John 16:13 - "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth."
What comes from this AUTHOR (i.e the Holy Spirit) is ABSOLUTE TRUTH.
What comes from man is their PERCEPTIONS of what the Holy Spirit has *revealed* to them!!
- Whether it's the Spurgeons or the Edwards or Washers!! - with all my respect for these wonderful servants of God. Be like the Bereans - Acts 17:11; John 10:14-30 - (in fact the whole of ch 10!!)
It seems in this conundrum (I'm not a PW follower or any other man for that matter) PW is saying "When a difference in theology arises among 2 people using the Bible; let's see what has stood the test of time. Let's see what the doctrine was that won souls, advanced the Kingdom, etc."
this guy that is debating might read the bible but needs to learn to read people. understand what paul saying before throwing a bunch of questions out.
The pope is the anti christ the lord Jesus warned us about. The pope changed the sabbath day to a pagan day sunday which is dedicated to satan and sun worship. The pope gave the orders to torture millions of christians in the dark ages this is also a fullfilment of bible prophecy as anti christ. The pope called himself jesus's equal fullfiling the blasphemy of the anti christ. The pope came to power after romes fall and is still here today to fullfil Revelation 13 , he is 2thess2:4
everyone should do themselves a favor and never pay any attention to andrew bain at all. arguing with him encourages him, its the fuel to his fire, dissension is the reason his ministry exists.(romans 16:17) tells us to stay away from these type of people "such people are not serving the Lord but their own appetite.he has been doing this for a long time and he has been warned many times.he is not gonna repent for his ministry.may God help him.just pray for andrew theirs nothing more we can do

3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God[a] is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
Why does Paul write to Timothy about teaching, and the Corinthians about having elders in the church? Because, God has placed certain people in the body of Christ to be teachers, some to be pastors, and some to be evangelists. The point is, edification of the body comes by everyone working together. Paul is just saying that babes in Christ, and those who are Gospel ignorant, need someone to explain it to them, someone God has esteemed to be a leader of the church. God Bless.
is this guy listening to the sermon before he asks his questions? Paul's talking about the GOSPEL IGNORANCE of the nation of America. That's why he CONTRASTS the historical Christians and current Evangelical America. Surely this is obvious?
@brendos444 No problem, if Martin Luther and John Calvin could reject 1500 years of Catholic and Orthodox teachings on Christianity, can't deny to others the same right: every man his own Pope either with or without an ecumenical council as you prefer.
@brendos444 Never ceases to amaze me how Calvinists always manage to get St. Paul into a discussion about Christianity and leave the Gospel writers and even Jesus Himself out sometimes. It is nice that all the "refomers" agree about what is clear in the Bible-except of course those Protestant doctrines are not clear in the Bible and the differences between Calvinists and Arminians (we leave the RCC and EO out of the discussion now) are monumental-the very nature of God and salvation.
@RPenta Actually RPenta, i'm actually coming around to an Orthodox understanding of scripture and tradition. I am protestant, but was never a Calvinist. I actually think Calvinism is one of the biggest diseases in Protestantism. I do think Washer is not the worst of them tho. However his hell fire style has absolutely nothing to do with the Bible or church history. Hell fire Washer-style is an American invention. But yes i do see much value in Orthodoxy and am investigating it atm
The real debate is about the credibility of Christianity itself. I think the atheists are correct and Christians have enslaved themselves to a primitive book of barbaric mythology.
I rejected Christianity long ago and am quite convinced it (along with islam) are among the most irrational and toxic belief systems ever conceived.
My fondest wish is to see these two religions eviscerated from the face of the earth.
Once Again Mr. McBain more Quotes taken completely out of Context. I didn't find the sermon with Washer. But I did pull up the Westminster Confessions and they are not saying what you are saying one bit. I'm sorry but once again you are taking more quotes out of context and thus in Error.
Okay, the only problem w/ what you're doin here is arguing... You may be right, and washer may be wrong and sometimes it can be good to point out what other people are doing wrong if it's truly going to hurt someone, but preaching the word is not arguing or proving who's right on small issues, but actually taking people to Jesus.Repentance is granted by God according to the bible as well as Salvation or the knowledge of the truth possibly at the same time, but Let Jesus do the arguing u disciple
Of course, scripture alone. But, it is so easy for men to be divided in terms of their interpretation of scripture. Sometimes the interpretation can be wrong because a person doesn't want a certain part of scripture to say a certain thing. For example, Romans 9, which speaks about predestination (something I myself and many others hate or hated).
You should listen to a video "Don't Expect A Perfect Repentance" by Paul Washer. Also, don't listen to one sermon and judge him by it. You should listen to his all sermons before you talk. He's not teaching a works-based salvation at all.
How is Paul Washer a legalist? He's just preaching what the Bible says. Salvation is by faith, but faith without works is dead. Works are evidence of saving faith.
All of this useless bickering over misinterpreting someone's sermon. All of this at best pseudo-legalistic jargon makes me sick. Guys, go out and feed the poor! Go demonstrate Christ! Do something useful!
I strongly recommend that you do not judge people by outward appearances, assuming that they do not demonstrate Christ by acts of love. Are you sure that these people do not feed the poor? Who is the legalist? 1. The one who hungers for righteousness and happens to obey the Bible's instruction to admonish other believers in love or 2. the one who commands others to demonstrate Christ only in the way he deems useful.
@jeffreyontheway You did not understand my post. I did not judge anyone or suggest that this person does not demonstrate Christ by other acts of love. The thing that I did was give my opinion (.."useless bickering...pseudo-legalistic jargon...") Next, I gave an alternative command based on my opinion. Hey, if he already feeds the poor, that's great! Also I never said that feeding the poor was the only useful way - you placed that on me. And, who's being admonished? I don't see it.
The issues in the lives of those Christians doesn't change the fact that the Holy Spirit has worked in their lives. Looking at their following of Christ is in accordance with the Apostle Paul's instruction for Christians to follow him as he follows Christ. We follow the example of other Christians only in as much as their example lines up with Christ following. By the way, does scripture call Christians depraved and ignorant or does it call them new creations? What does former ignorance mean?
When Jesus said "what is highly esteemed among men is detestable to God," was he talking about the what HIS Church highly esteems? Didn't HIS Church highly esteem the leaders of the original Church and didn't the Apostle Paul instruct the Church to do this?
In the debate, what is spoken of are differences in the interpretation of doctrine and the ritual practice of baptism (infant vs. immersion). Taking Washer's words out of context and arguing that he refers to settling ANY belief by the WORDS of great Christian figures doesn't change the fact that Washer was talking about 1. the problem of immorality (caused by not making flowers of Christ) and 2. the EXAMPLE (not the words) of those Christians' pursuit of holiness for God's glory.

