Yet another Chip Taylor tune with which the Troggs had a big hit despite they once again recording it after another band. The Liverpool Five's version of "Any Way That You Want Me" presents this deja vu. It's on You Tube and well worth checking out.Just like this tune,I like the original best. .
song, published it through Larry Page's music publishing company.Hendrix and all other versions were licensed through this company.I worked for Larry Page.Let's get history right please ! Keith Wilkinson
@ninahagen9 Actually, this was very much of it's time. There was a lot of stuff that sounded like that in the mid-'60s. The mid-to-late '70s punk really was the second generation.
This is too cool to be true. Never heard it before. Sounds perversely beautiful. Whatever that sounds like. Is this singer a girl? She sounds wild all right. If she's a girl.
Just like with " Anyway That You Want Me" that other Chip Taylor written tune was first recorded by the Liverpool Five...the Troggs followed and then had a big hit with it. I happen to like this version better than the Troggs ( not as good as Jimi's tho) and that LP5 recording also I like better than theirs also.
Never heard this before, THANX. A good version, I don't think it's better than Troggs' or Hendrix but strangely sounds like it was recorded AFTER those two versions.
In my opinion this version is far better then the Troggs because it has more feeling and fun. The harp is much more fitting than the , what is that instrument, the Ocerina? I don't see how it fits in rock and roll. I'm with billrrrrr on this one, this is prime rib!
Back in mid 80s radio station KFJC did a weekend long Wild Thing Marathon.. every conceivable version was played including lister tapes rock, techno, regga, punk, casio midi, classical... Pretty Wild Stuff
Proto-metal punk and garage-band was not invented when this was recorded. I heard the Troggs version when it was first played on the radio. Different interpretations, both enjoyable. You guys who are trying to analyze the music in great depth just don't get it. Enjoy what you hear and stop making comparisons. Music is not a competition!
First time I ever heard this version. Definitely different. Don't know if I like it or not. If doesn't have the raw garage band sound of energy of the Troggs' version. But it doesn't seem like it was going for that sound anyway.
Dayem! this i s the firstI have ever heard the original version...and I was around as a teenager for the Troggs and Hendrix versions. This is freakin' awesome; much better than the Troggs...wilder, hipper and kookier. Where has this been hiding all these years.
I believe the original is not nearly as 'commercial' as the Troggs - that said, I think it is far superior to the Troggs. The Troggs version is like a 'candy bar; to Jordan Christopher's ;Prime Rib'. Lots of people like 'sweets' - more discerning palates take the 'meats'.
this original seems much more "blues" than the Troggs version.
I think Jim Morrison and "The Doors" in retrospect , when i hear them, were much influenced by this track, which set a lot of precedents in music to follow in the 1960's
-i don't usually think covers are better than original, but The Troggs got very close
Thanks for posting I remember Jordan as a wide eyed British Invasion fan and a 13 teen year old and him telling me he met the Beatles and Peter and Gordon and that they were nice guys ... LOL that was at the Baptism for his niece what nice guy he was... I still run into his relatives here in Akron... Too soon at 55 RIP Jordan wish you were still with us.
The singer is fantastic, she has an inventive and "to be ahead of one's time"-style presentation. This masterpiece is a really discovery, thnx once more!
He Mr. Keybord-player from Wild Ones: many thnx for the uploading! It's fascinating, just a revelation! This original version much more better as the known, latter versions. Troggs: eh.., kindly remembrance, not more (ocarina solo? doesn't matter). Hendrix: the genius here is a little bit unexciting. BUT. This Wild Ones version ist FRESH, INTRESTING also in our days! ./.
Wow, I've never known that song was actually a cover! Thank you so much for posting it and giving some credit to the ones who originally made it. I like the troggs version better, but this has a bit more style of its own. It's a good song!
Great stuff! And today`s bans play it too. Look at youtube "Jeopards-Wild Thing, live in Ahrensburg, Germany and "Jeopards" (live in Ahrensburg, Germany 30.05.09) how local giutarplayer Andre Sobo from unknown band "Jeopards" sings this song and playes solo and 16-19 years old audience likes it so much and this is in 2010!!! But this song was written 40 years ago and it is still groovy!
