  • Im actually playing this at my concert tonight. I'm scared shitless because of 2 things. 1, I'm not sure were ready, and 2, my teacher decided to send my French horn into the shop to get a dent fixed. Today. Right before the concert. Who does that?!?!? So I have to use one of the extra ones, which would be fine, except that no one uses it so nothing is greased or oiled. Uggg. Oh well.

  • Im in eighth grade to.

  • The clarinet part is freaking hard. I'm an eighth grader so don't judge me. I think it's the slurs during the eighth notes that mess up my section.

  • @ohioawsomeness mee to i play 2nd clarinet, it isnt as hard as first, but still pretty hard...

  • I play this song on the baritone. The baritones have the same part as the French horn and parts that are the same as tuba. The parts that are like French horn is the melody around measure 29.

  • This sounds great I'm playing this now in my band ( I play flute in 8th grade) And everyone loves it so I hope it's gonna turn out sounding great :D

  • 80 people??? Damn. We have maybe 30-40 and Im in high school. We only have 4 clarinets which makes lots of the song really hard. Plus we go a lot faster than this...

  • I love this song, and I love the way you guys played. It sounded excellent! I loved the flute and clarinet parts. I only heard one clarinet squeak!

  • Great stuff. I played this back in Jr. High on the trumpet and flute. We played it a tad faster so this sounds much clearer and dramatic.

    I know there isn't a difference,

But I mean it like the moving pictures in Chinese Restraunts.

  • I heard the Douglas County Honor Band High schoolers play this. Amazing.

  • We played this in 7th grade. We're now juniors and sophomores in high school, and this is a legend. It's the one song out of dozens everyone remembers playing.

  • I'm in eight grade, and I love playing the clarinet 2 part, total epicness.

  • EPIC FLUTE SOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!

  • wow. we played this song at such a faster tempo. I play the trumpet part and its soooooo boring to play.

  • @leaman132 same here >.< especially since im the only one who can hit anything above an E flat.

  • @CaffeineChild on clarinet or alto sax?

  • @papermariorulez11 Neither. I play trumpet, actually. XD

  • i <3 this song it so COOL. i play the flute and im in 8th grade but i got moved into the 9th grade band cuz my band director thought that i was to good for the other band... THIS IS A FREAKING AWESOME SONG!!!

note the trumpet dusnt have a mouth peace... XD

  • i <3 this song it so COOL. i play the flute and im in 8th grade but i got moved into the 9th grade band cuz my band director thought that i was to good for the other band... THIS IS A FREAKING AWESOME SONG!!!

  • I played this song when I was in middle school! this is almost as good as us...haha

  • i liked this song when i played the alto solo to start but when i played baritone sax or bass clarinet it drove me insane!!!

  • Playing this for clinic:) go percussion :D

  • our 8th grade band is playing this! it. is fun.

  • my band of about 15 to 20 people is playing this

  • im a freshman and we r playin this song. i like it but its alittle repetitive for me,

  • its realllllllly raeallyyyyyyy realllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slow as hell

  • it's funny watching the percussionist beat the crap out of the bass drum!

  • My high school concert band did this for competition my senior year! We loved it!! We got the top rating (a 1) at competition too!! Our band of about 25 made it sound much like you guys did here, which is a pretty good trick considering it sounds as though your band had many more members. How many musicians performed in this piece? Its amazing!!!

  • @RdclChk im playing this and i'm in 8th grade. our band is like a high school band is sounds so good

  • @RdclChk Wow, I wish my band was that good. We had about 80 people, thanks.

  • @OkapisRu1e

we had like 40 pplnnd in 7th period we had like 15 or 10

  • @RdclChk i'm in 8th grade and i'm playing this piece.

  • @RdclChk I played this in seventh grade. :)

  • you know there is also a bassoon playing in this song :P

  • thumbs up for the pick a note part

  • this song got use superiorin the rateing at festival band, but we played it WAY FASTER!!!

  • Our middle school band sounds better than this.

