Good point. I drive a 2002 ford zx2 90,000 miles. Never had a problem until i ran Pennzoil in it. It stated taping and i asked the auto parts store what they recommended and they told me there was a problem with their new formula (they corrected the problem now) that cause taping problems for some customers. They recommended adding ATF to the oil to clean it out. It didnt work so i tried sea foam. Still no difference. I always used GTX before and im thinking about going back.
ok well then find a good 5W-20 synthetic oil. An engine flush may free your lifters....and clean the engine. Use something like Lucas engine flush WITH FRESH cheapo oil and a fresh filter.
odeswx - I have been an AMSOIL synthetic lubricants dealer for the past 25 years and based on that experience, in your case I'd recommend staying with the Ford recommended 5W-20. 90,000 miles is a lot of wear and tear for a 4-cylinder engine that has been fed a diet of petroleum oil. The noise could be a lot of different things, no way to know for sure without diagnosis. Pennzoil never had a problem with their oil's formula. Using a better performing synthetic oil is always a wise choice.
@odeswx - It's pretty shocking what is happening in the Gulf of Mexico with the BP oil spill. There are entire sections of ocean that are *dead*. I've read of oil slicks miles and miles long, but *600 feet thick*! This catastrophe boggles the mind. This could basically kill the Gulf of Mexico for years to come, not to mention other oceans around the world when the oil spill from the Gulf over time flows to other oceans. The environmental impact of this is beyond devastating! :(
@odeswx - If you might be interested, I offer a synthetic oil that is very environmentally friendly in that it doesn't come from petroleum oil, (like the stuff that is killing the Gulf of Mexico), but from grains and natural gas right here in America. No foreign oil! :) It also costs less to use than petroleum oil and is all around better for your vehicle in every way. I have video's of this at my channel. Check it out and e-mail me with any questions. Enjoy. :)
The information on the labeling is not accurate. The first number is the weight of the oil before the viscosity index improvers were added. the second is the weight of the oil it mimics at operating tempuratures. This is only true for dino oil synthetic is another beast even though they label it similarly to ease consumer headaches.
Its a common misconception (actually there are many) about what the first xW means. This video shows it for what it is: the cold viscosity of the oil. the "W" in the number really does stand for Winter.
music please

There is no 1 oil thats best for all.
It depends on engine, weather conditions, application/ how u drive the car.
My rule of thumb is; if your car is too old to use Synthetic..... get a newer (better) car!!!
Unless you're REALLY poor.... why the heck would you want to drive around in an old gas guzzling piece of shit anyway!?

Thats crazy!.... The Pennzoil brand can go to hell!!
Dont even look at Pennzoil or Penrite!....they're the clowns of the industry!
It sounds like your hydraulic lifters are stuck. Buy a good synthetic 5W-30 and just really rev it out to try to free up the lifters.
marek0086 2 years ago
Ok i will. My oil cap says 5w-20, so will 5w-30 hurt it any? Thank you for the advice.

wait... forget about the 5w-20 oil..... just use a synthetic 5w-30 oil. This is one case where u DONT follow manufacturers recommendations!
marek0086 2 years ago
I'll give that a try. Thanks

@HiTechOilCo~ u do know that the whole gulf of mexico oil spill was pre-planned. They did it so they could set up an oil depot in the gulf of mexico.
