Jon applied to: "Mr. Fisher, if in any way you felt threatened or disrespected by my actions the other night, please allow me to apologize. That was not my intention. I was simply hoping to play a few songs out in the parking lot for some folks who wanted to listen... I would love to find out how to do this sort of thing better for the next time we pass through. We all need each other. We all need second chances. We all need to learn from the replay. The umps, the cops, and me".
Jon wrote in an article "Replay: My Standoff with Florida Police": I'm still not sure why the officer wanted the music to stop. We were not the last to leave the parking lot, we were not blocking traffic, and there had been no noise complaints. The only reason he gave was that he wanted to go home. I'm sure that..., Officer Fisher and I would find a few things in common. Yes, after watching the tape, I have reversed my decision: I would have gone for communication instead of one more song...
Hey people, first of all, we don't see the whole incident in the video - we don't know if the cop already told them, ok, just one more. Second, It wasn't a public venue, it was still on the private venue property. Third, the Jesus example would have been to submit to the lawful authorities, in this case the cops. The cops weren't being rude, they were just being direct. They had a job to do. Jon was able to play a short set, and then he needed to leave. It's not that difficult really.
@usmccp "IT'S OVER, IT'S OVER, LET'S GO" speaks the voice of hierarchical authority, and your rationalization of it demonstrates your place in the hierarchy (not a surprise as you're named usmccp.) Everything is private property. There were no laws against man being committed, only laws against arbitrary property rights.
@unku you are correct, there is a hierarchy. Check out how in Romans 13:1-7 God gives the authority to governments - this police officer represents said government, and was not telling the people to do something against Scripture, so I think it's safe to say he was well within his bounds to tell people it was time to go. I think Jon could have left a little sooner, but he was polite and respectful.
here's the point, They just had the concert, and it was over now, so many people have to leave and get going. The security needs to look out for the location, property and get things cleared off for the next event. It was probably what, 1230AM in the morning?? Time to go home.. The policeman asked to please move on, and there was some reluctance... He has a BIG job to take care of, probably a 100 or people dealing with security
what a disgraceful act from a policeman. no one was going to get hurt. no one was bothering anyone. he didn't listen for one second and acted like a complete fool the entire time. disgrace to the profession. an absolute tool. Jon you're a legend man!
when they played a concert a few years ago i got my shirt and cd autographed by them, it was awesome. they didnt have to stay a hour after the show but they did because they wanted to.
I totally agree with that police man.. You can't just go somewhere and play beautiful and inspirational music to their devoted and loving fans. That's just nuts! And look at that huge fight those people were in! So uncivilized!
Well, I can kinda understand the cop's perspective. Most after show gatherings after concerts aren't calm. They normally end up in riots when the artists tries to leave, the cop was just doing his job and preventing that from happened.
that being said, Switchfoot fans are a WHOLE different race of fans. That's what I love about the after show concerts. Everyone becomes friends, we're calm, and nobody is hysterical.
The cops probably haven't seen fans of this caliber before. If only he knew...
@emmatter totally true. my friend went to see a switchfoot concert a few months ago and said he and jon had a normal, one-on-one conversation in the street afterwards. too cool.
@Triggerblame I know, they're pretty cool like that. I talked to him and Drew about the awesomeness of glowsticks for while. I was actually surprised at how long we talked about them...lol I wish all of them would hang out with the fans.
@justKevin213 Authority is there for us to follow, yes, but not blindly. That idiot cop should at LEAST have given a good reason to kick out one of the greatest singers of the modern age.
honestly think we should just enjoy the first half of the video, forget about the cops, they were just trying to do their job, and maybe a few mistakes were made, but LOVE that song
Scrawny little officer should get backup if he's gonna mess with a crowd like that. If Jon wasn't so nice he'd introduce that guys ass to the concrete.
The reason the cop kicked everyone out was because the venue is liable for people still in their parking lot after the show. It's his job to clear everyone out before he can go home. Sure, he could've been a little less rude and explained things better, but I can understand being tired and wanting to go home after a long night. Give the officer a break, he's just doing his job.
Thats horrible. Jon's aftershows are something to be experienced by all of his fans- really special. I will always remember my first aftershow that I was lucky enough to attend and am sorry for those whose got interrupted.
this is ridiculous! why jon couldn't play more? there was nothing going on, everyone were calm and just watching it, absolutely no reason for doing that... and jon is so cool, handled it very well. too bad he had no choice but to end the aftershow concert... =\
Hey here is an idea. How about instead of judging Jon (who I count as one of my friends) for "not respecting the police" Lets take the time to read what happened AND the response from Jon. As many of you might not know Jon writes for the Huffington Post and he did an article on this incident. The links to both this article and the original CNN article are below. @hellohurricane2 So true. He had the most calm and agressive-less attitude you could ever have. That stupid officer on a power trip was just to happy to finally actually have something to do and being a pain in the ass of someone.

The problem is, he was doing nothing illegal. If he were, this would be very disrespectful. He's there to enforce the law, not make it.
