I was just looking around for videos about SCAD and people who are going there..... since I just got my acceptance letter yesterday! :) I'm soooo happy cause it was my top choice. Since I plan on going there, I want to major in Illustration and minor in Graphic Design :) Since you've been there I'm guessing for a couple of years since you're class of '12, mind sharing some of your experiences? :D What was your first year like? How's the dorm life been going? You know, stuff like that xD :)
I recently got accepted there to attend in the fall! I was just wondering if you think it's worth the money. I can't decide between Ringling or SCAD. I don't know if it's worth the tuition?
@jakeluver1992 Ive been to Ringling, SCAD is wayy better. I think its a friendly environment then Ringling. Plus, if you do the 2+2 they're more willing to work with that then Ringling. SCAD's WAY better <3 That's my option though...
@ObviouslyBenHughes Nope, you're wrong. I think you should have noticed by now that there are numerous people at our school that are devoid of talent. SCAD accepted over 2000 freshmen and transfer students in 2009. I am one of them. Less than 1200 actually showed up. One more factoid about college applications. 6500+ may have applied but many of those appilcants never followed up with a portfolio review. Anyone can "apply" to SCAD. I plan on leaving at the end of next quarter.
@RootBeerFlavored In case you're wondering why. I feel like I've been swindled by the admin and duped by department. Quite frankly SCAD is just not the place for a 40 year old with 25 years of professional experience in Design and Production. The atmoshere in performing arts has been nothing but hostile towards me. Going to finsh out next qrts' projects and seek my degree elsewhere. Glad to read it has worked for you though.
@andrescoga Moron eh? Here's something to chew on. Just before I left, I accidently saw the contents of my admissions folder when the silly woman conducting my exit interview dropped in on the floor. Well, well, well, what should on the floor but the envelope containing the CD-ROM with my audition and portfolio. It was unopened!!! They never even looked over my work. SCAD probably accepted me b/c of my GI-Bill.
Knowing what I know now, yes believing in SCAD was a very moronic thing to do.

