I remember this game... it's been a long time. Last time I could have ever played was 1999 (the year I traded it away). But I do remember a handful of things. For one, for apocalypse, he doesn't hurt you when he's in the air. The way my brother would beat him was by hitting him in mid-air, and you wouldn't get touched. So you would just be jumping back and forth hitting him in mid-air till he died.

I grew up playing the Genesis version... I had NO idea about the clown laughing or the shitty music. The music in the Genesis version for this stage was VASTLY superior, but... eGADS, those sound effects are HORRIFIC.

yeah u really made this level harder on yourself than it really is. it is BY FAR the EASIEST level in the entire game. It was one of only two levels i managed to beat as a child. all you had to do is kill the jack in the box without claws and you got health everytime.

To answer your quesiton - "Why would you not wanna use your claws" .....Because there's actually a small secret when you don't use your claws on the giant clowns that pop out of the boxes. (The Jack in the box). If you just punch those jack in the boxes and defeat them then you will gain a heart for health.

Wolverine can increase his health in 2 ways:

1. Kill the jack-in-box enemies without your claws and an energy heart will be left for you.

2. Retract your claws and stand still in a safe place.

because in one of the early games you had to scarfice life to use them it took them several screw ups on Nes by LJM before they got it right. They did a similar thing with tutrtles in time 4 when they coverted it from arcade format to super nes formatr in time were you have to scarfice like 5 to 25% of your health to do super movies that might do slight more damage on certain boss characrters but increase your odds of dying more often. WTF

the strategy for the end boss for wolverine stage 1 is when he jumps at you and at the same time you jump toward him and hit him with your claws(right when you jump press the attack button at the same time)...you'll go right through him but you wont take damage..the best area to attack him is near the 5 block platform(time 9:32) press up against the platform and attack him with strategy outlined above ..do this repeatedly until he dies..i hope this helps

Alright I just played for about 45 mins and had to quit after repetively getting killed by juggy and having to start over with that shitty spiderman bomb stage!! But I found a use for using wolverine's fists. When you come to a jack in the box machine gun kill him with your fists and you heal a little while punching and also get a heart everytime he dies which boosts the health even more. This made it easy to get to juggernut with 4 lives if you pick up the 1 up on the first part.