AndrewcBain, I hope you get to the bottom of what you are seeking and I hope you are seeking the truth, not an argument. The Church in the US and everywhere else for that matter is in shambles. Paul continually says 'scripture first' in his sermons. You sound like a pharisee trying to catch Jesus by pulling out small pieces out of context and going on about them instead of looking at his big picture message. There are a lot of folks who think they are Christian who aren't. Thank you Paul!
AndrewcBain - you completely miss the point, stop being a wolf trying to tear people away from sound teaching and please see that Paul Washer, Mark Driscoll, and many other Godly men that you have insulted are true shepherds.
Andrew,I know you think you're doing right, but stop being so legalistic,we have freedom in Christ.Your right a building is not the church, but a building does make it easier to meet with other believers,as long as truth is preached.Salvation is a supernatural conversion and the Holy Spirit is our teacher ,so have faith Andrew. We are to give honor to whom honor is due, right?
Between the two,Spurgen or Finney, who would you think lines up with scripture? Men have written commentaries ever since the Bible was written, this is how we get an idea of what they thought on difficult verse, yet scripture is the sole authority. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth, and He's lead others as well,so commentaries are read to see whose lead and who's not.
I personnaly dont believe PW to be a true teacher. I left the church as God in Rev 18:4 has asked us to do. There is one mediator who is Christ, but our teacher should be the Apostel Paul who preached only to the gentiles. Why do we try to find truth from those who bicker with one another?
@SwordofManticorE I saw you deny that Hell or the Lake of fire as true, well that's one mark of a cult member and you then left the church? That's another mark, since the Bibles says DO NOT FORSAKE THE ASSEMBLING OF YOURSELVES TOGETHER AS SOME OF YOU HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO DO.The scriptures are not of personal interpretation,so stop trying to put your own spin on them to justify your sin.
@CBALLEN Thats lie, I never denied the LoF at all. I do believe that there is a LoF as it is written in scripture. I do not however believe in the doctrine of hell. What I find funny about you saying that I put a spin on scripture is how there are so many divisions in the church about hell and what it is.
@SwordofManticorE The only division comes from people who don't believe Jesus or the Bible.I just love people who claim they love Jesus with one side of the mouth, then call Him a liar with the other.Jesus said if your hand or eye causes you to sin,cut it off or pluck it out,for it's better to enter Heaven maimed than enter Hell whole. He taught that we are to fear God,because He can destroy both body and soul in Hell. Please don't call Jesus a liar.
@CBALLEN That is not what he said at all. He was talking about Gehenna, and if you so literally believe that he was talking about hell, then why do you still have all your limbs and eyes? Or do they not cause you to sin?
@SwordofManticorE Because He has saved me from past present and future sins,He was talking to the lost about how terrible Hell was showing people that they were all guilty even when they believed they weren't.
@CBALLEN Yes He did ave you from al your sins, but e didnt die on the cross yet when He said these words. When He ministered to the jews, he was trying to explain to them what would happen (judgment) at Gehenna. As for the Father allowing or even thinking about His children to burn eternaly in a literal fire, read this Jer:7:31. Yahushua is not a liar and he did not say hell once. He said Gehenna, it is you who put words into Christ's Gospel and make Him a liar.
@SwordofManticorE Look ,there are more verses than that,Hell is not found in only one place and then taken out of context. The Rich man and Lazarus ,and the rich man lifted his eyes in torment, while Lazarus and Abraham watched from Abraham's bosom. The rich man was in need of water and wanted to send Lazarus to his brothers, but Abraham told the R.M. THEY HAD MOSES AND THE PROPHETS,meaning Jesus wasn't talking of the future but of HIS times,Jesus used names too,He never did that before only now.
@CBALLEN You go to be kiddig. The story of Lazrus was told to the pharisees that the blessings given to them from God would stop and be given to the gentiles for not sharing the word of God with them. The word that hell replaced is "unseen". That there is life after death, plz prove it with scripture. John 3:13, Ecc:12:7, Ac:2:29, and Ac:2:34 say otherwise.
Saducees = No belief in the resurrection of the dead.
Saducees = Only acknowledge the Books of Moses.
"You are in error, for you do not know the scriptures or the power of God."
God said to Moses, " I AM the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Long after they had been in the grave, Moses learned that they were NOT dead. How could he be the God of the Living if they were dead? Jesus taught that Moses prophesied resurrection, thus condemning the Sadducees by their own teachings.
@SwordofManticorE, If you choose to argue with the teachings of Christ himself, then one can only question whether you are truly born again of the Spirit of God at all. The Sadducees tried to trick Jesus with exactly the same question YOU asked. Jesus in his infinite wisdom let the Sadducees fall into their own trap. They were scripture ignorant as are you. You want scriptures? Matthew 22:31,33
@SwordofManticorE, How could God claim, "I AM the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, long after these three patriarchs had been dead and buried? How could he say this to Moses who came long after the death of Jacob? Jesus taught that even Moses prophesied resurrection of the dead. He then proceeded to teach the Sadducees that it would not be HE who condemns them, but Moses himself in whom they have placed their hopes. The tricksters were silenced, as indeed are you.
@irestinhim What are you barking about? Scripture also tells us that that we know nothing in our graves Ec9:5, 6 and 10. What do you know about being born again?
@SwordofManticorE, Ecclesiastes is the teachings of Solomon. He is pondering the ways one will live and search out many things in the hope of finding purpose. He refers to not knowing anything while in the grave as his perception of death withOUT God. READ it properly. In Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 he concludes his findings. "Fear God and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, whether it be good or evil."
@SwordofManticorE, you are arguing with the teachings of Christ himself. How can God be the God of the living if men are dead? Only the flesh is dead. The soul is eternal.
Ecclesiastes: "For God hath placed eternity in the hearts of men, but men cannot fathom the things of God from beginning to end."
@SwordofManticorE, what I know of being born again is exactly what Jesus testified to. I have been granted repentance which leads to saving faith and witness to the truth of Christ. It is the work of God's Holy Spirit to convict him of his sins before God, witness to his salvation and lead him into all truth concerning the scriptures. Being born again is the supernatural power of God which takes a mans heart which hated him and loved sin and changes it into a heart that hates sin and loves God.
@SwordofManticorE, what I know about being born again is that it was not something I could decide myself. Jesus was clear on that. One is not born again of their own decision. It is the work of God. The Spirit of God witnesses to my spirit that I am born again. That I am saved and sealed by God for the day of redemption. I have assurance of the promises of God through the Holy Spirit.
How do I know this? Because he saved me. I was lost, but now I am found. HE chose ME, I did not choose HIM.
I know that I now hate the sins I once loved. I know that what grieves God, also grieves me. I know that he has taken my heart and changed it. Something which no man can do. I know that he knows me because he is conforming me to HIS will. I am being changed daily into the image of his Son. It is the work of regeneration that the Holy Spirit begins and completes according to Christ. It is Faith, from first to last. It is ALL God.
I know that according to all Jesus taught concerning being born again, the evidence or the fruits that are manifested in the truly born again believer, are demonstrated in my life, bearing witness to the truth of the teachings of Christ.
