do not take flat black plastic out of the silver... just remove the vents and you can unclip the silver pieces with a straight of 45 degree pick.

i gotta question, my 360 doesnt play games no more, when i close the disk tray it says open tray, i have an old 360 too and i was wondering if i could put my old disk drive into the newer 360 slim ? if i cant can u tell me what the newer disk drive is called so i can search for a new drive, cheers

@DubFookinStep If you're wondering if you can take your DVD drive from your old xbox and put it into your new one, no, slim or not. Every 360 has a "DVD key" that only allows the dvd drive to read if connected to the corresponding motherboard.

Yes there are ways to get around this, but it's equivalent to J-tagging your 360.

As far as I know, the most common drives in slims are LiteOn brand.

when you flip it over to pop the other clip holders off is there 1 or 2 clips to pop off? I only see 1,but I can't see any further down in the system to see if there is another

@elizabethsmith81 It's impossible to get to that clip from the inside. Use a needle to poke around the sticker to the right of the power port, there is a small pin-hole that you can push something very skinny and rigid through the shell to release that 4th clip.  Once the console is open, look where the hidden clip is from the inside and you will see the pin-hole. It can't be seen from the outside, unless you know where it is. They make you break it to get it open the first time like that.

Great help, but you don't need to separate the black plastic plate from the beveled chrome piece. You can just undo the clips with the plate on, because there are holes to get your tool into position already.

Sounds like you may need a new Ring of light board, if so count your blessings. I would search on ebay for one and replace that. If that doesn't work, then consider throwing it out of a 50 story building. ha ha. That is just terrible luck, sorry to hear about that.

I put a video game of mine in this console and my xbox ate it. The tray wouldn't close so I assumed that the disc was behind the tray, blocking it. I wanted to see if, by disassembling it, I could retrieve the game and, amongst the confusion and constant repositioning of my xbox, I noticed the tray had closed. I reconnected my xbox, opened the tray, and voila, the game seemed to had found its way back to the disc tray. Thank you so much!! Favorited :D

I liked your video!! I think this was easier than the Elite. I have an issue, I bought this slim and a kinect sensor for 40 bucks. The slim doesnt work, it has the RROD. The kinect does, plus it has a 250gb hd so i made out bigtime. The sensor strip on the back of the face plate broke. How do I fix it?

did you know that the chrome peice and black peice were saposed to come apart together, thats what you had trouble the first time. those access holes on the black panals are there so you can gain access to the chrome panal clips. once you unclip the chrome clips. the chrome peice comes off with the black panal, nothinng broken or damaged

hey lets say i droped a very small drop of soda by accidemt and it fell right on top of where the fan is . i turned oon my xbox it worked great a few minute sinto halo 3 it forze i shut it off played and it froze at the halo main menu. then i turned it on and it didnt even go to the dashboard it turned of and get the red circle thing. i waited like 2 or 3 hours it turned on fine but i decided to turn it off and wait even longer just incase when i turned it on again it was working but then froz