  • that was the very definition of band, badass, and what you can sound like, damn you all are awsome

  • like 30 mins ago i listen to that at a concert

  • The song is being played way too slow! Does not sound as epic. The beginning was perfect but when the song kicks in the tempo is supposed to pick up. The flute parts are perfect though they sounded excellent!

  • i love this song! im clarinet!!!

  • :D this is such an epic song!!! omj, flute ftw!!!

thanks for putting this up!!! :) it's such high quality!!!!!

  • the clarinet part is so slow and weak here.

  • Our band is playing this in the Spring Concert and I'm in 7th Grade, first chair, and this is crazy hard for Alto Sax! It sounds awesome and I can't wait to play it in performance!

  • my school played this recently but our conductor took it in a very fast tempo so we went alot faster, but still a great job!!!

  • i remember playing this in honor band bout' a month ago 1st Clarinets Rule[so does LCSD2, Wyoming]

  • this is the second time someone has used our performance to make a video. first the incredibles now this

  • I believe the Incredibles video was mine, and where have you been, I made this video about a month after the performance, which, as you know, was more than a year ago.

P.S. What instrument do you play?

  • oh i didnt notice the names were the same shame on me. im officially retarded for that lol. and i always listen to the incredibles one after we did the performance on your page. weird thing is i would see the incredibles all the time but never saw the maelstrom one. but im happy that both the vids have good audio and i can listen to them. i played the baritone in it.

  • Cool! We must have sat close to each other.

  • Robert W. Smith's music is so AWESOME

this one is something that could fit well in a battle

  • im playing this in band and i think it sounds great. Were so excited for our perfromance.

I play the flute. If you play the flute give a thumbs up!!!!!!!!!

  • I play the flute and this sound is great

  • love this song tubas dominate

  • dont forget the baritones.

    i played in this!

  • nice job love this song!

(give the percussionists some credit in the slide show too-this is coming from a tubaist) =-)

  • the percussion is just backup in this song.

  • @OkapisRu1e yeah, but without the percussion, this song wouldn't even be a third the song it is right now. if you listen carefully, percussion is EVERYWHERE.

  • @chocobolvr832 Haha, my first comment in 8 months!

    I know, I am a little biased...

  • @OkapisRu1e (grins) lol, glad to be of service!! :) And no prob, you're not biased. I bet you just love this song. Omj, what instrument did you play? We played this for two of our performances; I was flute!! :D

  • I played this song my freshmen year at Heritage X3

I still have the music too

  • The fact is that this musing is good.

I played this 1 one year ago on : 1001 musicos ccb 2008 - Portugal, and the most important thing i remember is that we all could feel ourselves and turn our spirit to the music.

The other thing is that this is a BIT SLOW! =)

  • Lol...i'm first chair clarinet and I love this song...Robert W. Smith is awesome!

  • I love the flute part, but if your going to do a slideshow you need to give the percussion credit (I play percussion in a high school band)

  • The percussion play for the vast majority of the song so you can't really single them out. Percussion just kind of supports the band, they don't really have any parts that are more important than the winds.

  • this song is so bad ass :D im first chair trumpet and whenever you get to play the random note is sick

  • i played the low part on the basson =D

  • I agree with bandgeek, lol i mean really what was up with the slide show?

  • i remeber playing this...this was my favorite song...you remeber the part wen you get to play a random note??

  • Pretty cool song. Lame little slideshow thing though ;P

  • yeah Nate (the guy who made the video) tends to do things like that, with the stupid colored instruments and the like.

  • woohoo alto sax solo at the beginning!! i played that

  • no its not supposed to be that slow

  • This is undertempo.

  • It's supposed to be that slow

  • it could be a touch slower maybe... 120 or 140 bpm that's just my take on things, but other than that it was awesome, kudos to the A.Sax Solo, very well done, but it sounds there was a little bit of Vibrato, maybe, I'm not sure... but other than that it was very well done.

  • so you mean too much or too little? I think he used 0 vibrato and needs more.

  • it really needs a lot more, besides there really is never such a thing as too much vibrato. But in this case, there should be much much more of it.

  • oh god..i have to play this for band class..=(