I love this obscure stuff! Kudos to you. Thanks very much for posting. I had assumed the Troggs version was the first. You learn something new everyday.
The Wild Ones never really got their due. They did a great job in the soundtrack of "Lord Love A Duck" . And Jordan Christopher played the role of disenfranchised garage band hero to the hilt in the film, "The Fat Spy". The Wild Ones should have hung in there a bit longer. Their brief recorded legacy holds up very well.
When Jordan Christopher married Sybil Burton, he decided to pursue a career in acting, with very modest success. The band stayed together for a while, but the media buzz was over. Our debut album "The Arthur Sound" was removed from sale because it claimed to have been recorded live at Arthur when it was in fact recorded pretty much live in a studio with lots of people hanging around, drinking and making noise. It was not a big seller anyway, I'm not sure what the fuss was about
@tgraves You're being modest. That LP was released at a time of peak creativity in rock and roll, when thousands of worthwhile records were lost in the shuffle. Yet many of them now are regarded as classics by musicologists and collectors. If the Wild Ones were not afforded ongoing media attention in 1965-1966, bear in mind the sheer glut of superlative new releases at the time. Put another way, if the Wild Ones decided to regroup and record a new CD, I'd review it. And I'm not the only one!
@MikeBlitzMag There were lots of great records released in that era, I completely agree, but sadly, ours was not among them. Not that we lacked talent, we simply had no focus or identity. We were too busy having fun to see the opportunity, and just drifted through in a cloud of sweet-smelling smoke.
@tgraves Not so much a lack of focus or identity as being overshadowed by the focus of Billie & Lord Love A Duck. But it's not too late to add to the band's legacy. To that effect, Blitz Magazine is at your disposal. And for what it's worth, if "Arthur" was a live club album that was actually recorded in a studio with a few friends posing as the audience, you're in vaunted company with the Beach Boys' "Beach Boys Party" album and Cannonball Adderley's "Mercy Mercy Mercy" album in that respect.
Louie Louie, by sea I go.... wow, granted both songs have the same chords, but this original version is just a rip off, whereas the troggs made it another song.
several years ago I heard that the song was originally a country style song and finally I get to hear it! Thanks a million!......regarding Chip Taylor and his actor brother...I have often wondered if Jon Voight figured that since his brother created an Angel (of the morning),that he had to produce an Angel(ina) as well...something to ponder, sorry but my mind works like this.
This version is interesting and atrocious all at once. The Troggs' version is infinitely better. 45 years later, history and record buyers have spoken.
Wow - I was the keyboard player in The Wild Ones and I have not heard that in 30 yrs. The Troggs version was much better, I agree, but interestingly, they exactly copied the Chip Taylor/Al Gorgone demo, to the point of using the actual track, complete with ocarina solo. I thought the demo was amazing, but our producer, Jerry Granahan thought he could do better. Oh well.
Thank you very much for replying. 30 years....?! Do you not own a copy of the single? Is it THAT rare?
I really like your original and it should have been a hit, but it's different from the remake -- more goodtime frat-party dance record than the head-banging proto-metal punk of The Troggs.
oh, well then, u should search for that demo, make a digital recording of it and post it here for all of us to hear, if it's not a great inconvenience of course
@tgraves - This version is amazing. I just love the song whoever sings it but if you just closed your eyes this version sounds like something that could have been released by a band nowadays.
@tgraves Thanks for the historical insight. You guys were cool and it has to be kinda neat to think you were the first to record Chip's classic song that countless bands and greats have covered. The Troggs may have made it famous, Hendrix may have owned it, but you guys were the pioneers who took the arrows.
@jic1 Yes, all the Troggs added was their imitation of Chip's original vocal on the demo. I still have the demo, on an acetate in my garage. Not sure if it's playable, but I'll dig it out one of these days. If I can find a turntable, I'll rip it and upload it.
As usual, the original is the best.