God granted me repentance and gave me ears to hear and eyes to see which led me to saving faith in his Son. God's Spirit witnesses to my spirit that I belong to him. I am Spiritually reborn.
"Unless a man is born again, he shall not see the Kingdom of God."
If one does not KNOW they are truly born again of God, then they are not saved at all.
Their repentance was not genuine godly sorrow brought about by a deep conviction of their sins against an infinitely Holy God, it was only worldly sorrow. Men did not come to God with the desire to repent and turn from all their sins. They only came to escape the fires of hell.
@SwordofManticorE, Jesus said, "You will know them by their fruits, for a good tree cannot bear bad fruit and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Thus by their fruits you shall know them." It's not about knowing Christ, it's about Christ knowing YOU. It's about the supernatural transformation of a heart that is sinful and depraved into A NEW creation.
Repent and believe. Turn from all your sin and give yourself to God. Believe upon his Son for your eternal salvation. Follow after Christ.
@SwordofManticorE, believe upon Christ and follow after him. Turn your back on all of your sin and then you will know what it is to be truly born again of the Spirit of God.
It is the work of God's Holy Spirit to witness to a man that he is saved. No man can ever tell another that he is saved and born again. That is precisely why there are so many professing believers who don't really believe at all and are NOT saved. They never were from the beginning. They were simply TOLD they were by a man.
@SwordofManticorE, read the scriptures for yourself. Jesus said that it is the work of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit alone to witness to a man that he has been saved and born again.
This is precisely why blaspheming the Holy Spirit is the unforgivable sin. Without the Holy Spirit, there is no salvation. One remains unforgiven and subject to the eternal wrath of God. The Holy Spirit saves and converts a man. No man can EVER convert another man.
@SwordofManticorE, It is very easy to know whether a man who claims to be born again IS born again. He cannot possibly say that he loves God and lives to honor God with his whole heart, body, mind, soul and strength, if he still loves the sins which God hates. It's really that simple. God hates sin, so one cannot possibly love God if they still love sin.
It is a work of the Holy Spirit to convict a man of sin. Where there is no true conviction there is no true repentance. False convert.
@irestinhim I do not argue with the teachings of Christ, I discuss over the false interpretations of Christ's teachings, which BTW, I do not believe that you are born again by your beliefs of His words. Do you keep all His laws as written in Ec12:13-14? Do you go to a church? Do you believe that all men will be saved at the end of time? Do you believe that the wide path in Matt 7:13 leads to a place called hell? These are simple yes or no answers that do not requir an explaination now.
@SwordofManticorE And if you're thinking soul sleep that's been disproved too.Stephen saw Jesus stand up to meet him at his death, and John saw the souls of those who were beheaded for their faith in Heaven,so their is a Hell and no soul sleep.
@SwordofManticorE Matthew 5:30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
Sounds like He's talking about HELL to me,see, again you call Jesus a liar.
missed the whole point of what washer is saying... He was saying that if we cannot come to a conclusion (example pre-trib-vs mid-trib vs-post trib) what do we do to get the truth? He's comparing earlier church to our church today... Another example that washer is correct in is the Church in America vs the church in 3rd world nations are different. American church claims to be saved but how can we know when many are chillin in their mom's basement doing nothin to further God's kingdom.
Jesus said that His bride would be persecuted and this is a perfect example. Paul Washer preaches the true gospel and the man against him is one who lacks understanding and possibly the Holy Spirit. His words seem to make him quite ignorant of all truth.
"It may help us to compare ourselves with 2000 YEARS OF CHRISTIAN HISTORY." Funny, how a Baptist-Calvinist appeals to AUGUSTINIANISM when it comes to SOTERIOLOGY, but reject Augustine when it comes to all other matters, such as THE SACRAMENTS AND ESCHATOLOGY.
@Vikuulin I agree with you...its funny how he "appeals to history," (meaning Augustine" in matters of Soteriology....and yet REJECTS Christian History, or rather Augustine, in all other matters from the Sacraments to Eschatology.
He's a silly Fundie preaching a god in his own image while he points a finger and accuses them...
I meet AndrewcBain on YT years ago and I have meet people like him! They are starved for attention and are willing to sacrifice there soul and anything else in themselves for attention! Please, my friends all and everything we can do is pray and forgive his lies and perversions! He spends so much time on Paul Washer, when he needs to look to God and stop acting like a 2 year old!.... Honestly I can't believe he is still doing this...So sad!
Why do we need pastors? Why do we need teachers? Why do we need evangelists? (Eph. 4:11-14) One of the reasons is that "we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting..." I thank God that He has put good teachers in my life so that I am not taken captive by the "trickery of men", such as yourself.
he isnt saying look at other books or other doctrine,,,he is saying look at their behavior ,,,the behavior of the righteous,,,the behavior of Jesus for one,,,we need to look at the men who lived righteous lives,,,you cant interpret the bible in a weak manner,,,aire on the side of caution
Ga:5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Ga:5:23: Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
The old is a schoolmaster to make rules for children, but do these same rules apply to the spiritualy adult? No! If we live with the law of the spirit, we will experience the millinium with Yehushua, but either way, we all have salvation by the grace of God.
OK, chill out koldkase77...Paul Washer is not a great man of God but he sure tells it like it is.....the whole truth...but no-one wants to listen to the truth. I still love Paul Washer. I wish all Pastors would be like him.
@guylacelle Paul Washer is NOT a great man of God, no man is great! Even brother Paul teaches this, Only God is great. I also enjoy Paul's sermons, but I do not esteem him higher than God.
You protestants have that problem since you are Sola Scriptura. We Catholics don't have that problem since we know that the Church also has authority given to it by Jesus himself. So if 2 Catholics have a disagreement in regards to a verse, then we look to the Church's interpretation of that verse. That simple.
..... as the truth is seeked on GOD's ttru living words, the SCRIPTURES. As it is written:
, as it is written:
Luke 9:49-50 49"Master," said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us." 50"Do not stop him," Jesus said, "for whoever is not against you is for you."
SO Let him BE, and pray only for HIM so that HE and all those that HE brings to accept our LIVING CHRIST may find their ways only in HIM our living GOD.
We as GOD fearing people all know that sometimes we let Emotions interpret words, instead of the true NATURE meaning of things. Like me and you and Paul we are all man seeking the same and only GOD, but why waste countless hours trying to prove one man wrong? He's teachings do not part one's SOUL to be condemned or sent to HELL, but it leads others into knowing the only EXISTING Loving GOD and CHRIST, and in that path as one SEEKS GOD, GODS real things become revealed as the truth is ....
i don't understand why this video is not a conversation with paul washer. if i disagree with my teacher which is better to clarify, speaking with the teacher or speaking with a student.
Yeah, seriously, I'm in Denmark and got a chance to meet Paul in person. Not to mention he has an e-mail, I can give it to you.
But anyways, covenants and all that is great and all, but then again, how did Abraham got saved in the first place? Not to mention, clearly you don't even know what the difference between a preacher and a priest is. And you don't even know what the church is. Let me guess, then Christ rebuilding a church in 3 days never happened?
Andrew Bain. you have slandered enough. why dont you have a actual conversation with Paul Washer and ask him your questions. its easy enough to figure out where he is speaking and where you can find him. stop this ridiculousness.
