  • Great view of the ground crew turning over the rotary engine.

  • i don't care about what anyone says this guy was fucking sexy as hell

  • Co za ASY!!!

  • We are still a primitive species in that we practice tribal warfare. We will take a long time to get to a category one civilization. At present we are not even on the scale. We are a category zero civilization.

  • @norb1937 sadly the technology has far outgrown our animalistic tendancy. We'll perish before doing the right thing.

  • the death of the red barron is instresting I do believe they had to move his remains 3 times since he was burried,,during one of those times his coffin was opened they were looking for some kind of plack that was placed in there during his oringal burial,,,but they didnt find it but they said his body was well preserved except for the skull,,which was because of the crash,,the first time his remains were moved was because of the berlin wall,,

  • HE WAS MURDERED BY THE GERMAN HIGH COMMAND, WATCH THE FILM CLOSELY.

  • @wolfoutlaw1 .......thats impossible! it would have been crazy for Berlin to eliminate theyre best ace! he had 85 kills!!

  • @wolfoutlaw1 He was shot down by an AA gun...

  • The Ace of Aces.

  • @sasarasasarasa Best hand.

  • Actually dead at 25!

  • The greatest flying ace of all-time.

    He was amazing.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • he smiles alot but has very sad eyes.

  • The British chap at about 3:17 is Algernon Bird of 46 Squadron RFC, who seems pretty happy to be alive. It's his plane they are looking at , full of bullet holes; Richtofens 61st victory.

Manfred seems to have been a likable and bright young man (dead at 26), but a victim of the patriotic BS that turns young men into effective killers for stupid nationalist causes.

  • @av8t0r2 What is a country without those willing to defend it?

  • @PredatorKillsAlien Are you really justifying Germanys attack on France as defense? WWI was a clusterf*#k of nationalist ambition and ossified royal leadership; I feel sorry for anyone thrown into that meat grinder. That war, if any, should show you the dangers of propaganda and "patriotism."

  • @av8t0r2 Who even brought up France? I was just saying that patriotism isn't bad. Propaganda usually is, but the willingness to die in the denence of your country is hardly a negative thing.

And yes, considering that all of the countries in WWI were fighting each other in defence of an allied country, it was, in a way, defence.

  • @PredatorKillsAlien Yes, everyone was "defending" themselves, armed to the teeth and itching for a fight. Patriotism was part of the propaganda that got so many to go along. What was gained from all the death? "Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do & die." Some people see patriotism in that, others pointless stupidity. I guess we see the world differently.

  • @av8t0r2 You confuse what I'm saying for an attempt at explaining everything is WWI. That's hardly what it was. I'm perfectly aware that there was a good deal of stupidity in that war, but that was not to blame on the soldiers, so much as those commanding them. What we got out of it wasn't as important as what we could have gotten. We could have gotten a lesson, but that lesson had to come from the aftermath of WWII. This is, again, the fault of officials, not the soldiers or their patriotism.

  • i like germany other than the nazi thing

  • Apperantly im related to him, so fukin awsum

  • I wonder what his voice sounded like. Too bad they didn't get sound with this video. It would have been interesting to hear what everyday things were being said when he was talking with people.

  • @lomsie there was not a way to record sound with motion pictures at this time, there were experiments but it was somewhat unreliable. the only way would have been to record it onto a 78 rpm or in 1917 a nearly obsolete edison roll.

  • I just got done reading "Der Rote Kampfflieger".

  • I notice a young Hermann Goering in the clip as well.

  • Von Richthofen died with his pajamas on underneath his coat...

  • being decorated by those officers in picklehaubs you can see his bandage under his hat...recuperating from head wound that never quite healed from......should have stayed home couple of months more and might have survived to end of war....

  • Wlell it is a nice movie interesting enough if you look carefully at about scene 1:25 4th from the left you will see a interesting person who went on to become famous in WW2 Herman Goering head of the Luftwaffe 4th form the left, served in the Flying Circus pitty he let himself go but great for the allies.

  • i salute you my mentor and my hero!!!you where,and still are,the best!!!!RIP comrade!!!

  • i salute you my mentor and my hero!!!

  • he was the best at what he did for a living. a living military war god.

  • He sure could fly huh. Snoopy got em.

  • I wish i lived during that time, I would of join the German air force for sure!!!

and win my Pour Let Merite =D

  • This is fantastic. Where did you find the film footage? Is it available for download online?

  • too bad he was on the wrong side

  • @MrSusejtsirhc well in wwr1 german were not that bad they were in wwr2..in wwr1,german were same as US or other allies

  • @ppnnlearning u r right , i got my wars mixed up . thanks

  • @MrSusejtsirhc HEY!! every nation has heros or whatever you call them. So he fought for Germany, cuz he was born there and joined at the time, dumbass,he fought and died for his country, we all would no matter what side! well maybe not you, you would set behind the front lines if even near it, and brag about your made up storys

  • @MrSusejtsirhc WWI was nothing but a petty war between colonial powers, kingdoms, and empires. The only truly remarkable thing about it is the way in which it irreparably damaged the world order of the time.

