I love GNR, but the original is much better. I think both Tyler's vocals and Joe Perry's guitar work are better on the original. GNR's vocals and guitar riffs are rockin' but it comes off as noisy. I'm sure if Aerosmith tried to cover Welcome to the Jungle or Paradise City, it would fall short too.

To appreciate Aerosmith's version, you need to listen to it live (not live videos). I've seen them three times and have also seen GNR play it live.

But, I don't alway blame Axl for the breakup, there was a bit of everything. Steven got kicked out because of Drugs, that was the beginning of it all. Izzy left for his health, and he was sick of all the attention. He never wanted to be as big they were.

The band fell apart after that.