I would assume that the point he's trying to make is that mainstream Christianity knows/teaches very little about the solid, time-tested fundamentals of the 'old-timers'.
The 'old paths' are better than the apostate, milk-toast, fruit-cake, man centered, church focused, entertainment based, flesh gratifying, gospel weak, things that are going on in the name of Christianity.
I'm with Paul W. People shouldn't be comfortable in that stuff. Especially if they claim to love the Lord Jesus Christ
andrewcbain your ramblings dont make sense, who are you and why do focus your energy on putting down people like paul washer . preachers like washer, piper ,macarther, stanley etc etc are true men after gods own heart . if u genuinely walk with the lord , his spirit will tell you who are sheep and who are the wolves.
Lol wow I did not know the all us youtube kiddies were getting so riled up about Washer. Anyway, he's admitted that his teachings ("Shocking blah blah" specifically) have some things he shouldn't say. I don't think any preacher can have as many videos as Washer does and not have some debatable theology come up relatively often.
You sound like an Andrew Bain worshipper. If Andrew Bain has any concept of truth whatsoever, it certainly doesn't show in any of his videos. He loves nothing more than to misrepresent people to the point of stupidity. Washer preaches the true gospel. We need more preachers like him.
Andrew Bain is the poster of this very video and the poster of a plethora of other videos that do nothing but take people out of context to make them say things that they aren't actually saying.
Why would you feel the need to rebuke people who enjoy listening to the biblical preaching of a man who, like your name, is a servant of God? Wouldn't it be better to rebuke those who promote a luke-warm, wattered-down, easy grace "Christianity"?
what most denominations are not realizing is that God Almighty is not anyone's "religion" God is God and he doesn't need anyone's help to prove it,Jesus Christ died for all humanity and all and any who come to believe in Jesus is because God The Holy Spirit calls them using men,if you truly believe and truly repent, truly trust and truly obey Jesus daily then you are His truly and no man nor anything in all creation can seperate you from God's Love
The only Person whom you should fully trust is Jesus Christ because His Holy Spirit will not lead you wrong,if God Almighty wanted you to simply trust men we would all be at the seeker friendly feel good new age churches having ourselves a good ol' time wouldn't we,.....,Amen
Why doesn't this guy take it up with Paul Washer instead of trying to fight so other guy.The fact is that if is someone is a man of God he can speak the words of lord because the lord uses him.The whole bible as it is, is written by man and the word was given to them from god. Does this man not think that other could write words of god also. The reason why Paul Washer told us to look back at the 2000 years, was so that we could see the real men of God and why there light shined so brightly.
I have heard this exact message directly from Paul Washer's mouth. He never ever denied that scripture alone is sufficient for our lives. As a matter of fact, he spoke at a conference named "sola scriptura" (scripture alone). It is normal for defensive/insecure individuals to attempt to find fault in those speaking the one and only truth instead of looking at the errors of their own ways. When I hear Paul Washer's messages, I feel the Holy Spirit stirring inside of me. There is no denying that.
Seems to me that man wants to find something wrong with everyone. Paul Washer is as real as rain after having listned to his many messages. I like his preaching and that to me is what is important when we are learning the word of a God.
@DezzyRayz but we have to remember that whatever any man preaches and its the truth we must not glorify the man but God in the man Jesus Christ. & say Praise Jesus Christ. and if the man ever so happends to step out of Christ we should know for we should have the word of God fully written in our hearts. so i agree PW ive seen deff. has the Holy Spirit .But because i see that he is alone i pray for him. for i dont see another to pick him up again if he were to fall like many other men have done
well the man is not perfect!!! but i like his otehr sermons God bless Him!! i like the preaching repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand!! repentance is evidence to true faith in Christ, the fruits of the Spirit is the evidence of a true regenerated born again Christian... thats what i like about PW on his other sermons may God bless us all with truth and guidance until we can be found blameless and spotless at Jesus second coming
Listen to the full sermon. The Question Paul presents is that of the interpretation of the Holy Scripture. How Do I know I am interpreting the bible rightly? Because Anyone may come up with some NEW systematical idea about a certain chapter of the bible. BUT, How does other brothers systematically interpret that chapter? BUT How do I know they are doing it right or wrong? Well saints have been studying the bible for 2000 years now, so there were lot of godly saints that can help us to interpret
It is interesting that the 35.000 denominations of the protestant sect have 35.000 interpretations of the bible. Maybe they need a Central Authority guided by the Holy Spirit to help them come to the Truth!
The gospel of Christ is so simple. Jesus said that narrow is the way, and only a few will find it. This harmonizes with PW preaching; not the millions that profess to be born again and yet their sinful lives lack the fear of God, felling comfortable with the diluted gospel of today, only because is convenient; yet, it wont save you.
You see, we are not saved by works, but, we are saved unto good works. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
So there goes the Christians ... as usual ... there's PW VS Joel Osteen and vice-versa, there RC VS Protestantism ... there's Pentecostal's VS Evangelicals and in R.Politics there's Republican VS Democrats and when they pray they pray in the NAME of ONE God condemning the rest of "the sinful world" to HELL (unless) they believe in their doctrineSSS of CONFUSION and DISUNITY! What a WONDERFUL groundBREAKing Reality! Hallelujah!
He is not saying that Church History is greater than the Bible but that it can be a good guideline to check our human fallible theology. The way I understand Historical Theology it that it is a tool much like a commentary. We interact with these as a last resort after prayerful study.
What we see here, if anything, from church history is what NOT to do and believe. That doesn't mean all of church history is bad and irregardable, it just means we must test all things and hold to that which is true, the word of God is truth.
And [to be fair] if you're a "Wesleyan" you can NEVER know if you've been good enough for God.
We do not need 2000 years of church history, have you studied church history? My ? to Bro. Paul is what part of church history do we need? Do we need the "'Convert' or die" evangelism approach of the Catholic Church, John Calvin, and the Puritans? Do we need the heresies of baptismal regeneration and transubtantiation? Pelagianism?
Church history must ALWAYS be held to the light of the word of God and must NEVER be put on the same equality of scripture.
Paul Washer is letting his Calvinism show here when he appeals to the neccesity of [reformed] church history. According to Calvinists, we can't read the Bible and interpret it right for ourselves unless we have a seminary grad. there to tell us what it means.
And yes, as a Calvinist, you can NEVER know if you are elect or reprobate.
Actually Paul Washer is not rejecting sola Scriptura. He is simply noting that 2000 years of church history is not just something that happened, and we make new interpretations in a vacuum. While the Bible is the final court of appeal for all doctrine and practice, Washer is simply noting, as the Reformers did, that we do not divorce ourselves from the rest of the body of Christ down through the ages..
With Washer. Who can be saved? No matter he says. He uses any excuse to place burdens on the backs of believers. We can never please God.God is just so untouchable and angry with us. He takes people back to a works system. And still you do not know if you are saved. He makes difficult the simply in Christ. God in you. Christ in You. The hope of Glorly.
God knows we are corruptible flesh. It takes His Holy Spirit to dwelling in us to keep us. God abodes in us. Washer preaches another Jesus.