  • The boldness,the insolence,the audacity,the Red Baron !!!

  • I admired his spirit,he doese everything with a smile. The man laughed at death !!!

  • @pietromalaguti..... The march music at 3:15 is called Preussen Gloria (Glory of Prussia), I have an LP album of German Army march music and it's listed as Armee Marsch No. 240. It's used a lot in documentary footage from World War 2, for instance the German Army victory parade in Paris in 1940.

  • Anyone knows the title of the march played at 3:15 ??

  • It has been universally proved that he died at the hand of ground AA fire, but what is more interesting is why. Richthofen's behaviour after his brain injury was noted as consistent with brain-injured patients, and such an injury could account for his perceived lack of judgment on his final flight: flying too low over enemy territory and suffering target fixation.

  • Brown has been dead for over 60 years and hasn't been around to defend his claim...something that he was very modest about to begin with. That leaves the door open for people who were around years later (and were LESS modest) to make claims.

  • That's my uncle. My grandmother told stories of him doing loop-de-loops over the lawn to impress the family.

  • Das video of Manfred von Richthofen is wonderbar! He is one of my all time hero's. It was very nice how the Australian soldiers gave him full military honors at his funeral. I can't beleive that this marvelous and historic footage survived all these years. Thanx for posting this!

  • awesome footage of red baron.

  • Snoopy shot down the Red Baron. They even wrote a song about it.

  • Aw, yeah! Manfred, my man! Bring that Schrecklichkeit, daddy!

  • Richthofen was killed from ground fire. No doudt about it really if you read all the facts. An interesting thing I saw in the video was the Triplanes # 103. I'm pretty sure that was Voss' plane. Richthofen flew #102 in Sept. 1917. I could be wrong here, been several years since I have studied Richthofen and his many planes he flew.

  • @nocrap62 Correct, 103/17 belonged to Voss, who is the pilot shown standing in front of it. 102/17, featured at the beginning of the clip was Richthofen's, although Kurt Wolff was actually shot down and killed in it a few weeks later while MvR was on leave.

  • May i ask, who shot him down, the gunner on the ground or that canadian pilot ?

  • Australian soldier shot him from the ground. Richthofen broke his own rule, never fly over enemy territory.

  • @MadQuebecois

I'm from Canada and let me tell you....THE AUSSIES DID IT (lol). Yeah I heard the story of how the brae Canadian Brown had a lucky shot on him. There was a show investigating it on tv however which prooved that the Red Baron was killed by ground fire NOT from the air. So the Canadian pilot did not kill him after all.

  • VENEZUELA!!!!!!! 1:20 el AS Aleman- VENEZOLANO Carlos Otto Meyer Baldó "Karl Otto Meyer Baldó"

1:20 minutes the Venezuelan- Germany ace Carlos Meyer baldó

  • Der Rote Baron (and his brother) where professional-soldiers in defense of The Muterland ^^

  • Manfred is not the blood thirsty person people seem to want to make him out to be. War is not easy or pretty. You have to put yourself in a certain mindset to deal with things or you'll crack up. When I went to Basic we spent all day running around yelling "Kill, kill, kill". And that was to get us in that mind set. He saw so much death; his enemies, his friends. I think to do what he did he had to turn it into a game to maybe make it seem less real. He had so much stress and responsibility.

  • @tonyclifton2010 oh lol i ment it was good of him to turn of the engine

  • @tonyclifton2010 how nice of him

  • You see the aircraftsmen here cranking over the dreaded spinning radial engine, a motor so impractical, unbalanced and without virtues that it almost tore apart the flimsy aircraft of the day. Yet some people we can only call heroes made them work. For the most part, cheerfully.

  • Chased by Brown (Canadian) across Australian lines. Shot from below in the armpit by Sgt. Popin of an Aussie machine gun section. Given burial with full military honours by Aussie soldiers.

  • @muzlinkage after they striped his aircraft

  • who wouldn't?

    point taken though

  • @muzlinkage but still i mean he was a war hero after all

  • What fascinates me is the shear will of this man. To first off find a clearing and safely land his plane after such a fatal trauma.

Crashing would be foremost on any pilots mind, I think a lot of it was motor skills and pure instinct.

  • Im sure Baron would of been disgusted by Hitler and the Nazis. In WWI at least some on the Germans fought with honor... Unlike WWII where they killed so many innocent people.

  • yeah thank god, the allies didnt kill any innocent right? hiroshima and nagaski. they were all murderers...

