my older sister had/has this lp, i played it to impress this girl i was skippin' school with who turned out to be the only girlfriend i had in high school for three years, black guy and italian girl enjoying al jarreau, truly a master of his craft
This song really takes me back. I annoyed my family with this until they all liked it. Back in the day I would call the radio station at every shift and request one of Al's songs, what a pity I can't do that anymore. My smoothe Jazz station is gone from the radio.
I am now 40 , The first time I've heard this song was 2005 and it was a CD given by my brother inlaw. I loved this song and I kept on singing it while driving. This song is so relaxing...
At 23 this song reminds me of Sunday afternoons as a kid. My dad would throw on the vinyl and we would clean and do impromptu performances with Mr. Jarreau in the background. Music like this is the reason I can barely stand to listen to the radio
Where are those musics? they would be part of the new generations education. Teach them tonight, daily, and ever and ever. - Thanks schreinervideo for posting Teach me tonight and and the wonderful AL jarreau
I have this album on vinyl - got it when it was smoking hot - used to play it everyday, and it got heavy, heavy play on the radio - KBLX when it was in Berkeley, CA by Aquatic Park.
A voice as smooth as a hot knife through (soft) butter! Thank you for posting this song... There isn't one bad track on this whole album...! Or on any of his albums for that matter! Thanks again for posting! GREAT quality sound too! :-)
Check out the version on "How Long Has This Been Going On?" album by Sarah Vaughn, Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Ray Brown and Louie Bellson - that one swings, as it should!
Wonderful! Part of the magical 80's. The world was younger then, the Trade Centers still stood, and Americans still thought anything was possible. Thanks so much for this.
I covered this song and hit a G5 on the high part!

no one sings this song with as much sincerity and urgency the way sings it. This is one of those rare perfect songs.

@simplydiv22 I think that's severely underestimating the misery of the 80s. Starting with jersey material and jelly shoes.
