cole was the last name of the grandfather. Peru is a small town...about 13,000 same as 60 years ago.

  • Looks like he had a nasty r-bicep injury at some point.

  • HES THE BEST

  • For a retired wrestler he sure was busy wrestling.

  • bad bad man represent

  • Bruiser was, legitimately, the toughest man I ever saw in the business.

  • Bruiser was one of the first wrestlers I ever saw. He was one of the scariert people of his day, hell he's scarier than 99.9% of the guys today. One of the few people I ever saw Abdullah the Butcher run away from.

  • great upload. With surprise commentary by the great Jack Brickhouse at the end. Put brickhouse in your tags brother, you'll get baseball spillover

  • lol 2:35 his tits are sweating. just kidding, dick! don't haunt me

  • Met him while delivering a pizza with my brother in the mid 70's at this same home featured in the video. He was a real nice guy until we recognized him and then the rough, tough, persona surfaced! What a character!

  • I met him once in Indy at a high school football game. He was a real sweetheart and a gentleman. Very contrary to his on-screen personna. Today's wrestling is hyper-crap. Vince stinks.

  • Dick the Bruiser was my idol as a youngster living in Chicago. I remember seeing this clip on WGN many years ago, so I'm very happy someone posted it. He was truly the man! Also nice to see Jack Brickhouse - another Chicago legend.

  • The Bruiser was the shit!

  • When I was 5-6, Dick the Bruiser was God. He was Thursday nights in Detroit, and he wrestled about every other week, along with Bobo Brazil. A little later came the Shiek. It got us kids wrestling each other, pretending to be somone. But everyone, I mean everyone, wanted to be Dick the Bruiser!

  • Great video!

  • I installed his telephone service in the early 70's. He was the exact opposite of what he portrayed at the wrestling matches.

He was as polite and considerate as anyone could ask for.

I took my father to one of Bruiser's matches in Indianapolis. We had to leave early because my father was overwhelmed by all of Bruiser's blood that Cowboy Bob Ellis was spilling all over the ring.

  • This is a 5 star vid-and great story from june. Dick The Bruiser was a true "Alley Oop." "...........one of the tougher sports like Polo and the NBA...." Best.

  • @june796 he was an abasive asshole in the dressing room you really don't know the real dick affilis!

  • Bruiser was truly a innovator of hardcore, with Freddie Blassie, The Sheik. He traveled the world, though was based in Indianapolis. I saw many of Da Bruiser matches in Chicago. Always a 'Bruiser Buddy".

  • great, great point man! you know your shit for sure! dick the bruiser was king of the midwest, like lawler was king of the south.

  • Steve Stone ???

  • A true legend in the indy/ chicago area!

  • He was the absolute best!

Around Chicago and then Indianapolis I hardly ever missed one of his matches!!

  • Dick the Bruiser lived in Indy on the northwest side. He had a king sized bed put in the bedroom and the last wall was built AFTER the bed was put in. Thanks so much for the post. I saw Bruiser wrestle in 1975 live once and I was 11 at this match. Thanks again!!!!
