Im kinda used to GBA emulator's super fast speed , and this is really slow .. no offences though is there any method to speed it up ?

I just downloaded pokemon white, and I am using desmume. Everything was fine. It was not lagging at all, and I had no problems until I got to the first gym leader. After they finish speaking, one of the gym leaders would come up to battle me, and then my game would freeze. Does anyone know why this happens?