1) Washer complains about Atler calls, Tracts, used complain about street preaching, the sinner's prayer is bad, And even complains about Vacation Bible school for Children. Just who can be saved and how do are they brought to the throne of Grace? This is phony selfrigheous conceit. And all Washer followers has made the gospel according to Paul Washer.
He demands their has to fruits to be saved. Is that written anywhere in the bible? That is a works system. Fruits do not save us.
When are you going to quit misrepresenting Paul Washer? He never has preached a works based gospel. He says as scripture does, Faith without works is a dead faith. If you say you are a child of God, yet live like the world, you are deceived. He has NEVER said, you have to work, 'to be saved'.
bro.. the truth is absolute and there is only one truth.
Washer tries to prove what he tells based on the long history of the church and not based on BIBLE. that is shocking to me.
Bible was under the RC Church for nearly 1000 years. and God used Martin Luther to bring it out. and many truths have been hidden during those dark ages of the church. Now, God is giving a lot of revelations to diff ppl who is willing to hear from God in line with bible and not from the history...
- "Phil 3:9 - and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith."
Can somebody here give me an explanation to the above verse in line with what Washer preaches ?
2 Cor 3:6 - He has made us competent as ministers of a "new covenant"—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
Can somebody tell me, who can go to heaven according to this verse. - James 2:10 - For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
Can Paul Washer go to heaven ?
No one can go to heaven by their own holiness. and thats the reason y Jesus came down and took our sins and imputed His righteousness and holiness by His grace. and so we are holy and righteous now not because of what we do, but because of what Jesus has done for us.
Can anyone show me any one place in bible where Jesus condemning someone for their sins ? Who gave Paul Washer the authority to condemn someone for their sins ?
Gal 2:21 - I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing.
2 Cor 5:21 - God made him(Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
if we read the bible with the revelation from God.. it makes absolute sense. if not u'll end up in quoting others like Paul Washer.
Why is he always looks depressed ? and with a low tone... Man.. Rejoice in the Gospel of Christ...!! if the gospel is not allowing you to rejoice, then ur not preaching the right Gospel...!! as simple as that....
If you really took a look at the "Christian" world and saw just how many "Christians" are living wicked sinful lives, then you'd be depressed too. You'd be broken hearted for all of those people. You're arguing that he looks sad so he must not be preaching the right Gospel? Seriously? Paul Washer's message is right on point and that's why you can't attack his messages. In no way am I defending him to the death, because if he makes a mistake I'll readily acknowledge it.
Matt. 4:17 Jesus says repent of your sins. Mark 1:14-16 Jesus says repent of your sins.
Do you really think that people today with their vague view of sin will really truly understand "Repent of your sins" unless you show them just how wrong they are? In such a relativistic society that doesn't hold to an absolute truth do you really think they will all understand. Maybe it's about time someone that reads the Bible defines sin for those who don't so they'll understand their need for a Savior.
No one here is arguing that we don't need grace to go to heaven. Paul Washer isn't saying that he's perfect either. I don't understand how this applies.
dear bro.. If Paul Washer is not perfect then he cannot go to heaven.. and that is a sad statement made by u...:(
I can boldly say, I am perfect ! not because of what I did but because of what Jesus did for me..
1 Cor 1:30 - It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God-that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
Jesus is my righteousness, holiness and redemption..
Im holy just as Jesus because, Gal 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
2 Cor 5: 17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
How the old has gone ? Jesus took away all my sins.. past, present and future.. What is the new thing ? the holiness and righteousness of Jesus has come to me..
This is the Gospel ! Good news !!
What a beautiful God I serve..!! Thankyou Jesus...!!
In no way is Washer saying that we should only interpret Scripture through church history. Sure, there is the RC church history, but there's the early church before that (which i would think to be the most relevant to interpretation) and the church after that too. He's not saying that everything is interpreted solely based on history. The same argument would apply for logic. You can't just stand there shouting Bible verses at each other. You need sound logic behind your position.
note that paul washer is not perfect either. we have all gone astray.
one man here lies in wait to catch a godly man in a mistake-- seeking to pull down a man of God-- dangerous actions. and the other side makes the mistake of defending a fallible man-- equally wrong stance.
Come as a child Believe: n the Virgin Birth Jesus died 4 us sinners & rose again Know you are a sinner repent of your sins Ask Jesus in to your heart When one repents and invites Jesus in AND their heart is sincere Jesus moves in PRAISE THE LORD JESUS* FOR HIS SAVING GRACE! His Holy Spirit in us we be changed & we will grow up n Jesus & hunger for His Word and hunger for Him. Jesus said come as you are.. You need not be a Scholar of the Word to be saved
Bain is a person that conforms to New Covenant Theology. He completely disregards the Old Covenant, which is obviously still a way that non-believers are measured, and he might as well disregard the Bible as Scripture because he doesn't believe the Old Testament is applicable. New Covenant Theology has a history dating back to the 1600s so I don't know how he's able to conform to that if he doesn't believe that church history is needed. And he doesn't believe in Jesus' support of a local church.
Bain is clear abt what he's talking... Gal 3:23 - Before this faith(Jesus) came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith(Jesus) should be revealed. 24 So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. - NIV
Why did God gave the law..? Just to lead us to Christ. there is nothing more to it.
No he's not. Listen to the stuff at the end of his video again. Bain twists Scripture to make it mean something it doesn't. He twists it to make it mean something different that what you're saying he means too. Look up New Covenant Theology and you'll see that this is exactly what Bain is presenting here.
What Bain is doing here is, once again, messing up his terminology. He is implying that the word covenant has the same meaning in the Bible as the word he is using. The covenant of grace is an encompassing theme of God having grace on man. The old covenant he refers to is the Mosaic Law and the new covenant is God's law written on our hearts through Christ. Bain has simply taken his Bible verses out of context and made them mean what he wants.
This is a better covenant because there is one sacrifice that covers all sin. The covenant of grace is not about man doing things, but about God having grace on man despite their works. In other words, this new covenant is not saying that we are no longer under God's grace, because we are, but that those in Christ are now found with no condemnation because they are no longer under the Law.
The more I watch this video, the more I want to say stuff about it. How is there no distinction between the way that grace was administered in the old and new covenant? The covenant of grace was administered through animal sacrifices in the Old Testament. God had grace on man and created the Law so that man would know what was a sin and so that man can be forgiven by God's grace. In the New Testament, the covenant was administered through Christ's death as an ultimate sacrifice.
Correction to my last comment, I meant that "church" was only used three times in the Gospels. So, the Westminister Catechism means that baptism is to administered in the context of a local church, aka a local assembly of believers. It is not saying that there was a large gathering of all believers, but it was making an obvious distinction between the universal and local church. I'd ask that Bain get his terminology right in the future in addition to correcting his logic and ethics.
Pl goto the AUTHOR OF THE BIBLE for answers!!