  • But it was either that or an invasion which wold of resulted in a much higher death toll.

  • Jap peace feelers were ignored by dept. of war.

They needed to drop those things on a civillian poulation to show the Russians they were on top of the ladder.

Preventing the need to invade was- is a deception

  • That's the gay thing about peoples ideas to ensue for peace (Not all people though). They are prepared to FIGHT for it. Fighting is fucking stupid. This world needs more Terrence Mckenna I think. It's much easier to say sorry than it is to pick up a weapon and use it.

  • @hahnenkampf88 Dresden you asshole

  • Ja! Der Baron! Wer kennt ihn nicht lieben?

  • He was shot after he landed his plane..He had his hands up and the bullet went through his armpit....you cant land a triplane if you are injured.

  • The old, early aircraft were so light they could land 'dead-stick' quite easily. And if a pilot was dead in such a position that he had virtually neutral controls, then landing wouldn't have been too difficult..............

  • my great granddad witnessed MvR being shot on the ground which was quite common amongst Australian soldiers because of the strafing they got.

  • LizaAvon Lie.

  • HE WAS A HERO! These killing machines are nothing compared to him! He didn't want to kill!

  • The red baron shot down more then 70 enemy planes. War hero

  • he had 80 confirmed

  • Those guys was heros , not like our pilots today !!

  • Obvious troll is being obvious.

  • r u nutty?

  • But still, nonetheless.....a great legend...a true ace.

  • Notice he is always smiling in all the clips. He seems to be kind of horseplaying at times. He was only what, 25 when he was killed?

  • correct me if Im wrong but I think the red baron remains were moved 3 times,,he was moved when the berlin wall was built,,and the last time he was moved was in 1976

  • boelcke was the greatest!! he was manfred's master who taught him everything and the red baron idolized him even after manfred was the top ace with all his commands and awards he once quoted ''i am after all only a combat pilot but boelcke HE WAS A HERO''

  • The 'Red Baron' wasn't actually a Baron. Also, most of his 'kills' were against two-seater aircraft, not as manouverable as single -seat 'scouts' still and all, he was of his time and is STILL the best known 'ace' of WWI. And it was Richthofen who developed the tactic of killing the rear gunner first - this making the final kill easier and less hazardous. :-)

  • including strutters and bristol fighters.. he had approx 50 two seater aircraft. however, many of these two seaters were strutter/bristol fighters which were formidable opponents even for single seat fighters. the germans were outnumbered almost 3:1 in 1917. yet there are many cases of british squadrons of 12 simply running away when spotting richthofen and 3 other germans. he intimidated allied pilots that badly.

  • read his autobiography. its very entertainign and insightful as to how badass he really was. There is another case of him oversleeping and finding his squadron had left without him.. he put his flight suit on over his pajamas went up, shot 2 down.. landing having breakfast with the squadron going back up with the squadron and getting another. also, think how many victories he would have had if he started in the air service. or when he transfered from cav, become a fighter pilot not an observer

  • I've read the biographies of serveral World War One aces. The ones who served apprenticeships as observers seemed to benefit from the experience. Besides, it was my impression that, when it came to flying, Richthofen was a slow learner -- less a natural than a very diligent student.

By the way, is it true that he and his brother Lothar disliked each other?

  • i agree with you about pilots benefitting from being observers first. Lothar and manfred did not dislike eachother. they had complete opposite styles in terms of flying and aerial combat. richthofen was calculating and conservative and lothar was very aggressive. lothar was shot down 3 times. it was after one of lothar's crashes that forced lothar to go to a field hospital for several weeks. while lothar was there manfred was killed. lothar blamed himself for manfred's death.

  • He was a "Freiherr", which is a title, that comes close to a baron. that´s why the tommys gave him the name "the red baron".

  • You are talking about a relation of mine.

    Arschloch. !!

  • lmao... please dont talk about things you know nothing about

  • where did you get this footage?

  • que video tan chevere mi baron rojo xq se fue dios es muy injusto te amo soy tu admiradora fiel mi baron llevame con tido ala gloria

  • 'gooder' technology. rare footage - to say the very least!

  • where did you get this footage? it's great

  • the peoples of those times where atleast clean, not what i can say about modern degenerates who are more illiterate than 1950 retards, id like to go back to those times but with more gooder technology, those times are just a golden age, not compared to modern suffering & technological slavory, we need a new people in this world ^_^*

  • salute Red Baron _/ -_-

  • Manfred was a real hero.

  • 91 years ago today, the Red Baron was shot down.

  • @erb209 by an australian, mate

  • At 3', the pilot in flying suit is the british pilot shown afterward standing next to MvR ,examining his crashlanded Pupwith the Germans. He gave a good fight before being downed by MvR and probably was released to still be in healthy condition after his meeting with the German.

