  • loing this again. Often watch without comenting.

  • I love when its about to launch and the sparkes sound like im opening a can of sprite lol god i love the space shuttle :)

  • God bless HD. =D

  • is this discoveries last trip?

  • wow this was launched at my birthday :D

  • Dear Santa...

  • Nasa audio is always so weak. Where's the power?

  • @proaudiohd What? Do you want them to yell into the microphone so your ears fall off?

  • @hardstyle905 - the shuttle sounds like it's coming thru a cell phone across the room.

  • @proaudiohd I think te cameras are over 3 miles away so...

  • why cant we keep spending money on science instead of FUCKING WAR!????

  • @odstroy22 Ron Paul 2012.

  • see it! its amazing how far you can see the rocket!

  • i watched in hd and it was quite amazing :D

  • The guy commentating on the takeoff sounds like a total idiot

  • What the hell?! Where's the rest of the launch?

  • 0:27 = amazing camera angle

  • @laurence265 absolutely agreed!!!! Very impressive shot!

  • Ive seen almost every launch of the shuttle since i was 5. HANDS DOWN the most amazing thing you will ever see. Watch it from Cocoa beach if you get a chance

  • whare does the lancher go after ward?!?!

  • @heide20018 The SRB'S ( Solid Rocket Boosters) aka the white Rockets burn for 2 minutes and then jettison from the space shuttle, falling back to earth into the ocean to be retrieved and repaired by NASA. The ET (External Tank) or the Big orange thingy just burns up the in atmosphere and is not reusable.

  • @applemacbook13 what if i doesnt falls in the ocen and it falls on my house?!?!

  • @heide20018 I dont think that could happen and Nasa wouldn't just carelessly drop it on your house

  • @applemacbook13 or wood thay da da daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • nice vid!I always get goose flesh when they count down! thumbs up!

  • This is just amazing.

I really get goose bumps when I see these Space Shuttle lift-offs. :o)

  • how many spaceship are in space

  • only one more launch left, was supposed to be the 1st nov. then got delayed twice

  • right on..this happened on my birthday~!!

  • how to come back?

  • this..is something id love to watch.

  • @gabrocki Me to!

  • 0:12 looks so unreal it's awesome.

  • it would be funny if a bird crashed into it

  • @lora97890 there is actually a video of a bird being hit

look up on YouTube 'Space Shuttle Vs. Birdie' :)

  • imagine the space station in a decade or so. Imagine what it would be like.

  • @seagezZ

the ISS is returning to Earth in 2-5 years, so it will look like a pile of rubble.

It will be a sad day.

  • Amazing isn't it? This is what your taxes pay for. So quit bitching about high taxes.

  • @azbacnikorange That's not true. Right now you're paying taxes for a pointless war that you started yourselves.

  • @hardstyle905 I didn't start it. I wish I had a say in it but I don't

  • 0:24

    That view is epic

  • To the person who put this video up in any other video onprogram. In any way of getting copies of all this sent to me I am trying to put our collection together. And I do not have a lot of the space shuttle flights, and even good footage of the Apollo. Please contact me by a private message Michelle

  • :28 DEFINATELY a UFO!

  • KULE

  • LOL! Did anyone catch the countdown timer was still at 00:07 when it took off?!

  • Hmmm - it was actually 7 seconds past zero, ie counting up, not down. If you count AND one, AND two as the boosters ignite, it's about right at 6 then 7 seconds.

  • Stunning, would love to witness a launch in real life :)

  • @1975buddha Same here. But I was born and raised in Florida and have not been to one single launch yet.

  • @journeyway86 I'm in the same boat; never been to one. I think I'm going to make the drive for Discovery later in the year. Never thought I would see these things fully retired. They haven't set the time for the one in November. So, it would be nice if they did a night launch.

  • Imagine the G's behind that beautiful thing? Imagine the force it has, I love powerful things :)

  • Truly an amazing piece of engineering.

  • muito louco!!!

  • I love the fire ar 0:14

  • My dad grew up with one of the astronauts on this mission. :) We were there!!! It was awesome. The family section had to be evacuated for some gas reason, but we were in a different section. It was amazing.

  • Great video! I may have this launch on video tape being that I record them on my VCR when I know they are going up. I never get tired of watching these shuttles launch, day or night. It's s shame they are winding down the shuttle program. Nice video once again!

    Ken Palmer

  • Amazing, great photography...

can someone explain to me why after the shuttle launches it rolls over 180 degrees onto its back and banks about 10-20 degrees nose back?..

    Thanks

  • if i remember correctly its to help them spear through the atmosphere better, meaning just that little less strain on the astronaughts and the vehicle

  • There are a few reasons the shuttle rolls over. Guidance, antenna positioning, aerodynamics (the tank protects the orbiter) and to give the crew line of sight of the horizon in case of having to go thru abort modes.

  • I am not an astronaut but maybe because its weight is off-center (shuttle regarding the main rockects) and it needs to lay down to approach the expected orbit.

  • To get into a low orbit around the earth you need more horizontal rather than vertical acceleration. The shuttle rolls and pitches until the shuttle is underneath the external tank, and the wings are level.

Another reason the shuttle rolls is to enable it to reach a spot on trajectory to it's destination in orbit. The shuttle rolls again further into it's lauch after the SRB's have been seperated, to enable the shuttles communications to switch from comms on the ground, to comms via satellite.

  • They do have warp drive technology at NASA its just a bitch finding Dilithium

    crystals anywhere...All the Meth heads

are using it up to make their shit!!

  • why use spaceshuttles? why dont use a warp reactor as in Startrek. if they would have used warp power in 1986 the crew of challenger wouldnt had to die

  • If we knew HOW to use Warp power... I think we'd be using it DUMASS!

  • no cuz the goverment is covering it up. why do you think they shoot you in you try to enter groom lake area 51. they are hiding something,.....

  • lol. Too much Star Wars for you, kid.

  • So they have to slow down to break the sound barrier, then speed up again? I didn't know that.

  • 不错,!!

  • clear power ///M

  • Not sure... but it's 100% rear wheel drive... :)))

  • Amazing vid. Good Job ; D

  • I would kill to have a job like that!

  • thats what she said

  • Thanks! Great video!

  • 600 mph? i thought it used to go MUCH faster than that?

  • you have to gain speed on the way, dude.

  • it does. its down range. gaining speed. if you listened to the whole thing, you would hear it

  • nice vid!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great vid!

  • nice video

  • Comment removed

  • Someone asked if I had launch video. I do, but it pales in comparison to this NASA provided HD footage. Enjoy!

  • Thank you soo much. I've been wanting to see a launch in HD that actually is watchable forever ^^ thnx!

  • @airboyd Agreed.I attended this launch as well as STS-117,and my footage is abysmal compared to this video! Thank you for sharing.Cheers!