1 John 2:3-6

RPenta 5 months ago
@brendos444 Never ceases to amaze me how Calvinists always manage to get St. Paul into a discussion about Christianity and leave the Gospel writers and even Jesus Himself out sometimes. It is nice that all the "refomers" agree about what is clear in the Bible-except of course those Protestant doctrines are not clear in the Bible and the differences between Calvinists and Arminians (we leave the RCC and EO out of the discussion now) are monumental-the very nature of God and salvation.
RPenta 5 months ago

BnaiHaShem 1 year ago
@BnaiHaShem
I strongly recommend that you do not judge people by outward appearances, assuming that they do not demonstrate Christ by acts of love. Are you sure that these people do not feed the poor? Who is the legalist? 1. The one who hungers for righteousness and happens to obey the Bible's instruction to admonish other believers in love or 2. the one who commands others to demonstrate Christ only in the way he deems useful.
jeffreyontheway 1 year ago
@jeffreyontheway You did not understand my post. I did not judge anyone or suggest that this person does not demonstrate Christ by other acts of love. The thing that I did was give my opinion (.."useless bickering...pseudo-legalistic jargon...") Next, I gave an alternative command based on my opinion. Hey, if he already feeds the poor, that's great! Also I never said that feeding the poor was the only useful way - you placed that on me. And, who's being admonished? I don't see it.
BnaiHaShem 1 year ago
The issues in the lives of those Christians doesn't change the fact that the Holy Spirit has worked in their lives. Looking at their following of Christ is in accordance with the Apostle Paul's instruction for Christians to follow him as he follows Christ. We follow the example of other Christians only in as much as their example lines up with Christ following. By the way, does scripture call Christians depraved and ignorant or does it call them new creations? What does former ignorance mean?
jeffreyontheway 1 year ago

