  • what breeder is that. I want to be sure NOT to buy from them

  • powersun bulbs are the way to go man

  • justin bieber is a cunt .

  • Have you taken any sort of action to get this idiot breeder shut down? This is blatant animal abuse.

  • What a shame, such a beautiful animal, destroyed by incorrect information. Poor little gu.

  • I have uv lighting but i also give him d3 (reptivite)

are you saying d3 is bad over all

  • @oMEHRDADo He's saying just to use the lighting, not the supplements. It's an essential nutrient but a reptile's body will produce it on its own when exposed to UVB. And don't use both, D3 overdoses CAN happen like any other nutrient.

  • @oMEHRDADo Get rid of the D3 junk, its a chemical not a calcium supplement, D3 cannot be absorbed through the stomach only through Uvb exposure is it obtained. D3 has been linked to causing impactions and over dosages,it's ok to use it ounce a week, for the rest supplement without d3 calcium.

  • i use powersun uv which provides essential uva, uvb, light and heat all in one its a pretty penny but ill do watever it takes for my animal not to look like that.. thats just makes me so sadd :/ wtf is wrong with ppl mannn

  • :o( Poor thing, the guy who owned her and allowed this to happen doesn´t deserve any animals.

I so badly want a Tegu but cannot get one, he doesn´t know how lucky he was to have one!

  • whoever did that to that poor tegu needs to be shot in the head D;<

  • You think that more people would understand this. With all the technology these days people are still letting this happen, to what would have been a beautiful Tegu. You're right, it's the animal that suffers. Thanks for putting this out there. Spread awareness about the D3 vs. UV information. Thanks Varnyard!

  • thats f****** ridiculous

  • Oh god that's so sad, it's 2 years.. it's been suffering so long. :(

  • thats really messed up man! people are so screwed up. what's wrong with us?

  • did she end up surviving ? no madder what i always always put UV on my reptiles

  • wow just wow :(

  • very sad to see that man. greedy people.

  • im getting one tomorow and dont have a uv light.

but im planning on getting one in a month or mybe two.

will it be okay for this long? its the winter.. i dont know if that will make a difference, please respond

  • ah god that pisses me off when ppl are cheap asses and there like we tis is cheaper and if this one guy saysthis crap gonna work and evry body else says USE A UV LIGHT!and they go well its cheaper and we dont have enough t to pay for the uv ik uv lights arnt cheap if you dont have the money to pay what it takes to keep a large reptile then dont get ! some ppl are just plain stupid......

  • how hard is it to get a uv light i mean you pay 100 plus on the tegu whats another 20 bucks for a light and uv light bulb

  • I'm doubble checking my lights and I know the basking light for my Sav has all that uva/uvb and more, but I also have a flurecent tube in the cage and it's been so long I can't recall what it was for so I use it every so often but it's not on the timer. I also take my Sav out about 1 time a week for about 2 hours at the least - real daylight - so would that be better then the lamps in the long run?

  • I wish this video could get out more among the Tegu owners. Many do not get this fact and need to see this. I put it as my featured video on my page! Thanks Bobby!

  • Great video, very informative.

I read the caresheet that he posted on varnyard-herps and it explains the calcium carbonate issue in more detail.

He also states the recommended supplement.

Again, great video. Thanks for posting.

    Very sad, poor girl.

  • can MBD be reversed?

  • did he ever even give the poor thing a chance to sun bath outside or just lock it in a dark closet

  • thats sad. i use a 10.0 14" long uvb lite. and a 100watt red heat bulb. i was told by the place to sprinkle calcium powder with d3 on a daily basis. ive only had him 8 days, he is about 12-14" long. and have done what i was told by them. what do you think ? any help is appreciated. dont want my tegu to end up like this one.

  • For an animal with the UV lighting you need without D3 With D3 is for like gecko snakes and other nocturnal animals that you arent giving the Uv lighting

  • i would have bea tthat guys ass, he doesnt deserve to have any animals, he should get charged for animal crualty, sorry to hear about the animal

  • i would of ripped that guys face of what the hell is his problem. poor tegu could even live its life as a normal tegu.ur the only breeder i would trust.

  • Can you use D3 and UV lighting for your tegu?

  • Hey Bobby,

I'm just wondering because I heard you say that most reptile calcium supplements are made of Crush Oyster Shell which the animal can't absorb so it needs to be Calcium Carbonate, correct? So which Calcium supplement would you recommend?

For anyone wondering I heard this one a radio show.

If I was to use just the Calcium Carbonate supplement should I worry about overdosing on it or will the excess be pooped/peed out?

    Spencer

  • Crushed Oyster shell is calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate comes from rocks and shells lol :)

  • I could have sworn the Crush Oyster Shell couldn't be absorbed... hmm lol

  • poor lil girl

  • It's nice to see how much you care for this poor animal. Thanks you for all your work promoting Tegus and gettign the facts out there!

Was the Tegu euthanised in the end?

  • Oh god poor animal! Thats why your my guru allways Varnyard!

  • that last comment was to

    garyorner btw

  • Excellent video. Thanks for educating everyone.

  • that guy needs to be put down.

  • that's messed up....

  • that is just soo sad!!!

  • poor thing :(

  • Thanks for post this! These people make me sick!

  • Will it ever grow anymore?

so albinos can bask for hours and hours?

Had it for 2 years and didnt notice it was soo tiny?

poor tegu can it even move its jaw, to like eat?

Good merc bulb only cost 50bucks too =(

Why would he not even get uv, that isnot an albino tegu =(

    breaks my heart

  • It won't grow, MBD causes the animal to be stunted as it is a bone disease after all.

Albino's can't bask as they cannot stand the bright light, like a human it will burn them and hurt their eyes as they lack the pigment that protects them. due to the lack of melinin in there skin they will not absorb uvb.

As for the reasoning behind this guys actions, he had read that D3 was a replacement for UVB on a website and took it at face value.

  • so how are albino's like a full pie'd(think called a luesistic) get D3?

  • With nocturnal species this isn't really an issue (like albino BP's) as they don't require it beyond trace amounts if at all but when speaking about diurnal species (like crocs, tegus, etc.) that's where the issue comes in, it prevents them from being able to get D3...which leads to MBD, this isn't the only issue with albino animals but it is one that can' be avoided. Calcium, phosphorous, vitamin A and vitamin D3 all play a roll in bone health, if one is out of whack, you will see issues.

  • cant u shoot it up with liquid um calcium and a few weeks in the sun?

  • At that stage the effects are irreversible even liquid calcium won't be effective, the damage is done beyond control, like I said even the hips are disjointed, I can't see an area where the bone has not been deformed to some extent. At some point you need to draw the line and say "this animal is suffering too much" and end that pain. After speaking with Bobby it seems he feels the same way although I won't speak for him so if he wishes to make that comment I'm sure he will.

  • poor tegu, its not even movin its head, =( i guess u right. But like how can someone not know somethings wrong, he only gave it up cuz he was kicked out of his home

    Saddens me =(

  • Just for others to understand reptiles absorb UVB and produce D3, Varnyard said it in a more simple manner. I think we all get the point however and he is dead ON. Do not try and substitute UVB with D3. Great video.

  • Sad my friend but very good info thanks. Hope the little girl gets better.

    Thanks again

  • She won't, MBD especially at that late of a stage can not be cured, you can see her hips are actually disjointed it is so severe. She will in my opinion need to be euthanized