Nothing more glorious than that right?
Oh I sent ya a message some time before on Youtube but I guess you never got it???? Oh well, congrats again on getting into SCAD '12! I will be a fellow student with you, however I will be majoring in Illustration.
I know the feeling I cried and cried when i got that very same letter cuz i was so excited. Moved there, attempted a few classes and found out SCAD is full of fuckin freaks that are totally out of touch with reality... For the most part... not all of them though. I left because it just wasnt for me, But hopefully you'll make something out of it and not be one of those "art for arts sake" retards. Hope you do well and wish you all the luck in the world. (and buy a gun before you move, its crazy!)
whats wrong with being a freak? its way more fun than being boring. isn't that what art is about? people who are differnet because they see things in a differant point of view? don't suffer from insanity, enjoy every minute of it:P
You can be a freak, but whats stupid is when u take the "art" thing way to far... Like going to SCAD and taking out loans for a $200k education for a degree like "painting" There is only about 4 or 5 decent paying career paths from scad... I personally didnt understand most of the people there. Mainly cuz they were a bunch of trust fund babies who wouldnt know reality if it slapped them in their face and they went to scad cuz they were voted "most creative" in their high school yearbook...
first of all, they're not freaks, cause i go there and im far from a freak and students who are serious bout art go to art schools, and scad is one of the best! i transferd from pratt institute, that place REALLY is freakish.. WOOOOH , talk bout freaks.. haha
I went to SCAD and have just graduated with my master's. Congrats on getting in. It is a great school and you should be very excited. I couldn't quite tell how excited you were from your video. :)
By the way, Love the intro song. Chris Thile and the rest of Nickel Creek is awsome. Congrats again and enjoy Savannah.
And thanks for the comment on Thile. He's such an amazing musician. I do wish that Nickel Creek didn't disband, but the things that are coming from them individually now are superb. Especially from Sean and Sara - I talked with them at IBMA two years ago and they were already planning their ventures.
CONGRATULATIONS!! You are so lucky! I want to go there too, but I don't know how I'd be able to afford it. How will you afford it? I might go to the one in Atlanta.
But yeah, I screamed too. I was at school in the theatre parking lot. I accidentally crushed my cousin into a car because I jumped on him to hug him. And I cried all over him.
Congrats on geting in SCAD. I had the volume a bit too loud so wen u were like "aaahhh!" it made me jump lol ... You mentioned about doing dance for 6 years & I just wondered what type of dance you do?
You say "new intro" so was there an old one? If there was, then I obviously haven't watch all your videos but I'm a new subber so hey, that's allowed lol.
Nice! your quite talented then, I thought you were just gonna say one particular type but to do three and a fourth a bit, is pretty cool in my opinion =)
You need to show us some stuff... that's if you want to ;)
My friend Andy Whelan went to my school and he just graduated last year from SCAD and got scooped up right out of college by Disney. Maybe you know him?
AAh.. He works down in Orlando right in the thick of things, but apparently he's going to be flown round the world a lot to all of the other locations, so you may meet him! :)
OMG congrats Ben, I'm so happy for you buddy! Oh wtf, here's big bear hug from an old geezer who wishes you all the best!!!! I'd give you 10 stars if I could. Oh and one more thing, you better graduate or I'll personally come there and kick your ass, lol!
aw congrads ben! I still cant believe the seniors are leaving in a month =( I cant believe Im gonna be upper classmen next year either its not gonna be the same... but congrads!
THANX! I know it's going to be SO tough... WAAAAAAAAHH.....
But you'll know all the fun times of being a Senior (and dealing with the dreaded Senior Project!!! GAHAHAHAAAA!!!) soon enough.
Enjoy being younger while you still can. Honestly. it's such a quick ride that you'll be wishing you had your camera(s) with you as much as possible, so NEVER leave home without one! Trust me, you'll look back at all of it in a few years and laugh til you cry :)
Hey, I'm an incoming SCAD 2012 student also! I totally know how you feel about the move I'm coming from LA, but I visited the school and it's fantastic!
Congratulations! Savannah is a beautiful city. Look up "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", the book, NOT the movie. It will give you a great taste of the city and its culture. Its publication caused tourism to skyrocket. Natives have mixed feelings about it, but I found it a great read.
It's about a murder. A prominent citizen kills a hustler. The killer was an antique dealer, flamboyant but charming. He traveled in the better circles in the town, and his Christmas party was THE invite of the year. His social betters. The book is just full of the most wonderful character studies of inhabitants, a hymn to the beauty of the town. It was on the best seller list for years. So, it lead to MANY more tourists. The old timers were not amused. It's a wonderful book. You'll like it.
Trying to pare down the character count, I left a dangling sentence. It's a funny, touching, charming book. Clint Eastwood directed a bad movie based on it. It will give you a real feeling for the city. Geography, culture, ambiance and the quirks and assets of the natives.
Word Web has the spelling as nosey. Perhaps it's one of those interchangable...um, interchangeable...spellings like grey and gray. Damn, these spelling police.
I studied modern dance for years. I wanted to be in Martha Graham or Paul Taylor company, but, alas, someone pointed out in a line up I have knock knees.