CBALLEN 1 year ago
Between the two,Spurgen or Finney, who would you think lines up with scripture? Men have written commentaries ever since the Bible was written, this is how we get an idea of what they thought on difficult verse, yet scripture is the sole authority. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth, and He's lead others as well,so commentaries are read to see whose lead and who's not.
CBALLEN 1 year ago
I personnaly dont believe PW to be a true teacher. I left the church as God in Rev 18:4 has asked us to do. There is one mediator who is Christ, but our teacher should be the Apostel Paul who preached only to the gentiles. Why do we try to find truth from those who bicker with one another?
SwordofManticorE 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE I saw you deny that Hell or the Lake of fire as true, well that's one mark of a cult member and you then left the church? That's another mark, since the Bibles says DO NOT FORSAKE THE ASSEMBLING OF YOURSELVES TOGETHER AS SOME OF YOU HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO DO.The scriptures are not of personal interpretation,so stop trying to put your own spin on them to justify your sin.
CBALLEN 1 year ago
@CBALLEN Thats lie, I never denied the LoF at all. I do believe that there is a LoF as it is written in scripture. I do not however believe in the doctrine of hell. What I find funny about you saying that I put a spin on scripture is how there are so many divisions in the church about hell and what it is.
SwordofManticorE 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE The only division comes from people who don't believe Jesus or the Bible.I just love people who claim they love Jesus with one side of the mouth, then call Him a liar with the other.Jesus said if your hand or eye causes you to sin,cut it off or pluck it out,for it's better to enter Heaven maimed than enter Hell whole. He taught that we are to fear God,because He can destroy both body and soul in Hell. Please don't call Jesus a liar.
CBALLEN 1 year ago
@CBALLEN So have you cut off your hands or plucke out yor eyes yet?
SwordofManticorE 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE That's not the point,Jesus was just saying Hell is such a terrible place that people should do all they can to stay out of it.
CBALLEN 1 year ago
@CBALLEN That is not what he said at all. He was talking about Gehenna, and if you so literally believe that he was talking about hell, then why do you still have all your limbs and eyes? Or do they not cause you to sin?
SwordofManticorE 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE Because He has saved me from past present and future sins,He was talking to the lost about how terrible Hell was showing people that they were all guilty even when they believed they weren't.
CBALLEN 1 year ago
@CBALLEN Yes He did ave you from al your sins, but e didnt die on the cross yet when He said these words. When He ministered to the jews, he was trying to explain to them what would happen (judgment) at Gehenna. As for the Father allowing or even thinking about His children to burn eternaly in a literal fire, read this Jer:7:31. Yahushua is not a liar and he did not say hell once. He said Gehenna, it is you who put words into Christ's Gospel and make Him a liar.
SwordofManticorE 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE Look ,there are more verses than that,Hell is not found in only one place and then taken out of context. The Rich man and Lazarus ,and the rich man lifted his eyes in torment, while Lazarus and Abraham watched from Abraham's bosom. The rich man was in need of water and wanted to send Lazarus to his brothers, but Abraham told the R.M. THEY HAD MOSES AND THE PROPHETS,meaning Jesus wasn't talking of the future but of HIS times,Jesus used names too,He never did that before only now.
CBALLEN 1 year ago
@CBALLEN You go to be kiddig. The story of Lazrus was told to the pharisees that the blessings given to them from God would stop and be given to the gentiles for not sharing the word of God with them. The word that hell replaced is "unseen". That there is life after death, plz prove it with scripture. John 3:13, Ecc:12:7, Ac:2:29, and Ac:2:34 say otherwise.
SwordofManticorE 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE,
Saducees = No belief in the resurrection of the dead.
Jesus taught that Moses prophesied resurrection, thus condemning the Sadducees by their own teachings.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, If you choose to argue with the teachings of Christ himself, then one can only question whether you are truly born again of the Spirit of God at all. The Sadducees tried to trick Jesus with exactly the same question YOU asked. Jesus in his infinite wisdom let the Sadducees fall into their own trap. They were scripture ignorant as are you. You want scriptures? Matthew 22:31,33
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, How could God claim, "I AM the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, long after these three patriarchs had been dead and buried? How could he say this to Moses who came long after the death of Jacob? Jesus taught that even Moses prophesied resurrection of the dead. He then proceeded to teach the Sadducees that it would not be HE who condemns them, but Moses himself in whom they have placed their hopes. The tricksters were silenced, as indeed are you.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, Matt 22:32, Luke 20:38, Mark 12:27, Rom 14:8
When God says "I AM" that means he IS. Not he WAS or he WILL BE. Faith lives on beyond the grave, as Jesus taught the Pharisees and Sadducees.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@irestinhim What are you barking about? Scripture also tells us that that we know nothing in our graves Ec9:5, 6 and 10. What do you know about being born again?
SwordofManticorE 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, Ecclesiastes is the teachings of Solomon. He is pondering the ways one will live and search out many things in the hope of finding purpose. He refers to not knowing anything while in the grave as his perception of death withOUT God. READ it properly. In Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 he concludes his findings. "Fear God and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, whether it be good or evil."
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, you are arguing with the teachings of Christ himself. How can God be the God of the living if men are dead? Only the flesh is dead. The soul is eternal.
Ecclesiastes: "For God hath placed eternity in the hearts of men, but men cannot fathom the things of God from beginning to end."
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, what I know of being born again is exactly what Jesus testified to. I have been granted repentance which leads to saving faith and witness to the truth of Christ. It is the work of God's Holy Spirit to convict him of his sins before God, witness to his salvation and lead him into all truth concerning the scriptures. Being born again is the supernatural power of God which takes a mans heart which hated him and loved sin and changes it into a heart that hates sin and loves God.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, what I know about being born again is that it was not something I could decide myself. Jesus was clear on that. One is not born again of their own decision. It is the work of God. The Spirit of God witnesses to my spirit that I am born again. That I am saved and sealed by God for the day of redemption. I have assurance of the promises of God through the Holy Spirit.
How do I know this? Because he saved me. I was lost, but now I am found. HE chose ME, I did not choose HIM.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, what do I know about being born again?
I know that I now hate the sins I once loved. I know that what grieves God, also grieves me. I know that he has taken my heart and changed it. Something which no man can do. I know that he knows me because he is conforming me to HIS will. I am being changed daily into the image of his Son. It is the work of regeneration that the Holy Spirit begins and completes according to Christ. It is Faith, from first to last. It is ALL God.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, what do I know about being born again?
I know that according to all Jesus taught concerning being born again, the evidence or the fruits that are manifested in the truly born again believer, are demonstrated in my life, bearing witness to the truth of the teachings of Christ.
God granted me repentance and gave me ears to hear and eyes to see which led me to saving faith in his Son. God's Spirit witnesses to my spirit that I belong to him. I am Spiritually reborn.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, Jesus said it himself,
"Unless a man is born again, he shall not see the Kingdom of God."
They only came to escape the fires of hell.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, Jesus said, "You will know them by their fruits, for a good tree cannot bear bad fruit and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Thus by their fruits you shall know them." It's not about knowing Christ, it's about Christ knowing YOU. It's about the supernatural transformation of a heart that is sinful and depraved into A NEW creation.
Repent and believe. Turn from all your sin and give yourself to God. Believe upon his Son for your eternal salvation. Follow after Christ.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, believe upon Christ and follow after him. Turn your back on all of your sin and then you will know what it is to be truly born again of the Spirit of God.
It is the work of God's Holy Spirit to witness to a man that he is saved. No man can ever tell another that he is saved and born again. That is precisely why there are so many professing believers who don't really believe at all and are NOT saved. They never were from the beginning. They were simply TOLD they were by a man.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, read the scriptures for yourself. Jesus said that it is the work of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit alone to witness to a man that he has been saved and born again.
This is precisely why blaspheming the Holy Spirit is the unforgivable sin. Without the Holy Spirit, there is no salvation. One remains unforgiven and subject to the eternal wrath of God. The Holy Spirit saves and converts a man. No man can EVER convert another man.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE, It is very easy to know whether a man who claims to be born again IS born again. He cannot possibly say that he loves God and lives to honor God with his whole heart, body, mind, soul and strength, if he still loves the sins which God hates. It's really that simple. God hates sin, so one cannot possibly love God if they still love sin.
It is a work of the Holy Spirit to convict a man of sin. Where there is no true conviction there is no true repentance. False convert.
irestinhim 1 year ago
@irestinhim I do not argue with the teachings of Christ, I discuss over the false interpretations of Christ's teachings, which BTW, I do not believe that you are born again by your beliefs of His words. Do you keep all His laws as written in Ec12:13-14? Do you go to a church? Do you believe that all men will be saved at the end of time? Do you believe that the wide path in Matt 7:13 leads to a place called hell? These are simple yes or no answers that do not requir an explaination now.
SwordofManticorE 1 year ago
@SwordofManticorE And if you're thinking soul sleep that's been disproved too.Stephen saw Jesus stand up to meet him at his death, and John saw the souls of those who were beheaded for their faith in Heaven,so their is a Hell and no soul sleep.

