This guitar used properly should be in the hands of an advanced player to fully optimize its capabilities. If you don't understand how to use and play with alternate tunings or play material that's versatile tonally then get something else. Those who have anything negative to say about this guitar can't afford it or are limited musically. This is a great guitar with a world of possibilities.
I hate any simulated sounds or coil taps because usually they sound so generic of what they're trying to simulate, which often makes it sound like shit.
i think the strat is better because first of all its an american strat thats also cheaper than a american strat and also it has diffrent tuning options and guitar settings. so even if the add ons sound bad you still have an american strat. idk how much the gibson costs but im sure its more expensive than the strat and its also not as versitile.(plus i like fender more than gibson so of course im going to pick the strat lol)
I have a Line 6 variax that does similar things. Nice to play - and try different sounds, but unless demo'ing to an interested party, no more versatile than a decent tone control. The 'modelled' sounds are good but not like the real thing.
The HB model is very good. I bought a VG a few months ago and the models are very useful when playing live. But don't try to compare it to the Gibson Robot. they are different. I have both, and they compliment each other. The Strat models different pickups and has a limited alternate tunings. The Robot doesn't model different other guitars. It is a pure Les Paul, but it has 6 programmable tunings. And electronics aside, they are both great guitars in their own right. I say... Get both!
@mercutio123franikin Yeah but I would imagine that the simulated strat sound would be more towards old school strats. Hendrix/Clapton says. The general strat sound has changed slightly over the years
@mercutio123franikin it helps if you are playing a start but your pick ups are getting interference from other devices plug into the power circuit of the the home, bar or stage venue you are playing..When you use the simulated strat you will not get the hum of the single coil pick ups just good old stratish tone.
@mercutio123franikin ok well it's one year old comment but I try anyway: you can use the stat sound with the other settings, like open tunings etc. WOOF =)
Greg Koch explained that the simulated strat sound is noiseless, unlike the actual Strat pickups, which will be noisy at high gain levels or with fluorescent lights, especially when you're using a single pickup.
@mercutio123franikin I'm probably one of many to reply. But, it doesn't hurt to say that the simulated strat sound eliminates the 60 cycle hum that a normal strat would have.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Both of these guitars (and I do like both Fender and Gibson, both for quality and versatility, SuperBluesman66), the VG Strat and the Robot Les Paul, are gimmics, and won't be around long. All you really need is a six string electric guitar of your choice, and an amplifier (preferrably a tube amp) of your choice, and the knowledge to be able to play it. Everything additional (like stomp boxes and synthesizers) is unneccesary.
Fun guitar. I got mine for $900 out the door from Guitar Center. If you want one, better hurry. They were discontinued and are hard to find. Fun to practice with. You get alot of different sound with which to experiment without having to change you guitar or amp settings. Saves time. In the end it is a solid american strat and has that disinctive sound and feel. A very good guitar for 900 clams.
the new crappy age of "simulation" has arrived on guitars too... sad. soon we'll have guitars that can play for you too...
an ad in 2020 = learning guitar too hard for you?! want to play like your favourite guitar heroes but you still suck?! get the new fender X20394 - it plays for you!!!
This is a revolutionary guitar that actually saves you money you shitbird! It gives you the sound of a strat, a tele, and a les paul. He said its $1750 at Guitar Center. This is american made, so if you were to buy all the guitars that this guitar can simulate american made, it would cost you at least $700 for the stratocaster and $650 for the telecaster. Any gibson les paul with the humbuckers that I know of is around $1200. That already $2550 and that's not even counting the acoustics!
no you are completely wrong. it does NOT give you the sound of a les paul, and tele. its a synthesized humbucker and telecaster. its called a simulation. grab a dictionary. a real les paul and real telecaster has its own unique sound, produced by the woods, electronics and setup.
i would much rather have a standard les paul or standard stratocaster than these so called "revolutionary" guitars that are filled with all this electronic trash.
both guitars are just awesome theyre both diffrent worlds so its good to have both ( i got gibson sg and fender strat both for 500$) but what really matters is the amp the amp is more important then the guitar itself since thats what make all the sound that and the mics and pickups on the guitar
sorry mate i thought that too when i started to play but i reallised a shit guitar with a good amp sounds like shit whereas a good guitar with a shit amp still sounds better. The structure of the guitar is what makes a certain quality of sound, and the amp is there to, like the name says, amplify that sound. hope that helped
well that is true also but it depends if it was made in usa i got a fender strat which are alot better in quality then the squire which i heard was bootleged i mean i dont think it is also the gibson has to be made in usa with parts from here if its imported is crap then but what you say is true but the amp makes a big diffrence to a average guitar
I dont understand all this techno stuff. Im an acoustic guitar person looking for an electric. How the hell does a switch change the tuning of the guitar? how does that work?
theres a hidden pickup under the bridge... it doesn't use any of the real pickups when you switch the tunings.
basically theres a mini pickup under each string's saddle which turns the guitar signal into a MIDI signal which then goes into a built in synthesizer and that's the sound you hear. it has nothing to do with picking up the actual sound of the strings
now guitar center has the vg between 1000 to 1200 and sam ash has the robot for 1000 to 1200 i am thinking which one but im not sure please tell which one people on youtube
the tuning synthesizer would a little confusing to the ear. Your tuning never changes but what comes out the amp is different than what comes out the guitar.

Yes, I agree with the guy in the video. Get the VG Strat at Guitar Center now!!! Guitar Center is selling the VG Strats at clearance price of $999!! If you go during this Memorial Day Weekend, you can pickup the VG for an additional 20% off!! That would be $799!!!! I just got my VG Strat in Blizzard Pearl color for $799 with HSC and all the case candies at my local GC. Get this guitar as very limited quantaties were made due to being discontinued so quickly. Ebay still selling at $1700+
The alternate tunning sounds like your strat. It does not sound fake or digital. I suggest you play one if you can and hear for yourself. This is a great guitar, but it was too overpriced IMHO when it came out, thus the down fall for this guitar. The price I paid for, $799, was very cheap with the hardshell case and all the case candies.
What about the Gibson Robot?

Yes, I agree with the guy in the video. Get the VG Strat at Guitar Center now!!! Guitar Center is selling the VG Strats at clearance price of $999!! If you go during this Memorial Day Weekend, you can pickup the VG for an additional 20% off!! That would be $799!!!! I just got my VG Strat in Blizzard Pearl color for $799 with HSC and all the case candies at my local GC. Get this guitar as very limited quantaties were made due to being discontinued so quickly. Ebay still selling at $1700+

does the VG strat physically tune the guitar or does the roland synth emulate those tunings?

It simulates those tunings. You have to tune the guitar to standard tuning yourself.

So if you can hear your guitar its completely different than your amplified signal? I don't think I'd like that. I'll go play it though.
ddavis510 2 years ago
The alternate tunning sounds like your strat. It does not sound fake or digital. I suggest you play one if you can and hear for yourself. This is a great guitar, but it was too overpriced IMHO when it came out, thus the down fall for this guitar. The price I paid for, $799, was very cheap with the hardshell case and all the case candies.

This has hum bucking pickups so that's pretty much Gibson's style of guitar.

I still tune my guitar with a chromatic tuner. I would rather tune my own guitar but if they made a guitar that strings itself I'm all for it man.

HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF MIDS?! This is the most paper thing tone I've ever heard. Not to mention the guitar isn't tuned.