Hey!
Thanks for the comment way back then. I got a new account right after this video so I probably didn't get your message because of that.
How did you like your first year?
ObviouslyBenHughes 2 years ago
I know the feeling I cried and cried when i got that very same letter cuz i was so excited. Moved there, attempted a few classes and found out SCAD is full of fuckin freaks that are totally out of touch with reality... For the most part... not all of them though. I left because it just wasnt for me, But hopefully you'll make something out of it and not be one of those "art for arts sake" retards. Hope you do well and wish you all the luck in the world. (and buy a gun before you move, its crazy!)
lvatlenox 3 years ago
whats wrong with being a freak? its way more fun than being boring. isn't that what art is about? people who are differnet because they see things in a differant point of view? don't suffer from insanity, enjoy every minute of it:P
kagulya 3 years ago
You can be a freak, but whats stupid is when u take the "art" thing way to far... Like going to SCAD and taking out loans for a $200k education for a degree like "painting" There is only about 4 or 5 decent paying career paths from scad... I personally didnt understand most of the people there. Mainly cuz they were a bunch of trust fund babies who wouldnt know reality if it slapped them in their face and they went to scad cuz they were voted "most creative" in their high school yearbook...
lvatlenox 3 years ago
first of all, they're not freaks, cause i go there and im far from a freak and students who are serious bout art go to art schools, and scad is one of the best! i transferd from pratt institute, that place REALLY is freakish.. WOOOOH , talk bout freaks.. haha

Hello,
I went to SCAD and have just graduated with my master's. Congrats on getting in. It is a great school and you should be very excited. I couldn't quite tell how excited you were from your video. :)
By the way, Love the intro song. Chris Thile and the rest of Nickel Creek is awsome. Congrats again and enjoy Savannah.
abaldo20 3 years ago
Thanks! What did you major in?
And thanks for the comment on Thile. He's such an amazing musician. I do wish that Nickel Creek didn't disband, but the things that are coming from them individually now are superb. Especially from Sean and Sara - I talked with them at IBMA two years ago and they were already planning their ventures.
Anyway, thanks again for the comment!
Movlogger 3 years ago
CONGRATULATIONS!! You are so lucky! I want to go there too, but I don't know how I'd be able to afford it. How will you afford it? I might go to the one in Atlanta.

Congratulations! Savannah is a beautiful city. Look up "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", the book, NOT the movie. It will give you a great taste of the city and its culture. Its publication caused tourism to skyrocket. Natives have mixed feelings about it, but I found it a great read.
bachrub 3 years ago
Thanks for the recommendation! Why, though, do the locals not like it so much?
Movlogger 3 years ago
It's about a murder. A prominent citizen kills a hustler. The killer was an antique dealer, flamboyant but charming. He traveled in the better circles in the town, and his Christmas party was THE invite of the year. His social betters. The book is just full of the most wonderful character studies of inhabitants, a hymn to the beauty of the town. It was on the best seller list for years. So, it lead to MANY more tourists. The old timers were not amused. It's a wonderful book. You'll like it.
bachrub 3 years ago
Trying to pare down the character count, I left a dangling sentence. It's a funny, touching, charming book. Clint Eastwood directed a bad movie based on it. It will give you a real feeling for the city. Geography, culture, ambiance and the quirks and assets of the natives.
bachrub 3 years ago
Sounds fantastic! I love reading... Just dont get to do much of it lately...
I'll see if my english teacher has it. She has (no joke) like 30,000 books... TONS of them

Yaaay!!
How the heck did you find that comment???
MGABBYB 3 years ago
I was reading a response to a comment I made here this morning. I do scroll around and read other responses. Maybe that's noisy.
robertpina99 3 years ago
You probably don't know this, but I am also known as the spelling police. 'noisy'?
MGABBYB 3 years ago
No, I didn't mean loud. I meant to spell nosey. It's so hard to type on one elbow.
robertpina99 3 years ago
GAH my original favorite person and one of my new subs! yaaay!
LMAO
Not nosy, RP. It is the internet, after all.
Damn those one-elbow typing fits...
-M
p.s. the little red line came up under Nosey when i typed it - apparently it's nosy???
WTF IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?!?!?
Movlogger 3 years ago
Word Web has the spelling as nosey. Perhaps it's one of those interchangable...um, interchangeable...spellings like grey and gray. Damn, these spelling police.
I studied modern dance for years. I wanted to be in Martha Graham or Paul Taylor company, but, alas, someone pointed out in a line up I have knock knees.
robertpina99 3 years ago
OH NO! That must have sucked... :( I'm sorry!
I'm gonna stick with Nosy for now. I'll have to ask my English teacher tomorrow!