He's comparing earlier church to our church today... Another example that washer is correct in is the Church in America vs the church in 3rd world nations are different.

Luke 9:49-50 49"Master," said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us." 50"Do not stop him," Jesus said, "for whoever is not against you is for you."

I would assume that the point he's trying to make is that mainstream Christianity knows/teaches very little about the solid, time-tested fundamentals of the 'old-timers'.
The 'old paths' are better than the apostate, milk-toast, fruit-cake, man centered, church focused, entertainment based, flesh gratifying, gospel weak, things that are going on in the name of Christianity.
I'm with Paul W. People shouldn't be comfortable in that stuff. Especially if they claim to love the Lord Jesus Christ

When you go to bible college to become a pastor, you have to take a specific study of doctrine: Pentecostal, Mennonite, Baptist, etc etc...

I think the part of 5:21, that you are talking about is being taken out of context.
It's pretty easy to see what Paul Washer is trying to say, he's not disclaiming the bible?

I have heard this exact message directly from Paul Washer's mouth. He never ever denied that scripture alone is sufficient for our lives. As a matter of fact, he spoke at a conference named "sola scriptura" (scripture alone). It is normal for defensive/insecure individuals to attempt to find fault in those speaking the one and only truth instead of looking at the errors of their own ways. When I hear Paul Washer's messages, I feel the Holy Spirit stirring inside of me. There is no denying that.

He is not saying that Church History is greater than the Bible but that it can be a good guideline to check our human fallible theology. The way I understand Historical Theology it that it is a tool much like a commentary. We interact with these as a last resort after prayerful study.
aroyalpriest 2 years ago
What we see here, if anything, from church history is what NOT to do and believe. That doesn't mean all of church history is bad and irregardable, it just means we must test all things and hold to that which is true, the word of God is truth.
adambomb312 2 years ago
And [to be fair] if you're a "Wesleyan" you can NEVER know if you've been good enough for God.
We do not need 2000 years of church history, have you studied church history? My ? to Bro. Paul is what part of church history do we need? Do we need the "'Convert' or die" evangelism approach of the Catholic Church, John Calvin, and the Puritans? Do we need the heresies of baptismal regeneration and transubtantiation? Pelagianism?
adambomb312 2 years ago
Church history must ALWAYS be held to the light of the word of God and must NEVER be put on the same equality of scripture.
Paul Washer is letting his Calvinism show here when he appeals to the neccesity of [reformed] church history. According to Calvinists, we can't read the Bible and interpret it right for ourselves unless we have a seminary grad. there to tell us what it means.
And yes, as a Calvinist, you can NEVER know if you are elect or reprobate.
adambomb312 2 years ago
Actually Paul Washer is not rejecting sola Scriptura. He is simply noting that 2000 years of church history is not just something that happened, and we make new interpretations in a vacuum. While the Bible is the final court of appeal for all doctrine and practice, Washer is simply noting, as the Reformers did, that we do not divorce ourselves from the rest of the body of Christ down through the ages..
YoungCalvinist08 2 years ago

Fruits do not save us.
simplydannygirl 2 years ago
When are you going to quit misrepresenting Paul Washer? He never has preached a works based gospel. He says as scripture does, Faith without works is a dead faith. If you say you are a child of God, yet live like the world, you are deceived. He has NEVER said, you have to work, 'to be saved'.

Xerion23 2 years ago
note that paul washer is not perfect either. we have all gone astray.
one man here lies in wait to catch a godly man in a mistake-- seeking to pull down a man of God-- dangerous actions. and the other side makes the mistake of defending a fallible man-- equally wrong stance.

Xerion23 2 years ago