  • SS in WWI ??? The Ignorace of History by some is embarrassing

  • he's my great-great-uncle

  • munichlady, thanks for not spewing obsenities. I have a great respect for manny and his brothers ; ) (Manfred, Lothar, and cousin Wolfram) all young men serving their country. I saw a documentary with original black and white film as the above video. It sorta leaves the door open to who killed the Baron. It explains both versions. Either way still a Legend. Marvelous aircraft, too.

  • First. No SS in WW1. Still saluted normaly.

Had some honor and risked their lives just trying to fly those early aircraft. Many failed and many died. P.S. Last documentary, stated due to his injury, it was ground fire. The killing wound came from below up into his torso. Brown was above and behind, saw him slump forward, naturaly thought he'd hit him, and flew off. New German version coming out soon, wonder how they'll present it?

  • Hi nwannal. If you mean the Movie " The Red Baron" with Matthias Schweighofer ?then you might be disappointed. There is no mention of how he died in this Movie.

Its an open-end mystery, but I am very inclined to go with the shot from ground fire. The angle of entering the torso and hitting the heart seems more like that.

Whatever. Manfred was a brave man, a Cavalier and a Hero. May he Rest in his own Peace flying those planes he loved for all Eternity.

  • the red baron movie wasa huge disappointment. Barely any action, and the story didnt go far enough, it always skipped ahead, never letting you get settled into it, just not enough depth and overall a movie that had little or no effort in it on the writer and directors part. A move about someone like this should be on an epic scale, and go with one of the so called ways he was killed" Myself believeing roy brown shot him down". Such as bad movie for such a legend

  • i think the red baron movie was awesome, and in the movie it says in the end "Captian Roy Brown got the credit however it was never proven" or something like that, so keep quite and watch the movie again instead of being such a douchebag.

  • Thank you! :) Great pilot!

  • goering killed about 1/4 of the ppl the red baron did that; it speaks for itself who was better

  • where can you find this videos??

  • People of all nations, can admire Richthofen. He is A true warrior. Killed by ground fire, He was to good, to have been taking out by another pilot.

  • that's debatable.

  • Which part? The bit about him being taken out by a ground-based weapon, or about him being too good to be taken out by another pilot?

  • it's one point. he was either taken out by ground troops or there was a better pilot. i'm goin' with the pilot because... them ground troops was always jealous and wanted to grab the glory whenever they could! in my well considered opinion.

  • I loved it. History is always interesting. Thank you

  • We must always remember that Richthofen was a pioneer in his field; he cannot be compared with the generations that followed and tried to fill his footsteps. He will always remain "einzigartig" and deserves all the respect we can give him.

  • Manfred von Richthofen was certainly a hero. Germans of all generations should not forget what MvR, along with many other young German pilots, did for their country, ultimately sacrificing their own lives for future generations. May they all rest in peace in Valhalla.

  • Indeed, for without such fighters Germany might have lost the wars, and then where would your beloved fatherland be? Oh........wait.......what?

  • Being of German heritage I always liked the idea that The Red Baron ~ MvonR ~ said 'Merry Christmas mein friend' to Snoopy in that `60's Xmas song. ... WELL DONE POST RICHTHOFEN

  • where do you find this video????

  • I wish he would'a wrote a book on his tactics and methods, formation, aerial gunnery, defensive manoevers, turn+burn,boom+zoom.........hell, everything.

  • Manfred Richthofen and Michael Schumacher look similar. And by far the best in their "sport" or profession!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't think they look alike at all!

  • And Herman Goering had the best kill rate of all German pilots of 1914-1918 war - so he was actualy the best + he was good enough to survive the war. So a bit of a silly thiong to say on your part spookespook

  • huh?? What did I say??

  • Göring's kill rate was rubbish. If you knew anything about him you'd know he was a backstabbing liar who only survived because he took himself out of combat. He was a piece of shit in wwi and more of one in wwii. And if it wasnt for a bribe he would have swung. But he was too much of a coward to do that too. He's currently burning in all hell!

  • Manfred von Richthofen the best pilot ever!

    Herman Goering was bad pilot!

  • german soldiers were fntastics , MANFRED in the skys WITTMAN in tanks ... SS on the ground ...

  • ur dumb gantzmetallica

  • amazing tribute to the best pilot of all time

  • Rittmeister Manfred Freiherr Von Richthofen, with over eighty kills, truly one the greatest pilots who ever lived. Thanks for this fitting tribute

  • I love his smile, it's so intoxicating. Makes you automatically smile back.

  • Thanks for posting these videos. They are amazing!!!

  • Manfred! Yay!

  • achilles of the world we know...

  • der größte Jagdflieger aller Zeiten,

    jetzt in Walhalla

  • Manfred!!!!!!!!

  • the red baron.
